Cannot see time capsule on Airport Utility (Vista Home)

Hi I have a new Time Capsule. Have set up Airport Utility on Windows Vista Home Premium. But I cannot find the time capsule on the airport utility. I tried restarting, rescanning. Help!!!!!!!

Ok.. You don't need to use the airport utility then.. it is irrelevant if the windows computer can see it or not in the utility.
What is AC?
The new TC is AC wireless.
Open Windows Explorer.. type
\\TCIPaddress into the address bar. where you replace that that with the actual IP address.
eg \\10.0.1.1
It should show up.. If it fails, then turn off the vista firewall.. and open a command prompt and ping the TC by name and IP address.
Note names like Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule.. are useless for windows.
You need SMB compatible names.. eg TCgen5
Wireless also should be TCwifi for example.
Short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Once you do that does the TC disk show in the Vista computer??
It must respond to pings.. make sure windows hasn't changed the computer from home to work or public network.. windows can do that spontaneously because it was full moon.

  • Macbook can't see time capsule through airport utility; powerbook can.

This question probably applies to Airport Extremes as well as Time Capsules, but I happened to see it with a new TC.
My Time Capsule came in yesterday. My plan was to bridge it into my existing network to serve 802.11n over 5ghz. I did the initial setup using a 12" powerbook and it worked fine. I set the Time Capsule in bridge mode and for 802.11n 5ghz, plugged it into my network, and reset. The light on the TC turned green and all looked like it was working. At least, until I tried to connect through my Macbook Pro.
I installed the Airport Utility software that came with the TC, rebooted, then launched Airport Utility -- and it couldn't find any devices. It can, however, see the Airport's wireless network. After a reboot of the TC, it can also connect to the Airport's wireless network. I can get to the internet and the local network, but cannot see the Airport through Airport Utility and cannot see the Time Capsule disk. It's as if Bonjour is being blocked between my laptop and the Airport. This happens whether I'm connected to the TC wirelessly or wired.
I've tried restoring to factory defaults and starting over (I still can't see the TC, even after a hard reset) and I've tried a hard reset of the TC (I had to, actually -- it hung during startup several times). In each case, the powerbook can see it, but the macbook can't. I'm out of things to try. If I can't get this resolved soon, I'm going to have to return the TC, since it's useless if I can't access the disk.
I was planning on upgrading the two computers to Leopard over the weekend, then use the TC for Time Machine for both computers, but if it's not working for Tiger I'm worried that it won't work for Leopard, either.
Is there any variable anyone knows of that blocks a computer from seeing an base station through the Airport Utility? A non-obvious firewall setting, perhaps, or something that could be blocking Bonjour? Does Airport detection even use Bonjour, or am I on the wrong track?
    Thanks

An update: I can see the Airport configuration of the TC through my Macbook if I pick File->Configure Other... on the Airport Utility, and then put in the IP address. Which leads me to believe that it's a Bonjour issue, but I haven't figured out more than that.
Of course, the TC is still useless for Time Machine if I can't get to the disk, so the problem remains.

  • Cannot see Time Capsule for backup but internet perfect A

I've seen other posts about time capsule problems and most talk about wireless dropout and loss of internet connectivity. My situation is almost the reverse:
Full airport strength in menu bar. Full access to internet sites on at least one computer. Cannot see Time Capsule via Airport Utility or in Finder on any computer. Time Machine backups fail (marked as Delayed in menu bar item).
If I reboot (via unplugging) the Time Capsule, it shows up again in Airport Utility and backups are successful. This has happened three times now. I think the first time was prior to upgrading the firmware. The second two times were after the Time Capsule firmware upgrade. In the second two instances, it looks like the backups run for about 12-13 hours, every hour. No problems. Then, they drop out. Yesterday, it ran from 8:30 AM until 9 PM.
I've got two Macs (a Powerbook G4 and a MacBook Pro), each running latest software updates (security, 10.5.2, etc.).
Unplugging (rebooting) my Time Capsule each day is not an option. That's partly why I moved from an ancient LinkSys router that always needed to be rebooted since we lost local and internet access. Any help is much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Drew

Have you set up the TC with user accounts??
Most people just use the TC password..
I have done very little with user accounts on the TC.. it seems fundamentally wrong headed to me.. If you have a domain controller with everyone using accounts to login that is fine.. and the TC would then exist in connection to the domain controller.. but it is a home device and there is no function to all that.
What will happen if you change over to standard security or even turn on the guest account I am too scared to suggest as you may not easily get connection back again.. The TC certainly displays a warning going to accounts.. I am not sure of warnings going away from accounts.
If you didn't setup the TC, do you have admin access to it??
Perhaps I am assuming too much before you tell me everything. But I may suggest things you don't want to try.. unfortunately I cannot say this will work.. the issue is widespread across the Mountain Lion TC combo and I have yet to see Apple suggest a solution or even fess up there is a problem. Daily reboots are just simply now a part of the scene for all windows and Mac users.
Is the TC the main router for the network.. 1 hour is not default lease in the TC and very few people even know how to change it.. standard is 1day. I would consider 1hr adequately short for all arp tables to be kept up to date.. the computer should be seeking new lease at 30min.. ie half lease time.
If the TC is bridged an not controlling the network.. that can contribute to the issue.
Setting a static IP on the TC if it is bridged my help.

