Cannot run Express 10g

Hi Everybody:
After I install the EX DB 10g, I tried to run some command in the console
sqlplus sys/welcome1@XE as sysdba
SQL> show parameter session
SQL> show parameter processes
SQL> alter system reset sessions scope=spfile sid='*';
SQL> alter system set processes=300 scope=spfile;
SQL> shutdown immediate
SQL> startup
SQL> show parameter session
SQL> show parameter processes
But I got some reply as PS2-0640: Not connected
I assume this is the inaccessibly to Database, but I can access the admin panel via the web-based interface.
This is wired, and affects my SOA suite installation.

Better to copy and paste your entire command line session so we can see exactly what you did and exactly how oracle responded.

  • Are there any problems running oracle database express 10g and iis together

    Are there any problems running oracle database express 10g on an windows 2000 server or advanced server running iis 5?
    Does oracle database express cause any conflicts with iis (because of used ports etc)
    Could an server have running on it, both an website using iis and an oracle database express website without conflicts?

    I would not expect a problem under normal circumstances.
    Oracle's listener is set for a default port 1521 for database requests, port 8080 for HTMLDB requests. The database connections generally find an empty port above 1024 when establishing a connection.
    So, if IIS does not want to use 1521 or 8080, you will generally see no challenges. Even then it is fairly easy to move ORacle's port requirements elsewhere.
    Using port 8080 seems reasonably common, but that is easily changed - search for sethttpport in this forum. IIS tromping on 1521 would be rare as it has been a well known Oracle service port since, roughly, forever.

  • Oracle Express 10g - cannot install on Windows 2003

    I'm trying to install Oracle Express 10g on Windows 2003. On this machine already works MS SQL2005 server.
    The installation starts ok but after copying files installer disappears whitout any message (in that moment an icon on desktop should be created, but it's not) All files copied first by installer are deleted upon it finishes it's work. From the same package I installed Express on Windows XP and then there was everything ok.
    I checked install log but it didn't tell me much. It looks more or less the same as the log file from succesful installation until bolded line:
    MSI (s) (30:A4) [15:02:44:281]: User policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    MSI (s) (30:A4) [15:02:44:281]: Machine policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    Action ended 15:02:44: InstallFinalize. Return value 2.
    On successful installation the return value is 1. But it doesn't tell me anything. Also in event logs I got only mssinstaller information (event 11708)
    Product: Oracle Database 10g Express Edition -- Installation operation failed.
    Do anyone experienced such problem?

  • Corrupt Data1.cab in Oracle Express 10g Universal  for Windows

    Hello Oracle Folks,
    I downloaded several times Oracle Express 10g Universal for Windows (OracleXEUniv.exe) and tried to install it and I get every time the same error message: "Error 1335. The required file "Data1.cab" is corrupt and cannot be used ...". When I download the Western European Edition (OracleXE.exe) the installation works! I downloaded the file on different local disks to exclude the risk that my disk is damaged.
    Can you please check if this download is sane!
    Thanks and best regards Thomas Mayr

    Amazing reply Hans.
    I have seen some arrogent smart mouth answers in my time. But this really takes the cake. Also judging from the icon you are some kind of employee of oracle. Wow! Now that shows respect for your users.
    Sorry to disappoint you - I am not an employee of Oracle. Much of your rant is irrelevant.
    I am simply a person who has volunteered enough time to provide over 8,000 repsonses in these forums and many more in other forums.
    Many, many, many of the questions are pure repetition due to the extreme laziness, incompetence or inability to do basic thinking by the questioners. There are also a lot of questions by 'newbies' who have obviously made an attempt to research the problem.
    My approach to answering questions is simple and two-fold:
    - make the person angry enough, or aware ennough, that they will think a bit when asking the next question;
    - if they ask a question intelligently (http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html) I usually am convinced to help.
    (And yes, I do take longer breaks when I find myself being frustrated enough to provide answers like the above.)
    The stupid installation program for your stupid database was supposed to check the version of the Operating System. Anyway how does the operating system version matter if a cab file is corrupted? which was incidently packed in that stupid download link which you have happily given to all customers all this time. I was hoping to find that since you guys are too lazy to make the installation file properly you might have atleast bothered to put up a download link for that stupid Data1.cab. But nooo... The 'stupid installation program' is indeed that - a stupid installation program. It does a certain amount of checking, but definitely not enough. In that I do agree with you. It was also released too early - basrely understands how to spell Vista.
    Also, there is an assumption by Oracle that the person downloading reads the documentation, especially the installation guide, that is available at the same location as the download. It is amazing and extremely disappointing to note how many people will not even attempt to look at the link.
    The real sad part for me is that I frequently download software (and did again in this case) to verify that the user has a legitimate complaint. The 'data1.cab' that I received was not corrupt. Therefore I conclude the original poster made some huge assumption that is likely invalid. Now, I did install into an XP machine, and that could make a difference.
    As for the 'you guys' statement - perhaps you should take that up with Oracle or an Oracle employee. Directing at me is an unsubstantiated assumption on your part. <g>
    >
    I wasted some time thinking I would check out the db for development, got the same error and after seeing your mealy mouthed response to that poor guy who was asking a valid question, I think I won't bother anymore. You see, there is this amazing thing called Linux and MySQL..
    Yup. You could easily go there. Shows yet another assumption. (In fact, my company is centered around Linux and Oracle. And I have made a conscious decision, based on 3 decades of experience, to toss MySQL and stick with Oracle. And now that Sun, which owns MySQL, seems to be on the auction block, the future of MySQL is definitely up in the air.)
    However, given how many assumptions you make and how valid they are, you may find it easier to stick with MySQL. Oracle Express edition potentially could save huge buckets of time and effort in the long run, but it does require reading, research and other skills to get up to speed.
    Now, as to your problem
    1) This is not the forum to discuss issues with installation. (If the problem is traced to the download source, then this is the right spot.)
    2) There is a dedicated forum for Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition (Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)
    3) You are absolutely correct that the installer should be smart enough to check the OS. It does not.
    4) Since it does not, and since there are differences, knowing which version AND edition of Windows (or which Linux distro and release) is critical to troubleshooting.

