Cannot see pictures on my imac

Can anyone help me please
When i open up picture folders using either firefox or safari in my email addresses the pictures don't show just a little icon which looks like a little box with a saw in it or a little blue box with a ? mark. It looks like that it must be something in the settings on my computer, but not sure where i should be going. I have not long upgraded to ios6 i look forward to your help.
Thank you in advance

Hi toddfromport jefferson station,
It is not clear from your post whether you can access anything else on using your network connection, such as the Internet. It is also not clear if your connection to your network (from any of your devices) is via Ethernet or wifi. In any case, for a wireless network, you may want to use this article to troubleshoot -

  • Have synced iPhone to iMac but cannot see any Contacts on  iMac

Am new to iMac. Have managed to sync iPhone to iMac. But when I then open iMac Contacts, cannot see any.

Thanks, but I don't and won't use the Cloud. When I bought the iMac I thought I could use it with the iPhone 4S. Now I find that I am expected to hand over a lot of confidential information to the Cloud, if I just want to copy my iPhone Contacts to my iMac Contacts.
Why does Apple want to put such a condition on what is a normal basic principle, of having a copy of my Contacts file ?

  • Cannot see pictures in iPhoto Recovered Folder

After importing my pictures from my camera, I could not see it in iPhoto. After repairing iPhoto, there are files in the Repaired folder but the thumbnails are all grey. When I open the picture, they are blank but info shows the file size as 2.7mb or 3mb. How do I view these pictures?

What I would try is to export those photos to a folder on the Desktop via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  with Kind = Original.  Then open them with Preview and see if they will disply properly.  If the do save each as a new file with a new file name and try to import the new files.
If you can get the new files into iPhoto delete the problem files.

  • Iphoto 08 cannot see pictures from this past year in events?

    Hi!
I have been using iphoto 08 pretty successfully this past year, getting used to not being able to access the files directly, uploading on to snapfish, and accessing my photo library on the external hard drive.
well, tonight I was trying to post a picture on to facebook, was browing old pictures from 2004. after not finding what I was looking for, i scrolled back down to pictures I uploaded just last night and voila........the last event folder is dated December 2007
What happened? I see them when looking through my finder (i have leopard) and I see the file path but I do not see them in iphoto 08.
please help, I must have uploaded thousands of pictures in the past year........

Sounds like a damaged database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Cannot see pictures

In my iPhoto's, something recently happened that caused me not to see some photos in my journal or picture page. It shows thumbnails of frames where my picture should be. Could it be from the recent update?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.

  • Cannot see wdtv live from imac

    hello everyone,
hope i am explaining it correctly:
the imac is the main computer where all data are.
the macmini is for internet, pictures and streaming data from the imac (mostly movies).
the wdtv live is only streaming from imac. (only movies)
as of yesterday, the imac is not visible to any device...
    restarted everything, nothing
changed the ip to manual, nothing
changed it back to DHCP, lost the internet
here is where i stop, any ideas?
    any help is appreciated!

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
At a wager, I'll guess that the landscape are the only one's affected as your wife has renamed folders in the Modified folder, and these pics have been auto-rotated. The reason you're catching glimpses of the pics is because they are cached images. In doesn't really matter, in any event, as if you want to use iPhoto you will first have to recreate the library.
Remember: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
iPhoto is not an image viewer, it's a photo organiser, that is a database. Like any database it requires you to manipulate the data - in this case your pictures - within the app and not via a back door such as the Finder. The good news is that everything you need to do can be done via the iPhoto Window - including adding descriptions to folders names.
If you bear this in mind, iPhoto will work very reliably.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
My guess is that you want to apply descriptions to folders to make it easier to find specific pics? There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Then there's rolls. Every import you make creates a roll folder in the iPhoto Library Folder / Originals Folder. In the iPhoto Window switch to Rolls View (View -> Film Rolls). This corresponds exactly to the roll folders. You can move pics between rolls, create rolls, edit them, rename them - as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the info pane - the little 'i' button, lower left. The Name and Date fields are editable. Edit the name in the iPhoto Window and it will be changed in the Finder too. Plus you get the opportunity to name a roll on import too.
So: There's your folders with you descriptive names, there's how to get to a pic from the iPhoto Window.
And, yes, I'm sorry you'll have to re=rate your pics.
Always with iPhoto: Whatever you want to do can be - and must be - done via the iPhoto Window.
Canon cameras, specifically, do not appear on the Mac desktop. It's a characteristic of that brand. Workarounds include using a USB card reader.
By all means post again if you need more help.

  • Cannot see Windows Computer on IMAC

I have an issue and can use some help.
I have a PC running Vista on my home network. Netgear Wireless Router, connect to Comcast.  Just received my MAC and want to mount a share from the Windows PC to the MAC.
Mac does not see the PC or the share.  I have issued the SMB://192.168.1.xx  and nothing.  Both PC and MAC are on the same network.  I have verified I have have File Sharing turned on in Network Discovery center (PC).
Has anyone else had this problem?

Take a look at this article, which has some additional information about windows file sharing:

I have tried downloading e-cards containing animation.   However, I only get the audio.

    Rita, welcome to the forum.
It sounds like you need to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.  This is what normally causes the problem that you are experiencing.

  • After scanning a picture, I cannot find it on my iMac.

After scanning a picture i cannot find it on my iMac. the scanner says it was sent and to check my computer screen.

Thanks, Tom.  As you can see, I was spelling it incorrectly!  Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
Actually, I am interested in getting better with some command line work, although I have to admit I'm tremendously rusty.  My last work with Unix was > 10 years ago.
    Appreciate the reply.
By the way, I'll also consider Carbon Copy Cloner.  Looks like a great program for point-and-click folks like me.

  • I cannot see my MBP (Lion) from iMac (Leopard)

We have a suite of iMacs in our office, and I've never had a problem before finding my laptop (MBP) from those iMacs.  However, since buying a new MBP (Lion) a few months ago, I cannot see the computer listed.  I can connect by typing in the afp:// location, but this seems like more hassle than it should be.  I am also unable to see the iMacs (most are 10.5.8) from my MBP.  Can anybody tell me what I might be doing incorrectly?  File sharing is turned on.  Thanks.

I assume you are using a mini-displayport/thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.
Did you set the TV to take its input from the HDMI connection?
Since you don't see the Arrangment tab in your Displays preferences there's probably something physically wrong with your connections.  Try clicking detect displays just to see if the computer can now sense the presence of the connection.  Check your cables and make sure the mini-displayport plug is pushed firmly in.  Mini-displayport plugs can be a little tricky in that you need to make sure the plug is fully seated in their socket.
Once you have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the TV's Displays preferences on to your main screen if the TV is not yet showing an image.  Set the proper resolution (probably 720p, 1080i, or 1080p).  Set the refresh rate (probably 60Hz) if that preference is shown.  You should see a picture at this point.  I  recommend turning off mirrored displays if it is enabled.
You may have to play with the underscan/overscan settings on your TV and the displays prefs for the TV if the picture is too small or larger for the TV screen.

  • I upgraded to iOS8 on my iphone and now cannot see the thumbnails of my pictures when I try to download onto my computer.

I have an iphone 4 and an HP Pavillion with windows 7.  I always have been able to connect my iphone to my laptop and open
the DCIM folder and see the picture icons so I can pick the ones I want to download.  After upgrading to iOS8 I cannot see the icons after a
few seconds of connecting the phone to the computer.  They all turn into the windows icon.
I do not want to try the icloud for windows control panel unless I can pick the pictures that will be transferred.  I don't want all the pictures I take on my computer.
