Cannot retrieve email from Mail account on iCloud

SInce Tuesday, Sept 11th I have been unable to retrieve my messages on my iCloud mail account.  Mail doesn't work on my MacBook Pro or any of my devices (iphone or ipad).  When I try to log on to iCloud I can see my calendar and contacts, however I cannot access my mail.  When I ran Connection Doctor I get the following message:
"Trying to log in to this iCloud IMAP account failed.  Verify that the username and password are correct.  Also verify that the server supports Apple Token authentication.  If it does not, choose an appropriate authentication setting in the Advanced tab of the Account preferences."
Mail continues to place this email account in an offline position moments after I click to take it online.
I've read some reports of others having this problem occur on Tuesday as well.  Is this an iCloud issue?  Please advise.

You can try deleting the account on your iphone and setting it up again.

  • Cannot send emails from mail account.

    Hello everyone,
I've had this problem a while, that basically when i send an email from my account it says
Cannot send message using the server xxxxxxxx
when i try other servers it still doesn't work and i get the same error message. I have other computers on which mail works from the same server, same port same password etc. so why doesn't this work.
If you can help me i will be eternally greatful as i won't have to keep jumping on someone elses computer to reply to mail.
    Thank you in advance
    Fred

    Hello Fred.
If you’re sure your settings are exactly the same as on the computers where it works, here a couple of things that you may want to look at.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
Mail keeps information about outgoing servers in a separate list, independently of any specific mail account. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there. The Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.

  • I cannot send email from my account.

I cannot send email from my account.  Connections Doctor reports that I am signed in and connected.  I I have updated all of my keychain information and my passwords are current.

    Hi there,
It sounds like you have already done a few of the steps, but I would still recommend reviewing the troubleshooting process found in the article below.

  • Cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI

I cannot send email from pop account when in 3G, will send in WIFI.
I thought it was the SMTP server first.. but when i config my WIFI, suddenly the emails that i tried to send, left my outbox and sent.
    Any idea's

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • How do I fix Mail in Snow Leopard where I cannot send emails from my account to another account I've set up in Mail, but the reverse works fine?

I have a problem with Mail in Snow Leopard in that I cannot set up two email accounts for myself and my wife with the same ISP and have them operate properly.  I've set up the accounts in strict accordance with my ISP's instructions for setting up email accounts on Mac Mail but I cannot send an email from my account to my wife's without a drop-down message appearing that Mail 'cannot send the email from this server.  Please edit the server list'.  No amount of tweaking appears to work.  Applecare consultants have so far been unable to get it to work and a recent visit to the local Genius Bar in the Apple Store was fruitless also.  My ISP's help line was unable to solve the problem even with a supervisor level consultant.  The ISP concluded it was some kind of 'bug' in Mail.
I could send emails from my wife's account to mine, but not vice versa; I could send emails to other addresees without any problem and I can send emails from my account to my wife's using the ISP's webmail.
Does anyone please have a solution to my problem?  At the moment we're operating one account (mine) on my Macbook and my wife's is set up on her iPad2.  As we prefer to use the Macbook for storage and (using Time Machine) for back-up of our data, the two accounts on separate machines is a nuisance.
Another factor is that I prefer to control when I download emails and set my preferences accordingly.  One of the so-called 'fixes' that were tried wound up downloading emails regardless of settings, even after removing my wife's account; the matter was remedied only after I had removed all accounts form Mail and started afresh from scratch.

You'll have to pardon my ignorance of some  computer terminology; I'm a retired manager and not a computer technician, hence my muddling up of client and server terminology.
Re your comment about Port 339: I did qualify this with (?).  As I wrote, it all happened at lightining speed and the guy at the Genius Bar didn't bother explaining what he was doing.  Port designation contained 3s and 9s to the best of my recollection.
That said, you seem to be spot on re setting up a 'dummy' client in Mail.  I set it up as you suggested and I can send to and receive from this client without a problem.  You appear to have identified the solution, notwithstanding the claims of the ISP's 'experts'.
The next problem I have now is sorting out my wife's mailbox that is so troublesome whenever I set it up on Mail.
All the other set-up advice to date yielded a similar result; inability to send from my account to her inbox.  Perhaps deleting her details from the account altogether and setting them up again from scratch may be the solution and I shall try that in due course.  The impediment that I have with this at the moment is that my ISP admits that it has 'a technical problem with its email servers' and some of its related web pages that prevent my doing this myself.  I will have to go through the telephone 'help' line and ask the technician to set it up at their end on my instructions.  This has some disadvantages in that I have to divulge the password to the account to the operator rather than keeping it anonymous by doing it on-line.   You may have solved the problem, but until I can successfully sort out a working mailbox for my wife i cannot definitively say so.
Many thanks for your perseverance.  You've made more sense than anyone else so far and that deserves some points, surely?

  • Cannot get email from tiscali account

    Hi,
I recently changed my password on my tiscali email account. i can get my emails OK on the computer but ever since I have been unable to get emails from this account on my iphone.I have changed the password on the phone, deleted and re-added account, turned phone on and off, in fact everything i can think of but still get the error message 'cannot get mail' the user name or passwordfor tiscali.co.uk is incorrect.
i have another email account not from tiscali and i can get the emails ok , also can access internet.
    Can anyone help?
    many thanks,
    jane

I assume that though your signature says you are running 10.4.8 you are actually running Lion or Mountain Lion? If so please amend the signature to prevent confusion.
Go to System Preferences>iCloud and uncheck Mail in the list there: then re-check it. This should set Mail up again to access the account. If this doesn't work, sign out completely, reboot, then sign back in again. You iCloud data will disappear from your Mac but reappear when you sign back in.

