CANNOT RESTORE SECURITY COPY

I used to have an iPhone 4, and I had my security copy, then I bought an iPhone 4S, and was able to set this copy, and the phone was perfect, but somebody stole my phone, and I had to use my iPhone 4, I updated the iOS to 5, but when I connect the phone, I don´t have the option to restore the information, it only appears as a new phone, I had to use a new SIM card for this phone, and before syinchronizing I deleted all the info, and set the phone to factory info, it was like a new phone, I can see my copies of other phones, including this one and the one for the 4S, but I cannot restore the information.
Any Idea?

There should be an option for you to type in a password that will allow you to use the encrypted backup, do you see it anywhere?

  • Usb device not recognized...cannot restore or access drive on two computers

I cannot restore my ipod on two different computers and I am receiving the "cannot recognize" error message on both. Do I have a hardware damage issue? Replacing or updating the usbstor does nothing to alleviate the problem and when I attempt to restore i am told to plug in an ipod to restore...it doesn't recognize..if I plug into the 2nd computer's firewire, there are issues too..the ipod appears as an external and I can copy paste etc. but itunes won't recognize it...

Ah! Thank god, I was 10 minutes away from reformatting my computer because of this stupid problem! But hey, I got a question, this iPod nano is my second because my old one broke, but I had the warranty on my first one so I got a new one for... well, not as much as it would be without it. Is the replacement free? Aside from shipping+handling and if not, do you need the warranty to reduce the price?

  • Cannot Restore Apps On Older iPhones

I am still a happy user of an iPhone 2G, running iOS 3.1.3 (the latest compatible iOS version).
Some time ago, possibly after a faulty App Store update, my Slovoed application (a German dictionary bought 2-3 years ago for $20) stopped working.
I first tried to reinstall it from the App Store : no luck, the present Slovoed version (3.28) is not compatible with iOS 3 anymore.
I then thought, no problem, since I have a Mac iTunes save of my iPhone 2G, I will restore the proper Slovoed application from iTunes : no luck, apparently iTunes kept only the latest, incompatible version of Slovoed, possibly because I was synchronizing on the same Mac not only this iPhone 2G under iOS 3.1.3 but also an iPad mini under iOS 6.1.
Searching the Internet, I then discovered that when you save/synchronize, iTunes keeps only the latest versions of Apps in the /Users/<user>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications folder, pushing the previously saved versions of the Apps to the trash.
You can recover IN THE TRASH (!!) the .ipa files of the applications... as long as you have NOT emptied the trash since.
No luck again in my case...
I then tried to get the compatible Slovoed 3.01.ipa file directly from Slovoed support : they refused "for security reasons" (?!), suggesting I get a refund from the App Store !.
At that point, I am completely stuck : I paid for an App which I cannot restore at all with the proper original version.
Bottom line : you can buy an Application on the App Store, install it on your iPhone, synchronize regularly your iPhone with a Mac or PC, and still being unable later on to restore the proper compatible version on your iPhone when you direly need it !
This would never have happened on any old Mac/PC for which you had kept the install disks !
One can understand that Apple wants to accelerate its older iPhones obsolescence, but it is completely abnormal you cannot restore from the App Store older applications you fully bought, when the latest versions have become incompatible, and while iTunes does not keep proper Apps backups.
Shame on you Apple, at some point there will be enough people with the same issue to give ground to a nice class action suite...

Answering to so many posts in such an authoritative way  obviously gave you a false superiority complex...
But may be if you don't want to understand what is plainly written, it is just because you are a troll paid to discourage those too critical about Apple ?
It is Apple who decided to have the App Store maintain a single App version for download, when they could as easily differentiate between versions depending on the iPhone version or iOS version.
It is Apple who built a save/restore mechanism in iTunes which does not allow restoration of Apps properly saved.
Sure, Apps developers could have Apps running on all 6 versions of iOS. But that never happened in the Mac/PC world, that will not happen in the iOS world, and anyway that's not what I am asking for.
I am asking for a save/restore mechanism WHICH WORKS and restores the iPhone in the same state it was when saved, APPS INCLUDED !!!

