Cannot run OBIEE 11g

Hi everybody,
I have installed an 11g version of OBIEE in a Red Hat 5 machine. Initially it worked properly, which means that I was able to connect to the Analytics and work with OBIEE as expected. However, some weeks later I started to face problems while trying to make OBIEE running, and actually I haven't been able to rerun it since then.
The source of my problem may be an RPD I uploaded to the Enterprise Manager which seems to be wrong. Since then, I think I was forced to restart OBIEE due to a poor performance of the tool, and wasn't able to make it running anymore. Anyway and whatever the source of the problem is, when I try to run opmn, this is what I get:

Thus, I can connect to WebLogic Console and Enterprise Manager without problem, I can even see the login page of the Analytics, but cannot get through it (due to the coreapplication_obis1 issue, I guess).
I have found some advices along the web, but none of them worked for me. So I would be very grateful if somebody could help me to solve the issue, as right now I just cannot work with OBIEE.

Seems to be an rpd version issue indeed. The old one's version was 318/325, while the new rpd's version is 325. So now the question would be: what must I do to be able to work with my new rpd?
On the other hand, I had problems to upload the rpd from the Enterprise Manager, since I couldn't find them on the folder browser - just like if they were hidden. I find them while searching with the BI Admin Tool, but I'm unable to do the same with the Enterprise Manager. Eventually I downloaded my rpds from Red Hat machine to a Windows folder, and it worked. Is this a normal behaviour?

we had run the scripts using nohup "nohup ./startWeblogicServer.sh &" and reopened putty to run other nodemanager and opmnctl scripts, now everything has started and working fine.

Running OBIEE 11g services for Linux

Hi everybody,
I would like to know the way to start OBIEE 11g services in a Linux (Red Hat) machine.
As far as I have seen in the web, there are four main steps to perform in order to make OBIEE running:
Run WebLogic.
Run NodeManager.
Run ManagedServer.
Run OBI Components (using OPMN).
The problem I have is that in our installation there is no ManagedServer (bi_server1). Therefore I deduce that OBIEE was installed as simple version (actually I don’t know where I can see whether it is simple or enterprise version). So the question in my case is: how to run OBIEE services without ManagedServer? Otherwise, is there any way to upgrade from simple to enterprise version, or I should just uninstall and then install the enterprise version?

Anyway, I'm still not able to make OBIEE available. If I execute the commands you provided me, I see some errors in corresponding created files. However, running them without nohup option and without any other parameter (just the .sh file), WebLogic appears available and OBI components seem to be running as well:

Starting OBIEE 11g on Linux 64 bit

Hi,
I installed OBIEE 11g on Linux 64 bit and it worked fine after installation. I rebooted the system and I need to start it again.
I am trying to run
run-sa.sh
run-saw.sh
etc.
but it looks like the scripts are broken:
./run-saw.sh: line 43: syntax error near unexpected token `('
./run-saw.sh: line 43: `ANA_INSTALL_DIR=$N($P(installLocation))'
it looks like these scripts were not processed by the installer during installation, $N($P(installLocation)) should have been replaced by the installer with actual paths I assume.
is there another way to start OBIEE?

Are you sure you are running OBIEE 11g? YOu are meant to use those scripts any more in 11g. See this post:

Starting OBIEE 11g

Hi,
I have installed OBIEE 11g. then i tried to login by following.
-> start BI services
-> entered the weblogic user name and password
-> then iam getting as wls.alive and keep blinking
It's not leading to login page.
Is there any error caused this? do we want to look in to enterprise manager?
how to come over this?

OBIEE 11g Agent

Hello Forum, hopefully I am asking this question in the correct forum. We are running OBIEE 11g on a UNIX server. One of our Developers manually ran an Agent through the OBIEE Analytics front-end. Then, shortly later, he asked if I could stop the Agent. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and, if so, how to do so?

OBIEE 11g cannot run marketing segmentation

I found that OBIEE 11g has bugs when running marketing segmentation. I have configured the segmentation as it was in 10g but still got error when I tried to create a segment. Can anyone knows how to make it work? Does anybody successfully run marketing segmentation in OBIEE 11g? Please help!

Cannot get into 'Dashboard Properties' (OBIEE 11g) using IE 8

When I enter an OBIEE 11g dashboard (as an Administrator) and click on "*Edit Dashboard*" & then click on "*Dashboard Properties*":
1) the "*Dashboard Properties*" box pops up but...
2) only the upper porting of the "*Dashboard Properties*" box displays
3) the lower portion of the box never displays...it just stays all white. This portion is where the grid that would normally display the list of dashboard pages (where I could choose to hide pages)
4) at the bottom left-had part of my browser, it says "*(11 items remaining)*"
5) my browser stays locked like this & the only way to get out of it is to ctrl+alt+del
Several things to note:
1) I'm not sure when this started happening, but I noticed it sometime last week. I know in the past I was able to get into the dashboard properties, but now I cannot.
2) I am on OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0
3) I am on Win7 32-bit
4) I am on version IE 8.0.7601.17514
5) I can run OBIEE in Firefox and edit the dashboard properties just fine. This issue does not seem to exist in Firefox
6) If I change to "*compatibility view*" in IE 8, I seem to be able to go into the "*Dashboard Propeties*" box just fine...HOWEVER, when I try to go into "*Edit Dashboard*" (while in "*compatibility view*") many of my objects (columns/sections) overlap & are weirdly placed all over the screen.
7) I have tried modifying the httpd.conf file as per the official Oracle white paper relating to OBIEE 11g in IE8 (Doc ID 1312299.1) and it didn't seem to fix my issue
8) I have also tried uninstalling & re-installing IE8 but that also did not seem to fix my issue.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, any suggestions on what one might do to fix it?

