Cannot right click in Finder column view
Hello,
I'm having a **** of a time trying to figure out why I can no longer right click in Finder's column view. Everything else seems to be alright.
All other apps and finder view options are ok. Just when in column view, the right click functin for a file of folder is not working, but I can right click in the blank space inside a folder in Finder's column view.
So strange. Such an isolated issue.
I have tried a Disk permission repair, restart, shut down and turn on. I even deleted the "com.apple.finder.plist" file and restarted. Still won't work.
From what I can gather the issue arrised when I received a couple image files from a client via Wetransfer. I scanned the files and no infected files were found.
I have even enabled the hidden files and nothing looks out of the ordinary.
I'm stumpped.
Mike M.
Same problem from yesterday.
It is apparently caused by the Google Drive, see:

Windows XP - no icons, no taskbar, cannot right click
Hello TechNet Support -
Wasn't able to view all forums, am hoping this question will appear in the correct one.
Helping a friend with his Dell desktop - Windows XP SP3. When we try to start up, the desktop background picture appears, but that's it. No desktop icons, no taskbar, cannot right click, nothing.
When I open Task Manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del, I can click the New Task button and run a few programs. IE, Outlook Express, and others. We cannot get to File Manager or any file window that would access his data. Control.exe does not open. [NOTE: sorry, I said
Control.exe but meant Explorer.exe]
I opened a command prompt window and ran chkdsk without /F, it listed a number of index errors. when I ran with /F and said yes to run at next boot Chkdsk did run, but no results, no changes were made, even with /F.
All help appreciated,
John
John MurrayUgh. I had this exact problem many years ago three separate times. I fixed it by going into the control panel...have you just typed in "control" or "explorer" to see if that works? Unfortunately I cannot recall for
the life of me what I did after that...I can try to see if I can find something on it later on today but I was able to find my solution online so it should be out there somewhere. There shouldn't be any reason to wipe the system, but the third time it
happened to me was when I moved up to the next OS. Just sayin'

Cannot right click in web browser
Cannot right click to save pictures or to open up another tab inside web browser.
There are other things that need attention:
You have or had an extension installed (NET_mmhpset) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.13 to Firefox/3.5.5.
'''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 YFF3 Firefox/3.5.5 NET_mmhpset ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)'''
You can check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website.
Filter: general.useragent
If general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose Reset.
Sort files in Finder Column View?
Like to sort files by date in column view, is this possible? I know you can do it in List view, but can't seem to do this in column view. It would have to be folder specific, as the upper level (which are folders of folders) should be alphabetical, then the folder with files I'd like to sort by date created. Now, all are presented in alphabetical order, and then I have to scroll down to get to them.
Thanks!Nope, can't be done in Finder column view - alphabetical is the only option.

10.4 style draggable timeline audio preview in Finder/column view?
For the love of Steve please tell me this vital workflow feature/tool has been re-instated in SL. For folks who work with hundreds of audio files the removal in Leopard of the ability to scroll through audio files in a Finder column view window was a real kick in the teeth. In Leopard the only way to access a scrollable preview of an audio file is to open QuickView, effectively disabling ANY OTHER FINDER ACTION during the preview. Sorry to shout here but this is just...a dreadful step backwards. Not only functionally but also an annoying percentage of files (that should and do play in QT etc) will not play in QuickView and fast-ish previewing through multiple files will often crash QuickView.
Please let it be fixed.I fedback btw, thanks for that.
Overall Leopard is a fine beast. Basically all I would like is
a/ scrolling and not only play in window columns
b/ fix quickview so it plays all the files it should and
c/ also doesn't crash
If anyone else feels this way please let Apple know at OSX Feedback

