Cannot Search Music Store

I just recently upgraded some of our work machines to iTunes 5.0. Everything seems to be working fine except for the functionality to search for music in the music store. Both Macs and Windows machines experience the following error when attempting to search for anything in the music store:
"We could not complete your Music Store request. An unknown error occurred(-206)."
Those computers running 4.9 or below have no problem accessing music store search and the results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. Music Store search was working fine until late last night. Now can access music store but not the search request. This error message has been posted on many boards over July and August and September. Has anyone been able to solve this error. I noticed Itunes for Windows posted an update for download last night october 13th. Is there any connection to the music store that is related to the new version of itunes. I am hesitant to upgrade to version 6 as it took a long time to resolve a lot of problems with version 5 - I don't want to upgrade and then still have this same problem and then more new problems.

  • Cannot access music store - error message 404

ok- i guess i'm looking for an explanation more than a solution. while trying to download a song (as usual) this morning i received an error message for the first time ever. "cannot access music store. please try again later. 404" ... for 2 hours i searched the net for a solution, checked my firewall, even joined this forum. right before posting this message again, i tried to download the song so i'd be able to explain the error message in this posting. but itunes decided to work.
my question-- does itunes sometimes time out because of heavy traffic? will this problem lessen if i upgrade to a newer version? (btw- how do i do that? i checked off "dont remind me again" when the pesky reminder would pop up... now i want to upgrade.)

Hi - I have the same problem. With the additional wrinkle that I can't close iTunes when it can't connect to the Music store. I have to use Task Manager to kill it. I am totally fed up with Apple for their lack of support on this. However, I have had one thought though: I notice that iTunes registers itself with Windows Firewall as an exceptional program that is allowed to receive incoming network connections. I don't object to that - but the thing is I am using a network modem which has its own built-in firewall. If iTunes has to be able to receive incoming network connections, don't I have to configure the network modem's firewall to treat it as an exception too? I have just done a search for "iTunes Firewall" in Google and it came up with loads of promising looking stuff. I will investigate further.

  • Cannot use Music Store! Cannot download the problematic iTunes 7 either!

Ok. So, now there are instructions to downgrade because of all the problems because of iTunes 7.0. BUT- we cannot use the music store! I have iTunes 6.4 I think nd it will not let me use the store to buy anything. But, I cannot get iTunes 7.0 to install either. I get a choose application prompt when I click the .mpkg file...
What are we/I to do if I want to buy music?!
    TAHNKS SO MUCH!

Please be kind enough to clarify your question: are you using iTunes 6 or 7? Have you ever successfully purchased music from the iTunes Store?
In the meantime, try downloading and installing the combined OS X 10.4.7 updater...the easiest way to do that would be to simply use Software Updater on your Apple menu (under the blue apple).
Also, you shouldn't have any difficulty using iTunes 6 to simply purchase music.
Let us know how it goes!

  • The network connection timed out, cannot access music store

it seems wehatever firewall or antivirus i use has no bearing on what message is coming up!!! i cannot connect to the music store, the messaage says the network connection timed out, make sure your network settings are correct, and your network conection is active, tehn try again. i am on wanadoo livebox, which is hard wired not woreless to my computer, this automatically sets up a network, but i have never had these problems before with itunes 6 but since reinstall its not working!!! someone help for the love of god!!!

Did you make sure it was the exact file for your device and the latest version? I just downloaded the latest file for my iPhone4, put it in the folder I mentioned above and it ran the install versus downloading the file. This problem where it times out after downloading is a big Bug within iTunes that has been there ever since IOS 7.0 was released. I wished these apple developers would just fix iTunes. There are a ton of complaints about this issue. I sure miss Steve Jobs running this business, I really feel like it's gone down hill after he left.
    I hope this helps!
    Regards.

  • Searching music store

I can access music store and, for the past three months, could search and download. Suddenly, I start getting an error message (that closes itunes) when I try to search for titles, etc.
    Help?

is that an "itunes has encountered a problem" message?
if so, let's first explicitly doublecheck your precise itunes version number. go "help > about itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen. for example, mine says "itunes 6.0.5.20".
if yours says "itunes 5.0.1.4", try upgrading to 6.0.5.20. that seems to have been working for most folks with the 5.0.1.4 version of the "search crash".

  • Downloaded Update, now cannot access Music Store

We've been able to use the s/w without incident. Today, we were prompted to download your update. We did.
Now when we attempt to access the Music Store, we get a popup with the following:
iTunes could not connect to the Music Store.
Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
MY NETWORK CONNECTION IS JUST FINE - IT'S YOUR DOWNLOAD THAT'S THE PROBLEM. IF I UNINSTALL YOUR S/W AND REINSTALL USING THE CD-ROM, WILL WE LOSE THE MUSIC WE HAVE PURCHASED THUS FAR?

