  • Quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hello,
I am getting this message and it is driving me bonkers!
"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Am running XP. Have uninstalled all Apple programs (QT, iTunes, update, bonjour, etc and in the order Apple recommends.) I re-installed QuickTime again.
    Same Problem.
Went to the control panel and launched the quicktime control panel.
QuickTime Preferences comes up. If i choose the "files type" tab this error comes up in a window:
    RUNDLL
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Clicking on this just closes the window.
Some one on another post mentioned something about another codex takinhg the place of an original. How do I find if this is causing it if only to shut down that avenue of conceren?
This has taken up SOOO much time I can't tell you and I can't use my iPhone or iTouch until I get it sorted.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Good work, craigeed. That's enough information (of precisely the right type) to suggest that you don't have a codec pack issue. If you had a codec pack problem, usually you'd get a rundll error if you just tried to open the control panel (and you're getting further in than that). Also, the rundll error for a codec pack problem would indicate that your QuickTime.cpl is lurking in the wrong place (down in the \system32\ directory). Your message is showing that your QuickTime.cpl is in precisely the correct location.
So we'd better start checking on some other possibilities.
The "QuickTime has encountered an error" message is pretty generic, but on at least some versions of QuickTime 7.x it has suggested malware problems. So we'd better try getting that off the table.
Download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and antispyware scans. If your security software providers offer them, try backing that up with an online virus scan. (That can sometimes pick up an infection even if the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
Do the scans show up any problems? If so, does fixing them help with the QuickTime error?

This problem is same as reported here and hasn't been solved:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1370493&tstart=1397
I have seen this problem appearing on Windows 2000, XP SP2 and XP SP3 with all QuickTime 7 versions (can't tell about iTunes since I don't use it), it didn't bother me because I have no use for QT/MOV myself.
    but.
I have just installed your latest QT Player 7.60.92 and it craps out with the same error whenever I want to open .mov files.
And I have downloaded few trailers ranging from small resolution up to highest "HD" resolution from your own Apple website to make sure it is not some encoding compatibility issue.
I know it is a bug in QT Player itself, so don't tell me please that "my QT got fragmented" or such BS (like the replies suggested in the other thread) or ask about any QT alternative corrupting "official" QT Player since I have no such thing. I am trying to make it work on my mother's computer with freshly installed WinXP (prior updated up to latest patches), machine has standard 32bit intel single core CPU (2.8GHz, 2GB of RDRAM).
I am really sorry I bought her camera that take those stupid .mov QT videos.
    Apple folks, what's the catch?
With every crash it creates in user temp directory files like:

Yes, same as in the other thread from year ago, the QT/.mov files play fine in the browsers (I have just check on IE7, Firefox, K-Meleon).
    Message was edited by: -888-

Look, I had it running _few times_ too until it crapped out and gives the error since (on my own other computers - which I don't care since I have no use for any QT/.mov myself, but I repeat from post 1: I need it working on my Mother's comp).
And talking about 'bad drivers' - yes, I know that the drivers are sometimes at fault and bad drivers can make entire windoze pc unstable or crash; but how can you suggest this as a cause in this case when I'm telling you that the same error appears on completely different machines? And wouldn't this error appear from begining, from very first use of QT Player if it were bad drivers? Sure it would if it was faulty driver, but since it didn't that's not the case obviously.
Another pointer that it is NOT drivers related problem is that all other audio-video programs work fine, without errors and problem-free on the same machines, including playback of some of the .mov files with Media Player Classic or VLC - while they crap out with QT Player. If it was any of the drivers for audio or video, directx acceleration, etc - the faulty driver(s) should and would affect other programs as well. Yet all of them work fine and as I said - some even play QT files too (the ones capable of).
    /edit:
Just to test it I "caved in" and I have installed entire iTunes 8.0 garbage (as suggested by foobula earlier) since I couldn't get just QTPlayer part of it to install separately, and what do you know:
LO & BEHOLD! same .mov files play fine with QT7, no errors, no problem! (I have opened/closed same .mov files many times).
Then I uninstalled iTunes and all of its junk,
removed any traces of it (because it left out - in a Microsft style - plenty of garbage in registry, user appdata folder etc),
    rebooted,
installed the "standalone" QT Player 7.60
and hello Apple my darling! - same error is back after just 2 playbacks of very same .mov files!
(I used Apple's own .mov trailers for testing just to make sure I have "right" quicktime files:
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_1080p.mov
    and
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_480p.mov
    - and I repeat: both played once each fine (haven't play till the end though, but I'm sure that doesn't matter since the problem appears from the start)
What better proof you need that the problem is only with QT Player in a "standalone edition" (or whatever Apple calls it) and not with any drivers etc?
As previously, both play fine when links opened in a browsers (so the QuickTime whatever-components responsible for audio and video rendering WORK FINE and its not any "bad drivers" problems, it is just QT Player application's problem)
Again: (I hate to repeat myself)
*I don't want any itunes or other junk,*
*I just want .mov files to open with quicktime player - no more or less.*