  • Help: Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware

I want to recover a complete image of a Windows 7 operating system I have backed up to my other server. But I am getting the error "Windows cannot restore a system image to a computer with different firmware. The System Image was created by a computer using BIOS and this computer is using EFI"
The image was definitely taken from this machine - the firmware has not changed!
What do I need to do to restore the image?
    Background Story ..
I bought a new HP 255 laptop per-installed with Windows 7 without Operating Systems instal disks (I will NEVER be stupid enough to do that again!).
I took a complete image of the systems, as suggested so that I was well backed up.
However, my machine corrupted its operating systems with a few weeks. The boot recovery CD did not work (would not boot). So in desperation, and because time was short I went out and bought another, legitimate copy of Windows 7 DVD with a license key (So now I have 2, legitimate copies of the operating system!).
I installed the new copy of Windows 7 - but it was dreadful, because many drivers were missing. Mostly the missing drivers were not available on the HP support site for this machine. ALso, boot up was increadibly slow compared to the original OS installation.
So I created a new boot recovery disk from the new version of Windows, and tried to restore using that. New boot disk loads ok, I can find the old image on my network (after loading a few network drivers). But I won't instal the image - giving the above error message.
I tried deleting the EFI partition from the disk (using GPARTED to reformat that partition). That killed the Windows 7 on the machine - but still gives the same error message when I try to re-image the machine.
I have tried going into the BIOS settings .. HP 255 has a "Legacy Mode" - which I have enabled, but this makes no difference at all!
I think that the kind of solutions I am looking for might be:
    1. There is a clever way of disabling EFI on my 255 so that it looks like a legacy BIOS machine, or
    2. This EFI this is wired into my new boot recovery disk - and there is a way of creating a boot recovery disk that does not use EFI
This has taken me about 2 weeks so far, please help with any suggestions!

    Erico,
I suspect that "MSDOS" is what the Gparted tool calls "MBR" for a partition table, as explained here:
    http://superuser.com/questions/700770/mbr-equals-msdos-for-gparted
I think that you are suggesting I give up on trying to recover the image I have stored on my server and just to instal Windows 7 from my new copy. There are two problems with this.
    1. After having systematically downloaded all of the drivers from the HP 255 notebook support page, I am still seeing missing drivers listed. Install the AMD graphics softpaq driver first. It also contains the chipset drivers.
    2. The machine is taking a hugely long time to boot up, and seems much slower with this version. Maybe that is a product of using "EFI" rather than "bios" - I don't know.
My assumption is that HP had some special set-up option with their version of Windows which makes the machine more performant. It does not seem to be a coincidence that the image they deliver the machine with is not quite compatible with a 'normal' Windows 7 instal.
So my original question stands: How do I recover the image that I saved away (as per instructed) when I first bough the machine?
You still have not said what you used to create the system image. What is the "image" file's extension?
You are mistaken in your comparison. MSDOS is an operating sytem MBR is a partitioning scheme.  that is comparing apples to oranges.
The article is making an oblique reference in that using GPARTED is more or less equated to using the diskpart utility at the command line. Everything done at the comand line is essentially  done by use of MSDOS commands. GPARTED does the same thing with LINUX commands via a graphical interface so you don't have to type in the commands in a  Linux console.
Do you mean making a backup? a backup is not a clone which can be reproduced on different hardware. The SSD disk replacement does make the hardware differ from the original configuration.
Follow the instaructions on the following tutorial to make your disk a GPT type before installing.

  • Mac mini cannot restore

My mac mini is version late2012 updated to 10.8.5. It cannot boot up after I install USB driver ( I nned that driver for my 4G USB Dongle). After that I restore using internet and I'm sure it complete download during restore process ( log file shows all 424 chunk downloaded) but when it restart by itself it hang like before. I did this 2 times which mean that I waste my download quota about 9G. Anyway I try other way by making USB bootable both form 10.8 and 10.8.1. I purchase Lion via App Store and restore to USB. But still cannot restore.
One step that I not yet try is to completely Erase the volume. I want to customize during restore and repair back the driver and I love my 600G data and no backup yet.
    Any help?

