Cannot see my SSID

Hi there,
Just bought the WRT160N to replace a WRT54 and have issues.  I cannot see the SSID from the wireless desktops, it does not show in the list to select from when I can see plenty others.  On the other hand, I have a laptop with Vista, and I could connect once I changed the encryption mode and Key.  Furthermore, the laptop has perfect reception when by the wireless desktops.  Encryption is WPA.  Any idea?  Thanks in advance. Charlysc

The SSID is a wireless setting on the router and has nothing to do with the internet service provider unless you have a modem with a wireless access point.
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Certain machines cannot see broadcasted SSID

I created a guest wireless network on my 5508 controller (uses default a/n), and it is set to broadcast the SSID
Almost everyone can see this network SSID: my Mac sees it right away, and I can join it and surf the web all day.
Two Windows laptops had an issue seeing the SSID --it wouldn't show up when they scanned for wireless networks. One of these was corrected when the machine was updated to Windows 8.1
The other is a HP laptop running Windows 7. Even though we did some updates, the machine can't see the SSID. Even if I pace the machine within 10 feet of the AP, nothing. The user's Android phone sees the SSID no problem.
Since this client is never joining the network, I have little to go by (no logs).
Has anyone seen this? What could be the issue?

    HI colin,
    1. Did you enabled all radios ?
    2. Did the client(windws lapi) support 802.11a and 802.11b radio(2.4/ 5 Ghz).
    3. If above both points are ok then check the driver of the machine and try to update.
also paste the sh wlan out put here.
Check these and let us know the outcome.

  • Ipad cannot see wireless network

Hi, I have a wireless network using several Cisco 1131AG wireless access points.  I have several Mac computers that see the wireless SSID and connect to the internet wirelessly.  However, Ipads and Iphones don't see the wireless network.  They cannot see the SSID at all.  I have tried ipad 2, iphone 4 and 5.  The network is not secured at this point.  Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Some users cannot "see" broadcast Public Access SSID but can all others...

I've had 4 users in the last 3 days who've reported not being able to see our broadcast "public access" wifi SSID. Numerous users (even in same area, attached to same AP) can see it - however some cannot. The do see all of the other broadcast SSIDs, just not the public. The public is open and broadcast with security enabled. Does anyone know if this is a client issue - possible with a recent AV or MS security update? ("protecting" clients from unsecured networks by not displaying them?)

If you notice that at a given time some users can and other can't see the ssid, it almost points to the client side. Compare drivers from the two clients and see if the driver versions are the same or old.

  • Windows XP cannot see Airport Extreme SSID

I just bought a new Airport Extreme Base Station and connected it to my home router. My iMc was connected in minutes. But I am having a lot of trouble connecting my wife's Dell PC (XP SP2) using a Dell 1450 Wireless USB adapter (a/b/g). I have tried no encryption, WEP, and WPA, but in all cases I cannot even see the broadcasted SSID from the base station. I have also tried a number of different channels 1,6,8,11, but in all cases I never see the station in the list of available wireless networks.
To see if this was a windows issue, I brought home my work laptop (also XP SP2), and it had no problem seeing the SSID, and also connecting in all the above cases. Whats even more perplexing is that all the computers are right next to each other, and my wife's computer can see about 10 of meighbor's access points, but not the new base station!
Needless to say, it has been very frustrating, and I am considering returning the airport if I can't get the wife's XP connected.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

I can see a couple of possibilities.
    * It is possible to set up AirPort (or any wireless network) so that the SSID doesn't show up - ever. In such cases, it's necessary to manually type in the SSID to connect. (Usually, it's only the first time - most devices can remember the SSID name, and it's not a problem). Unfortunately for you, I don't use Wintendo that much, and don't have the steps needed to connect to a hidden network memorized - I'm actually more familiar with the process to do it with an Xbox than I am with a Windows PC.
    * To see if this is the case, use the AirPort utility, manual config. Find the "Wireless" tab, and then choose "wireless options" There should be a checkbox named "create a closed network" If it is checked, then the SSID is in fact hidden, and that's why you aren't finding the SSID.
I realize that you were able to see the SSID from another machine, and that is puzzling that your wife's PC can't see it.
You've already eliminated the possibility that the radio is simply turned off on your wife's PC, as you can see your neighbor's wireless SSID(s).
I'd suggest trying a different encryption, as some older devices can't use the newer methods - but you've covered that base too.
To be honest, I've got a couple of issues of my own with the 802.11n base station... the latest firmware 'update' seems to have been a step backwards...

