Cannot restore iPod (1418) - Windows XP

Hi, I got my Fifth Generation iPod on Christmas 2005. I never had any trouble until now. I have more than 2000 songs and I noticed my iPod started being slow (overall) when using the iPod when a song is playing. Also, I got a few songs which cuts off at approximately 3 fourth of the song, which is really annoying (doing that for about 30 songs).
After noticing all of troubles with my iPod, I thought it was time to do a restore and start fresh. When I press the Restore button in iTunes on the iPod source, it tries to update and after 2 or 3 minutes, I get the error message:
"The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1418)"
After doing some research, I tried using these guides:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304508
and
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996
and without any luck, I still can't get it fixed.
Things I have done:
1. tried to format by right clicking the device in "My Computer" and selecting Format, then, it gives me an error saying I can't format that device (Quick Format unchecked, FAT32 selected);
2. uninstalled the USB devices; changed the USB ports; unplugged every USb devices I have running;
3. installing the iPod Software from the cd (gives me an error saying "Service Invalid";
4. uninstalled iTunes COMPLETELY and re-installing (now it gives me a box saying "Windows system components that iTunes requires are missing or corrupted. iTunes might be unable to launch or communicate with iPod or iPhone. For help repairing your operating system, click More Information." Now when clicking that link, it goes to this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305999 and again, I tried to re-register the dlls and it still won't work.)
I really need help fixing my iPod. Thank you very much for your following help.

Alright, I think I'm getting closer to the problem. When I open iTunes, I said it gives me a new message box saying that some programs may not work. Then, on the help page that it links, it says that I should register 10 dlls:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304996
So, I removed all of the "/s" from the commands and it gives me feedback instead of running them, silently (/s). I noticed I'm missing 3 dlls: gpkcsp.dll, sccbase.dll, slbcsp.dll. So, I just need to fix or find those 3 and I hope it works.
Now I need to restart my computer (just finished reformatting my iPod by using My Computer Format tool).
Edit: nevermind, at the last 98%, it popped the error message again. Now I can't reformat. Remember: Long Formating is 99% file system checking and 1% formating (time based). Quick Formating is only format (without the file system checking).
I'll update this thread as much as I can! Stay tuned.
*So, I'm 90% sure it's a Windows problem and not an iTunes/iPod problem.*

-When the apple logo appears you put it on the computer to charge it
    I hope it helps

  • I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked.

I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked. I had been having trouble syncing music, When I tried to sync, iTunes said it didn't recognize my iPod, even though I was on the iPod page in iTunes which showed the model number and the serial number of my iPod

I am having essentialy the same problem, but my iPod came from a PC and is now on a PC. The person who gave me the iPod didn't give me the wall adapter piece, so I bought a "Griffin" brand that was said to be compatible with this model. When I first plugged it into the wall, the Apple appeared with a bar underneath as though it was loading the new software. When the bar got to the end, the "plug into the wall" icon reappeared, but when I plug it in to the wall now, that icon is the only thing that shows, even after resetting and trying to run diagnostics.
When I doc the iPod on a charger I have or plug the USB into my computer and "reset" it, a battery with a charge icon appears, but there is no "motion" in the icon so it doesn't appear to be charging. The screen eventually goes back to the apple then to the "plug it into the wall" icon. HELP!!! Is is possible the wall adapters isn't the right one? Should I be charging through a firewire cable instead (which I also don't have...)?

  • Only apple logo appears, cannot restore ipod, tried to restore and received error code 1602, what can I do?

I am trying to figure out why I cannot restore my Ipod touch 64, when I get through the whole restore it states "error code 1602".  I have used the original cable that came with the Ipod and have tried it on two different computers.  When I turn it on only the apple logo appears and nothing else happens.  Please help

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
If the phone is stuck on the Apple logo, you can try a hard reset (deletes no info). Press and hold the power button and Home button until the phone turns off. Then try to power it up again.
Simply restarting your computer will not cause your iPhone to stop working unless there is a major issue with software conflicts on your computer... i.e.... corrupt iTunes installation.
Try disabling any security software you might have and avoid using and USB hubs or extenders etc.
If the hard reset doesn't work in getting your phone to boot up, then you'll have to do a restore of the device.