  • From 6i to 10g "How to run a 10g report from OEM scheduler"

    We recently converted all of our 6i form and reports to 10g. We had forms and reports running as batch processes.
    Now that we are using 10g it is understood that we cannot run the forms as we did in 6i using OEM scheduler, so they were converted to scripts.
    Our problem still remains, How do we run 10g reports as batch processes?
    Can we use OEM scheduler?
    Is there a better product to accomplish this task?
    ...

    Hello,
    How do you execute your Reports ?
    Do you execute it from the Builder ?
    If you execute it from the Builder, do you use Run Web Layout or Run Paper Layout ?
    (If you have upgraded a Reports From 6i, there is no web layout , so you have to use the Run paper Layout
    The web layout is something new that appeared in Reports 9.0.2)

  • Oracle Express 10g with driver 10.2.0.1 - need to update to 10.2.0.5

    Hi,
    I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question but its where I have seen some other discussions on drivers.
    I have Oracle Express 10g installed on my pc, and some work servers and am getting some errors about memory issues and came across this message and decided to try the solution here too - Re: Attempted to read or write protected memory
    I have the 10.2.0.1 driver on the clients I am running and the app has 10.2.0.4 (I think) and so decided that updating the clients drivers might solve the problems as described in that thread.
    I have downloaded the instant client basic and odbc for windows x32 but am unsure what I need to do next as I have Oracle Express installed. I couldnt find one specifically for Express 10g.
    Do I have the correct drivers downloaded and how do I install them into odbc ?
    Many thanks, George.

    My understanding is that to be a MetaLink subscriber you have to be an Oracle customer or subscribe for Oracle support services. Since Oracle is only one of the many databases we support, and because our sole objective with Oracle is compatibility testing, it's unlikely that we will become subscribers unless it's essentially free.
    Oracle is tangential (not core) to our own offerings, so we don't have a pressing need for support. Is there some avenue for people in our shoes?

  • DBMS_JOB.RUN: cannot run a job from a job

    I'm trying to set up a job to automatically run every October 1st. The "submit" part of this job is pretty simple, but I am getting some errors on the "run" part:
    declare
    job_nbr binary_integer;
    BEGIN
    dbms_job.submit(job => job_nbr,
              what => 'RESET_ORDER_NBR_SEQ;',
              next_date => to_date('10/1/2008', 'mm/dd/yyyy'),
              interval => 'add_months(sysdate,12)');
    dbms_job.run(job_nbr);
    COMMIT;
    END;
    When I run this script, I get the following error: "ORA-32317: cannot run a job from a job". I know this is due to the dbms_job.run because I don't get the error when I comment this line out. Also, even when I moved the dbms_job.run into its own script (and even hard-coded the job_nbr, so the dbms_job.run was the only line in the script), it still gave me the same error. This is working in SQL Developer when but not in Application Express. It seems to be something specific to the "run", since "submit" and "remove" work fine. Has anyone had any problems like this?

    MBETTIS,
    Rather than including dbms_job.run in your PL/SQL block, why don't you just schedule the job to run via next_date?
    Also, the interval will be computed after the job successfully executes. So if your job takes 5 minutes to run, the value of SYSDATE in your interval may "slide" after each execution. Consider using some form of TRUNC against the SYSDATE in your interval if you want to achieve a consistent execution time.

  • OPS$ Account on Oracle Express 10g on Linux

    I have the exact same setup for an identical OPS$ account on an Oracle Standard Edition 10g database (running on Linux) and it works perfectly when logging in as
    sqlplus /
    However, the same setup does not work for the same OPS$ account on Oracle Express 10g. I have seen previous postings about OPS$ accounts that worked with Linux but not Windows XP (with the solution posted) but I seem to be having a problem getting Linux to work. I am running Redhat Linux Enterprise Edition 4.0.
    Thanks for any help...

    To have OPS$ account on XE you need to put user you using in ORA_DBA user group.

    Hi,
    I have an Apex application running on 10g express

    I did an application export from within apex, then Import in 11g.

    How about all the tables?
    I read topics on forum but still I'm not sure
    Kindest regards,

    Hi,
    You need export application parsing schema from 10G XE and then import those to target DB.

    This might also help how deploy your application

    The kinda answer I like: download, copy, mesh, hack. Looks very nice, must work in most cases, but not this time for me. Behavior was exactly the same, running the nightly build.
    Just for the records:
    Safari prefs in my Windows live happy in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari
    These days I installed an Safari in a brand new 2003 and worked nice. Bug 4 x 1 Safari. Bug still winning.
    So, it must be some stuff, some little tricky service or software I install in my usual Windows.
    Anyway, thank you very much...
    If someone have some clue, I'll apreciate
