Cannot 'save as draft' in Mail 5.1

Hi, I've a problem with saving draft emails since I upgraded to Lion.
Example: My wife spent a couple hours replying to a long email from overseas relatives, most of the time spent exporting/resizing large .jpeg photos from iPhoto so the attachments did not mean a huge email.
She was interrupted but not too fussed because previously the emails would be saved as drafts if she closed a message before sending it.
But not this one.
My mail 5.1 help instructs to press the Save As Draft icon. There's no such icon on the toolbar nor is there one selectable from the Customise Toolbar option. File | Save As... is greyed out.
Mac is a mid-2010 iMac 27" quad core. Mail account is a MobileMe account that I am hanging on to until I upgrade my iPhone from a 3G (that cannot support iOS5 or Cloud).
Any help with settings or troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Hi Nick,
I could not find the Save as Draft icon neither, but I do know that if you press Cancel instead of Send, you'll get the Save Dialog. Not very intuitive.
If no one pops in to tell where this icon is, then you should file bug to Apple Feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Edit: couldn't find a direct link to Feedback Mail.

  • Cannot save attached files in Mail

My problem has to do with using the Mail program on a MacBook Pro running Mavericks. Lately when I receive an email with a file attachment (image, Word doc, PPT file, whatever) I cannot save the attached file.
I point to the attachment "download" dialog box, and choose either the "save all" option or the specific attachment filename shown, then navigate to the desired folder and hit "save".  But no file is created.
The attachments are there - if I look at the same email using the gmail web-based mail utility I can easily download it. It's a problem with the Apple Mail client.
    Any suggestions?  Thank you.
    Jerry

Zips and other archived/compressed files won't work as expected on an iPad since you can't just preview/view the contents directly from the attachment currently like you can with quicktime-compatible or other common media formats. Basically you would need to be able to save the zip file to the finder and extract it, and view the contents from there. But since the iPad doesn't have anything like a user-accessible Finder, it's tricky to implement.
There may be third-party apps that deal with this eventually (or maybe even something from the upcoming 4.0 software, who knows), but it would probably be easier to just have people send you attachments that aren't zipped up for now.

  • Save to drafts? Mail 6.0

There used to be a toolbar button to save to drafts but now that I upgraded to "Mountain Lion" (Ooooh!) it is gone. Not in the Toolbar customization either.
    Please advise thank you.

Oops ... I agree about the Message part of the menu ... sorry about that.
There are the "Move to" and "Copy to" options which do allow you to move/copy a message to the drafts folder.  I didn't realize, however, those would be grayed out while composing a message.
    Thanks.

  • HT1668 I cannot remove the draft write mail template from the mail application screen. Save draft works but cancel does not remove the draft template. I can send email using the template but it remains on screen preventing me from accessing any mail

Still can't get rid of the template page

I am not at all sure about what you are calling a draft email template. I have never seen one in the mail app and unless this is something that you created in Pages or some other word processing program I don't know what template you are describing.
Anyway, this may work. Quit the mail app and them go back and see if the draft is still on the screen.
Quit the app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
    Or try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons

  • Cannot save FROM names in Mail to Address Book

I'm trying to add Address Book entries by opening a mail item, putting my mouse cursor over the FROM address and selecting "Add to Address Book" from the pop-up menu.
This seems to work since I do not see an error message yet when I look into my address book that name does not appear.
If I attempt the same operation, on the same FROM address, I see an option in the menu to Open In Address Book instead of the Add. If I select this option it opens the last address that was highlighted in the address book, which is not the one that I wanted to add.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you, Herb

    works here.
quit mail and address book and delete the file homedirectory/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then start Address Book and Mail and see if using "open in address book" works now.

  • My Ipad cannot save anyphoto that doing capture, save photo include e-mail and save photo in safari except only by itunes.. how can i save some photo :(

    in safari..
    I do save some photo
then I see masage photo is saving my album
    but.. nothing in my album.
how can i save some photo..