  • Cannot restore iPod Touch 5g: iTunes "Waiting for iPod"

SIDE NOTE: For a TL:DR, I've made all the important stuff bold.
I've been having this issue with my iPod Touch 5G where I cannot restore it no matter what I do.
This article, This article, This article, nor This article helped me.
When my iPod is not connected to the computer, it literally does nothing at all, no matter what you do. When you plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes it as an iPod, but it says "Serial Number: n/a", and will not display any info. I can tell my iPod detects button presses because I can connect it and disconnect it just by holding in the Power and Home buttons. After plugging it in, the bar at the top of iTunes says "Extracting software", then after that bar fills up it goes to "Waiting for iPod". It then says "Preparing iPod for restore", and then fluctuates between the last two, once or twice. After that, iTunes gets stuck on "Waiting for iPod", and stays there. The iPod, however, displays an apple logo with an empty progress bar beneath it. I took it to an Apple Store not too long ago, and they couldn't fix it. The employee there couldn't do anything more than what I've done. He said that my only option is to get a new one. I still haven't lost hope, though, because there has been two other cases where I've fixed devices where something like this has happened. It's just not working now.
    Anyways, please help!
    Sincerely, Alex.

    - Try another cable
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try on another computer
    - Not clear you tried DFU mode and then restore

  • Updated to 9.03 now cannot restore iPod that crashed

I updated iTunes today to 9.0.3 on my PowerBook G4. Then I tried to update my iPod touch to 3.1.whatever. iTunes immediately crashed and then my iPod crashed and I have to restore to factory settings. Now, I cannot restore my iPod on this PowerBook but it's the one that has the iPod backup and the latest iPod system (my other Macs can only update the iPod to 2.2). Every time I get to the stage where it extracts the program (3.1.whatever), iTunes crashes. I am stuck in a loop of crashing. I cannot restore the iPod because iTunes crashes every time I try it. I don't know if it's an iTunes or iPod issue, but I'm thinking it's more of an iTunes problem than an iPod problem. I really need help!

I am having a similar problem. iTunes won't let me update or restore my iPod. It just says AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpectedly and iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services.

  • Cannot restore ipod shuffle original shows error 1418

I know this is an old shuffle. I was trying to let my grandkids use it. It will not restore or transfer music to it. I have since used a different computer from when I originallused it. Do I need separate software for this shuffle or what.

I had this error as well. I re-installed the updater to get it working again.

  • Cannot restore ipod and other issues.

If someone can solve my ipod issues, you will totally make my birthday. Here's the deal. Sometimes when I connect my Ipod to my computer, it sees it as a just a removable disk drive. When that happens, Itunes tells me that my ipod is corrupt. When it tells me I should restore, it then tells me error 1418. I followed the steps on the post on here about that error code and it doesn't work. However, sometimes my computer recognizes my ipod, a message will pop up from memory card manager saying failed ot locate supported file types or there are no photos found on this device. Then my ipod will sync in itunes and start copying files. It says it's copying (which in actuality it's not copying anything or i might get a song or two to copy to my ipod) but then it stops and a message pops up saying, The ipod "Mike's ipod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found. I just don't know what to even try anymore. I've looked at so many posts and still nothing works. Please if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it so much!!!

    Hi,
Ok, there seems to be a problem... I've now been running Disk First Aid Erase on my iPod for an hour and a half. So far the blue bar showing progress seems to be stuck on about 5mm in...
Btw... there's been 2 people w probs posting here (I couldn't find the link to make a new post and joined this as it had similar probs)- the original guy has sorted his problem. Mine revolves around an iPod that showed up corrupted when I plugged into my Mac after not using the iPod for a couple of months.
iTunes can't restore it - error sign... As it also now shows up unrecognizable when I plug it into my Mac but with a "you can intialize" possibility I'm trying that as suggested. That takes me to Disk First Aid where pod erase seems to be stuck....
Hope somebody out there can help... thanks!

  • How to restore ipod in windows?

Cannot use an ipod that was formated for Mac and now must be used with Windows.

