Cannot select base station for iBookG4

I have tried to trouble shoot this for more than an hour and cannot do this simple step to get started on setting up Airport Extreme for the first time. Any suggestions for this luddite. Thank you.

I've checked the Airport Help notes for the 5th time re fixing the Airport Utility. The instructions don't match the options I actually have but I'm going to try one more thing. This means I need to disconnect from the Internet, so I will check for responses later. Hopefully, I will not mess up my existing DSL setting and be unable even to check back here. Thank you anyone.

  • No base stations showing up in Select Base Station window

    Stats:
Dual G5 PPC, Airport Extreme card, firmware v.404.2, OS X 10.4.6
White Airport Extreme Base Station, firmware v.6.3 using 128 bit WEP
    2 Airport Express base stations
I have an oddball thing going on with my AirPort Extreme Base Station. I have it hardwired via Ethernet to my Dual G5 PPC, but it doesn't show up in my Select Base Station window, nor do my other Airport Express base stations. On my satellite Macs, Airport Admin Utility shows all of the base stations. I can connect to any of these base stations from the G5 by manually entering their IP addresses, but this shouldn't be necessary. Also, when I do pull up the configuration window for the Extreme base station, there is no music option.
What's odd is that I have Internet and networking available on all my machines, so the Extreme is obviously talking to everything, but my G5 seems blind to it.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Can it be fixed?

Turns out a reboot fixed the problem. Never occurred to me because I've almost never rebooted this machine.

You don't have to do anything to the netgear.. the Express cannot wirelessly extend non-apple networks. You must plug the Express in by ethernet and create a new wireless network.. this can be the same name (SSID) and security as the netgear so it can become a roaming network.

I cannot select ok button for icloud backup popup stating "This ipad hasn't backed up in 8 weeks. Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi"

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • What is the best wireless base station for a clamshell?

i want to purchase a wireless base station for my clamshell but am unsure on which apple product to buy. do you recommend the airport extreme or just the original airport. i've heard from some people that the extreme doesnt' work that well.

The perks of the airport extreme base station are Wireless B/G/N compatibility as well as a USB port for sharing external harddrives, printers, etc.
Your ibook is only compatible with Wireless B networks, so there is no sense in paying for G/N compatibility unless you really need it. The same holds true for the USB port in my opinion. Unless you need it why pay for it.
The original airport base stations are cheaper, and they do exactly what you need them to do.
    That's my two cents

  • Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing.

Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing. Got a new DSL router yesterday. Our old one we did not have password protected. The new one is. I can't figure out how to get the base station to connect with the new router.

thanks for the reply,   I couldn't connect with the base station.  The solution (thank you apple genius bar) was to do a soft rest of the unit which allowed and ethernet connectiont to be established.  Took the genius bar gy about ten min (and 2 attempts) to get the base station reconfigured.  Got home and it worked like a charm.  Would have never known what he knew.  Thank you genius bar.  Thank you for taking time to respond.

  • I have a MacBook ProDo I have to have the Airport Extreme Base Station for my Airport Express to work?

I cannot get the darn Airport Express to work!  It just keeps blinking Amber.  I know it must be something silly I am over looking.  And I do not have the Airport Extreme Base Station.
    Thank you for any help!!!

    Thanks,
This is the rear of your modem/router:
Connect a Cat5e or Cat6 cable from any of the 4 Ethernet Lan ports to the (single) socket on the Express, then go to Airport Utility (Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility) and select create a new network.
You will need to turn the wireless transmiter in the Netgear off, here is a link to the Netgear Manual in case you need to refer to it.