  • Cannot send email from 3 accounts Mac Pro

My brand new Mac Pro cannot send email using Gmail, Shaw, or iCloud.  At times I can send a simple test message, other times I cannot send.  It seems the more data in the email, it for sure cannot be sent.  The sent messages get stuck in the Out Box.  Full green lights, no red lights in the connection diagnostics window.  Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.

thank you for your reply, I did this with the same problem.  Turns out that I went to FAQ section and went to the "Sharing" section of "system preferences"  and changed my computer name by removing all spaces and apostrophe where it lists my computer name under Mac Book Pro, and problem solved.

    Hi Judy,

Go into Mail/Acounts and delete you iCloud account.
Now add a new account and type in your details for MobileMe/iCloud.
It should now work. O noticed the default server name is different.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot send email from aim account

From a quick internet search, it appears I'm not the only one with this particular problem. When I try to send mail from my iPhone from my Aim mail account, the "from" name shows my aim ID with an extension of "@[email protected]". Clearly, with this double domain, the outbound mail cannot go through. I cannot edit that From address anywhere that I can find in order to fix the problem. I've deleted the email account from my phone and re-added it, but the problem continues. Any advice?

Here's the response I received from Yahoo following the link you posted. As usual, nothing that moves the problem closer to a solution. First, there is an attempt at deflecting the problem by pointing out all the other great services Yahoo offers. Note the operative word "some". That's the whole reason I am writing the note. I already know that "some" of the services are working. I'm wondering about the one that doesn't so this doesn't help. Next comes pass the buck. Go talk to Apple about it. No comment on that one, it speaks for itself. And finally, if none of that works please give me more information. I'll call that reflection. So now its back to me. I think I'll take the ball and go home. For what its worth the response is below:

  • Cannot send email from bigpond account when using overseas telco network

I am sure this question has been asked and answered before but I cannot find a definitive answer on this forum I am on the Telstra network locally but when I travel to Malaysia I use a local SIM card with data, as the rates are much cheaper than anything Telstra can matchI find I can receive emails on my bigpond email account but cannot send. Can someone from Telstra publish something in this forum or on the general Telstra help pages on what settings to use exactly so that you can send and receive emails from your bigpond account while using another network overseas. I have tried changing the outgoing mail server account to the local network provider's but I am still unable to send Thanks

    Hi Mazzi,
When travelling overseas you can access your BigPond mailbox through an email program, or via the BigPond Webmailhttp://messaging.bigpond.com/inbox.do or http://webmail.bigpond.com/webedge/do/oldlogin. If you choose to use an email program, some settings will need to be adjusted, as mentioned below.
While there are no 'perfect' settings which will work every time and from every country, it may as simple as adjusting the Authentication on the outgoing mail server.
If you are accessing the internet via another Internet Service Provider (ISP), but want to send email through our outgoing mail server using your BigPond email address, then you must activate SMTP authentication. For the purposes of this, think of an 'SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server' as the outbound mail server.
Make sure that you have adjusted the outgoing port settings as listed below, or configure your mail client so that it uses the service provider's SMTP server, with SMTP Authentication disabled. If you are uncertain on what this is, you can usually search for this online, or alternatively contact the service provider that is providing your internet access.
If you are uncertain which mail platform you are on, you can confirm this by logging in here.
The complete list of email settings (including IMAP for Outlook.com accounts) can be found here.
Should you require immediate assistance while overseas, our BigPond Technical Support Team are available 24 hours, 7 days a week via Live Chat

  • Cannot send email from yahoo account on iPhone 5

I just got an iPhone5 and I couldn't set up my Yahoo email as "yahoo"--it would not allow me to complete the process despot multiple attempts. I had to set it up as an "other" account. I can receive and read emails on my phone, but when I reply those messages will not send. They go to the outbox and an error message pops up that says" the email account has been rejected by the server" Does anyone have advice on either issue: setting up yahoo properly and/or sending email from phone?

    outgoing mail server
    SMTP - Yahoo! SMTP Server
    primary server
    Yahoo! SMTP server - ON
    server port 465
That's what I have for my yahoo account.

  • Cannot delete email from POP account

I have a POP mail account. Several emails keep coming in my inbox over and over. I have deleted them on the POP server. I have deleted them from my inbox & trash. I have rebuild my mail. I have unchecked store deleted messages on the server, saved, rechecked & run the rebuild. I have tried moving the messages to a folder & then when it gets new mail, that folder is empty & they are back in the inbox. Help this is driving me nuts

try rebuilding the entire mail index. quit mail and move the file homedirectory/library/mail/Envelope Index to the desktop. start mail and let it import (that means reindex). see if the messages stay deleted now.

  • I cannot retrieve email from company exchange?

I am trying to retreieve my email from my company, I have no problem connecting using IOS7 on both my iPad and iPhone but cannot connect from my iMac or Macbook Pro? I have spoken with our IT deprt but still no joy, however, I downloaded TouchDown (Beta) from NitroDesk yesterday and believe it or not I downloaded all my mail on my desktop! Happy days you might think...yes to a degree but as it is still in beta it is very limited, but my question is, how come this email client can connect but Apple Mail or Outlook cannot? Same settings...

Well TouchDown is ceratinly downloading all my mail okay, but like I said previously it is still in beta and is quite limited. I was hoping someone was aware of maybe another email client that would also work like TouchDown but with better features...
I will have another chat with our IT department next week but to be honest its very political at our company so I am not going to hold my breath. Thanks for the replies thus far.