  • Quicktime player has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Hi, I'm having real problems running QT on my pc. I've tried several combinations eg- 7.02 with Itunes, 7.02 without itunes plus also the last 6.? version.
Each time, the programme is fine until it reboots. Then it is unable to open either programme- bringing up 'Quicktime player has encountered a problem and needs to close' screen.
I'm guessing its quite a common problem but I don't have enough time to trail through all the posts.
Please can someone offer me some advice, Its driving me crazy!
    Thanks

Can someone please help me with this??
I can't reinstall quicktime or uninstall

  • Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close

Seems that with the last 3 or 4 Flash Player updates, once the update is complete but before the installer actually exits, I get an error message box telling me that "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.", etc., etc., etc.  I've received this error message numerous times as most of the computers I work on are Windows XP SP3 (all updates) with Internet Explorer 8 as the browser, including my own computer and my wife's.  If I could copy & paste the details, I would.  But the temp file that's supposed to be created for error reporting purposes, isn't, and I'm not going to spend the next half an hour transcribing all the technical details.  I just want you to be aware there's a problem with your installer.       -kd5150-

I'm sorry you are running into this crash.  To help investigate the problem, we'll need you to do a few things for us.
First, add the following line to the file mms.cfg (open in Notepad)
    SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1
You can find the mms.cfg file here:
    xp, vista, and windows 7 32bit: c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
    windows 7 64bit: c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
Next, we'll want to get a crash dump so we can see what's going wrong.  You can enable crash logging on Windows Vista or 7 using the following steps:
Download the following files: Enable Crash Logging.reg and Disable Crash Logging.reg.
Double-click the Enable Crash Logging.reg file. Click Yes in the Registry Editor dialog.
    Restart your computer.
    Let the updater/installer crash occur
After the crash, open a file browser window and type the following in the navigation bar:%localappdata%
    Go to the CrashDump folder.
Select the most recent file that appears with the extension .dmp.
Double-click the Disable Crash Logging.reg file downloaded in Step 1 and click OK.
    Restart your computer.
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
    For XP, follow these steps:
Show hidden files.  For more details, see the instructions for Windows XP.
Repeat the steps that resulted in the installer crash
After the crash, open the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
Locate the file named with the extension .dmp that corresponds with the correct date and time
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
In addition to the .dmp, please post or send me your Flash Installation.log.
Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows?

  • Adobe Flash Player Update Service 11.3 r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are

    I get following message:
Adobe® Flash® Player Update Service 11.3 r300 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    How can I solve this?

    People,
Listen. This service is, has been and seemingly will be: FREE. So while emotions are running on the hot side of the guage, let's remember; it is FREE. Adobe owes no one anything. Now who's to blame, really? We, the people are to blame. Why? Because everyone has been ok with the fact that one company essentially designed and released a technology for streaming from the net. One company. And almost all of us are using this one company's technology to stream; for FREE.
But now we are not ok with it when, after we are prompted to update, we have the issue of it not working? We all never saw the ridiculously high potential for this one company to screw things up, intentionally or otherwise? What the ramifications, that we are now experiencing, might be? Nah, we just took it for granted that we would continue to be served. Well the serve came, everyone. Mistake or otherwise.
It's like this country [US], up until four-years ago. Everyone was either running around with snow shovels and hefty garbage bags to gather all the money they were making or sailing the seas of expectation and an, 'I am out there to get mine' attitude, and then the sh*t hits the fan and now people are complaining? About the very system until four years ago was spoon feeding them poolside with mai-tai's? While it was crushing everyone else in the known world?
No doubt it seems incredulous that a multi-billion dollar company has an IT department that would include in an update, for their own software, that would be inconducive to working. No doubt. But keep in mind: we are all either using browsers by Apple or MS. Anything happens to these browsers, including a virus or anything else that threatens our use of them and...?
So climb off the haughty, 'I deserve' crap and walk on the solid ground of trying to resolve this issue here at Adobe and around the net. If we were to band together, as the 99%, we could solve this, no problem. But then that holds true with resolving this fictitious economic downturn nonsense, that we solidly take for truth at face value, because our mainstream media says so. But no other species on this rock flying through space would know what the f*ck we were talking about.