Well I have to start saying that I had this very same problem here with my iPod Classic 160GB and a Mac Book Pro with Yosemite 10.10.1 using iTunes 12.0.1.26, the solution is here as I will be explaining further on accordingly to my very own experience... because it was formatted on PC instead of Mac... (sometimes you'll have to restart your devices... call it Mac and iPod or whatever).
First you have to have charged your iPod (That is always necessary don't forget to do this prior to every movement to keep safe the hardware)
Secondly you have to make sure that you can access the main menu, then switch on and then off the hold slide button (make sure of doing this because I've noticed that if you skip this step the rest will not work at all correctly specially when you are in "Disk Mode"), then push menu and the action button together (this will be shutting down your device, it 's OK don't worry), as soon as the screen goes black it will be "restarting itself" and you have to push the play/pause button and the action button together and you will get a black and white screen if everything was performed correctly, that shows the so called "Disk Mode"
Thirdly, you have to connect your device and you will notice that on screen says "OK to disconnect" go on... connect you device and you will be having to see that you mac will recognize it then it will show on screen "Do not Disconnect", but to keep error from happening again now that you can see the storage device simply put a file (at least 100mb in my opinion, to make use of some space on it), the rest of it is pretty simple follow the directions to restore the device (if you need it so).
Remember to eject from the disk utility your iPod or from the Finder menu.
Restart your iPod performing the reset (menu/ action button together) let the device load again and then connect it to your Mac.
Pretty simple and do not worry your iPod is still alive (sort of) haha.

  • ITunes cannot restore iPod in recovery mode.

I connect the iPod, and iTunes recognizes instantly, and tells me that it has detected the iPod in recovery mode etc. Then I click Restore and it normally extracts restoring software, and then a window appears that it cannot sync.
    http://www.geocities.com/jjcalzada2009/Picture2.jpg

    open iTunes
-plug the iPod into the computer
-hold both sleep/wake and home button until iPod restarts.
-let go of of the sleep/wake button when you see Apple logo.
-continue to hold home button until iTunes pops up with recovery mode
-click yes, and your iPod will be restored to its factory settings.

  • Cannot restore ipod 4th gen without updating to ios 4.2 and cannot do that

My son cannot remember his passcode to his new ipod touch 4th generation. I go into itunes to do a "RESTORE" and it won't restore unless I update to the new ios 4.2 software. When I try to update, I get the "network connection timed out" error. It will never update. I have disabled every bit of security on the computer, removed and uninstalled all anti-virus software, removed firewalls from windows and the router, unplugged and replugged in the modem and the router to do a hard reset, tried creating a new user account in Windows to see if that helped and it gave the same error. I was told by Apple that I must not be able to do it for some reason and I have to go to an Apple store to have it done. That is ridiculous that they can't even figure it out. My son just wants his ipod restored so he can use it and I just want to be able to do updates.

i fixed mine!@#!@# all i did was closed kaspersky and it worked i don't know what your problem is tho since u uninstalled your anti-virus
most people disable there anti virus but the anti virus doesn't fully close like kaspersky
i hope u fix your problem

  • No matter what I do I cannot restore ipod classic. Ipod is corrupt with unknown error 1439.cannot restore the ipod Have tried all options but . can anyone help?

I recently bought a second-hand ipod classic.  When connecting to itunes the message reads that the ipod is corrupt and needs to be restored to factory settings.  However, this does not solve the issue and I get the message saying unable to restore, unknown error 1439.  No matter what i have tried through apple support i get the same result.  My computer runs Windows XP but I have also tried on my laptop which operates Vista and still no joy.  Anyone able to solve this one?

Normally unknown error is due to timeout, cause by
connected to slow USB port at the front of the PC, or using USB Hubs - Better connect to the USB HUb at the back of the PC. (Some Laptop, has only one High Power -USB2.0 port
USB resource low, due to sharing of other USB devices - Disconnect all other USB devices when Restoring.

This wont solve your problem. but is very helpful in troubleshooting.
It would also help, if you can state
Which version of iTunes are your running?
What is your iPod software version as shown in the iTunes summary page?
