Cannot search/interrogate Mail list

Had half this problem with Mavericks.
Now both searching received mail as well as sent mail is not working as it use to.
I keep my list of emails chronological (by date). (I do not use conversations.)
I use to be able to highlight a person in my list and would find all their emails by clicking 'from' or 'to'.
Now that action will take me to the end or the beginning of those lists in alphabetical order. With thousands of email over 5 or more years that makes it a pain to scroll to the email selection I wanted.
In Mavericks the 'to' list in the sent emails was playing up, now in Yosemite both the 'from' in the received emails and the 'to' in the sent list are not 'working'.
Sorry if there was a more tech savvy way of describing this problem.

Every so often, when the problem recurs, I can get it back to normal just shutting down both iCal and Mail, and then starting up Mail. I think it must have something to do with the way task-data is synced between Mail and iCal.

  • Cannot create new mailing list

I have a large addressbook in TB with many mailing lists created in the past. I am trying to create a new one. When I go "File, New", the mailing list option is blanked out.

    In Address Book
If I select a 'Mailing List' (not an address book)
File > New > Mailing list is greyed out because you cannot create a mailing list from a mailing list.
If you select an address book, then 'Mailing List' should be available.

  • Spotlight searching for mailing list archives

I need to make spotlight searches available for individual Mailman/Pipermail mailing lists' web archives. How can I do it? So far, the only way I've found is to make a copy of the mailing list's web archives somewhere inside a web site's hierarchy, then add indexing for it with the mdimport -f command. Simply using a symbolic link to a mailing list archve folder in /private/var/mailman/archives/private doesn't work. I don't want to keep a separate copy of the mailing list archives just so that I can have one that's spotlight searchable.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I can browse to the iPhoto Library in the Open dialogues from other apps. For some apps (eg Safari, Word), I can see the iPhoto Library, but it is greyed out
That's not what I mean. You're browsing to the Library, I mean +browse the contents of the Library+...
For instance: Consider the Open... Dialogue
On the left there's a Media heading, the contents of your Library can be accessed there.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
Is your Library available there? And in other Media Broswers in Pages, iMovie etc?

  • Cannot create a mailing list in my addressbook

I created a new address book. I then create a (mailing) list and try to add contacts to it. It acts as if it worked, but nothing shows in the list.
    Thunderbird 32.2 (same on 24.x)
Windows 7 Home Premium fully updated

The inability to change an address book (and your Mailing Lists is contained within an address book) often points to corruption of the address book data file.
One way to fix a data file is to export the data to a file ('''Tools|Export''', use the ''LDIF ''option, then delete the offending address book and re-create it by importing from the LDIF file.
In the case of ''Personal Address Book'' and ''Collected Addresses'', you won't be permitted to delete these within Thunderbird. However, if you close Thunderbird and open its profile, the files ''abook.mab'' and ''history.mab'' can be deleted. They will be re-created, though empty, when you re-start Thunderbird, so you import their contents from the respective LDIf files to a suitable temporary address book and then move the Contacts (ctrl+a, drag and drop) into their preferred locations.

  • Cannot enable group mailing list

    Hi,
Running 10.5.2 server on Xserve, server acts as OpenDirectory master and Mail sever.
We have a normal mail service running fine, but trying to enable the "Mailing List" option for groups results in an error.
"Error of type eDSInvalidAttributeType (-14131) on line 733 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/WorkgroupManager-319/Plugins/GroupAccounts/GroupB asicPluginView.mm"
Web service is enabled, and appears as the option for the dropdown "Enable services for this group on:", but even just choosing the server from the dropdown and attempting to save the config (without turning on any services) results in this error.
Can anyone help with what this means?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi,
In Mail service -> General -> ensure "Enable SMTP" is checked,
if you don't desire to send outgoing from clients then don't select any authentication methods in Mail Service -> Security -> SMTP,
In Mail service ->Mailing Lists ensure that "Enable server group mailing lists" is checked,
once that is done, per website -> Web Services ensure "Mailing List web archive" is checked if you want mail to appear on the website,
For each group ensure "Mailing list" is checked, and "Mailing List web archive" if you want the group email repository on the website.
At least one group member should have an email account or a Forward to email address for the mail to go somewhere, assuming Web archive is not selected.
Send an email to the group address at [email protected] and look in the SMTP log for teamsserver to receive the email and then forward to individual addresses.
    Hope this helps,
    Harry

  • Cannot send to mailing list - get msg "invalid email address"

I have set up a mailing list for the first time.
It all seems pretty straightforward and to test it I have used my email address as the only one on the list.
however when I try to send to the list I get the message above.
    any help very welcome
    thanks

have you got a space either before or after the text of the address. clicking and highlighting the address in the address book should show that space up if it exists.