You are checking the Camera Roll or Saved Photos album in the Photos app ? If so then you could try a reset to see if that fixes it : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • IPhone Cannot Save E-mail Drafts

The current iPhone OS cannot save e-mail drafts. (The Draft folder displays, but an e-mail created using the iPhone cannot be saved as a draft.) E-mail drafts must be saved on a Mac, after which they can be accessed on an iPhone. This is problematic, not only limiting the iPhone user to the choices of either sending or deleting a current e-mail message, but also creating the need to create drafts ahead of time at home on a Mac in order to access them on the iPhone (which defeats the whole purpose of a draft; an unfinished e-mail message which could not be foreseen ahead of time, that needs to be finished later).
For example, the current iPhone OS will not let you enter multiple e-mail addresses for an e-mail message. A "not-very-good" work-around for this is to create a draft on a Mac in Mac Mail ahead of time with the desired group of multiple e-mail addresses entered in the 'To:' field. Then, when you want to send an e-mail message to a large group of people from your iPhone, you can access the draft e-mail to do it. But once the draft has been sent from the iPhone, it disappears from the Draft folder, and you have go home to create another one on the Mac computer before being able to access it from your iPhone again. Giving the iPhone the ability to save an e-mail message as a draft (not just view drafts), and have the draft sync with MobileMe to be viewed in Mac Mail and MobileMe Mail would eliminate this problem.

I have used an application called "Download All Files" from the Play Store (formerly Android Market) to allow me to download any kind of attachment in emails. Give that a try and see if it works for you.

  • Where is 'save as draft' icon in Mail?

Mail Help says to click the Save as Draft icon to save a message you're working on.  But I cannot find the icon anywhere.  I know that it saves automatically anyway, and that Apple-S saves as a draft.  But, if Help says to use the icon, I would think that means there is one.  I'm so used to that icon from previous Mail versions that I would prefer it to the Command-S or just hoping the autosave works.  Anyone know if this icon referred to in the new Mail's Help exists?

    Save and send draft messages
If you’re composing a message and want to finish it later, you can save it as a draft. Mail saves drafts automatically a few seconds after you start to compose a message. If you quit Mail while an unsent message is open, Mail saves it as a draft automatically.
HideSave a message as a draft
Click the Save As Draft icon in the toolbar or choose File > Save.
You can continue working on the message at any time. Just open the mailbox where you store drafts and double-click the message.

  • Mail imap problems: Mail created random folders and saves multiple drafts

Hi there, I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and set up Mail to imap my two primary email accounts (new to discussion forum and forums in general):
I have two imap accounts set up: Gmail and Network Solutions (my work webmail). Gmail is working fine.
    Network Solutions imap account:
    - Saves numerous copies of drafts of the same email as I type, and when I try to delete them (select them all, delete, or select all and move to trash), I get a message saying the Network Solutions server on port 143 has timed out. So I have a bunch of drafts that I can't clear.
Mail menu on lefthand side of Mail window looks like:
    Mailboxes
    Inbox icon with dropdown to
    Gmail Inbox icon
    Net Sol Inbox icon
    Drafts icon with dropdown to
    Gmail Drafts icon
Net Sol Drafts icon (this is where all those drafts keep saving and can't be deleted from)
    Sent icon with dropdown to
Gmail Sent icon (only about a dozen sent emails are shown here)
Net Sol Sent icon (only about ten sent emails are shown here)
    Trash icon with dropdown to
Gmail Trash icon (seems to be all my trash)
Net Sol Trash icon (seems to be all my trash)
    REMINDERS
    ON MY MAC
    RSS
    GMAIL drop down to
[Gmail] white folder icon that has the following sub folders:
All Mail (appears to have all mail from gmail in here)
    Drafts
Sent Mail (appears to have all sent mail here)
    Spam
    Starred
    Trash
    NET SOL (drop down triangle)
    Draft folder (empty folder)
locker folder (empty, no idea what this is, did not come from Net Sol)
Sent (does not refresh properly, always missing recent msgs)
    Sent Items (empty folder)
    Trash
The thing is, that in Network Solutions, prior to imapping with Mail, I had these folders:
    Inbox
    Deleted Messages
    Drafts
    Sent
    Trash
NOW, after setting up imap to Mail, new folders have appeared in Network Solutions:
    Folder Name
    INBOX
    Deleted Messages (Bolded)
    Draft
    Drafts
    INBOX
Sent Messages (Bolded) (all recent sent msgs are in here now)
Sent (Bolded) (all sent msgs from Nov 6 and earlier are in here)
    Sent Items
    Trash
If I want to reference an email I sent after Nov 6, I have to log onto my Network Solutions webmail and go to that Sent Messages folder, move them to the Sent folder, then log out and update my Mail, at which point, I can see them on Mail.
I have not made a single folder in Mail -- what's there is a result of me setting up the two imap accounts.
Network Solutions has no idea what that "locker" folder is, it is not a Network Solutions-generated folder, does not appear in my Network Solutions webmail folder list, and I did not make it.
Can anyone help me clean this up, explain these mysterious folders, why I can't delete Net Sol drafts, why I can't get my sent messages that are more recent than Nov 6 into Mail, even though I've been primarily using Mail to send and receive mail for both Gmail and Network Solutions?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
    -Sunny

