Cannot retrieve aur packages installed with yaourt

I accidently deleted /var/lib/pacman folder while attempting to solve my update issues (updating system after a long time) . I restored my local pacman database with the excellent guide in the wiki using /var/log/pacman.log  http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pac … l_database. I was able to update and restore my system. However, yaourt is not listing my installed aur packages. I re-installed yaourt and tried packer as well but it is not able to find the aur packages I installed using yaourt earlier to my update ( It is able to install and list new aur packages) . I can run the old aur packages  but I am not able to remove or list them. How can I list these lost aur packages or remove them completely? Is there a way to retrieve the database for aur packages installed with yaourt?
Thanks.

Hi karol,
Thanks for your response.
Executing pacman -Qm only lists aur packages which were installed after I accidently deleted /var/lib/pacman. I am not able to list those aur packages that I installed with yaourt prior to my /var/lib/pacman deletion. I am not sure how the accidental deletion and this issue is related, but I would like to delete these old aur packages. One example of such an aur package installed through yaourt (prior to blunder of /var/lib/pacman deletion ) was chromium-browser. I am able to run chromium-browser, but since this package is very old I would like to remove it. However, neither pacman nor yaourt is able to remove it.

Chromium-browser is just one of the packages I remember having installed using yaourt prior to the /var/lib/pacman deletion. I would like to know if there is a way to find all such aur packages installed through yaourt prior to /var/lib/pacman deletion and if possible, delete them.
Thanks.

  • [solved] list all aur packages installed

    Hi,
    I'm looking a comman which list all AUR packages installed on my system. Man yaourt or man pacman don't help me (but maybe I missed something).
    Is it possible to list these AUR packages ?

    yaourt -Q | grep local/
    Works for me. I'm sure someone will have a better solution though.

  • [Solved] List AUR packages installed and only AUR packages.

    Here's a good one.  Thought this would be easy but thought it over and then looked around a bit and haven't found anything.  There's might just be an easy way to do this that will make me *bonk* my head in the morning but I haven't found it yet.  I'm looking to be able to just list the packages I have installed from AUR and not any that I have gotten from the official repos.  I've checked out some utilities in AUR (like AURcheck) but as far as I can tell they just look for AUR updates.  Anyone know of a way to do this?

    I just got to reinstalling and this was a lifesaver - it worked great.  Thank for the help, brisbin, ghost, Allan...
    @Ghost, I would have used packup but I had a couple downgraded packages and I wanted to be able to troubleshoot it.
    The tip about the grep -v doing 'shortnameplus' was a good tip, Profjim.  I hadn't read this last post before and during the reinstall I was a bit surprised nvidia wasn't installed so... all is good now.
    I created a script to be able to create the backup list and restores from it simliar to ghosts and am able to run it in cron job.  Probably not a big deal, but... phhht.  Here it is for anyone that can use it:
    #!/bin/bash
    # pacbac - Create and restore from list all installed packages

  • Check status of MY aur packages installed

    hi, is it possible to check the status about aur packges installed?
    example: if I have installed "gtk-engine-murrine-cvs" , "nautilus-send-to" and "emesene-cvs" from AUR. Do it something like this:
    $ yaourt -Xyu
    available updates: gtk-engine-murrine-cvs  nautilus-send-to
    Install ? (Y)es / (N)o
    is it possible XD?
    thanks

    Well, a new update for opera is available from AUR, but when I do
    yaourt -Syu --aur
    I got this:
    jano@jx-machine~$ yaourt -Syu --aur

  • [SOLVED] Make Pacman cache packages installed with -U

    When installing a package with -U, pacman doesn't cache packages as it does when installing with -S. Is there a way to change this behavior?
    I read somewhere that specifying the package's full path and prepending "file://", as in "pacman -U file://path/to/package.pkg.tar.xz", but this often complains of an "invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)".
    How can I make pacman always copy installed packages to the cache?
    MOD EDIT: change 'closed' to 'solved' in title to avoid confusion
    Last edited by fukawi2 (2013-07-06 13:09:21)

    You can't.  This has been discussed on the bugtracker several times.
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/35699
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31243
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/15143
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18012
    If you're building the packages yourself with makepkg, you can set PKGDEST to your cache in makepkg.conf.  Otherwise you could write a small pacman wrapper that copies the package after installing it.

