Cannot run Reader (acroread) in Linux

I've tried to install it twice, using the .bz2 file. It unTars fine. When running INSTALL it tells me /opt is the default install dir and asks me if I want to change. I change it because I do not recall ever seeing anything in the /opts dir, in 6 years of running multiple Linux distros. (It doesn't appear to matter though since the library acroread cannot find actually IS installed.)
This reality aside, I tried for the second time, to install it in /opt today, but did so as a non-root user, so it failed. When it failed I installed it in my path, underneath my home dir. When I run acroread it returns the same error (but the path on the left of the colon reflects a different path, obviously).
The error refers to what is says is a missing library, but it is not missing. The error does not say where it is looking, which makes debugging essentially impossible.

Works for me ;). I created a test app with a Button in a GridPanel and a StaticText field outside of the GridPanel. First I migrated the project from one Win2k machine to another and verified that the app woks and all components can be selected for modification in the Design view. Then I repeated the migration and verification on a machine running Suse Linux 9.3 with no problems. BTW, I'm using Creator 2 with all the latest Hotfix patched applied. Dunno if that matters, but it might.
Did I use a test that would have shown the problem in your environment? I'm sure you've long since worked around this problem, but I'm certainly willing to pursue it if you'd care to help me duplicate the issue. Feel free to reply offline if you want to zip up a test application and send it to me.

Cannot run reader in protected mode with MS Office 2010

I just set up 6 identical Dell Optiplex XE machines with Office Home and Business 2010 pre-loaded. Reader 10.1.1 will run in protected mode if it is installed before I go through the Office 2010 activation/installation procedure. On the 2 machines where Office was set up before installing Adobe reader, protected mode will not work. If protected mode is not enabled, I cannot go into preferences - general and turn the protected mode log to try to debug this problem. For now I an running those two machines with protected mode off. Has anyone else seen this?

You should always use official documentation for support details but I am pretty sure Windows 7 support was not available for the EAS client until 11.1.1.3.

I got this message "Java Applet is not loaded.(Java interpreter disbled)". I have installed j2re1.4.1_02 and jdk1.3.1_07 . Do i have to set any environmental viarable?

Has anyone had any luck getting ITunes to work properly on a Windows 7 PC lately? Up until today, I could not open my ITunes at all because it said the disk was locked. A very helpful person at Apple Care told me to go into properties and release the read only box. I did and it did not help. So I uninstalled ITunes and downloaded the newest version. Normally this message appears if you try to install an older version of iTunes. Occasionally it can be triggered by a damaged library database. This method should get things working again.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

ITunes Library File Cannot be Saved. The Disk Cannot be Read From . . .

I use a MacBook Pro with a healthy battery. My iTunes songs are on a USB drive. The Database and XML files are on my MacBook. Power went out in my house and the USB drive shut off. The MacBook stayed up and running. Power came back, powered on the USB drive, open iTunes, and bang: This sorry error: iTunes Library File Cannot be Saved. The Disk Cannot be Read From or Written to.
The disks are healthy, did an fsck and ran disk verify/repair. No problems. Restart iTunes, same error. Obviously a corrupted Databse file. This wouldn't be a big deal if only the XML info would be useful and actually restore critical info such as play count and dates which is essential for the Not-So-Smart Playlist dependencies to work.
This is the third time I've been burned with corrupted iTunes "Database" files. I use "Database" in quotes because a true Database wouldn't crap out like this. It would be recoverable. It would understand a simple SQL "Where" statement. It would have a maintenance script and some means for recoverable backup beyond the lame process of copying the XML file. Or it would at least read in the info the XML file.
I am becoming disillusioned with iTunes and I'm beginning to yearn for my old Linux box running GTKPod which never failed me....

OK, here's an update - After doing the restore as mentioned having everything seemingly work, I erroniously downloaded the iTunes 7.4 & 7.4.1 updates. Now, about 80% of library is non-responsive, ie: shows up in iTunes, but clicking to play does nothing at all. the other 20% of my library plays, but it's not the song it is supposed to be playing. For example, clicking on a song from say, ABBA prodes a wonderful Gorillaz track :-/ (The same Gorillaz track which will not play if I select it...)
I reiterate: WE NEED A MEANS TO BACKUP OUR LIBRARIES RELIABLY!!!!!!!!!!

Cannot run application HRSystem due to error deploying to DefaultServer.

Try removing this directory: /home/oracle/.jdeveloper/system11.1.1.0.31.52.05/ and restarting JDeveloper.

In that case you should probably check that no other packages are missing files with
pacman -Qkk 2>&1 | grep "No such file or directory"
Any packages that report that they're missing files, you should reinstall.

I found below errors on alert log and can't inserted, updated and deleted datas in database.

To me it looks like your undotbs on node3 is filled and not marking old undo as expired. Use this query to find out if it is labeling old undo as expired.