Hi. I posted again, and no one has answered either, here is the other post, it's more detailed in scope:
I am having a very strange problem here which started about a week ago, maybe someone can point me in the right direction:
    1) I use both gmail and my domain's server email which load into Mail.app. I use gmail because I like their spam filter and I use their SMTP because where I am, my ISP SMTP server isn't very reliable. Gmail solves my outgoing mail problem, but doesn't support showing when mail has been answered and that is a useful feature.
    2) My procedure is to open up gmail in my browser, mark and delete the spam (IMAP Account), then close the browser and open mail.app
    3) I have a rule in mail.app which moves my gmail to my domain mail Inbox where I organized with folders and subfolders and use many signatures to send different email out to customers. Mail has been very good as you can do quite a lot with it compared to most other email clients for OSX. I do this for three domains, with several email addresses within each domain.
    4) In mail.app, I can choose which mailbox to use for sent mail, junk, etc. This way I am sending from my domain, the email response shows and is linked to that mail so I can look for old responses fast and organize things by department. Spotlight or search works fast and perfectly. It's a good solution which I have used for well over a year (whenever gmail released IMAP services), or was, until a week ago.
Problem 1) As of now, when I open the mail account, the domain subfolders which should be below my Inbox are no longer there. If I look lower to the account folder, sometimes the folders show up there, sometimes they do not show up at all, but they are online in my web-based mail with my hosting company. The mails are not lost, but mail.app is not connecting with the host correctly as they appear and disappear randomly.
Problem 2) Every time I open mail.app now, most of my email inbox folders have to download all of the mail and their attachments again, even though I have the boxes in preferences correctly checked. Once the inbox loads all of the mail, then the subfolders disappear. This is very consistent. As long as there is no mail showing in the inbox, then the subfolders are showing correctly. As soon as the inbox is loaded showing mails, then the subfolders either disappear or move.
Problem 3). The mailboxes that my hosting's webmail service creates (like deleted mail, mail to delete, trash, trash delete, whatever, it's a Windows server) keep showing up in Mail. They never did that before. Once I deleted them, I could see them online, but not in mail. All was as it should be. Now they keep coming back every time I reconnect and I often have to reset which mailbox is being used for junk, sent mail, drafts, etc.
Problem 4). This same problem happens on all three of my machines, two being PPC and one Intel, running 10.4.11 and 10.5.5 respectively. The problem started happening on all my machines at the same time. This is also connection from three different ISPs.
Solution? My hosting company says that they have changed nothing in their settings (IMAP uses Port 143 and I do get a time-out error sometimes but not often). They have tried it in Outlook and do not get the same results, they say it's working fine. I have tried to subscribe in Leopard (you can't do this is Tiger, only in Leopard, but Mail.app says I have no subscribed folders, which is not true). The Quota Limits shows the standard Mail.app mailboxes, the Subscription List shows nothing, and no way to change it).
I tried Thunderbird and it connects faster, downloads faster and the folders are OK, but I still get mail folders appearing randomly. Sometimes I get mail folders appearing that I have not ever created with names like "System Mail". Sometimes I get mail boxes which are stored On My Mac which appear on IMAP suddenly. (Also, Thunderbird has poor signature file support, so I would prefer to use Mail, it's a better program overall.)
I have tried rebuilding the mail accounts, have done this, realistically, 25 times. Yesterday I did a complete reinstall of 10.5.5 just because I am at the end of my rope. Now I am about ready to change hosting companies as I am still having the same trouble. I am in the process of archiving all of my mail into Gmail so I can switch hosts if that is the problem. But, I would like to know first if that is actually the problem, since overall I am pretty happy with my hosting company. They are in Arizona and speak my language and they are easy to talk with. However, they do not have a Mac there so they cannot test my situation from their facility.
It's a strange problem in that one, I have used the system fine for well over a year with perfect results. Two, it happens on three different Mac used in three different places (office, home, and another person's home), and three, I have not changed hosting companies, I have been using the same host for two years and they deny changing any settings on their end.
The hosting company has no answer for me, they are not Mac users, and say that it's perfect in Outlook, but it's not actually perfect in Outlook either as mailboxes still appear randomly and sent mail ends up in my inbox randomly even in Outlook. They just don't realize it as they are not watching my mail boxes except when I am on the phone with them.
I am not having trouble with my websites. I do not have this problem with Gmail, only with my domain webmail.
I have to use Windows because of a particular shopping cart system I use, but IMAP systems should be the same on Windows or anything else. Some how, some where, some one has changed some thing. Any idea what and how to solve the problem?
    Thanks,
    John

