Cannot run Source games under Wine

Hello, I remember when I used ubuntu I had the ability to run Source games (although they looked... weird, I couldn't place my finger on it) under wine, however I have yet to get any source games to run. When I try to run them the text comes out all messed up, and the textures are screwed up beyond belief.
Apon trying to launch TF2 from Playonlinux, I get this:

I use FGLRX (the beta version with Xorg 1.9), Gnome, Compiz-Fusion (doesn't work under metacity ether), and Arch Linux AMD64.
I hope that's all the information I need.

i have not tried team fortress, in a few days when the month rolls over and i get my broadband speed back i can try installing it. I have only minor problems running left4dead and halflife2 under the latest wine. but i cannot get the games to run if i install playonlinux. maybe theres something special you got to do to get playonlinux to work but i prefer to not use it.

if your using 64 bit arch then shouldnt wine be using c:\Program Files(x86)\

Run Creative Centrale under wine

Hello guys,
I need to install Creative Centrale to manage with my Creative Zen X-Fi mp3 player, that cannot be anymore handled with other linux softwares.
When I install the software, under a 64 bit WINEPREFIX, it needs the Windows Media Format 11 runtime component that it is supposed to be downloaded automatically but seems that the ulr is now empty.
Then I tried to install that package manually but the Creative Centrale software still asks for it.
Any solution or workaround to solve my issue?

Please help!!! Cannot run Windows Update in Win 7 Pro after changing new hard-drive. (X201s)

Hi everyone,
I have been using my thinkpad x201s for more than one year by now. And recently I change a new and larger hard drive for my laptop. When I tried the thinkpad rescue and recovery disc on the new hard drive, everything works fine except that I cannot run Windows Updates after the installation was finished. The recovery DVDs were burned directly from the original image stored in the computer when the first I received my laptop last year.
Every time when I try to run the Windows Update, it shows the following: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running, you may need to restart your computer."
I restarted my computer later but nothing changed. Can't run Windows Updates and can't even install IE9.
I then moved back to my old hard drive and everything is normal, no problem with Windows Updates. I also tried to create a back-up image by running win 7 Backups and Restore. Later when I changed back to the new drive and followed the instructions to restore my system from the image I created earlier in a USB drive, it worked except that still the system can't run Windows Updates program.
I'm now getting very confused and upset, is it something to do with the software copyright? It's been a week now and I tried to Google the similar problem but no solutions work here. All I want to do is moving my current system to the new hard drive so that I can continue to use my laptop but it just failed updating every time.
Could anyone kindly tell me what to do when changing hard drive in order to avoid the problem I'm dealing with? Sorry I'm not a pro type user and just want my laptop to work appropriately.
My warranty has already expired so I guess the Lenovo Technical Hotline wouldn't answer my questions anymore. Please help!! Much appreciated.

I'm not sure this is the issue, but from your description, it seems as though all you have to do is activate the windows update service. If I were you, I'd search for "Services" in the start menu, open it and look for "Windows Update". Check in its properties that it is set to "Automatic (Delayed)", if it isn't, set it, and start the service, you should then be able to check for updates, be careful though that none of your other programs aren't stopping the service, usually these programs are there to "optimize your performance" or "boost your system",...

Cannot run Smart Print on Win.8.1

Have installed Smart Print latest version on PC running Windows 8.1. No button appears on the task bar and I cannot run it fro the application in HP folder under programs. Can anybody tell me how to get the thing to work?

I do not know anything about Briks Software, whether it is something having to do with HP SmartPrint -- it does not sound like the same thing at all -- I could be wrong, of course.

Running Oracle tools under WINE

Has anyone had any success running windows-only Oracle tools (Discoverer Admin, Designer, etc) under WINE?
I'll be trying this shortly but i'd be grateful if anyone could post any experiences to date.

I know of attempts to run JInitiator (a windows-executable, needed for running applets that
are used on some webpages of Oracle Apps) with Wine. It never succeeded; Wine development
was contacted but they had other priorities.

Cannot run java application in Win XP

I worte a java application(a Swing app), I test it and run under win NT, it works fine for me.
Then I recompile it in my WinXP using j2sdk1.4.1_02, run it in a command prompt, but it does NOT start up the application, I check the window task manager, a java.exe already startup and it eat up 100% CPU of my XP, but the application never been startup.
My Swing application is not a JApplet but a JFrame.
Does anyone have the similiar problem?