  • I have lost the ability to change fonts, use color and size and when I try to write anyone,I cannot see my mailing list and there is no send button.

A few months ago my ability to use different fonts, colors and sizes suddenly disappeared. These choices were always available when looking at my email and I used them regularly . No one I asked ever heard of such a thing happening. I left it alone until I found someone to help. Then, a few days ago, when I clicked "write" , two things happened. First, I could not forward, reply or even see my collected email addresses. Second, there was no longer a place that said "send". My email page filled the entire screen and when I scaled it down, there was still no way to see my list or to send. I am a novice when it comes to fixes and terms but, I have asked people who have some experience with PC's they were stumped. I contacted Fairpoint and they said it must be a Thunderbird problem. Most of the people I asked said they didn't know Thunderbird. One suggested that I reinstall T.bird but, said I also might lose everything on my PC. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks, Jim

When you click Write and open the new message editor, press Alt to show the Menu Bar, then enable all the toolbars under View/Toolbars. Plus, press F9 to show the Contacts sidebar.

  • Mountain Lion Mail cannot search for non-alpha characters in Subject Lines

Under 10.8.3, Mail 6.3 often cannot successfully find messages if the search string contains a non-alpha character.
I have only tested this searching for Subject lines that are KNOWN to contain non-alpha characters
    Specfic examples:
    Subject starts with "[ABC..."
Mail cannot find it if you search using "[ABC"
Mail CAN find it if you search using just "ABC"
    Subject contains the numeral "2"
Mail cannont find it if you enter "2" as the search string...even if you further constrain the search to "Subject contains: 2"
Other problem characters I have found:
The failure when using square bracket is a real pain since a lot of mailing lists are tagged using strings wrapped in square brackets.
Sometimes it WORKS when I include multiple non-alpha characters in the search string, like "55" or "4/19"
    Anyone else see this?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • I suddenly cannot search my Address Book (Contacts) in Mac Mail.  Seems to be "stuck" on one contact

I suddenly cannot search my Mac Mail Contacts.  Normally, when I type in a name, it immediately comes right up to that contact.  Only way I can see a particular contact I want is to double click on that name.  I want to be able to see it to the right of the list of all my contacts on the left.  Thanks in advance for your help.  I've tried quitting the application, but it's not helping.  I've also checked and all my Software Updates are up to date.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Not exactly clear, but in Address Books tool bar, is Groups & Names shown, or just Names?

  • Cannot search mail in OWA

I have a Windows 7 Pro PC and I'm using IE 11. I can search my mail on my laptop in Outlook, but I can't on my PC via OWA. Thanks

(Try to check given below steps if the issue with OWA/Exchange)
    Run the following commands:
    Test-ExchangeSearch
    Check mailbox database configuration
    Get-MailboxDatabase | Format-Table Name,IndexEnabled
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus | Format-Table Identity,ActiveDatabaseCopy,ContentIndexState -Auto
    Post the results
    Additional:
    Check service state:
Is the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer (MSExchangeSearch) service started on the Mailbox server?
If no, use the Services MMC snap-in to verify that the MSExchangeSearch service is running as follows:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
In Services, verify that the Status for the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer service is listed as Started.

    open exchange Management shell

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts
    run the:
    ResetSearchIndex.ps1
But I would try the steps above first.

    search the store.exe

  • I cannot search messages in Mail... why??

My Mail downloads from my Gmail account. If I search in Mail with the To, From or Subject tabs checked, it's fine. But if I try to search the Entire Message, it never finds a thing - I don't think it even tries!
The messages are all on my HDD and I've had a good look through the Mail Preferences, but cannot work it out. I can, however, search the entire message via Spotlight - but I want my computer to work properly!
    Any help? Thanks.

joefinan, I did a test just to see what happens on mine. It might be different since I don't use Gmail. I have a Saved folder and when I did a Search in the Mail window for the word "July" (without quotes), it only came up with one email with the word "July" even though I knew there were two emails that contained the word. However, after a few minutes I tried again and the two emails came up so I'm wondering if it is indexing the emails as it searches so it won't find something that hasn't been indexed yet. Just my observation.

  • Cannot start mailing list service (mailman)

Whenever I enable mailman in Server Admin, as soon as I click 'Save' the list disappears. Under the info pane, it shows Mailing Lists as 'Stopped' and I cannot see any log entries via server admin. The log file /var/mailman/logs/error is printing:

May 07 12:39:12 2010 (31374) Site list is missing: mailman
Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Running 10.6.3 Server.