If you have any probs with getting into you music store after downloading a new version of itunes you have to configure your personal firewall in Norton. To do this - Open you Norton Internet Security, click on Status & Settings, go down to Personal Firewall and click on Configure...Click on the Programs tab at the top, in Manual Program Control, scroll down until you see itunes, click on the arrow next to it (it might say BLOCK ALL right now)...Change this to PERMIT ALL... and you should be good to go!! good luck all!

  • Search  Music Store-to no avail!

The search facility has to be the worst I've ever encountered and unless the song/album I want is very famous or by a big name, it seldom finds it. For example I put in the title 'Angel is a Centrefold' and it found nothing. So I Googled it, founs out the artist, search for this name in iTunes and up it came! Can't they use a Google-type search engine as it has to be losing them sales (which is the most important thing!)?

I do agree they need to overhaul there search engine for the store. But if you search for song only without the artist, you can organize your results by "Song Name" so you can narrow it down alittle better

  • After the upgrade to ios7 my 4s iphone won't open the itunes store or allow me to search the store. Not even using a different app that links to the stores download button.

After the upgrade to ios 7 my iphone 4s will not open the itunes store at all. It will allow me to open a specific song from another app for download from apps such as shazam, but I cannot search the store. ios 7 is the worst thing since windows vista.

And it's not the safari settings either, i've already tried that and resetting my phone a few times.

  • I cannot create a Music Store account.

I have purchased a new laptop recently and am downloading iTunes. I tried creating an iTunes Music Store account, but cannot because it asks for a credit card and I do not have one. Is there any other way I can still create an account, so I can download my album artwork?

do you knowof any way I can easily transfer all of my music from my iPod to my new computer?
If you're using iTunes 7, you can copy purchased music back to iTunes directly. If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:

  • Cannot connect iTunes to the Music Store, Dell computer, XP Pro

I have a Dell XPS computer (about 2.5 years old) running Windows XP Pro w/service pack 2.
I bought an iPod way before Christmas, and have never (not once) been able to access the music store from my computer. Sometimes the "progress bar" just shows the "candy cane" progress meter with zero progress, sometimes the progress bars gets to about 90%, sometimes the progress bar completes, and I actually get an opening page displayed from the music store, but I can never get ANY further, cannot login, setup a new account, authorize my computer for any music, etc.
My wife's computer just a few feet away from mine, is a newer Dell XPS running XP Service Pack2, same home network, same router, SAME ISP, all works fine. Zero on my computer.
As stated it's XP Pro, w/service pack 2. Norton AntiVirus 2003 (OEM from Dell), using the XP Firewall, no other accelerator software etc.
    I've tried:
    a) disabling Norton
    b) disabling Firewall
    c) I've done the msconfig startup (as detailed online), not allowing anything must MS services and iPod programs to start up
I'm getting really, really tired of this. This is the ONLY program on my computer not working properly and requiring this kind of time. I'm extremely computer saavy (write my own software in vb.net, etc.) and can try anything anyone suggests, but so far NOTHING has made any difference.
Based on the logic that my wife's computer works fine, I'd say it's not the network, router, router firewall, ISP or any of those usual suspects. In fact I've tried dialup too direct from my computer (just to try and authorize ONE video my wife bought I would like to play on mine) but no luck.
Any other suggestions. Honestly - not accessing the Music Store isn't the end of the world to me entertainment wise. but it really, really frustrates me that Apple is no help (oh yes, I emailed them too and got the boilerplate response) and that I can't get on.
Sorry for such a long post, any ideas?

    1) What exactly would I check on the router to make sure it's open it iTMS for MY computer? I know I said I'm an "advanced user" but you got me on that one, lol!
That would depend on the router. I know that some routers with firewalls control the ports individually by internal IP address, but without knowing your model of router, I don't know if that applies in your case (and I might well not know even if you told me the model; I'm only familar with a couple). If your router has a firewall and it can be shut off completely, you might give that a try as a test.
    2) I'll try uninstall and reinstall again. I've never done the registry entry check, so just search for "itunes" and stuff like that and delete?
iTunes and QuickTime, yes. CCCleaner (freeware) might help.
    3) Is there any benefit to doing the entire re-install while in the msconfig "startup" mode, i.e. with everything else turned off?
That I can't say, not having done it. Sorry; perhaps someone else will have an opinion about that.

  • Why i cannot search any music on my itunes? is it necessary to register and pay an annual fee in order to usa the itunes in your ipad?

why i cannot search any music on my itunes? is it necessary to register and pay an annual fee in order to usa the itunes in your ipad?

To search your music library on your iPad, use the music icon.  The I tunes button takes you to the store where you can buy more music or videos.     To play your won music etc you do not need to be connected to apple, the music is on your pad.
If you want to get new stuff from iTunes, and load it onto your pad, you need an account.  Your account is your apple id.
