Cannot save certain files due to program error

Certain JPG files refuse to allow me to save them.  I get a "could not complete your request due to a program error".
Searching for this got me results that assume the problem was all the time; things like re-setting prefs and such.  I tried that too, to be sure.
I have checked that I have write permissions on the files, CHMOD 666 on them, copied them to a different volume, all to no avail.
Photoshop is working fine on other files in this directory, AND these files can be opened and saved in Pixelmator without a problem.
Also, if I open the files and "save for the web" with the same name to the same directory, it creates new files instead of overwriting.
Th only thing that I find different about the files is in Terminal if I do an "ls -l":
-rw-r--r--@ 1 stevel  stevel   57980 Dec 30  2007 20050905 0100.jpg
-rw-r--r--@ 1 stevel  stevel  108070 Dec 30  2007 20050905 0101.jpg
-rw-r--r--@ 1 stevel  stevel   80609 Dec 30  2007 20050905 0102.jpg
They have those @ signs.
I can only save these files by copying the pixel data into a new file and re-saving.  This is going to be tedious as there is over 100.
Any ideas? I am an experienced Photoshop and Mac user and have not seen this set of circumstances before.
Thanks.

Using Adobe Photoshop CS2 version 9 and have updated it, but when stacking photos, it comes up with PSD, whereas I want Jpeg, and I change the format to Jpeg and the box then comes up with cannot save as there is a program error. Be very grateful for help with this, please.

    jpg does not support Layers.
Just to make sure, what exactly do you mean by "stacking photos" and what do you want to achieve thereby?

  • PSE 9 suddenly will not open pse files - due to "program error"

The program was working fine yesterday and now suddenly will not open pse files created yesterday or today. The error message reads "could not complete action due to program error." Am I going to need to deactivate and reinstall - and if so, how do I do that? Will I lose all brushes loaded into presets, all files currently unable to be opened if I do that?

I have the same or at least similar issue - When try
ing to open a Photoshop Elements 9 slideshow I get this message
"This application has requested the Runtime

  • CS6 Does not open file due to program error

I have been using CS6 for quite sometime with no much issues at all. All the sudden, today, without any changes being made in my computer (iMAC IOS 10.9) the software stopped opening files when I went FILE/OPEN and selecting the file to open (jpg).
CS6 opens "finder" and then quickly the finder window dissapears (so no time to make any selection,,this is not related to a type of file since...I can never get to even select one..) and the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error". The only option is to click OK and that is it....
I now need to go and open finder  and then navigate through to the file and the right click and choose Open with CS6 (anf the file opens)....
Any ideas about this? like I said..nothing has been done (except the lates PS update a couple of days ago ver. 13.0
    Thanks,
    Alex Viademonte

I tried reseting the Photoshop presets (which takes a lot of practice but
eventually got a "do you want to delete the Photoshop Presets" which I
did.... no changes with the behavior when trying to Open a location from
    photoshop...
then I read about turning off Coverflow  (but the only instructions I could
see were for Safari 4 ....and I'm running Safari 7".... anyway, is this
instruction supposed to be typed as one single instruction when accessing
    Terminal ?
    defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView
    -bool NO
everywhere I look it seems as two separate commands like this... but
I couldn't get Terminal to type in two different lines.... so I typed
    it altogether.
    defaults write com.apple.Safari
    DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView -bool NO -
at any rate,,, the problem is still there....
Once again, upgrading the software is NOT always a good idea.... clearly
the Apple guys ......got some issues here....

  • 'Could not complete your request due to program error '

    Hello.
I’ve had this error box [Could not complete your request because of a program error] pop up consistently with one photoshop document in particular today. Though this error has been a problem in the past, closing and opening the programme seemed to fix it. However today I’ve tried that and have uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop. I’ve also reset my preferences. Nothing has worked.
I’ve found that this error normally appears when the file has timeline keyframes in it. This leads to being unable to open the file, or if the file is open I am unable to export the video due to program error or am unable to save the file due to program error.
    I’m running Photoshop cc 2014.2.1 x64 on Mac OS X 10.10.1
Photoshop has all of the most recent updates installed.

  • I keep getting error message (cannot save as "file name" because of a program error)

I opened a pdf in photoshop and when I need to save it back as a pdf i get this error (cannot save as "file name" because of a program error). I need to save it specifically as PDF/X-1a:2001 but the only pdf options that will work are "highest quality print" and "smallest file size". None of the others work. I'm running Photoshop CS5 on a PC laptop and I tried it on my desktop and also a mac running CS 5.5 and always get the same error. I think the problem might be with the custom color settings I have but it works fine on my work computer with the same color settings. What could be going on?

