Cannot see thumbnails of PEF in bridge

I just installed PSE 8 for Mac on my iMac. When using bridge CS4 that installed with it, I can open my Pentax RAW files, but I cannot see thumbnails prior to that. I just see the PEF icon. Is there an update that didn't install? As it is, it's nearly useless.

Just a heads-up for others who might read this... I recently installed PS CS5, Lightroom 3, and ACR. At first when I opened Bridge or Lightroom I was not seeing thumbnails for my pentax .PEF files. Then I went to adobe updates and got the latest ACR plugin update, and it included my camera, Pentax K-5. That was the missing step and now thumbnails show up in all adobe views of my photos. They still don't show in Windows but that's fine.

Cannot see thumbnails in KM!!

Hi, I'm using EP 7 SP11
In some KM folders, after I've enabled the folder's thumbnail presentation, I can see some thumbnails and I cannot see some others (in this case, instead seeing the thumbnail, I only see the pic with the red cross, you know, that pic when a file is missing).
I checked the KM configuration about the Thumbnail repository, and the plugin, and they seem to be correct to me (The picture's formats are corrects too: jpg and gif).
Beside that, I've uploaded new jpg and gif pictures, but I see the same red cross... Is there any task scheduler to update the thumbnails every time I change one of them??
Could anybody please help me??

well, Maximum file size to generate thumbnail is setted (by default) at 8000 kByte, so I think that is not the problem.
I am doing tests with the thumbnail environment, so I am who is uploading and (hopefully) seeing the thumbnails on the folder. I have super admin role, and the test folder is setted with Everyone group and myself user as Full Control. So I suspect that is not the problem either.
I've explored the thumbnail repository using webfolders looking for the thumbnails, but there are neither images nor files inside it, only some empty subfolders.
Do you have another idea........?
Because I am running out of them!!

Cannot see thumbnails in Organize view in iPhoto 4

When I download new photos or look at one of my saved rolls, the pictures are all there but I cannot see them in the thumbnail view, only one at a time, so I cannot organize them into albums. This has happened since last October--prior to that, the thumbnails were there. Did I mess something up in another folder somewhere?

Hi, crablady, and welcome to Apple Discussions. It's very unlikely that you've caused your problem by meddling with any "other" folder. But if, back in October, you meddled with the contents of the iPhoto Library folder inside your Pictures folder when the iPhoto application wasn't open, that explains your problem.
Hold down the Shift and Option keys while starting iPhoto, and keep holding them down until you're asked whether you want to rebuild the library. Click "Yes", then click "Save".
This will create a new, rebuilt iPhoto Library_1 folder inside your Pictures folder. If it opens up properly in iPhoto, displaying things as you expect it to, you can trash the Original iPhoto Library folder and empty the trash to recover storage space. If the new library isn't right either, trash it instead of the original iPhoto Library folder, and post back here for further advice.
When iPhoto isn't running, it expects you to leave the contents of your iPhoto Library folder strictly alone. Everything in that folder is arranged precisely the way iPhoto needs it to be arranged, and any disturbance in there will throw things out of whack.

I cannot see thumbnails in iPhoto, only see dashes in the shape of the thumbnail

When I open Iphoto I do not see any thumbnails, only dashes surrounding the area where the thumbnails usually are. In Events I only see a dark grey square that appears to be raised, but no thumbnails. If I click on the blank I can see the photo. Have restored from Time Machine two times with the help of Apple Care rep. Still no thumbnails, can you help me?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take three or four goes to work.

Cannot see raw files anymore on Bridge.

My Bridge CS4 now refuses to show thumbnails of my raw files. I recently installed Snow Leopard on my imac. I also have bridge CS5 and that has the same problem. The 2 areas where raw files are mentioned are greyed out. Please help.

No, you don't.
1.— First of all, you need to nuke those two utterly superfluous aliases at once! They'll just confuse the application(s).
Why on Earth would you create those two aliases in the first place? That's just insane!
If you want to place an alias of an application on the Dock, all you have to do is drag the actual, original application icon (not its folder) to the Dock. The Dock will automatically create an icon (alias) of the application in the Dock itself, and the original icon you dragged will automatically snap back to its original, rightful location.
2.— Secondly, of course you do have to click on the Repair and/or Update buttons to fix the mess you made.
It may take a while for the cache to rebuild, be patient. It's not the computer's fault.
When all that's done, launch Apple's Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.

Cannot see thumbnails or open pictures (even though info is listed)

Recently converted to iMac from PC. Generally very happy with Mac. Last pm, was burning CD's of photos. One month/event (2007-09) had more photos than could fit on one CD (even though only 640 MD listed in folder when burning a CD more MB's seem to be "created" and it was over 700 MB). Used iPhoto command to split event/month in two so could burn two separate CD's. Changed the name of each folder (i.e. 2007-09 a and b) then burned the CD's. Then used iPhoto command to merge folders back to one and changed name back to original name: 2007-09). Everything seemed fine until this AM when we opened iPhoto. The 2007-09 folder listed that it had all 272 pictures and 604MB's under information but no pictures could be seen on the event folder or when looking under photos. Each picture listed all the correct info but no image can be seen and when picture is opened it just showed a grey circle with "!"
I was able to restore the photos from the last saved group from last pm using browse backups/time machine. However, I assume that somehow the actual picture files or pathway was corrupted from the steps I used last pm when trying to set things up to burn a CD. In many years of Windows PC picture and PICASA program use, something like this never happened. While the ability to restore using Time Machine was great and cool, it is very concerning that our original pictures could so easily be "lost" and I assume this represents some flaw in the iPhoto program.
Did I do something wrong or is there a flaw in iPhoto that easily leads to file corruption? How do I prevent this from happening again?

