Cannot save as TIFF LWZ

In the Photoshop CS6 Beta I don't TIFF options to save.  The only option I have in saving a TIFF is raw compression.  What's up?

Let me put on my mind reading cap:  you're on MacOS and you copied the plugins from an older version of Photoshop into the CS6 plugins folder, or you set the CS6 additional plugins preference to point to the plugins folder of an older version of Photoshop.
Go undo whichever of those you did to get rid of the duplicated plugins that don't work with CS6.
Then the save dialog should work fine again.

  • CS6 Mac - cannot Save As tiff file

    OS X 10.7.3
    CS 6 Beta
Open a raw file (CR2), not as smart object
    Edit
Save (psd format is the default)
Save As:  same name, but choose tiff format
Result:  Save As dialogue adds "mpo" as an extension, and the next dialogue is one for JPGs.
    1) loading a TIFF file and then trying to Save As a TIFF file with a different name has the same outcome.
    2) Saving works properly with my TIFF files.  Only Save As fails.

    Myron-
Just to clarify, you can't point your plugins to the plugins for an older version of CS5 and expect the program to work properly.  In CS6, the default plugins are in a different directory in an effort to make it easier for you to tell what plugins are 3rd party and that you have installed separately. When you point your additional plugins folder to the CS5 plugins, you are pointing to duplicates of many default plugins, which does not make the Mac os very happy. If you make a new folder and set it as your additional plugins folder, you can install your 3rd party plugins there and  you will not have the issue with duplicate files or the file save issue.
    Hope that helps-

  • Cannot save as TIFF from ACR

This is my first post on this forum.  Please forgive me if I have completly misunderstood something.
I am using PSE7 with ACR 5.6 on Windows 7 (soon to be updated to PSE 11).  I have only been using RAW files for a short while so I am far from familiar with ACR but I am fairly sure that when I first installed it the "Save Image" dialog box offered me several file formats, in a drop down box, to save the image as.  I remember tif, jpg, psd and dng at least.  Now I am only offered dng (in both all uppercase and all lowercase).  Am I remembering wrongly or have I changed something somewhere that is doing this?  I can find no way to save the image other than as a dng.  If it matters ACR is set to 8bits/channel and I am trying to convert NEF files opened by right clicking in the Organiser and selecting full edit where upon ACR opens.
I have tried re-downloading and replacing the Camera Raw.8bi file to no effect.  I suspect it is me doing something wrong rather than anything being "broken".
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Peter
Just realised that this is probably better in the Camera Raw forum wich I have just found so I'll re-post it there.  Sorry.

The Save button in ACR for PSE is just the DNG converter. To actually save in an image format you open the file in the editor and save there, as 99jon said. AFAICR, it's always been this way in PSE. The other options are in bridge and the other Creative Suite programs.

Just upgraded to Mavericks. Now I cannot access scans from my hp scanner. After it complete the scans and I try to save as tiff, jpeg or pdf I get a either a grey blur or a message that says cannot save because the file cannot be written to. I did not have any problems before the upgrade. I would greatly appreciate any light shed on this.

Go to the HP site and look for drivers for your scanner. It apparently needs an updated driver to work with Mavericks.

  • Should I save as TIFF or PSD?