  • Where do Drafts save to in Lion Mail V.5

So on my Laptop I have Snow Leopard and I saved a draft in Mail v4.5. I go to my iMac Mail v5.0 with Lion and it doesn't a drafts area.
So where did my draft actually save to?
And what happens if I was using web mail on my own server to save a draft and then try to access it in my mail client on my iMac?
What was wrong with the single mail view header in Mail v4.5?
In the new header their isn't a button to my address book… Their isn't a "Save As Draft" no colors button. So 3 out of the nine buttons I usually have on my mail address aren't even availble on the new mail client? Why?
None of these user interfaces were well thought out in my mind and I'd really like my drafts folder back as it syncs with my own IMAP mail server… Along with the icons "Save As Draft" "Address" and "Colors" in the single mail message header.

Depending on what you want to wind up with, you'll need to use either 'duplicate' which will give you two copies - one png, one jpg - or export the png; you can change the format during that process. It's a new feature in lion,

Can't create any alias in iCloud mail, see message "Cannot save alias. This alias cannot be saved at this time". I tried different variations at different dates (I thought this is temporary issue) but this not helped me. Perhaps some of you have resolved this issue and can tell me how I can do it?

Do you see in account settings two email addresses - with "@me.com" and "@icloud.com"? Or only "@me.com"? In second case just wait - your account will be updated in some time. I've waiting from summer and my account was updated in one day as soon as I've start this discussion   When your account will be updated - you will see in preferences two addresses, with "@me.com" and with "@icloud.com".

  • How to do SAVE AS DRAFT using java mail api

    Hello,
I want to know how to do SAVE AS DRAFT using Java mail Api.
    thanks

    Hello,
I want to know how to do SAVE AS DRAFT using Java
    mail Api.
thanksI don't think you can. That sounds like a feature of a mail client app itself. The Java mail API is for when you're ready to actually send the thing. Saving drafts is storing them somewhere like you would any other data; nothing to do with the mail API.

  • Won't Save Drafts in Mail

I've seen various problems reported with the Draft mailbox...
My problem, very similar to other recent reports-- My drafts disappear (after closing and reopening Mail). My drafts have been faithfully saved for years, until recently ,until 10.5.4. I think it is 10.5.5 where the problem began for me. Manually saving also fails to save a draft in the Draft box.
Exception to this-- A very unsatisfactory work around is to -- Search one's name (official name in computer) and arrange the results by date-- There i find my currently lost messages, sorted by date.
Please fix Mail, and all the vital basics, instead of adding so much useless fluff, in each major upgrade

    Hello boa:
I recommend you send your suggestions to Apple via the OS X feedback facility. These forums are user to user and are not the best way to feed Apple suggestions.
I would, if I were you, rebuild the mailbox (draft) that is causing problems. Since I have never encountered the problem you posted, I have not had any troubleshooting experience in that area.

  • Cannot Save Mail Preferences in Mavericks

    Hi Friends,
I am using Apple Mail, Mavericks (10.9.1) and cannot save Mailbox Behaviors for my IMAP Gmail accounts. Even after I have "saved" them, they return to everything being stored on the server. This configuration runs counter to Google's recommended settings.
I am running OSX 10.9.1 and therefore have the Mail Update installed. Any fixes out there?
    Thanks,
    Falguni

Delete the account and re-add the gmail account inside Apple mail instead of from the system preferences.  Mail > Accounts.
There are a ton of gmail issues going on so you might be better off using the web interface or a 3rd party mail program until Apple and Google work out their issues (Google isn't following IMAP and Apple's attempt at patching it has made it worse for many).
If you are using any custom GMAIL setting on their server side that could also be causing issues in Apple Mail.  If you are using 2 step authentication make sure Apple Mail has a custom password issued for it.
    Best of luck