  • Windows Vista cannot see Time Capsule

I had a network setup via Time Capsule with iMac, Macbook Pro and PC running Vista Business. I have lost internet connectivity on the PC and Airport utility cannot see Time Capsule. The PC is connected to Time Capsule via etherenet. How can I fix this?

ONE PROBLEM THOUGH. I believe ONLY PROFESSIONAL versions of windows have the local policies acceptable. This means all of us using HOME editions are screwed.
Home Edition users would have to perform a Registry edit as follows:
    1. Open registry editor (ref: Start > Search > Enter: regedit)
    2. Browse to HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME = LmCompatibilityLevel & VALUE = 1
    4. Restart your PC and try the connection again...

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:

  • How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine

How do I connect to Time Capsule from a Windows 8.1 machine which is on a Windows domain. I have been able to connect from a Windows 7 machine on a Windows domain to a Time Capsule. Airport utility is not displaying the Time Capsule Win8.1 machine.
I have checked that the firmware has been updated to 7.6.4 . Similalrly the Win8.1 machine has been loaded with the update specified in another discussion.

Firstly how are you connecting to the TC.. wireless or ethernet?
Please open a command window and ping it.. ping by name and by IP address.
If ping succeeds at least by IP it should work.
    In windows explorer type
\\10.0.1.1 (or whatever the TC ip is.. that is the default).
Having the airport utility for windows loaded can help the process. As it loads bonjour for windows.
7.6.4 firmware on the TC is useless. It works better on 7.6.1
If the ping does not succeed by either name or IP address yet you have internet through the TC, then your network is setup wrongly. You are have firewalls blocking local IP. Take down all the firewalls.

I can no longer access my Airport Express Base Station. When I plug it in, it keeps flashing orange. I cannot see it in the Airport Utility.
    How do I fix this

If you're comfortable resetting all settings, unplug it, hold down the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug it back in - keep holding it for another 10-20s until the amber light flashes
Then, open airport utility, now you should be able to see the device either on-screen or in the upper left under 'other wi-fi devices'

  • Parallels Win7 - Airport Utility cannot see Time Capsule

Running Win7 as virtual machine on Mac using Parallels 5.0. Mac can see fully functioning time capsule but when I switch to Win7 virtual machine, airport utility will briefly see time capsule and then it disappears completely. Same happens with using bonjour printer wizard when the HP Laserjet connected via USB to the time capusle will first appear and then disappear after 5-8 seconds. Searched help forums and have not found a solution, and welcome any help please. Internet access via time capsule on Win7 virtual machine not a problem at all.

  • Help - G4 cannot see Time Capsule on Powerup

    Hi,
I have one computer - an old G4, an iPhone and a PS3 connected to my Time Capsule (bought in May).
    -G4 is connected by Ethernet
    -PS3 and iPhone wirelessly
I usually put my G4 to sleep, and wake it, and everything's fine.
Twice now, the power has gone out, and when it comes back, the Time Capsule is green, and the PS3 and iPhone can see it. I boot the G4, and it cannot see it. The G4 also shows a date in 1969 (does that indicate other issues?).
I have tried the following both times -
Resetting the Time Capsule with the pin - does not work
Unplugging and resetting the time capsule with pin - does not work
Rebooting the computer and clearing out the PRAM - does not work
Changing the date to after 2001 on the clock, - no help
Of course, now that I've reset the time capsule, I can't configure it again and have lost the wireless connection.
Last time I eventually got it to work - but it seemed random as to how. I'm frustrated, and I would like any advice possible. I hope it's the computer and not the Time Capsule. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

    Now I'm getting really annoyed.
Went to see the mac genius today at the Apple store. Saw it wirelessly no problem.
Saw it via Ethernet no problem. When I got him to check that there was a file on the hard drive he did it wirelessly though.
Told me Time Capsule was fine (and I believe him). Told me to take it home, create a second ethernet connection, and trash preferences for "System Configuration" if necessary. Did all that, booted, found the Time Capsule no problem.
Thought my problem was solved, but was it?
Turned off the computer, turned it on a few hours later - will not see Time Capsule, Airport will not recognize it AGAIN. Tried trashing preferences and rebooting - it doesn't work.
I'm able to connect the ethernet cable directly to the DSL modem and use PPPOE, it's fine.
I don't get it. What else can I do?