So how (and where) did you do this?
Each picture listed all the correct info but no image can be seen and when picture is opened it just showed a grey circle with "!"
The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents. And yes, the most common way to do this is to change the path to the file, or rename some element in the path.
The pics should be safe and sound in the iPhoto Package File.

I cannot see my photos in iphoto library - I tried to restore with Time Machine and that doubled the number of photos (copies) but I still cannot see the images - the events are there but no thumbnails although the number of pics per event is correct...

Can someone help me see my pictures again in iphoto? 3 weeks ago while uploading a video from iphoto to Facebook, my events thumbnails all disappeared and were replaced by black squares - the event names and number of pics in each remain but when I click on the event, I only get squares where the pics should be - when I click those squares, I get a square with a triangle and an exclamation mark in middle.
Apple had emailed me about defective disks in iMacs so I took mine to the Apple Store and they replaced my HD then reinstalled from my backup via Time Machine - I still cannot see my pics! I tried to reinstall from an earlier Time Machine date - that copied everything and now my HD has double the amount of data but I still cannot see my pictures!
I would be thankful for any guidance on how to retrieve my pictures...

iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

I imported photos from an old iPhoto (2001) to photo library and can now see them as thumbnails but not when I click on them. The screen is black cannot see or print either. Is there any way to salvage those old photos? I now use iLife09. OS 10.6

Did you import the old iPhoto library into the new one? That's not what you want to do because you will import all of the original, modified and thumbnail files as if they were original files. Lots of duplicates and useless small photos.
Do you have a backup copy of the library that you imported into to? If you do then bring it in and then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new, 3rd library.
If you don't then you'll have to try to fix the current one and then cull out the duplicates and small useless photos as follows: make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If this doesn't fix the problem you'll have to start over from scratch and create a new library from the files inside the Originals folder of your current library. But first you should cull out the small photos that would be the thumbnails from the 2001 library.
Move the Originals folder to the Desktop, open and do a search for Kind=photo, File size is less than 10 KB. That should find all of the thumbnail files which you can then drag to the Trash. You might have to make that less than 50 KB. Then Import the remaining photos into a new iPhoto library.

Cannot see Bridge folder on BlackBerry's SD Card in PlayBook Bridge Files

I have learned that when downloading a file through the messages app on the PB, the file is stored in /Media Card/BlackBerry/documents/Bridge. These files are accessible on the BB through the email the attachment came in. However, I cannot access these files directly through the Bridge Files app as I cannot see the Bridge folder on my SD card. However, if I download an attachment from my BB and select Store on Media Card, it is stored in /Media Card/BlackBerry/documents/ and is fully accessible from the PB.
Any ideas why I cannot see the Bridge folder from the PB? Is that by design? I know it is hidden by default, but I make it visible so it shows in the BB's Files app. If I rename the folder to Bridge2, it is fully accessible on the PB and subsequently loaded documents are in a newly-created Bridge folder, which is again hidden by default.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this. The linked support article addresses the issue directly (thank you both), but the method recommended there (importing the entire AVCHD folder structure) didn't solve the problem. The small number of videos that iPhoto could not see originally also did not get imported, though the ones that it could originally see, did. Luckily since the percentage seems to be small (~10%), it is not prohibitive to open them one by one in Quicktime, re-export them, and then import them into iPhoto. Hopefully this will be fixed in the future. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I upgraded to iOS8 on my iphone and now cannot see the thumbnails of my pictures when I try to download onto my computer.

I have an iphone 4 and an HP Pavillion with windows 7. I always have been able to connect my iphone to my laptop and open
the DCIM folder and see the picture icons so I can pick the ones I want to download. After upgrading to iOS8 I cannot see the icons after a
few seconds of connecting the phone to the computer. They all turn into the windows icon.
I do not want to try the icloud for windows control panel unless I can pick the pictures that will be transferred. I don't want all the pictures I take on my computer.

If you dig really deeply (10 levels down!) in your Library folder you will find the templates for the new Bridge Galleries. You can also use the Lightroom templates in Bridge CS4.
Library/Applications Support/Adobe/Bridge CS4 Extensions/Adobe output Module/mediagallery/resources/templates/07lightroomgallery/styles
I duplicated one of the enclosed Styles and dragged it to the Desktop;
opened it in GoLive (because I like the way that GL displays html code although any text editor will do);
edited the code to give me the background colors, text and image frames that I wanted; and Saved the file with a new but similar name (starting with next two digits in the series and with the .xml suffix) in the same location as the original.
And it works!
You may be able to put your existing templates in the appropriate areas.
Or, you could install the Optional Plug-ins which let you use the Photoshop/File/Automate
web galleries and put your old templates wherever you kept them for CS3.
WARNING:
You should be perfectly safe doing this but if you screw-up CS4 and have to re-install it I accept no responsibility!!!!!!!

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.

In case you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.