  • Cannot open itunes, "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I have tried numerous to times to download itunes update after having ipod display indicating not all songs have been transfered because of old version. I've tried disabling McAfee and getting windows updates, (I'm running XP)When I look in programs, ipod for updater it lists both 2004-08-06 and 2005-10-12. The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either and gives the same error mess. Will uninstalling and reinstalling itunes help? and if so, I loose my entire collection right?

    hi daytimer!
The error message reads" itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" Quicktime does not open either
hmmm. that strongly suggests that the itunes problem is due to a broken quicktime. let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.3 reinstall first.
download and save the QT installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off all antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
does the install go through okay? if so, does itunes launch properly after that?
    love, b

    Hello there, ytnoj.
Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes can be a tricky endeavor and must be done in a very specific way. The following Knowledge Base article provides the step-by-step of the process:

  • Crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close while running report

Ever since I installed HEAT 9, Crystal Reports 11 crashes periodically.  I get the message "crw32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."  This message usually appears after I run a report, enter my DB credentials, and enter parameters.
I also have Report Viewer installed as a part of another application called Wasp.  I can open reports using the report viewer but when I close them the entire Wasp program crashes every time.
Both of these problems only happen with HEAT 9 installed.  I do not have this problem with HEAT 8.4 installed.

I suggest you contact the makers of HEAT and ask them if they support your configuration. It may be they do not support multiple versions of CR installed. It may also be caused by the order you have installed the various programs. Try using the repair feature for each program in various orders to see if that resolves the problem.
    Thank you

I bought the Apple airport router I installed it with the provided disc and that same day my iTunes would not come up. For window users I get the box that reads iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience with a box that you click to Send Error Report. Here is the error……… AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.6.2.9 ModName: unknown

I figured that my music files somehow were corrupt and that shi_ happens. Well a week later I was having troubles with the Apple router so I returned it and uninstalled it from my program files C drive. Then I gave iTunes another shot and it opened. Weird, I know. Well my next router was a Net gear it worked fine but it lagged on COD4 while online with my PC, so I returned it. Then I bought a Belkin - N1 Vision Wireless-N Wireless Router and it did not come with an install disc just plug and play. That very same day my iTunes gave me that **** error again. This time I can’t try to uninstall it from my program files because it was plug and play. I already tried to do a system restore and I shut down my PC and start it back up without the router plugged in and still no luck. I also tried to repair iTunes and that didn’t work. I went to the Geek Squad and they tell me the two issues can’t be related (a router not allowing my iTunes to run). My computer is running on Windows XP Pro. I’m now playing my music through Windows Media Player. I’m in ****!!!! Can someone please help me!!!!! I also tried a few things on iTunes support and they didn’t work. I will be more than happy finically facilitate someone for helping me get my iTunes up and running like usual. Dallas @ [email protected] I’ll be checking this thread every day. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

,......"The enstaller encountered errors before the requested operations for Quicktime could not be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again."
Checking on things that can cause QuickTime launch errors and install/uninstall errors now.
Have you at any stage installed an ACE or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, any copies of the programs QT Alternative, QT Lite or Storm Codec, or any media converter programs that can convert files into QuickTime readable formats?
(I'm checking on these things because depending on the versions of the programs/codec-packs, these can install earlier versions of QuickTime componentry on a PC, which can interfere with the running/installing of a higher version of QuickTime.)

Hi turingtest2 (you pass, BTW):  Thanks for the speedy reply.  MobileMe doesn't appear in the list of programs which can be uninstalled.  I tried the link you suggest: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall but when I tried to "Run Now", I get the error message:  " Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred... etc.... Can you run Firefox long enough to display the Add-ons page? Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. (Remove also is available for some extensions, but not the ones that Firefox found in a registry scan or shared folder elsewhere on your system.)
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
If you cannot access the Add-ons page, try starting Firefox in Safe Mode, since that deactivates extensions and hopefully will stop that message from coming up long enough to get to the Add-ons page.
''If Firefox is not running:'' Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.
''If Firefox is running:'' You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Success?
