Cannot save file, disk is full error

i am running indesign cs3 ver 5.0.3 and i have installed the update patch. just finished an ad, went to save, and received this error message:<br /><br />cannot save <filename> under a new name. disk is full. (error code: 4)<br /><br />any ideas? i tried rebooting, deleting the preferences for indesign. i can't export it as anything else and i can't make a print ready pdf either .... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Seems obvious, but I wonder why you didn't mention it. Maybe your hard
disk is full, or close to it? Usually "disk is full" means just that.
Your computer needs a few gigabytes of free space all the time.
First thing I'd want to do is go to each hard disk, right-click, choose
Properties, then Disk Cleanup. This will get you enough space so you can
breathe a little. Then think about ways to get more room: either a new
hard disk or get some of the old stuff archived.

  • "Cannot save because disk is full" but disk is not full

I am working on a large 2gb tiff panorama.  I have saved it plenty of times before.  After doing some work today, I went to save it and I get an error "Cannot save file because disk is full".  The disk is very much not full.  There was 15gb of free space on the disk when I tried to save (now down to 6gb because each time I try and save it eats up 2gb that it does not release back when the error pops up), and my scratch disk has 60gb of free space as well.  What is going on here?
I don't want to exit out of the program as I've made quite a few changes to the file that I don't want to lose since I can't save.

Sorry, I misspoke earlier.  The drive I am trying to save to is actually a 1tb drive with 471gb of free space.  The drive with 15gb of free space is the C: that photoshop is installed on.
Also of note that I meant to mention in the original post, the save progress gets to 99% before the error is thrown.
Saving as a .PSB works, so I wonder what it is about the tif that is a problem here.  I would prefer to save the .tiff as this is actually a file I brought over from Lightroom (using the "Edit in Photoshop" option) so I'd prefer to see my changes automatically saved back over there, though I suppose worst case I can import the .PSB in Lightroom and copy the LR adjustments from the other file.

  • Cannot Save File.  File is Locked

Good morning.  I just downloaded the Cloud CS6 and am working with Fireworks. I saved a PNG file then later went back to modify and now cannot save the file.  I am trying to save as with a png extension but keep getting the message cannot save file.  File is locked.  I have read several of the forums but can't seem to resolve by myself.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

did you create the file, or is it coming from a the shared folder, and was (perhaps) created by another user?
I ran across a similar error with a (text edit) file created by another user.
Opened just fine, but when I edited it, then selected Save,
    it failed to save.
Selected Save As... and used the same name and location, the file as expected.

  • I am getting "Disk is Full" errors

Yesterday we starting getting "Disk is Full" errors on our 1TB iMac.  We have approximately 100GB of music, photos, etc., as well as the operating system and Office.  It does not seem as if this should fill up the disk.  In looking at the activity monitor, it shows that 999GB is in use, with 1GB free (approximately).  While I was watching the activity monitor, it went from 1.7 GB free down to 1GB, while nothing was being (intentionally) downloaded.  Virusbarrier did a full sweep and returned no threats; spotlight turned up no files added or modified yesterday to help identify where the space is being used.  Any hints on what is causing this?  Any tips on how to locate where these supposed "files" are being saved?

Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Start up disk space full error

    Hi,
I keep getting the Start-up Disk space full error.
    I already did the following-
    1. Back up my imprtant data.
    2. Disk-Utility- Verify disk etc etc
    3. Check other online forums and try to empty sace.
    4. I deleted about 60-70GB worth of files from my macbook, but it still says only 1.89GB available.
    5. I have emptied by Trash at least 10 times, but all files in it are still intact.
    Please help.
I think my files are not getting deleted or something.
I am far away from a applestore and fear that my hard-drive will crash or something.

I cannot open files in excel with error message "The file name or path contains invalid characters

Found the solution. The hardrive name was changed to "/" which is not a recognised file path character. So I changed the name to "Mac" then I was able to already open all files in excel and word

  • How to I resolve the "start up disk is full" error

I keep getting the "start up disk is full" error. I've cleared as much stuff off of my system and have taken it from 4GB to now having 21GB free space. I've also reset Safari. Still no love. I don't know what else to do. Can anyone please help?

    Try restarting the computer.

  • Cannot Save File because of disk error

I selected 4 RAW images in Lightroom and chose the Merge to Panorama In Photoshop. After the file was created and I cropped it to my desired dimensions I tried to perform a simple save. I was asked what name to give the file and I went with the default settings and clicked OK on the Maximize Compatibility dialogue but I get an error that said "Cannot Save XXXXXX.PSD because of a Disk Error.
There are no details and not other options to find details. The drive these images came from have permissions set to Read and Write so I don't know what the issue is.

Your OS has reported a disk error - which usually means that there is a serious problem with the disk.
Photoshop is just passing along the error it got from the OS.