Try adjusting your path settings to stop using the MS VM (did you recently use win update?):
My Computer->Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
System Variables -> "Path"
If it currently starts with:
%SystemRoot%\system32;...
change it to:
.;%JAVA_HOME%\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;...
If you haven't set JAVA_HOME, create a new variable like:
JAVA_HOME = C:\j2sdk1.4.1_02
Note that using the ".;" before path makes the current dir's executables take prevalence over a same-named executable in a subsequent path.
Putting "%JAVA_HOME%\bin" before "%SystemRoot%\system32" makes certain that the current java.exe gets used (not Micro$oft's java.exe)

Firstly a question: Did you use the original game or maybe a copy?
I have found some infos that some users get this error because they used not original game CD!
But if it happens with the original and only with this single game so I presume there could be something wrong especially with the game compatibility.
Maybe the game doesnt support the graphic driver version or something different.
I dont know if you will find a exactly solution here in the forum because its especially a forum about common issue and problems with Toshiba units.
Try to visit the support sites of the game manufacture. Maybe there you will find more details and FAQs about this game.

Arch 64bit and 32bit games under wine

I am using an x86_64bit version of arch linux and have tried to use Civilization IV and Warcraft III with wine. But i have no usable Framerates. I have tried a lot of issues from Google Searches and from this forum but i cannot handle this problem. My first idea was, that my drivers are not installed correctly. But programs like glxinfo and glxgears says that there is hardware rendering enabled and compiz also works fine. After some researches today i think to have a new idea for my problem.
First i need to say, that i have an Thinkpad T400 with onborad graphics Intel HD4500 or so on. On Ubuntu with wine there were no problems in using Civ IV and Warcraft III, but under Arch Linux i cannot get it to work correctly. The Ubuntu was also an 64bit version.
Is it possible that wine need 32bit libaries for the graphics driver because of the 32bit games? I have only installed the normal pacman packages for my system, which only compile the drivers for 64bit. If this can fix fix the problem. How can I install 32bit and 64 bit drivers on one system?
I am relativly new to Arch Linux, so pls tell me the right commands if you need mor informations. And thank you for your issues.

This is almost definitely the problem. First, add the new [multilib] repo (see the news page for how to do this). Then run pacman -Syu lib32-intel-dri (assuming you are using the 64-bit intel-dri. otherwise you may have to build something from the AUR).

(Windows Server 2003) Cannot run SQLSERVERAGENT service under non admin user after SP1 Installation

Hi All,
I need a hand here, referring to this knowledge base on Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q283811) i applied this knowledge base, and it worked, the MSSQL and SQLSERVERAGENT have run under local non admin account.
But after i installed SP1, MSSQL service is ok, but SQLSERVERAGENT wont run. The warning message is : "Some service run and then stop if they have no work to do."
Is there any way i can install SP1 but in the same time run SQLSERVERAGENT under local non admin account?

Please go to the windows services list and check that the service is configured as start Automatic first
1. run -> services.msc -> look for a service named "SQL Server Agent" -> proporties
2. make sure the startup type is Automatic
3. start the service again.
4. If it stop then post for us the full error message from the sql log file
5. move to the "Log On" tab and check what Log on you are using (this will be used for next step if startup type Automatic did not help, therefore write this information).

Wine does not run any game anymore

Since wine package has replaced bin32-wine, I cannot run any game either as user or as root. I get a wine dialog saying "you're not authorized to run this game". I usually launch my games with playonlinux, but this also occurs in console:

I have nvidia, nvidia-utils and lib32-nvidia-utils installed. OpenGL works fine according to glxinfo and glxgears.

Long story I was using playonlinux and had space only on the / partition. playonlinux is not very flexible with the install path (~) and I was lazy. I also thought I would avoid permission problems.
Anyway, I have tried as a user too, I get the same error.

Possible Video Card problem while running 3d applications on wine

Hello guys, I got an issue with wine running 3d games/applications on the netbook and I thought this was the right place to post, since I'm pretty new to Arch, sorry if I messed something up with the sections.
Long story short: The applications/games I "tested" are Football Manager 2013 (via Steam) and Nintendo64 emulator. I didn't post on the wine forums since I'm pretty sure it's not a wine related problem, due to the fact that on my desktop both work without any problem with same wine and Arch configuration.
The netbook as an integrated Intel video, while the desktop has a nvidia card.
So I'm assuming there something wrong with the video card/drivers/configuration even if X runs good and seem configured correctly.
When I run those games with wine i get the following error and I get a black screen on wine:

and the thing is Football Manager doesn't need much graphics, since games can be played even in 2d.