Yes, it's probably related to your color settings in some way. Why you are doing it in the first place...? Since they are ISO standards there is simply no liberty in choosing arbitrary settings for PDF/X, especially the archicval flavors... So in conclusion you will have to make your color settings compliant. The crash itself is probably a bug in the PDF libraries and it may work at your office because there you may use a different version of Acrobat/ Adobe Reader and the associated PDF libraries which do not have this bug. Still, the initial issue remains: You need to work within the spec, not against it.

  • After migrating to a new MBP, when saving or opening documents, I sometimes (but not always) get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

I recently migrated from a MBP with OS 10.6 to a MCB with OS 10.8. Some glitches are popping up. Here's the one on my mind at the moment:
When saving or opening documents, I get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

  • Could not save "pdf" due to program error-CS6

Hi Everyone. I've gotten then message "Could not save due to program error". I used to get it randomly, and a few times in a row then I'd restart my machine and it'd usually fix it. Now it has been unable to save as a PDF all day today and last night.
    I am running a Mac on OS X 10.9.4, Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6 x64.
I have been reading through the forums and tried changing the language to the Asian, I've updated my photoshop, I've tried saving both to a network and to my desktop and none of it works.
I am not sure how to find the TextError file, but if someone will tell me how to find that, I'll gladly include that. I really need some help because my whole job product depends on getting PDFs to publishers!

No it I still have 6 of 8 gigs left on the flash drive I am saving to. I
even tried to save to my Documents file and received the same error
message. It was a little weird because it let me save 7-8 name tags prior
to giving me an error message. I did see a longer message when I tried to
save it to my Documents..it said that it was due to a program error, but
that was the extent of the message.
I have CS5 on my PC and switched to that program. I am not having any
difficulties using the CS5. I will try rebooting my laptop and see if that
    helps.
    Thank you.

    Hi Emily,
It seems to be windows profile related issue could you please try to delete the user preferences under the registries for which you are getting the issue for the particular users.
Note: The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys and Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
    1. Go to start programs->run->RegEdit.
    2. Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER< Software< BusinessObjects<Suite 11.5<Business Objects.
    3. Select the user preferences and delete the same.

    Hi Emily,
Following solution might help you to resolve the issue.
    1.You create your Deski report.
2.Save as the report (with or without 'Save for all users'- makes little difference at his stage).
3.Export the document to the repository.
4.Save as the report once again with the option 'Save for all users'(overwrite the copy that already exists on the local machine).
5.Log into Info view and delete the report.
6.Log back into Desktop Intelligence and try to open the report.

  • Cannot initialize Photoshop due to program error

My Mac OS is 10.9.4, I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014, at first it was working fine, now I get the "cannot initialize Photoshop due to program error". I've uninstalled, reinstalled, ran disk utilities from the recovery hd, ran onyx, ran fontnuke, reinstalled photoshop from a time machine backup, reinstalled Mavericks OS and I still get the same error message. Any thought? Any ideas?

Thank you for pointing that out.
It should be added that this action is what is generally known as Resetting Photoshop Preferences and is the usual method for dealing with unusal behaviour when all obvious remedies have failed.
It is more fully documented in the FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
It is useful to keep a "good" copy of the content of the Settings folder in a separate location on the computer, This can be copied back after a reset to save having to get your individual preferences how you like them.

  • Keep getting Cannot save library file error -50 message on my PC

I keep getting "cannot save library file error -50 when I open up iTunes on my PC
Won't download music purchased on iPhone4 to iTunes in my PC

Same issue here. Running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and newest version of iTunes. Normally happens when I am ripping a CD into iTunes and by chance multi task or the screen saver kicks in.
What ***** is if you walk away while ripping a CD(because it takes 3 times as long in iTunes vs any other ripper), and it will halt your ripping until you click "ok". I have not tried the "dont tell me again" check box just in case it is a problem I need to know about. This happened about 2 or 3 days after upgrading to Vista and I got an empty library the next time I opened the library. Somehow it got corrupted. Luckily I back up the xml file and just restored that one file from last back up.
(off subject but also getting the maxed our processor still in the newest version for Windows Vista. Wish they would fix that!)