  • Cannot see SSID nor can I use Join Other network with Graphite BaseStation

I got a hand me down Graphite Basestation. I can administer it via Ethernet, and I can get out on the Internet that way, but I can't join the Basestation wirelessly. None of my computers can see the SSID nor can I used the Join Other Network to join. Any idea why?

Correction - I mean Snow Basestation, not Graphite

  • Airport Utility cannot see Airport Extreme Device even though connected to wireless network

I'm trying to set up a Macbook Air for my wife. I have a home network of four Airport Extremes that were configured in bridge mode with an authenticated SSID and one that is open for guests. On my PC my airport Utility sees all of the base stations and can configure them fine. On the Macbook air the utility cannot see any of the base stations no matter how many times I scan. The strange thing is that it can see both wireless networks. A fact that may be related to the problem is that the Macbook Air cannot authenticate into the secured SSID. The password is correct. Other machines (PC/Mac) all have no problem. Apple TV 2's, iPad's, and iPhone's all have no problem. I'm stumped.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

As usual in recent years, Apple creates and ships a problem (latest MacBook Air + Airport Extreme N + Airport Utility 6.1), and when multiple users encounter the problem, and post about it, nary an Apple supoort person to take ownership, so threads just die, like this one did. I'm having the same problem, and as a committed Apple customer, I just want to find any oither company to do business with.
(I'm sure connecting by wired Ethernet would work, but THE AIR DOESN'T HAVE AN ETHERNET JACK!!)
Love this community. Have had it with Apple.

  • LifeDrive cannot see my network

My network is working, I can use my laptop wirelessly.  However, I cannot see my network on my LifeDrive, as though it is not receiveing it, although I seem to be able to see other networks.  I have tried setting the router to .11b only, changed the channel all to no avail.  Any ideas?
    Post relates to: LifeDrive

    A few things to try:
Cycle power to your router, soft reset the LD, make sure your router is set to broadcast the SSID (and not "invisible" ).
Your router has a name that is different from any around you, right?  (Not all called "Linksys" or "Netgear" for example)

  • DeskJet F4583 cannot see wireless network

    Hi,
I am trying to put my F4583 on the network but it cannot see the router.
I ask the utility to scan and it comes back and sees nothing (there are four or five in my neighbourhood).
I type in the exact SSID name and it still cannot find the network.  The blue wireless light just sits a blinks slowly.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried unplugging the power cable on the printer and plugging it back and they trying to search for the network?

  • NB550D - WiFi cannot 'see' 11N network, only 11G

    Hi
My new laptop cannot "see" the 11N network on my router, only the 11G from any location in the house. Other PCs and XBox in the house have no problems seeing both. The Wireless access control is not switched on.
    PC - NB550D
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium
Updated to latest Atheros Wireless LAN Driver 9.2.0.206.0
I have a Netgear Rangemax Wireless N Modem Router
    - It has two channels: 11G is 11 and 11N is 36
    - Both SSIDs are being broadcast
    - Wireless Security is set to WPA2-PSK
Please have a magic answer for me!

I'm guessing the NB550D doesn't support the 5GHz radio band and your router is set to 5GHz for 802.11n
You may need to drop 802.11g and reconfigure 802.11n to use 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz (unless your router can support two 2.4GHz connections simultaneously).

  • Cannot see new SQL 2008 R2 Express instance on Small Business Server 2011!