PSE 7.0 Invalid Serial Number under Win 8.1

Moved from a Dell PC running Win XP SP3 to an HP with an 3.80 GHz AMD 6200 6 core processor, 10 Gb RAM running Win 8.1. Had installed PSE 7.0 four or five years ago on the Dell - it meets my limited needs and I don't really want to upgrade. I re-installed PSE 7.0 (from the Adobe download site) and registered the product on Adobe.com. However, the program refuses to accept the serial number, claiming it is "not valid." Tried Adobe chat and Manoj Kumar confirmed the serial number was valid. However, he then stated that PSE 7.0 is not supported on Win 8.1 and he is consequently unable to assist further. Since the program works fine other than for not accepting a valid serial number, I don't see that Win 8.1 is an issue. Any thoughts? Is it helpful to copy any applicable files from the old computer?

Having searched for similar issues with other PSE users, it is apparent Adobe does not intend to respond - none of the numerous questions on serial numbers have received a response. I found the answer to my question, but the solution will not help anyone who can't locate their original installation disks.
There is an apparent difference in the serial numbers that are issued on-line during product downloads and those that are printed on the box / disk sleeve. I managed to dig up the six year old install disk and initiated setup.The first pop up box requests a serial number and I entered my original number. The installation proceed without incident, other than requesting a file update which I obtained from Adobe downloads. The serial number which was rejected when downloading a copy of PSE 7.0 from Adobe works just fine in the identical disk based install.
And, a note in passing to "Manjo Kumar:" PSE 7.0 runs just fine under Win 8.1. Please stop using the excuse that Win 8.1 is not supported and give users the real answer: "If you download a copy, you need a downloaded serial number. If you originally installed from disk, you need to re-install from disk. A disk based serial number won't work on a download copy."
Short sighted attempt by Adobe to force users to purchase another copy of previously installed software.

Malfunction games under Windows on Mac

through the Steam platform I play games with an iMac 27" with the following configuration:
Processor: Intel Core i7
Processor speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 4
Memory: 8 GB Ram
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850
VRAM: 512MB
BootCamp: Windows XP (120 GB)
3.0 VMware Fusion with Windows XP
All drivers installed with the BootCamp disk.
When I use the games under Mac OS X these work very well but of course those that are compatible with this system are still few. So I'm forced to use BootCamp to use the games are only compatible with Windows. Using Boot Camp I have some problems, because under this system games as "Guns of Icarus", "Wings of Prey" and "Napoleon Total War" will not work. Precisely with these games for a moment you open the loading screen of the game programs and then this closes immediately.
Games Wings of Prey and Total War Napoleon I tried only the demo, because I wanted to make sure they worked before buying the full game while the game Guns of Icarus I tried the full version because I've already purchased.
The computer has a powerful hardware that supports these games I tried. I hope you can give me some suggestion to run these games under Boot Camp.

although I too installed Steam some days back in OSX (mostly to get the free Portal...) it is quite some years agi, since I last used Steam on a then owned PC.
My first action would be to look inside the Steam Forum if there are others with the same problems with the same games or in general with Steam on a BootCamp Windows.
Also, there might be some kind of log file inside the Steam folder on your harddisk where there might be some informations why the games/demos you tried crash.

SAP Netweaver Trial Version under Win 7

Dear Support - Team,
I have a new laptop installed with Win 7 Home Premium 32bit version.
Now i wanted install the trial version from DVD (it was an additional to the book " ABAP Objects in SAP Netweaver).
At first the installer tried to start and needed an addon from MicroSoft and wanted a Reboot of my system,
and then I had to start the setup.exe again.
This was 3 times again.
Now when i try again to install the version 7.0 from dvd, i get the error message:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:run
Exception in the read:"main"
Now i have tried it again and i get the error:
the installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the console or silent flag.
The graphical mode is 1366 to 768.
What i do wrong?
Do i need the version 7.01 or something else?
Or doesn't run the system under win 7?
I would be very pleased to you, when i get some answers or tipps to solve this problem and i can start my education in programming sap!!

Additional to the apply before:
Now i have installed the Java SE Development Kit 1.4.2_19.
But the error exist again.
A friend said, it could be a error in my graphical installation: i have to choice the agp slot for my graphic card.
but this seems to difficult.
In the system requirements doesn't stand something to this point.
At the moment i'm downloading the version 7.01 but it is a long way because i don't have a great bit rate in my dsl.
When you have another idea i would be very pleased.