Another thing I noticed from your alertlog is it is only doing that on undotbs3, which I assumes is on node3.
1) try recreate undotbs on node3
2) take node3 out of service (stop nodeapps, ASM, instance and finally CRS on node3) and see if you can do DML on your database.

Printing issues using acroread on linux vs acroread on hpux

We have an installation on HPUX 11i of Oracle financial apps.
The application generates a PDF doc which has to be printed .
on HPUX we then use acroread to convert the PDF to postscript, and send it out the hp lp utility to a windows print server, then to a Lexmark T632 printer. This process essentially works correctly.
The same application has been ported to linux, and generates a virtually identical pdf file on linux. Using the same version of acroread on linux we generate postscript output and send through cups using the same process.
On the linux run, this results in the top line of the page being truncated and the offset of the page being wrong (it shifts left relative to the hpux case)
Since these are cheques this is a critical error. Using acroread with the shrink option on linux results in the MICR font on the cheque failing tests.
I've retrieved a ppd file from Lexmark for the t632, and the behaviour continues.
Further diagnosis included comparing the output postscript files from hpux and linux, and I noted that the postscript file generated on hpux refers to a pdfasc.prc where the postscript file generated on linux does not have this data in it.
Falling back to cups pdf2ps also results in truncating the top line (cheque number) and the left shift, both with and without the lexmark ppd.
Acrobat reader version is 5.10 and 5.11 on hpux.
Can anyone comment on where this pdfasc.prc data are coming from and how can I get it in the linux world?
*footnote* we have noted that the original document format tool may not be entirely correct as it appears we have no margin definitions in the template. This issue will be fixed but this is now a production system and this set of changes will take time.

Originally installed on the linux boxes was acrobat 7
This version resulted in some truly wild print results.
I am going to retry since the tests under acrobat 7 were conducted by
different staff.
My question stands. Where does the reference to pdfsasc.prc come from on hpux?
If I take the postscript output generated on the hpux box and push it through cups on the linux box I get expected results.

Cannot run 'exec dbms_xdb.setlistenerlocalaccess(false)' from within sqlplus.
Apparently it does not exist, because when i do
sql> describe dbms_xdb
it shows sethttpport... but not the setlistenerlocalaccess.

Do you get any error messages?
It works correctly for me:

Cannot run speedtest or speakeasy

I cannot run any of the speedtests (speedtest.net or speakeasy.net) from Firefox (newest version), IE or Google Chrome. I have update flash player and Java. The computer has been tested for infections and none are found. The Hosts file looks fine. Temp files have been removed. The speedtest.net works in IE10 in safe mode. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64 bit, 8 GB RAM, etc.

PREINST.SWM recovery file cannot be read

My L300D series laptop got a pretty bad virus last month. To be safter I would like to reinstall my Vista. I did not have a recovery partition and did not have a set of recovery CDS that I could find for the laptop. After browsing the forums I decided it was best that I ordered a set directly from toshiba. After a week it finally arrived this thursday.
I began installation as usual and it was doing fine for the first 5 mins and then it gave me the
"PREINST.SWM recovery file cannot be read" error. I tried it click retry almost half a dozen times but nothing happend. all i get is the
                     Cannot read from source file or disk. PREINST.SWM
                      Type SWM file
                     Size 624 MB
                     Date modified 3/1/2007 2:30 PM.
So i read further on the forums and I tried a few other options...
What I have tried:
1. Boot the Recovery disc or HDD image and select System Recovery Options.
2. Follow the prompts until you get to the menu and then select a command prompt.
3. Copy the \zzimages\zzimages directory for all recovery discs to a temp directory on the hard drive (c:\temp). 4. Change to the Bin directory on the first recovery disc and run "tosimagex /apply c:\temp\preinst.swm 1 c:\ /ref c:\temp\preinst*.swm" without the quotes.

but when i try and copy the file it gives me a cyclic redundacy error. My next attempt was to place the DVD toshiba shipped me on another computer and try and extract and burn the preinst.swm into another CD so i can copy it to the drive.. but that is the only file that wont copy of the cd.. and crashes my explorer in windows 7...
Now toshiba told me it was a hardware issue.. and my warrantly is over.. adn that i should ge the cd drive fixed.. to which i said.. the CD drive worked last week.. I installed adobe from it.. and the harddrive works just fine.. recent scan had no bad sectors and is more than capable of runnin Linux..from a partition..they had no answer and I havnt heard from them again although i was told they would contact me. I need the laptop ready in the next day or two as spring break is over.
Any suggestions???

I have a Satellite L300D also. I too have a corrupt file on my Vista 64-bit Home Premium restore DVD volume 1 of 2 and have nuked my restore partition. BUT my problem file is a different file than yours. Perhaps we can swap missing files and rebuild and reburn our DVD's? You can contact me directly via email using my username and then append @hotmail.com on the end. I would be happy to help you out and give you PREINST.SWM if you can give me PREINST2.SWM in return. We can do this via FTP, Dropbox or filesharing...whatever you wish. Paying Toshiba $45 for DVD's they should have included for free really bothers me...