    Hi,
As it is stated on the subject line, I'm having a problem after I did a new install of SQL 2008 R2 Express and put a new instance on SBS 2011.
I'm developing a new program using SQL 2008 in C# and VB.Net. I have SQL 2008 R2 Express installed on my computer called "MSQL8R2EDATA" on my PC. Now I need to deploy it on SBS 2011 so I can do some testing on other workstations.
I'm currently running Windows 7, 64 bit, and it's named STEVE-PC. The SBS 2011 is named SERVER1, and it's 64 bit as well.
After installation on SERVER1 (SBS 2011), I then fired up SQL Server Configuration Manager and enabled Named Pipes, TCP/IP, and VIA.
After I've completed the SQL Configuration on SERVER1, I went back on my PC (STEVE-PC) and I tried to use Management Studio to connect to the  new instance MSQL8R2EDATA on SBS 2011, only problem is, I only see the computer name, not the new instance
    I've installed.
Back on SBS 2011 (SERVER1), I've verified that all the protocols are enabled, and the SQL Server Browser is automatically loaded and currently running, as well the MSQL8R2EDATA instance is automatically loaded and running, yet I still cannot see
it from my PC (STEVE-PC). I even switched from dynamic ports to a static port of 64719 (that was what the MSQL8R2EDATA was listening on that port when it was dynamic), and then added new rules to the Windows Firewall for program of the SQLSERVR.EXE, and
for UDP and TCP for port 64719 to "Allow All Connections" for Domain, Private, and Public; yet I still cannot connect SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA. I even disabled the firewall and then trying to connect once again to SBS 2001 and it still fails.
In case you're wondering, I left it on port 64719 since there are other active SQL Servers on SBS 2011 (SharePoint, SBSMonitoring, and ACT7).
Interestingly, when I run Management Studio on SBS 2011, I can see STEVE-PC\MSQL8R2EDATA and I'm able to log in and connect to it.
So what's going on here?!? Why am I able to connect to STEVE-PC which is Windows 7 64 from SBS 2011 (SERVER1), but I cannot connect from my computer to that instance on SBS 2011??
I really could use some big time help on this.
EDIT: Sorry for the confusion, but on the Windows Firewall (WF.msc), I did add new rules for incoming connections on:
    Program incoming connections to SQLSERVR.EXE
    TCP Port 64719
    UDP Port 64719
EDIT: To further assist, I have Management Studio installed on the SBS 2011, and I can locally log in and connect to the MSQL8R2DATA on SERVER1 with success. I even tried tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2DATA and again it is successful log-in and connection.
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve

    Hi,
Thanks for the response, but I have a question:
Installing SQL Express or SQL Server is not recommended on SBS
2011 because it is a DC, however technically it will work.
I'm a newbie when it comes to SBS 2011 and I'm taking a crash course on the subject. Can you explain to me what you mean by "DC"? Also, why
isn't recommended to install a new instance on SBS 2011?
As I also stated, I've added "New Rules" to the Windows Firewall to allow incoming connections on port 64719 for both TCP and UDP, and I also allowed incoming connections for SQLSERVR.EXE but no joy to connect to the SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA.
And yes, I can log-in and connect locally on SERVER1 using Management Studio with success. I even used tcp:SERVER1\MSQL8R2EDATA with the same success. It's my workstation STEVE-PC that fails. If that fails, then the rest of the workstations are going to fail.
Are you suggesting that I put the SQL Server 2008 Express on another workstation and just allow to to be
    accessed that way?

I just switched from an iPhone to a Galaxy 4S and I like it except for text messaging.  I can text, they can see it, but I cannot see their response if they are using an iPhone.  Can you help me with this?  What do I do please?

Congratulations on your new phone kathdogg! Now let's get your messaging working correctly. If you still have your old device, turn it on, go to settings, and turn off iMessaging.
If you are no longer in possession of your old device, you will need to remove your phone number from your Apple Support Profile. This can be done here: http://bit.ly/1cst2SC

  • Cannot see table in sql developer or sql plus

I have created a record in application designer. I have then built the table. I can close the record and then find it again in application designer. But if I go to sql plus or sql developer, I cannot see it. Am I missing a step?

You probably can see all the tables of sysadm because someone else give you proper grant for that on existing sysadm's objects.
For the new or modified object (drop+create) you should :
    1. connect as sysadm and run
grant select on new_table_name to your_own_user;2. connect with your own user and run
create synonym new_table_name for sysadm.new_table_name;Then you'll be able to query that table without using schema name alias.
Some admin have also a ddl trigger to make it automatically.
You could also work through a role and public synonym if more than one user needs to access sysadm's objects.
    Nicolas.
