  • Cannot resize address or search bars. This is the main reason I do not use Firefox. On Mac OS 10.6.8. The search bar is so small I can't type and see what I'm typing.

I've tried all the answers given in the forums and nothing works. The hand never changes to the double ended arrow.

What worked was upgrading to the current version of FireFox. I wasn't aware that I was out of date because I don't use it as my default browser. Primarily because the search bar was too small!
    It's all fixed now.

  • WHY CAN I NOT EDIT THE DEFAULT SEARCH ENGINE USED BY THE ADDRESS BAR (NOT THE SEARCH BAR NEXT TO IT) FROM BING TO GOOGLE?

I am asking this question again, because upon checking the forum for a solution I was shocked and appalled by the severe lack of grammar, punctuation and spelling I encountered while reading answers to this question. Obviously several people where to busy to actually read the question being asked and simply answered with instructions on how to change the default search engine for the search bar. SO, here I am asking the same question, why? because it still has not been answered and I myself still CANNOT find this setting anywhere. I use multiple browsers for different tasks, Chrome is KICKING the .... out of you guys Mozilla, why did you ever let your self get taken in by Micro-crack (Microsoft), if I recall correctly the inception of this program was partly motivated by the need for an alternative to the idiosyncrasies and vulnerability of Microsoft Internet Explore. This really feels like a HUGE step backwards, I would love to see a return to the days when Mozilla Firefox was and inspiration to developers and techs everywhere. And please will someone just answer the right question this time. Trust me when I say it will be obvious who does and does not read this in it's entirety.

HAHA! I have solved it! Ok here is the URL for Google, as mentioned above by bram:
    "Go to About:config
    Search for keyword.URL
Double click the Value entry field, and change it to the search engine you prefer"
Enter this URL for the string value

  • With Mavericks and Safari 7, I can no longer use address bar to search.

With Mavericks and Safari 7, I can no longer use address bar to search. It shows the suggested searches but nothing happens when hitting enter or clicking with mouse. What can I do? No extensions btw.
I just cannot search - it won't work.

I had this problem and finally figured it out. Try going to View, and then Show Toolbar. I hope this helps everyone...
EDIT: I didn't read your question carefully enough. Sorry. My problem was that the toolbar wasn't showing up at all.

  • Why do google search results reset to match the search bar terms when i use the back button?

Since the update to FF 23, the list of Google search results clears and the on-page search box is reset to match the address bar search box when I hit the back button to re-view the results list after checking a result.
To see this issue for yourself, set your search provider to Google and make sure Instant is on. Type a search term into the search bar and press enter. A google page appears with your results list. Now, change your search terms or conduct a new search directly from the google page (without using the FF search bar). Click on the first result in the search list, then click the back button to return to the search results so you can check a differest result. As FF goes back to the google page, it will reset the on-page search box to match the FF search bar (although you were no longer on this search) and all search results will disappear, replaced by the message "Press enter to search". Pressing enter reconducts your old search, not the one you were on.
This is incredibly maddening since searching for something requires frequent use of the back button to check through the list of search results, and then frequently trying the search again with slightly different terms. Although it sounds like a Google issue, it did not occur on the old firefox and has me wanting to revert. I tried to revert to the old search function via the "keyword search" addon, but this did not fix my issue. Is there a way to force FF to go back to the actual google search page I was just on instead of conducting a new google search from the FF search box when I hit the back button?

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.<br />
The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.<br />
Current Firefox versions do not update the about:home home page until you refresh the page (future versions will do this automatically without a refresh) and that is what happens if you use the Back key.
You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

  • When I am using the browser for a while and try to use ANY search bar and hit the "search" button it does a whopping NOTHING is there anyway of keeping this from happening?

Whenever I am using Firefox mobile - either regular, beta or aurora and go to search for something like through the Google search page and attempt to search for something the search bar does nothing and hitting the enter button instead doesn't do anything either. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

Hi and thanks to not leaving the firefox user alone.
Cor-el your answer is right as the madperson is and I already knew all these
answer and I said that before I don’t use any antivirus and I always turn off my firewall from the moment I installed my Windows.
I even turn off any automatic update for any of my software and I never let any unknown plugins or any thing like that be install without informing me. And if you know some things like Offline Storage and cookies must be to much more than usual and you have to clear them and delete them and I know so much more
And if you want to know it fixed now. But I don’t know how?
For understanding my problem read and research about Ixplorer.exe virus it is the same problem about the speed but the different is it doesn’t show any process in task manager like Ixplorer.exe virus
Bt I have done some things but still I don’t know that’s why it is fixed or not
First: I searched my system and removed any files have been crated on my system from two days ago since the problem happened.
And then I used to go about the article in this page and did like this:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080910101846AAazxN5
but still I don’t know any thing about the problem.
I can do so many things to fix but I am just curios if that is a virus why it just cut the speed when I am using the browser.
Please if any one found the reason send me your information I like to know it will improve my knowledge however my problem is solved fro now.

  • Why does using Google in the search bar (and only Google) not let me open search results in the same tab?