That means the startup drive is malfunctioning.
If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Cannot Restore Site Data

Using Dreamweaver MX 2004 in Vista Ultimate SP1, I cannot
    restore my configuration folder.

    %APPDATA%\Roaming\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration
folder and restore it to my new installation (just re-formatted my
machine). However, each time I do this DW renames the Configuration
folder to "Configuration-1" and creates a new, empty Configuration
folder when I launch DW. No errors that I can see, it just won't
use the old configuration data. I've tried just copying the data
into the newly created configuration folder and DW still renames it
when I launch DW again. I'm on the same machine running the same OS
as before, just re-formatted. I had over a dozen sites setup and I
don't want to lose them. Please advise!

Yes - but nowhere does that note mention Vista.
Only Dw CS3 is validated to work on Vista.
If you have a dozen sites - maybe it would be a good
    investment to
update to CS4 when it is released.

  • Cannot restore iPhone 4 after IOS 5 update

So i updated my phone last night and it said that it needed to be resotred so I did, but just before it finished, it did not complete it and now will not restore at all. Keeps coming up with Error (1). I have followed the steps to what apple have given me by restarting my laptop, making sure I have the most recent iTunes and making sure all my software is upto date. and it all is, but I still cannot restore it. Can someone PLEASE help me! I have contacted Apple and the place where i got it from and they had no idea and could not help me. so could someone PLEASE PLEASE help me??

My best suggest is with error 1 is to make sure that your security software on your comptuer is temporarily disabled. That's very common with itunes restore errors- and more specifically with that errror code. If you can't get it to restore after disabling it...you can try another computer to restore and then bring it back to your original comptuer to sync or restore from you backup.
All else fail with that contact Apple Technical support at 1-800-694-7466 With further instructions. But they will definitely ask you about that security software....

I have downloaded an update for my ipod 4th, and after that all my songs, pictures and apps have been erased, Is there some way to recover all my information without have done a security copy?

I supsect you did the update on other than your syncing computer. If yu did the app, music and synced photo will not be on the iPod after the update since those items are not in the backup that iTunes makes. See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
The above applies to all updates performedvia USB on a computer. To get stuff back, restore from backup on the syncing computer.
The above in my educated guess since you provided litle information about how you did the update.
You can redownload many iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Cannot Restore Windows 7

A relative came to me, asking for help. The notebook is a HP Pavillon dm4-2040ez.
I found out that HP warranty was just over and the harddisk was broken. So we ordered a new SSD and I installed a clean version of Windows 7 from my DVD, but did not activate it (30 days time to do so). I recommended to either buy Windows 8 or order the recovery DVDs. Windows worked fine so far. Owner decided to order the recovery disks.
After they arrived, I noticed that the optical drive was broken too. But the owner doesn't really need it, so I copied the first recovery DVD to an USB stick (on my PC) and made it bootable and then booted the HP machine from the USB stick. That worked fine but after booting I just get the progress bar ("Windows is loading files" or something like that) then some scripts start. Then the machine boots again - and everything repeats.
So I cannot restore Windows that way. What's the problem? Obviously not the hardware, as it worked with my installation before. Do the recovery DVDs require to start them from an optical drive or what? Or was the disk maybe broken somehow? Any other ideas?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
The OEM key works on the retail Vista and W7 downloads, not like XP where you need the OEM disk to match the OEM key.
Follow the steps below and you will be all set.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link  below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
Use the 25 character windows 7 product key to activate your installation.
    http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below. Download the applicable version of Windows 7 that is on your product key (Home Premium, Pro, or Ultimate).
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-Multiple-Languag...
You can't make a bootable usb flash drive from one disk.
What will you do when the system asks you to insert another disk?
The recovery disks are image files and they are looking for the same size hard drive to install on.

  • HT201210 cannot restore iPhone 5s.  error code 40

I cannot restore my iphone 5s after multiple blue screens and I cannot reset with the home-on buttons together.  I updated all software on my mac as suggested and I still get error code (40).  Any help out there?

Here's what error 40 can be about:
    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
    Common errors: 1, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020.
Has the software on your phone been modified?