Hello, I have been going 'round in circles trying to decide whether to set my Lightroom external editing pref's for Photoshop as PSD or TIFF. I've very recently downloaded Photoshop - I'll be using it after I've done what I can in Lightroom, just for photo's - I've never used 'layers'
    1) Can anyone advise which might be best - I read somewhere that PSD might be easier (or necessary) if I need to re-edit. I also read PSD could be a good idea as it would be easy to see which is the master edit, and which files have been saved as TIFF, for print say
    2) I also read that you should never flatten a file, at least not until you need to (ie: save as TIFF for print) - any thoughts?
    3) My thoughts (mixed up though they may be!) are to say edit layers etc in PS (either TIFF or PSD) then just press 'save', but not flatten layers (I understand the PSD or TIFF will then be alongside my original raw file back in Lightroom, as LR/PS automatically does this). Then say for print I would then  'save as' a TIFF (ie: for printing), or JPEG (ie: for web), and this would automatically flatten the file. If this is correct, say I started off with the un-flattened PSD for example, would I need to firstly make a copy of the PSD, or would just doing a 'save as' still keep the original PSD 'master file'? Also, after I say did a 'save as' for a TIFF, could I then just delete the TIFF and do another 'save as' if I wanted to do another print in the future, or better to just keep the TIFF in Lightroom alongside the raw, master PSD or TIFF / JPEG?
    4) I won't be doing huge amounts in Photoshop, so would it be worth looking into using 'smart images / smart filters' - I'm just thinking that if document is not being flattened anyway would it be worthwhile?
Sorry about all the questions, but the more I read the more confused I become - I'm the sort of person who likes to know what they are doing before they do it if that makes sense (probably not!!)
    Thanks, Roy

    Here's my thoughts...
    1. You are a bit confused and I wonder how you can determine a file is a PSD or a TIF by looking at it?  Not all print drivers can recognize PSD's, but can recognize TIF ( this means almost all output devices can interpret TIF's no problem ).  That said, PSD's can manage layers better than TIF's which add to file size each layer you include in the TIF.
    2. Never say never.  This all depends on the file's use.  Layered TIFs can add complexity in which a print driver can or cannot deal with.  As you work on an image, you may want to merge layers for whatever reason(s) and you always have the option to flatten whenever you feel like it.  However, It is also a good idea to dupe the file as you move along.  That means you always have a layered version to fall back on should you need to edit later on.  I also Place transparent PSDs in Illustrator files with no problems.  But, I save as EPS in Illustrator and when I do that, then the file is automatically flattened.  This is perhaps what the internet was talking about.
    3.  Yes, see number 2 above.  There's no such thing as automatic flattening of TIFFs.  Again, this all depends on the printer and whether or not it can print while retaining original layers.  Some do, some don't.  Most of the time, I edit in PSD with layers intact.  Then, when I prep the file for printing, I will save a copy as a flattened TIFF so the file streamlines through the RIP and Print process.
    4.  Makes no difference.  Use 'em if you've got 'em.
Try to get some good resource material at a library or college bookstore or barnes & noble.  Also, get Adobe's Print Publishing Guide.  This is a good reference guide.

  • LR saves unwanted tiff copy of image when "edit in" selects an external RIP - ImagePrint in this instance.

    Hi,
Latest LR 5.7 installed.  I am printing with ImagePrint RIP which is accessed via "edit it" drop down under "Photo" menu selection.  LR makes a tiff copy of the image every time I print appending -edit###  [### is a number] each time.  I have checked with ImagePrint support an they do not send anything back to LR, so LR must be doing some sort of an automatic save.
How can I stop this behavior that is clogging my archive?

If there is a setting to avoid saving the tiff back in Lightroom, I cannot find it documented anywhere.
I understand that the external "editor" needs to have a tiff file to edit or in this case print, but each time I open the original .NEF file or even a tiff file to edit in the external editor, and additional copy is made in lightroom with another '-edit989' or whatever the next sequential number is, is also saved in the catalog.  Thus you can have something like _A0009876-edit 734 - edit 735.tiff etc. accumulating.
There is no need to save these TIFFs. but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to avoid this issue.
Same also happens with SilverEFEX, IntensifyPro, etc.  I can't find anyone else that has noticed this behavior so I am stumped.  Any further ideas.

  • "Cannot save because disk is full" but disk is not full

I am working on a large 2gb tiff panorama.  I have saved it plenty of times before.  After doing some work today, I went to save it and I get an error "Cannot save file because disk is full".  The disk is very much not full.  There was 15gb of free space on the disk when I tried to save (now down to 6gb because each time I try and save it eats up 2gb that it does not release back when the error pops up), and my scratch disk has 60gb of free space as well.  What is going on here?
I don't want to exit out of the program as I've made quite a few changes to the file that I don't want to lose since I can't save.