Quicktime file info missing in Finder column view???
In the Finder column view my PowerMac G4 running OS X 10.3.9 shows all QuickTime audio and video file info along with the playable thumbnail video or music bar, including duration/running time and (for movies) dimension/aspect ratio in pixels.
However, on my much newer iBook G4 from 2 years ago running OS X 10.4.10, those two helpful stats are missing. From what I've been told this helpful file date and aspect ratio data is indeed possible with 10.4 Tiger as it is in Panther but I can't see how to show them via either View preferences, QuickTime prefs, Apple's document files or even these message boards. If anyone could please help me I'd really appreciate it, thanks!!!Oh, sorry.
No, I am running Quicktime 7.2 on both computers. I always install the latest updates when Software Update informs me of one and Quicktime doesn't use different versions for Panther & Tiger as far as I know.
This has been this way for a long time and the only difference at any time in the past has been 10.3.x vs 10.4.x. I sort of accepted it was something not available in Tiger's Finder column view (since I don't remember doing anything specific in Panther to show that extra info) but then after someone pointed out to me that that should be something one can adjust (and after using common sense) I realized Tiger wouldn't disable or take away info provided in the earlier versions, in a sense downgrading something users may rely on.
I don't think I asked: are you (or anyone reading this) showing the duration and dimensions of Quicktime audio and movie files in Finder column view under Tiger? ...or under Panther? Again, I'm referring to those that can be played directly in the preview in column view. Thanks. -

[SOLVED]Cannot right click in openbox
Quite simple actually, I cannot right click anywhere. Most everything else seems to work though.
(P.S.: Arch newbie here)
Some info: 64-bit Gateway M6720
I just used xev and found out that the key isn't even being picked up. I tried the same thing on an Ubuntu live CD. Looks like I've got a broken right-clicker...
Last edited by Toadsworth (2010-03-01 01:11:49)I guess you are running openbox-standalone and your X closes when you do
$ killall openbox
or some loginmanager. My mistake for not notifying earlier.
but there is the way around.
The trick is not letting exec to land on openbox-session.
for that you can for the moment move your .xinitrc
$ mv .xinitrc .xinitrc.bak
then you can fireup you xinit which leaves you with xterm.
then run openbox-session or openbox, blender or alternative windows manager like fluxbox or something to just get work started.
My method are not really applicable you can see.. -

cannot right click on wireless mouse after mavericks upgrade. please help!
Hey eedge520,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are unable to right-click with your mouse after updating. Let’s check your mouse preferences, as you can enable this behavior in System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click > Secondary Click

How to stop finder auto slide when click subfolder in columns view
Hi
when i use finder in the columns view and click something in the next level at right, the finder will slide right and relocate with the subfolder. how can i stop it.You can't. It has to slide over to display the contents of the selected folder or the preview info.
As long as there is room in the window, nothing will shift.
You can always use List view if you don't want it to move. -
Cannot Right-Click and Copy in Win 8.1 Event Viewer
A minor thing, but a slight reduction in functionality that might just be a bug...
In all prior operating systems I've been able to drag across text in the Event Viewer then right-click and choose Copy from the context menu.
In Windows 8.1, right-clicking does nothing except flash the cursor several times quickly - as though something's failing in the event loop. Control-C still works to copy text.
It's not something I have installed that's causing this. I've reproduced the problem on a freshly installed system that's done nothing but display the Start Screen for the first time.

Configure The Windows 8 "To Work" OptionsUsing Windows 7 I just encountered this problem. It lasted for say 20 minutes and then reverted to normal. Did it revert to normal for you?
Thanks for your response, Gerry, and for bringing this back up.
Frankly, I'd gotten out of the habit of trying to copy data from the Event Viewer (plus, the error count has gone down a good bit after all the Windows Updates), but after having brought the Event Viewer back up now, near as I can tell the
problem is fixed in Windows 8.1.
Well, maybe not completely fixed. There's no right-click context menu for things in the pane in the General tab, but it doesn't flash and I can copy text from everywhere with Control-C.

In Snow Leopard I cannot arrange by name/alpha in the finder column view
I am using Snow Leopard MAC OS 10.6.8 and can no longer sort/arrange my folders and files in alpha order when I am in column view. I used to be able to do this by view>arrange by>name. But now it does not work.
Finally figured out how to arrange by name in column view. Interestingly "Sort by" does not show up in the view menu. Instead "Arrange by" shows up which doesn't arrange by name. The only way I have found to use the "Sort by" feature is to access the help feature to access "Sort by.".
