Cannot select airplay speakers

I am trying to select a different AirPlay speaker in iTunes. When I click on the small icon in the right hand bottom corner of the iTunes window all my different AirPlay speakers do show. When I click on on of htem nothing happens and the "Computer" speaker stays selected. When I click on multiple speakers the window with the speaker selection shows and I can click on all the speakers but the click does not "stick". The Compute speaker stays as the selected speaker.
When I do the same thing from a different Mac it works nicely as expected. It is just my desktop - where I happen to have my whole library stored - where it does not work anymore. It has worked before and I do not know what happened.
Please help to restore this important feature.

I couldn't get mine to work so I went into Itunes Edit/preferences in "general" checked the items I wanted playing back ie films etc then in "sharing" I checked the music box and also clicked share selected libraries instead of entire library and also changed the preferred video version to 720p (it was set on 1080p), then in "store" I clicked download at 720p as mine is the 2G apple tv which operates at 720p (the latest is 1080p).  Then it all started to work so I don't know really what I did but it's now fine.  Best of luck

  • Cannot select Airplay Device for Output Audio

I can't select my chosen AirPlay device for Output Device. It shows up as one of the options in the Sound System Preference, the Sound Selector in the Menu Bar or the AirPlay selector in iTunes (version 11.0.1). But, when I select it, it automatically re-selects the built-in speakers. Rebooting is the only way to restore this functionality. Even then, it seems to work for a time, then quits working. This problem has been reported elsewhere with no resolution that I'm aware of. Any ideas?

Every get an answer to this?

  • Airtunes issues - Cannot select Remote Speakers

I bought a new MacBook and am running Mac OS X (10.5.7) and using iTunes 8.2.
Previously I was able to play music through my remote speakers connected to my airport express using airtunes. With my new laptop, iTunes shows my speakers but they are greyed out and I can't actually select them. I can only select "Computer"
My iTunes preferences does have "Look for remote speakers connected with Air Tunes" selected.
Any ideas why it shows the speakers/base station but is greyed out and I can't select them?

I'm having the same problem with a G4 laptop running 10.4.11 and iTunes 8.2. I've tried random stuff like reconnecting the speakers to the Airport Express, restarting iTunes, renaming my airtunes speakers, etc. Some of this is obviously just desperate attempts to feel productive. If anyone can help figure out why I can see the name of the speakers on the menu in iTunes, but can't select them (they're grayed out) - I'd be stoked.

In case anyone has had the same problem as me, I have just managed to fix this by doing the following:
    Switch off Mac
Switch back on in Safe Mode (Hit power button, then hold Shift key until a loading bar appears at the bottom of the screen).
    Switch off Mac again
Remove power cord and wait 15 seconds
Plug power cord back in and hold down the keys alt, cmd, p, r all at the same time until you hear Starting chime for a second time and hopefully your audio will back.

  • How can I switch on my Apple TV speakers when it asks "multiple speakers" I cannot switch off my computer speakers and switch on my Apple TV speakers so cannot get airplay to work?

How can I get my Apple TV airplay to work from my PC.  On the airplay symbol it says Multiple Peakers please choose but I cannot switch off my computer speakers and switch on my Apple TV speakers so cannot get airplay to work from my PC.  Everything is OK when using my Ipod touch.

Don't use Multiple Speakers option and just choose the AppleTV
What are you trying to Airplay? If it's iTunes content it's simpler to 'pull' the stream from the Computers icson on AppleTV by selecting the libarry and media.
If you are attempting to Airplay the desktop you can't.

  • AirPlay Output Cannot Select

    Hi,
I purchased a Bose wifi speaker. When I leave work and come back I cannot select my speaker using AirPlay. I see my speaker name available for AirPlay output, however, every time I select the speaker it automatically goes back to my built-in speakers.  I have to restart my system in order to select the external speaker for AirPlay.

    Hello Hornet12,
Indeed, iTunes 10.2 or later will be required to utilize AirPlay.

  • When using apple remote app on ipad or iphone to control apple TV is there a way of selecting different airplay speakers?

When using apple remote on ipdad or iphone to control apple TV is there a way to select different airplay speakers without having to control the menu on screen. Eg I want to listed to my music through apple tv (which is in the living room)  and beam it to my airplay speakers in my bedroom, at the moment I would have to go back into the living room to see my tv screen to select the bedroom airplay speakers, then go back upstairs to listen to the music. YOu should be able to select the speakers in app without looking at the TV screen. Hopefully that makes sense!?!

    Look at this.