Sorry, I misspoke earlier.  The drive I am trying to save to is actually a 1tb drive with 471gb of free space.  The drive with 15gb of free space is the C: that photoshop is installed on.
Also of note that I meant to mention in the original post, the save progress gets to 99% before the error is thrown.
Saving as a .PSB works, so I wonder what it is about the tif that is a problem here.  I would prefer to save the .tiff as this is actually a file I brought over from Lightroom (using the "Edit in Photoshop" option) so I'd prefer to see my changes automatically saved back over there, though I suppose worst case I can import the .PSB in Lightroom and copy the LR adjustments from the other file.

When I resize any image in Preview version 7.0 I get an error that says I cannot save it.  This happens with jpg, tiff, png, etc. and I have attempted to save to my desktop and other locations to no avail.  Is anyone else having this problem and how do I get around it?

  • Cannot save email attachments to folders in Finder

Ughhh, I'm getting a sinking feeling.... It's happening again.
Ever since I installed Mavericks back in June of 2014, I've had nothing but problems. In fact, the actual install (perhaps coincidentally, I'm told) caused my hard drive to fail in mid-install, even though it was only 2 years old. Apple Care cheerfully paid for the new hard drive and installed Mavericks for me, but ever since my previously fast, responsive computer has been incredibly sluggish, lots of beach balls, tons of problems with things like the one I'm experiencing again today -- can't save email attachments to folders in Finder (the computer behaves as if the save was successful, but when you go look in the Finder later, you discover it was never saved anywhere). Also, I can't create any new folders because it says the location is Read Only (I've tried various file locations -- same result).
Since June, after countless visits to the Genius Bar and all sorts of attempts to fix the accumulating problems, the Genius erased my User Library last December in a final attempt to get the computer to work right before my Apple Care ran out. It was one of many attempted fixes that would actually work pretty well for a few days, but then the problems would accumulate again.
Last week, Word kept crashing. I took it to the Genius Bar and the June 2014 hard drive failed a diagnostic test. Even though Apple Care had expired, Apple replaced the hard drive for free because they could see the long list of notes from all of the visits I had made to the Genius Bar. I restored everything and, although it seemed to be working okay at first, I was still getting a lot of beach balls. Sometimes it can take 30 seconds to open a Word document, even if the application is already open. (FYI, I don't keep a lot of applications running.) But at least it was working. Today, however, I'm seeing some of the old familiar problems creep in. I cannot save email attachments to a folder. I cannot create new folders. I've tried restarting the computer multiple times. All of this was working fine as recently as yesterday.
    1. Am I doing something that is causing this? This is my sixth Mac and I've never a serious problem with ANY of the others (including one that I bought USED) and I use them at least 8 hours a day. As far as I know, I'm doing everything the same way I've always done it.
    2. Has anyone else encountered this "Read Only" problem and do you know how to fix it? I'm starting to think this is just a bad computer and that this is a symptoms that something is very wrong again.
    3. Do I simply need to start over with a brand new computer (although, frankly, I'm scared to restore everything onto a new computer and risk "infecting" the new one). This is my work computer and I am self-employed, so I really cannot afford to be running to the Genius Bar once or twice a week any longer. Any advice? It's a MacBook Pro that I bought in December 2011. According to the stats, I'm using 354.68 GB of my 499.25 GB storage capacity.
Sorry this is so long. Just trying to give the context.

  • My Calendar on my iPhone won't allow me to save any events. It says "cannot save event" does anyone know how to fix this issue?

After updating my phone earlier this month to the 5.1 software my calendar won't let me save any events. It displays "Cannot save event" I have tried googling the error and I have tried restarting the app, restarting my phone and even cutting the calendar off and back on....nothing has worked. Any other suggestions???

Select the drive and Finder > Get info and at the bottom "ignore permissions on this volume"
You can copy the files, but the ownership on the files still belongs to the other user account, once your done copying, then perform a #6 Reset Users Permissions and that will set all the ownership to that account.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Another method is to copy the entire folder, then change it's permissions.

Your OS has reported a disk error - which usually means that there is a serious problem with the disk.
Photoshop is just passing along the error it got from the OS.