  • [SOLVED] updating aur package "install: cannot stat ...: No such file"

    This is my first attempt at creating a new package so I decided to update the orphaned crtmpserver package and I'm getting an error where makepkg cannot locate a file...
    I'm test building the package in /var/abs/local/rtmpd directory which contains two files PKGBUILD and rtmpd.service.
    PKGBUILD:
    pkgname=rtmpd-svn
    pkgver=811
    pkgrel=1.1
    pkgdesc="High performance rtmp streaming server"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://www.rtmpd.com"
    license=('GPL')
    depends=('openssl')
    makedepends=('subversion' 'cmake' 'lua')
    provides=('crtmpserver')

    _svntrunk='https://svn.rtmpd.com/crtmpserver/trunk'
    _svnmod='crtmpserver'
    _svnbuild='crtmpserver/crtmpserver'
    source=('rtmpd.service')

    build() {

    svn co --non-interactive --no-auth-cache --username anonymous --password "" https://svn.rtmpd.com/crtmpserver/trunk crtmpserver
    cd $_svnmod/builders/cmake
    sh cleanup.sh
    cmake -DCRTMPSERVER_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr

    cd $_svnmod/builders/cmake
    make DESTDIR="$pkgdir" install
    install -dm644 "$pkgdir/etc/crtmpserver"
    mv "$pkgdir/usr/etc/crtmpserver.lua.sample" "$pkgdir/etc/crtmpserver"
    rm -rf "$pkgdir/usr/etc"
    install -D -m644 "rtmpd.service" "$pkgdir/usr/lib/systemd/system/rtmpd.service"

    and that's the mystery to me.  Makepkg finds rtmpd.service when it starts but cannot find it when it's time to package.
    Where's it looking ?

    The service file is in $srcdir, not $_svnmod/builders/cmake.
    You're using an outdated PKGBUILD template too. The svn source should be included in the source array and not checked out manually during the build process.
    EDIT: since this repository requires authentication, perhaps the correct format won't work.

  • I've developed a way to AUR search+install with pacman via proxy

    at the moment it's not complete, and the database is up-to-date only as of Oct-16-2007;; but i believe it's in a stable position to be tested ..
    i look forward to your feedback
    so anyway .. i call it alaura, and it is a system developed in python to create a pacman database in order to allow
    users to search as they normally would, and simply issue a command .. pacman -S pkg-in-aur and have that
    pkg installed as they would any other pkg ...
    add
    [alaura]
    Server = http://arch.u54.eu/repo
    to your pacman.conf
    the client side of the system is basically, download pkg from alaura repo, that pkg has an install script,
    the install script removes the (alaura)proxy pkg and then uses yaourt(i hope to develop a simpler installer that does one job) to install the pkg from aur
    . ad oh, the repo is generated using gradgrind's gen_repo script
    so far i've only indexed 100 pkgs :: `pacman -Sl alaura`
    more details will be published soon, i have to go study now ...

    no one seemed interested, so when i switched to using a laptop i didn't take the code with me, i have a slightly older version somewhere though,
    i have exams this week but i will prolly squeeze a tester out, i still have my design of the system somewhere as well so it shouldn't be too difficult to pickup where i left off
    thanks for taking an interest.

    The first code block contains my Xorg.0.log however I just tryed modprove nvidia and recieved FATAL: Module nvidia not found. which I discovered was solved by someone here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=961852 however when I tryed to do a pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils I get a unresolved confilict with nvidia-304xx-utils which after trying to remove with pacman -Rs shows dependencies with cario, Im not sure how far back I should start removing things to solve this conflict or how to go abouts solving it
    +++++++++
    Update: Solved
    +++++++++
    I did some more looking and found I could force the uninstall of nvidia-304xx-lts with pacman -Rdds nvidia-304xx-lts and after revisiting the Nvidia page on the wiki for the dozenth time I started thinking maybe I needed nvidia-304xx oposed to the lts release as google as kindly pointed out lts is long term support and maybe my kernel was not lts and thus conflicting.  This turned out to be the case, after removing the ofending lts version of the driver, replacing with the correct nvidia-304xx , another nvidia-xconfig and reboot followed by modprobe nvida and startxfce4 my wounderfull xfce is now running as I type this messsage in firefox.  Thank you for you help, as you asking about the modprobe output caused the chain of events leading to the success.

  • I just purchased photoshop elements12 7 days ago. I have yet to be able to get my redemption code to work. I cannot retrieve my serial number with out it.

    I have gone thru all the links to try to get it to work (several times), including uninstalling and reinstalling, called Best Buy where I purchased it, called the Best Buy 1-888 Main Geek Squad number, and now I am back to this adobe forum trying to get SOMEONE to assist me in getting my redemption code to work.  Can you help me?

    You can send the redemption code to me through a direct message and I can investigate it.

  • [SOLVED] search just package name (not description) with yaourt

    Is there a way to search just package names (not package descriptions) with yaourt or pacman?  I'm imagining something like this:
    $ yaourt  -Ss  --pkgname-only  xterm
    Thanks!
    Last edited by partner55083777 (2010-02-03 16:30:43)

    My question still stands as to how I can search just package names.  If it is using another program other than yaourt or pacman, that is okay.
    "yaourt -Ss SEARCH_STRING" has been working as stated in the documentation for me (with yaourt-0.9.2.6).  It will return all packages that have SEARCH_STRING in either the package name or package description.
    Here are the first three results when running this command:
    $ yaourt -Ss emacs
    extra/emacs 23.1-3 [installed]
         The Emacs Editor
    extra/snd 10.1-1
         Snd is the emacs of sound editor
    extra/texmacs 1.0.7-3
         GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was both inspired by TeX
         and GNU Emacs. WYSIWYG editor TeX-fonts and CAS-interface (Giac, GTybalt,
         Macaulay 2, Maxima, Octave, Pari, Qcl, R and Yacas) in one.
    $
    It looks like it works as specified in the man pages:
    -s, --search <'regexp'>
               This will search each package in the sync databases for names or descriptions that match regexp.
               When you include multiple search terms, only packages with descriptions matching ALL of those terms will be returned.