  • Airplay mirroring and airplay speakers

I would like to set up airplay mirroring so that audio gets directed to my airplay speakers and the images to the TV.
    LIke this:
    iPhone-->ATV-->Airplay speakers
I can airplay audio through the phone directly to the speakers, and I can also select speakers on the ATV and airplay audio from ATV apps directly to those speakers.. I can also airplay audio only from the iPhone through the ATV to the speakers, as long as I'm not mirroring.
However when I turn on mirroring, the audio always goes right to the TV and not to the speakers. I was told that what I'm trying do cannot be done with Mirroring. Is this right? Has anyone got this setup to work?
Would be nice if I can stream shows from a browser to the ATV and then audio to the Airplay speakers. So far I have not been able to get that to work.
    Help or advice appreciated, thanks!
    Sam

For what it's worth, I managed a workaround with VLC and Airfoil to mirror a video to Apple TV and send the audio to AirPlay speakers.   However, there's still the 2 second delay issue for most other sources, like Chrome and games.
It seems what's missing is a way on the Apple TV to redirect the audio to an AirPlay source while mirroring (holding down select does nothing in this mode, unlike Netflix or Movies where it brings up a source selection menu).  It would be SO COOL if this was implemented in a future ATV update - for all of us with projectors out there.

  • Can't connect to airplay speakers from iTunes

I suddenly can't connect to airplay speakers from iTunes on my new Macbook Pro - they are visible but cannot be selected. I can connect to them from other Macs and iPads. Can anyone help, pls? I have set the whole network up several times, rebooted system ie.

I had this happen to me on the odd occasion but now have it sorted. If I'm going to use my Airport Epress(s) I first make sure that my PC is connecting to the AE before I even turn on iTunes.
A problem I was having was that my PC was connecting to my wireless router by default (specifically when my laptop was turned off) and not to the AE. As a consequence when iTunes started it greyed out the remote speakers and sometimes the button was not even showing up.
Now that I ensure my PC is talking to the AE everytime I do not have a problem.
I do have one annoying thing with the AE setup though, if I'm playing music over the AE and I unplug any USB device (printer, USB Key, External drive etc) the wireless connection is broken and I have to start iTunes. I suspect it is a hardware issue relating to my particular HP PC as I have just reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP and it still happens. I can live with it.

  • HT5517 How can I adjust sound level when streaming radio from my Apple TV through Airplay speakers?

I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV with an airport express set up as airplay speakers.  I can stream the new radio through using the Airplay speakers pretty well.  The problem is that once I've got it going, I cannot adjust the sound level without laboriously backing out of the radio menu, going back to the top level menu then drilling down into the Airplay settings to raise or lower the speaker's sound level.
Is there an easier way to do this?

go to system preferences > Sound > Output. then change the output from "built-in" to HDMI.

Can i play different songs to different airplay speakers at the same time ?
I know you can select the different speakers to play the music to, but wondered if you can also push different music to different speakers at the same time ?
If not is there a way around this other than going for something like Sonos ?

  • AirPlay Speakers drop off iTunes list - help!

My 4 AirPlay speakers (Bose, JBL, iHome) have worked fine connected by wi-fi to my Netgear WNDR4000 router. I play from iTunes, and also sometimes stream radio directly from my iPhone or iPad.
I have had some issues with poor wi-fi coverage, so yesterday I up graded to a high end Wireless Access Point, the EnGenius EAP-1750h. This is a 802.1ac dual band high power device - the signal strength is amazing. I have turned off wi-fi on my router completely, and am using the access point for wi-fi connections.
The issue I am having is that the AIrPlay devices are falling off iTunes after a variable time (minutes to hours). If I click on them in the iTunes airplay list, they disappear and I cannot connect to them. At the same time, the "connected devices"  lists of the access point and the router show that the speakers are still connected. There is NO issue with internet access on any devices. REBOOTING THE ACCESS POINT BRINGS THE DEVICES BACK, until they drop off again.
I am thinking that perhaps there is a bonjour port that keeps track of the devices that is not making it from the WAP to the router or something - and Apple in its wisdom makes it really hard to find out such info. I am an experienced user, and do not have any gross mistakes in my device configuration; I have read the relevant Apple support documents. I am not an IT tech, however, and I am not familiar with some the advanced settings, particularly of the WAP, which is a high-end business-oriented device.
All the AirPlay devices are connected on the 2.4Ghz network. The base PC is hardwired by Ethernet to the router. Turning off the 5Ghz band completely and using only a single 2.4Ghz network does not help. All software and firmware of all devices is up to date.
Does this ring any bell to anyone? I sthere a setting that will fix this?  I love the WAP, but I will have to bring it back if I can't get AirPlay to work! I'm sure it is not a hardware defect issue - it is an Apple AirPlay configuration issue - that's why I am posting here. Help appreciated!!

Recreating the speakers didn't work for me. I am not sure what the issue could be at this point. Any help would be apreaciated.
