Cannot see or copy protected files to new computer

We purchased a new computer and moved our iTunes Music folder to it using our wireless home network. When using the new computer to look at the contents of the iTunes Music folder on the old computer, we cannot even see icons or folders for any of the protected songs. So, we cannot drag them over. After the move, we authorized the new computer within iTunes but we still have the problem.
We have also tried to use the old computer, where we can see the folders with the protected songs, but it will not let us copy them over (error message is "Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the the file is not currently is unse.)
I know this sounds complicated but hopefully somebody has had the same ot a similar problem. Help please...

I purchased the M400 a few weeks ago. There are a number of problems. Adobe reader gives "an internal error occurred", installing manual from download gives "error has occurred in zip file", downloading or copying files to hdd gives error "there is no space" when only 8 gig used from 60GB. Now I cannot see any of my files in Word.
I cannot also copy files from cd or dvds. I am in canada mississauga on hols, normally reside in the UK so I am in a precarious situation because I cannot get into my desktop to sort matters out.

Thank you Eldorado for your clear advice. As I said I am on hols here and have left my USB external drive at home so it??s impossible to do what you say. Before I embark on your 2nd instruction I would like to say that the warning from the recovery disk is so frightening. It says if the HDD is reformatted I will lose everything including any additional\ software installed which to me means such additional software will not be made good.
But your advice seems quite good because you say everything will be reinstalled when the OS is reinstalled. Can I have your assurance that I go ahead as you say?

Not necessarily. I'd suggest downloading and installing the "combo" update. That's a combination (thus the clever name) of all the updates to Leopard since it was first released, so installing it should fix anything that's gone wrong since then, such as with one of the normal "point" updates. Sorting DRM copy protected files from an iTunes library

I want to copy my iTunes library, without picking up the DRM copy protected files.
Is there a way I can copy the files using a script that will skip the copy protected files?
Looking at get info the file type is different, unfortunately my scripting skills are remedial.

The easiest way to do this doesn't require AppleScript. In iTunes create a new "Smart Playlist". In the dialog that appears, select "Kind" from the first pull down menu, "does not contain" from the second pull down menu, and type "Protected" without the quotes in the text field. This will create a smart playlist of all of your non-DRM items. From there, select all of the items in the playlist and drag them to a folder in the Finder. Might be a long copy but it should do the job.

I plugged my usb hard drive in and what looked like time capsule started automatically on my mac. The same hard drive worked perfectly on my laptop pc before, now it connects but isn't visible in my computer.
My second hard drive works perfectly well on both my pc and mac, so I am not sure what has happened to the one in question.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to move everything to your new computer.

I thought all I had to do was copy the itunes folder in My Music to a hard drive, and then copy that to my new computer in the same path. But when I open the itunes music folder, it is clear that only a fraction of my music files are in there. I want to do this right, so can anyone help?????

If the drive has failed the only way to get any data off it is to send it to a Data Recovery company. Which is very expensive and no guaranty they will be able to retrieve any data.
That is why Apple has included a system to backup your Mac on a regular basis, Time Machine. Also there are other Apps to do basically the same thing by Cloning your internal drive to an external drive. Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper. Along with using Disk Utility to Image the internal drive to an external drive.
Sorry to tell you but if the drive has really failed your Data is gone unless you pay a large sum of money to one of the Data recovery companies.

What happens when you try, how are you doing it, and what are the files (music, films, documents ...) ?
If you are trying to copy documents then you first need an app on the iPad that supports the type of file that you want to copy to it - the iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be associated with an app. As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.
If you are trying to copy music or films then are you using your computer's iTunes ?
