Cannot save PDFs

I am using Adobe Reader 11.0.06
I can no longer save PDFs.  They open but when I save them to my computer I receive the following message:
Adobe Reader could not open [XXXX.pdf] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
This happens to all of my attempts to save ever since I downloaded the new 11.0.06 version.  Doubt it is realated, but I recently posted a problem that this version did not allow me to highlight text.  Based on the responses I realized that Adobe probably had not downloaded properly so I re-downloaded it.  That seemed to work (I get functionality in the Comment section now and can highlight, etc) but now I can't save PDFs.
Any help is much appreciated.  Never realized how many PDFs I save!
Thanks!

I use a Mac OS X version 10.8.5
I have always opend PDF's either from a website or from various emails and from online class links and save them using
> File
> Save As
and then saving it to the Finder window on the Mac.
No problems before, just now with 11.0.06
Thanks for your help!

  • Cannot save pdf files using Reader 9.1

I cannot save the pdf files from online journals as .pdf files using Reader 9.1  The only options it gives me are html or plain text.   Previous versions of Reader saved the pdf files easily.  Configuration issue?

What browser are you using? Are you positive that they are PDF files? If so, do you have a link we can look at?
Typicaly, if they really are PDF fies, that's the only option you get when you use fie>save as. If they're just web pages, you get the options that you mention.

  • I cannot save PDF files that has a lock on the right hand side of the tab in safari iOS 5 from my iPad. Please help to find a solution.

Can someone help find a fix of how to save PDF files from safari in iOS 5.0.1? The PDF files show a lock on the right hand side of tab. Only these lock PDF cannot be save. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I assume that you have iBooks or GoodReader or Adobe Reader - some app that will open PDF files so my suggestion would be to start with the basic things, restart your iPad, reset it or quit Safari and restart.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
In order to close/quit apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off.
To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
The lock to the right side of the tab indicates that the website is secure - or at least that is what it looks like in Safai on my iPad. Sites with the https in the address have the lock icon in the tab, non secure sites - web pages without the https - do not have the lock icon. I'm not sure if that has any bearing on it - none of the PDF files that I have opened in Safari have the lock icon.
But if you can open the file - it doesn't make sense that it would be locked??? Try the basic suff and see if any of that helps.

  • I cannot save PDFs to iBooks since the OS-6 Release.

I am unable to save PDF file into iBooks since I upgraded to OS6 the other day. Has anyone else had this issue or heard of a fix in the works from Apple? This OS6 release was not thought out very well or coordinated with the developers of apps. I've had a lot of troubles with various apps since this OS release.

Here's the answer from another post

    Nevermind... figured it out.
If anyone else runs into the problem, here's the fix:

  • Acrobat X plugin running in Browser cannot save pdf files locally

    Hi,
I have a Digital Signature plugin written for Acrobat X and it handles both signature creation and verification. When a PDF with digital signatures is opened in a browser (specifically IE8, IE9) acrobat X runs in browser mode and it calls our digital signature plugin. Our plugin then saves the online PDF to local disk using the following Acrobat X SDK method:
    PDDocSave()
This normally works fine without any problems under windows 7. However, there are some cases where the PDF does not get saved at all. In that case, if we try running Internet Explorer using "Run as admin", saving starts to work again. From this we have concluded that the saving functionality of our plugin requires Internet Explorer to be run as admin.
Problem is that, for users without admin rights this behavior is not ideal.
We have also noted that, if we try to save the PDF opened in a browser using the default save feature of acrobat X, then the save goes through successfully.
Question is, how can we make our plugin to save the pdf the same way acrobat X does when run under browsers?  What options do we have?
    My system specs: Windows 7 64bit,   Acrobat X v.10.1.4 (occurs in 10.1.1 through 10.1.4),    IE9.
    Thanks in advance.

My question is then how is acrobat itslef able to save the same pdf locally at the same destination without any problems. I am assuming it is using the same save api itself.
If acrobat itself can do it, why cant a plugin running inside acrobat X.
And if the plugin cannot achieve the same behavior as acrobat then can we conclude that for a digital signature plugin running inside acrobat X which is running in browser mode to open a PDF:
    - Acrobat X itself and the plugins which run inside it behave differently when saving an online pdf locally. And there is no way for the plugin to achieve the same behavior as acrobat itself in this regard.
    - There is no way (either programmatically or otherwise) for the digital signature plugins, to save online PDFs locally, without either running the browser 'as admin' or adding the website, hosting the online PDF, to Trusted websites list of acrobat X.
    - User of acrobat X plugin has to either run the browser 'as admin' or add the pdf hosting website to Trusted websites list to save the opened PDF locally.
Please confirm if my conclusions are right. And in cases they aren't please explain why. Thanks for you prompt replys.

  • Cannot save PDF due to program error

Just documenting this in case anyone else ever has the same problem.
Running Photoshop CS3 under Windows Vista I could not save as PDF due to a "program error" (whatever that is).
Looked in C:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings
    File PSErrorLog.txt contained the message:
    2009:07:21 15:31:54 : ..\..\sources\PDFUtilities.cpp : 2240 : REQUIRE failed
    Solution:
    Close Photoshop
Rename Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs.psp to Adobe Photoshop CS3 Prefs-old.psp
    Restart Photoshop

Thank you for pointing that out.
It should be added that this action is what is generally known as Resetting Photoshop Preferences and is the usual method for dealing with unusal behaviour when all obvious remedies have failed.
It is more fully documented in the FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
It is useful to keep a "good" copy of the content of the Settings folder in a separate location on the computer, This can be copied back after a reset to save having to get your individual preferences how you like them.

  • Adobe reader 9.3 cannot save pdf.

Trying to save a pdf when I click on disk on top of reader no pop up comes asking where I want to save.  How can I fix this issue?

There is a free tool from Microsoft that will allow you to save a word file as a PDF.
Do some looking and you should find it.  With reader you can print PDFs
, but you cant edit or save them.  You still need a printer to print them to.

  • I cannot save pdf.  I'm using Windows 7

I recently purchased a new computer running Windows 7.  Every time I try to save a pdf document, nothing happens.  I click on the save icon on the bottom floating display but it does not respond when being clicked on.

F9 does not do anything.  By menu bar, I am talking about icons only.
There is no actual menu visible like in Windows.

  • Can't save pdfs from web browser

I recent;y had to reinstll adobe pro on a new computor (purchased here). Now I cannot save pdfs from my web browser. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

    What browser, and what happens?
Are you trying to save PDF as PDF or create PDF?

  • I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. I have tried to download the latest plugin but this doesn't work. Can anyone help?

I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Error reads "Cannot save information" when trying to save my pdf form on another computer

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong in the creation of my PDF form.   When we try to open it on another PC it comes up with another window which reads as follows:
    Cannot Save Form Information
PLEASE NOTE:   You cannot save a competed copy of this form on your computer.
If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it.
If anyone can help me, I would be greatly appreciative !
    Thanks,
    Robert

That message shouldn't show up if you use Reader 11 or DC, unless the form was created with LiveCycle Designer. It also won't happen in Reader if you Reader-enable the form in Acrobat. To do so with Acrobat 11 select:
File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
The specific menu items are different for every other version of Acrobat.

Please copy and paste your question to there.

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
"Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.