  • Windows 7 computer will not find Time Capsule using Airport Utility.

I have a wireless network already setup.  However, I have bought the Time Capsule to put in my home office, where it is acting as a hub to get access to three different printers.  I have already setup our iMac and Macbook to get access, and they work fine.  however, the Windows 7 laptop just does not even find the Time Capsule.  I have updated the Airport Utility software, rebooted the time capsule, and even tried connecting directly using an ethernet cable, and nothing.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for trying to help me out, but, I have solved the issue on my own.  The issue is, firewalls.  if you have windows firewall, or any other firewall installed it blocks the communication.  I simply turned off the firewall, it recognized the time capsule, I configured it, and then turned the firewall back on, and it kept the connection because the port was now open.  All is good now.

  • Can not see my time capsule in airport utility

I was trying to add a password so my time capsule could access ATT for internet and during the process it disappeared from the airport utility on my MAC?
I've tried resetting both devices, but it won't come back to the utility so I can configure it.  Rescanned several times.

Remove any other connection to the TC except one computer by ethernet. Press the reset again, and hold it for 10sec and wait for the TC to restart.
Restart the airport utility. If it fails to find the TC try plugging it into a different computer.
If the issue follows the TC take it to Apple Genius to be checked.

  • Trying to set-up my time capsule. Airport utility unable to scan

    Hello!
Would a kind soul please be genorous enough to alert me to what I may be doing wrong?
I am not technically savvy but aspire to be and when I can't seem to do the simplest of tasks it makes me what to nash my teeth and beat my forehead to a bloody pulp while repeating "stupid, stupid" ad nausem.
ANYWAY, work wirelessly and have my time capsule pulled in with green light glowing BUT when I try to configure time machine, Airport Utility comes back with the message that it was unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I rescan and rescan to no avail.
PLEASE any advice might just save me from slipping over the brink into insanity.
    MANY THANKS!

What OS are you running on the computer??
I recommend you connect the TC directly to a computer via ethernet.. No other connections and turn wireless off.. if Airport Utility cannot find the TC press the reset button for around 10-15sec until it begins flashing rapidly.. then try the setup again. Once you have the setup running properly using manual setup, go to the wireless settings and manually set everything.. wireless name.. no spaces, no special characters, give a different name to 5ghz so you can connect to either.. set 2.4ghz to one of the three available channels, 1, 6, 11 (unless you live outside USA where 12, 13 are also allowed). The rest overlap so don't bother. Set also manual channel for 5ghz. Make sure you set wpa2 personal security again with pure alphanumeric password, no spaces.
Then see if wireless will connect.. but do the first backup by ethernet anyway.
This doesn't apply if you only have MBA which doesn't have ethernet.

i want to do the same. i tried entering my @me.com account and does not work, but if I tried to go to icloud.com and using my @me.com works

  • New to Time Capsule and Airport Utility App not current...

I just received a Time Capsule for Christmas with the main purpose being to back up photos from my Mac and iPhone. When trying to install the Time Capsule I get this message:
"This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this AirPort wireless device and might improperly configure the device if you continue to use it. Check www.apple.com/support/airport for the latest version of AirPort Utility."
My Airport Utility app is version is 5.6.1
I've looked for a more recent update but it doesn't appear there is one.
Is there a more recent update? Do I need it to proceed?

You must use a Mac with Lion at least, and the latest v6 airport utility available for it.. You cannot use Snow Leopard. You cannot use windows.
The alternative is to use iOS version of the utility which you can download to iphone ipad.

  • Pc cannot see time capsule on network

I have a PC running windows 8.1 it connects to the internet just fine through the time capsule, but it does not recognize it in network places. Although the other PCs in my windows homegroup and my Mac do. I ran the networking trouble shooter in Windows and it does not detect a problem.  Any suggestions of what I can do next?

Load the airport utility for windows .. 5.6.1 onto the computer.. it can be a bit difficult as it is now getting old. Apple are being lazy or deliberately recalcitrant about windows. Since this utility is not even up to configuring the newest airports.
But it has bonjour for windows and a disk agent that makes things easier.
Make sure the windows computer is set to home as network location.. not work.. not public.
Ping the TC in a command window. If it fails to respond turn off the firewall. Keep changing things. because it will never work whilst ping is unresponsive.
Once ping responds. See if you can access it by directly typing the name into address bar.
    \\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If your TC has one of those long Apple names.. which is not compliant with windows networking.. (albeit the other PC works it will not work 100%, use the IP address).
