Cannot restore or update manually

I'd like to update to 5.1.1 on ipad 2. However, I kept getting the message this isn't eligeble for the requested build. I did the hosts file thing, now all hosts (with gs.apple in it) has a # and space infront of the numbers. I still get the error message. DFU doesn't work. Itunes, OS X updated. Help!!

I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1 on my iPad 2. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation if I try and install it. It claims that I have lost internet connection, which I have not. I cannot restore or update the iPad in iTunes either, if I try to, I get an error message which says that I 'do not have permission to access the requested resource'. I am using the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8. I have tried putting the iPad in recovery mode and restoring it with iTunes, the result is the same.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I've been having this problem for well over a week. If it is a corrupt download, is there some way of deleting it from the iPad and getting a new one?

iPod Hardisk failing - Do the iPod Disk Diagnostic refer to this earlier tt2 post
Slow USB port, low datarate, due to sharing with other USB devices - Disconnect all other USB devices while Restoring or syncing. Dont use any USB hub and also use the USB port at the back of the PC. and not the front.
CPU Resource drained by other Apps like email, Antivirus, web broswer - Stop them, but if stopping Antivirus please disconnect the PC from the Inernet first.

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:

This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). Nano completely crashed today and said to restore with iTunes but i get this error "Error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436 or 1439: Cannot restore or update iPod in iTunes 7 or later"

I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

IPod Video, cannot restore or update.

My new iPod worked 1 time. The first time I loaded the software that came with my iPod, I was able to downloaded music to my iPod. Since then, I am not able to update my iPod with iTunes or with the software in my iPod.

I received a 2008 iPod Classic hand-me-down from a friend, and wanted to format it and start using it. I formatted the drive in windows, and now when I start iTunes (using version 10.6.3.25), I get the following message "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod." When I try to restore, it holds on "contacting the iPod software update server," and then tells me that the iPod software update server could not be contacted.
I have looked around for solutions, and tried quite a few of them. I unchecked the boxes in internet options (automatically detect settings), deleted the itunespref xml file, used hostsxpert to reset the hosts file, and so on. I still have the same problem.
So here I am, posting on the forum asking for someone's expert help. Here is the little log that iTunes spits out for me:

Ok, I've got it all figured out, and wanted to leave a note here for posterity. Here's what I did.
After reading all of planb77's excellent suggestions and going through the links he sent, I decided to look at other aspects of iTunes and see if the problem was not limited to restoring my iPod. When I found that my iTunes store didn't work, I checked the forum for those issues, and found that AT&T Communication Manager was a common culprit in working with iTunes.
After 70 minutes on hold and a fruitless hour on the phone with AT&T trying to uninstall bytemobile optimization client, I left the AT&T guy insisting that it was not AT&T's problem, but rather Apple's.
I then looked further into bytemobile and iTunes, and found an elegantly simple solution, written in all caps: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3888541?start=0&tstart=0. You'll see it there. To spare you the link change, the advice was to uninstall iTunes 10 and everything else apple-related, download and install iTunes 9.2, find and delete the latest "itunes library.itl", and run your new iTunes. It solved my problem of restoring my iPod, and, incidentally, allowed me to access iTunes store. So there you have it. Problem solved.

I did all the updates last night both iTunes & my iPhone 3Gs. While the phone was updating my computer crashed, however the phone still says it is on the new operating system. I've tried a restoring the backup I did before updating the phone, however that back up just freezes. I left it connected to my computer for 4 hours last night and the loading bar didn't move at all. The only back up that is working is one from 5 months ago so all my current stuff is missing. I've tried force restore and nothing is working. I've just removed my sim card to see if that works. I've also noticed the iPhone itself is overheating. Please help if someone has had this problem and its been solved.

i had to start my phone from scratch so everything is missing, because the I have found my backup I want to restore to has become corrupted, possibly because my computer froze during the back up and update process. Since I have updated to the new os I have noticed everything is lagging and taking a lot longer to load.