    Hello,
When I use Google in the search bar, I have to open the search results in a new tab. If I simply click on them to open in the current tab, I'm inevitably redirected right back to the main Google site. This has only started happening in the past month or two -- I'm considering switching to Chrome after 5 years with Firefox because of this. Please help! It's incredibly frustrating to consistently have to remind myself to open all search results in a new tab. It's quite a waste of time over the course of a day.
    Here are the basic steps:
    1) I do a search using Google in the search bar.
    2) As is supposed to happen, the search returns results in the current tab.
    3) When I click on a result link, I'm immediately sent back to www.google.com.
    4) If I hit back to try to return to the search results, I'm taken to the page that was loaded BEFORE I even did the search.
    5) If, and only if, I instead right-click or Mouse3 click on the search results and open them in a new tab, I can successfully go to the search result pages.
    --Thank you

  • The little search bar used to keep Google search phrase showing but in Firefox 5.0 it doesn't. How do I get that feature back?

I'm not sure what the feature is technically called. I have Google as the start page and use that to search.
In older versions of Firefox, after entering a search phrase in the main Google search bar, the phrase was shown next to a little Google icon. It was usually below the bar showing the URL I happened to click on.
I could then open a new tab and click on the little Google icon and get more search results in that new tab. I could then compare web pages on different tabs.
Maybe I have set the tabs function up differently? In any case, I hope there is a way to use the same search phrase in different tabs.
    Thanks.

    You're welcome

  • I am Unable to Type or use Keyboard in Firefox 18.0 anywhere including URL bar and Search Bar. how should rectify this?

I am unable to type anything or use keyboard to type in Firefox. I am using Firefox 18.0 installed on Windows 7.
I am able to Paste into the URL bar and also the Search bar but absolutely not able to type in it.
I have already tried the "reset" option but still unable to type.
Also tried Firefox in safe mode with disabled addons but still unable to type.
Installed a fresh copy of firefox after uninstalling Firefox and deleting the old folder "Mozilla Firefox" from windows. but still unable to type.
Please tell me a solution to this.

I'm not on a laptop so I don't have a FN key. But on my desktop F9 + Windows key appears to have resolved the issue for me. Thanks for the help!

  • I have no tirefox tool bar or search bar at all. Can't figure out how to get it. Using windows vista.

Since updating Firefox, I have no tool bar / menu bar / search bar. All I have at the top is my fox news radio tool bar.
I can't figure out how to get the tool / menu / search bar at the top of my screen. So... I can't search from Firefox.

The alt key or F10 will reveal hidden toolbars. Then use View- Toolbars to turn them back on.
Then press F9 when in a write window to turn on the contact sidebar for access to your address books.

  • I have a twitter search bar by my navigation bar and I have never used twitter in my life and want to eliminate it

I have only used Firefox for a couple of weeks. It worked fine at first, but at one point it started a problem of me not being able to navigate through web sites or within a web sight easily. I could click on the arrows for back and forward and more than half the time, it wouldn't work. if I kept clicking, maybe it would work. I noticed a "Twitter" search bar for the first time and have been trying to get rid of that and use the Bing search bar, but can't do it. I downloaded the Bing search bar but can't get it installed. The Twitter bar is worse than useless.

I was finally able to get rid of the Twitter search bar. I clicked on the tiny down pointing triangle right after the Twitter icon and selected Bing.
I'm still not sure if it corrected the problem with my back and forward arrows. Before, I could click on them at times and get a " Waiting for "whoever'" and a blank screen or the same page I was looking at before. I could click several times and it would finally work. I could usually click on my Home icon and it would work, but EVERYTHING was very uncertain. I am still experiment to see how often it still happens, but I stopped using Microsoft IE because of a similar problem. When I first installed Firefox, it was fine, but I was trying to work on cookie retention or rejection and I believe that is when it got screwed up.

  • When I click the URL bar or the search bar, it doesn't select the text or show the cursor like it used to.

AS the question says, when I clicked the search bar in previous versions, "Google" would disappear and I would see the flashing cursor. When I clicked in the URL of a blank tab, it would select all the text, and I would see a cursor when I typed or backspaced to remove the selected text. Now, none of that happens.
After a bit of troubleshooting, it appears that any theme I use causes this issue.
In the previous version of Firefox, I used the exact same plugins add-ons and theme, and never had this issue.
I went thru and tried disabling all the add-ons and plugins, and unless I run in safe mode, I have the same result. None of the add-ons or plugins causes this. It seems to be any theme I use that causes this.

Firefox 15+ will still display the grayed placeholder text if you click an input field or text area.<br />
The placeholder text will only disappear after you have typed at least one character.

  • Why would links or search bars on the top half of the page not work on any site when i use firefox but work fine in IE?

links and search bars on the top half of pages dont work and its not that i click them and they dont work but it wont let me click them its like it doesnt see them

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

  • After a system restore, my search bar can't be used

My computer had a system restore after a storm shut my computer off after being frozen. No other issues are going on other than when I try to use the search bar, nothing happens. If I use the drop down box in the search bar, the only options I get are Add "Firefox Help", and Manage search engines. If I click on manage search engines, usually I get a list of options, google, yahoo, etc, but it is completely empty and restore defaults is grayed out.
Per other suggestions on this forum, I have upgraded to the latest firefox version, I have also downloaded the serachreset addon which didn't help. Also, there was another post on deleting the formhistory.sqlite file under my profiles, however, when I went to try this, there was no such file for me. (from this website's instructions http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_search_or_add_new_engines)
Please help as I don't want to have to delete the entire program just to find that upon reinstall, I don't have a fix.

You are sure that they are in browser\searchplugins and not in \searchplugins in the Firefox program folder?
There has been a change and in current Firefox versions some files and folders have been moved to the browser folder and searchplugins is one of them.