  • MS Excel Error - Cannot save file

Hello, I have a large Excel file (~130MB) that no longer permits me to save file... I receive error regarding not enough resources, but Excel is the only application open.  Can you help?  Note that the e-mail address used to login is no longer
    valid.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Which Excel version and Excel file format are you using (Tip: If you are using XLS format, I recommend you convert it to XLSX format)?
Did the issue occur only in the special large file or the other small file?
As far as I know, the memory error messages can be very generic and don't always identify the real cause of the issue. However, if your file is large or contains a large amount of features, it is possible you are running low on available memory resources.
Then, we may try to follow the provided methods in this article to troubleshoot the issue:

    Hope it's helpful.

  • Cannot save files to home on solaris amd64

    Hello,
a weird problem occurs after installing Reader 9.1 for Solaris 10/11 amd64: I cannot save to my home directory
/home/user (nor can other users save to their /home/user). This directory is mounted via NFS, but I can save into
another NFS mounted directory mounted with exactly the same mount options. The error is: "The disk you were
saving to or the disk used for temporary space is full....." . Which isn't exactly true, since the /home/user disk has
2.1 TB free (it's ZFS), and the /tmp (which is also what $TMPDIR is pointing to) has 42 GB free (and I can save to /tmp),
whereas the other mounted filesystem I can save to only has 110 GB free.
So I suspect that the large free size of the /home/user directory is not resolved correctly (2 TB limit ?) . Where can I
post this bug, or is it sufficient to mention it here ?

One of my users is having the same problem on centos linux. /home/t4d5 is mounted  via NFS and automount. Size is 13TB. He can't 'save as' there, though there is space and he has permission. When he saves as to a local partition in /, no problem.
'quota' seems to be reporting the wrong info for the NFS mounted partition. On theme4, where the actual disk resides and is exported, the user has plenty of quota to spare:
    [root@theme4 ~]# quota -vls tobiasf
Disk quotas for user tobiasf (uid 2797):
Filesystem  blocks   quota   limit   grace   files   quota   limit   grace
          /dev/sdb1       0       0       0               0       0       0
          /dev/sdc1  87928M    268G    287G           10794       0       0
          /dev/sdd1       0       0       0               0       0       0
          /dev/sde1       0       0       0               0       0       0
          /dev/sdf1   1312G   4578G   4769G            119k       0       0
    [root@theme4 ~]# df|grep sdf
    /dev/sdf1              13T   11T  2.2T  84% /export/t4d5
But on lee1, it looks like his quota is exhausted:
    [tobiasf@lee1 ~]$ quota
Disk quotas for user tobiasf (uid 2797):
Filesystem  blocks   quota   limit   grace   files   quota   limit   grace
    theme4:/export/t4d5
                    1374885168* 505032704 705032704          118802       0       0
Maybe the problem on the adobe side is that reader checks first instead of just trying to write.
    Thanks
    Dave

  • 'Disk is full' error when saving to windows share

    All,
one of my user is using Macbook pro with office for mac 2011 installed on it. when ever user modifies a file from network share and tries to re-save them he gets the error saying 'disk is full'. the network share has around 800GB of free space and he has full permissions on the folder. the only workaround so far is saving it to desktop and replacing the file later which is not ideal for us. this is very annoying. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Is that the exact wording of the message?

  • Not enough Ram memory and cannot save due to a program error in photoshop cs6

Hi, I'm currently a beginner at photoshop cs6, and I've been using it since december last year, mostly to draw stuff and it has worked fine with few to no errors at all.
However, recently when I've been drawing, the same message keeps popping up over and over again "Can't use (tool) due to the computer not having enough ram" followed by either "cannot save due to program error" or, it just simply crashes.
This is obviously a something that worries me A LOT since at first, I thought that it was just a small error, but recently, it's been like this for several day s and I've been forced to re-start the computer (and photoshop) countless times... It really slows down my working progress and is VERY annoying to deal with.
As a beginner though, I don't really know how to fix this. I've been trying to look up some answers on this site, but I've just not found any answer yet...
I'm currently using photoshop cs6 that's up to date and I've got lots of memory left on my computer, so, I'm wondering. What exactly is the cause of this problem, and how can I fix it? Please answer as fast as you can.. I'm getting a bit desperate...
Oh, in case you're wondering, they're all saved as PSD files and every single one of them has about 15+ layers on them.

It would help if you could list a few things:
    1. Your operating system
    2. How much physical RAM do you actually have in your machine?
    3. Under Preferences > Performance, have you allocated "Scratch Disk(s)"?
    4. Also under Preferences > Performance > Memory Usage, what is the "Ideal Range" listed there, and what % is "Let Photoshop Use"?