  • Aura Vs Yaourt different number of out-of-date AUR packages

    After seeing the release announcement for Aura 1.2.0 I figured I would try it out and see what I thought of it.  There are a lot of differences between the two usability wise, one of the biggest that will take some getting use to separation of Pacman repos and AUR which makes sense.  One thing that I am worried about is that Yaourt and Aura gives different number of AUR packages that are out of date.
    Yaourt says aur/foomatic-db-foo2zjs is out-of-date, but Aura states "No AUR package upgrades necessary."  Does Aura track AUR packages differently than Yaourt or is this due to something else?

    Such nonsense.... all packages should be installed/removed by pacman, regardless of the helper. Any helper that doesn't use pacman correctly should be ashamed of itself.
    I recommend you bin both of them and use cower.

  • I cannot get the Elements 12 to install with Windows 8

    I purchased Elements 12 just the other day, it downloaded and now I cannot get it to install with Windows 8. When I try to open it, nothing happens. Please assist. Thanks.

    right click the installation file and click "run as administrator".
    if that fails do you have bitdefender av?

  • New binutils 2.22 causing havoc on many AUR packages

    Many posts around here showing that this is a common problem. ld has changed behaviour and has broken some packages that don't explicitly link to libraries.
    My example: Minutor
    gcc -Wl,--as-needed -o minutor minutor.o mapviewer.o colorschemes.o `pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0` MinutorMap/MinutorMap.a
    /usr/bin/ld: MinutorMap/MinutorMap.a(nbt.o): undefined reference to symbol 'gzopen'
    /usr/bin/ld: note: 'gzopen' is defined in DSO /usr/lib/libz.so.1 so try adding it to the linker command line
    /usr/lib/libz.so.1: could not read symbols: Invalid operation
    collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
    make: *** [minutor] Error 1
    Related info I found on the Fedora Wiki
    All posts so far suggest adding things to LDFLAGS but none of them have worked for me yet. Found on thread "EMC2 Simulator (CNC) PKGBUILD":
    falconindy wrote:
    --as-needed isn't the problem here, it's transitive linking. See the first item in the ld changelog for binutils 2.22. There's two options:
    - add "-Wl,--copy-dt-needed-entries" to LDFLAGS
    - add "-lXt" to LDFLAGS
    Either way, this should be fixed upstream. You should explicitly link against any library you depend on.
    This didn't work for me whether I put it in the PKGBUILD or /etc/makepkg.conf
    Any ideas?
    EDIT: It appears that the LDFLAGS are not being added to the gcc line shown above no matter where I put the additional LDFLAGS. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.

    I maintain one package in AUR and it hit this issue. From this I extrapolate that every AUR package is broken

  • Yaourt: Problems installing generated AUR packages [SOLVED]

    Hello.
    I'm using Archlinux and the system works flawessly. Sadly, there's a problem when trying to install AUR packages.
    The following happens installing any AUR package I tried lately.
    ==>  Continue installing wicked-git? [Y/n]
    ==>  [v]iew package contents [c]heck package with namcap
    ==>   ----------------------------------------------
    ==>y
    loading package data...
    error: './wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz': cannot open package file
    ==> WARNING: Your package is saved in /tmp/yaourt-tmp-timofonic/wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    cp: cannot stat `./wicked-git-20090112-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz': No such file or directory
    ==> WARNING: Unable to copy wicked-git-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz to /tmp/yaourt-tmp-timofonic/ directory
    Any idea about how to fix it? I tried using both an user with sudo and root, same problem.
    Regards.

    Perhaps the method to use is given by the man pacman files.
    pacman -U (.pkg.tar.gz package ID found in the directory generating the package)
    For example:  ...pacman -U /var/local/kernel26-2.6.30-5-x86-64.pkg.tar.gz......since the pkg generated is in that directory for this theoretical case.
    Any locally generated package is loaded with ...pacman -U....
    What do you mean? The package doesn't exist, I double checked it.
    Maybe I need to check where yaourt writes it. Any suggestion about what util to use for that?
    EDIT: I used "lsof" command and found the file is there, but yaourt can't locate it and deletes the directory after
    $ ls /tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/w*
    /tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/wicked-git-20090708-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    /tmp/yaourt-tmp-root/aur-wicked-git/wicked-git/wicked-git-20090709-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    Please, could anyone help me to solve this problem?