Good suggestion. I have tried IE 8 and 9 and Firefox with the same results. An error is thrown in IE 8:
"Message: Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus."
I believe this is referring to the fact that it cannot move focus to the username text field as the field is not displayed.
Another note, our steps for upgrade were as follows so not sure if this is part of the problem:
1. Install 11.1.1.3 OBIEE
2. Upgrade to 11.1.1.5 OBIEE
3. Run ua.bat for publisher schema and repository
4. Now, do not see username/pw at login and thus cannot login

Error when trying to run the rcu.bat file as part of OBIEE 11g installation

when trying to run the rcu.bat file as part of OBIEE 11g installation on windows 7 64 bit I am getting the following error
"windows cannot find C:\Users\manoj\Desktop\Oracle.Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".
Please help me how to overcome this error, I am not able to understand why it is looking for C:\Users\manoj\Desktop\Oracle.

after setting the ORACLE_HOME and Path environment variables also....I am still getting the same error...so is it like RCU can be run only on windows 7 32-bit machines and it does not work on 64-bit machines? and also it seems like the previous versions of OBIEE 10.1.3.X does not support windows 7 64-bit machines...
please help me finding a solution to this error....
and what are all the versions of OBIEE can be installed on windows 7 64-bit machines?
can't we install OBIEE 11g on windows 7 64-bit machines without including RCU?

Cannot Print/Export to PDF in OBIEE 11G

Hello,
Since upgrading to OBIEE 11g (currently on 11.1.1.6) I have random occasions where I am unable to print a whole page or even export a single report to PDF. We experienced this when on 11.1.1.5 but all I get is an "Internet Explorer cannot dispaly this page" It is not related directly to IE as I am able to reproduce the error with Firefox as well.
Has anyone else seen and overcome this issue? I have been unsuccessful finding any information on this in Oracle's support KB. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It has been a while since I have checked this. Sorry for any delay. We have attempted to rearrange items however have had no luck.
On small break through we have is that we have a custom link setup using Microsoft IIS on our server so we can access the application from outside of our network rather than just internally. We have found that we only have the print/export issues when using this external link so there may be an issue with our IIS configuration. Just throwing that one out there in case anyone has had a similiar issue with IIS configuration and found a fix.

you Can exclude columns in either Table view or pivot table view by placing those columns in Excluded section but you will notice that it will appear in bi server parsed sql query.

Giving access to users to run BI Publisher reports in Obiee 11G

Hello Experts,
I am trying to give permission to couple of user groups to run the BI publisher reports i have created in Obiee 11g analytics. when they try to run them they error out contact administrator and i have admin rights and i can run the reports. I dont see anything regarding BI publisher in Manage privileges page to grant permission to the groups. Where should i enable or grant the permission to these groups so that they can run those reports. Any advise is greatly appreciable.

The above considered, my guess is that I need to add the correct username and pasword to a file somewhere (possibly boot.properties?)
Would anybody be able to provide instructions on how to do this? i.e. I'm not sure on the format of info to be entered and which uname/password weblogic might need.
Having looked in the Middleware Home, it looks as though weblogic is wlserver_10.3
Any advice appreciated.

I am not sure on windows but on Linux, I run the below command first time and it then stores the password in boot.properties.
startWebLogic.sh -Dweblogic.management.username=weblogic -Dweblogic.management.password=<PASSWORD> -Dweblogic.system.StoreBootIdentity=true &
If I memory is correct, the boot.properties are under the domain.... ~/AdminServer/security/ folder.

Error running OBIEE dashboard 11g

I am using OBIEE 11g with Oracle database 11. I created a query based on a repository. Then, when creating a dashboard based on the query and have performed the same, I get the following message "getElementsByTagName (...). 0. " Ja tried on several web site and got no response. Someone could tell me the what happens?
I remember that the Dashboard does not contain any Java programming, just drag the query to run and sent a column.

Unable to Open RPD in online mode by using the Admin tool in OBIEE 11g.

I Installed OBIEE 11g (11.1.1.5) in Linux Box.
When I am trying to Open the RPD in online mode by using the Admin tool, I am facing the below error.
Logon failed due to:[nqsError:43113] Message returned from obis
[nQSError:13037] Cannot connect to BI Security Service,please make sure this is running properly (with SSL ot not) in EM.
[nQSError:37001] Couldnot connect to the Oracle BI Server Instance.
All my services are up and the status are Alive,My biserver is in Running Mode and I am able to open the Answers page too.
I am able to open the same RPD in Offline mode but not in Online mode.
I Created a System DSN in ODBC Data Source Administrator for opening the RPD by using the OracleBIServer1 driver,still the issue doesnt resolve.
Any help is highly appreciated.

This question is answered.
The Resolution is
While Installing the RCU i created two instances so the RPD is not able to take the correct instance.After deleting the other instance now i am able to open the RPD in online mode as it is pointing to only one instance.