  • Configuring base station for WDS

I have an airport express basestation that is physically connected to a ZOOM ADSL X6 wireless modem with built in router. I set this up 6 months ago and don't remember the details but everything seems to be working fine. I can get wireless access to the internet from my windows PC through the Zoom modem or through the airport express. However, I now want to add a couple of more airport express remote base stations but when I use my Airport admin utlity it doesn't recognize any basestations present. When I use the Airport Setup Assistant it recognizes the Airport Express (among other wireless hotspots that are around) and says "Select the Airport network you want to set up." When I do this it says "connect to xxx network" but finally gives me an error message that says
"Cannot connect to the network or there are no airport basestations on the network"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi.
I'm having the exact same problem as the originator of this post. The only difference is I am using an Airport Extreme (802.11g) and trying to use an Express upstairs as a bridge. I had this set up working fine until 10.5.7 was installed. Then the Express flaked out... probably because the Extreme was unable to be a WDS Main station anymore.
Some background... after having the issue of my wife's Macbook freezing after waking it from sleep I did some research on the forums here and found out that it had to do with the Ethernet not being turned on in the Network pref pane. The thread I looked at suggested trashing a bunch of network pref files and restarting... essentially defaulting the Mac OS to it's original networking state... which has the Ethernet port 'on' by default.
I wonder if this Ethernet bug in 10.5.7 is causing our WDS Main base stations (my Extreme and the author's Express - both plugged in to a high speed modem via Ethernet) to not accept the WDS Main status.
Duane, you pointed out that all the settings need to be identical... channel, password, encryption type, etc... but I never had a problem and Airport Utility always set these things up for me. That's what I expect from Apple gear.
Anyway, I'll try manually setting the thing up but I am pretty sure it's 10.5.7 that is causing the problem here.
    Thanks,
    Jon

  • How do I open the same ports on an Airport Extreme Base Station for multiple computers at the same time?

    As the title suggests...
I have a mix of five Mac and PC's at home using an Airport Extreme Base Station as the router.   I need many ports opened on the AEBS for all of the computers- not just one computer.  (for example: three people want to play TF2 on Steam at the same time; each machine needs the correct ports open on the router).   Port forwarding  only allows me to forward a given port to a single IP, yet I need that port open for five differnt IP's, all at the same time.
How do I do that on an AEBS?
In the same way, I have a small office of four iMacs using an old airport with the same exact issue.   I would like to be able to connect to all of them remotely with Apple Remote Desktop, but the port forwarding on the airport only allows a port to forward to a single IP.   I want to be able to tunnel into the office network and log onto any machine behind the Airport extreme... not just a single IP.    I currently have it set up where I can tunnel into the office from my house, I can find the one machine that the port forwarding has been assigned to, I can log on and everything is just fine... with one machine.    How do I open the firewall for the other machines?
TL,DR version:  How do you open ports on an Airport Extreme Base Station instead of forwarding ports?   Forwarding ports doesn't work for multiple IP's.

You can open a single or multiple ports to a single device or different ports to different devices, but you cannot open the same port to multiple devices via the AirPort Utility for the Apple routers.

  • Third Party base stations for airport express

Hi, I recently bought an AX, my question was answered earlier so I guess my doubt now is which third party products could act as base stations which can be recognized by the AX, which Linksys products (not too expensive) would you recommend? I thank you in advance for your attention.
    John

An Airport Express can act as a client (printing and AirTunes) with ANY wifi-certified 802.11b/g wireless router.
In terms of using an Airport Express to extend an existing wireless network, then I wouldn't recommend ANY third party router, I would use an Airport Extreme Base Station or another Airport Express.
It has been shown to work with
    - a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5)
    - a Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    - one specific model from SMC
    - one specific model from Buffalo
    - BT Voyager 2100
For wireless routers not on this short list - not possible.
In particular, it will not work with any WiFi routers from D-Link or Netgear.

  • Connecting to multiple Airport Express base stations for internet and TV?

I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single ethernet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be an ethernet splitter (maybe - any ideas?), getting a new ethernet connection installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
Is this possible? Are there other alternatives?
    Many thanks

Nate, Welcome to the discussion area!
Once you have a network, you can connect multiple AirPort Express (AX) to that network (wirelessly or via Ethernet). When your computer joins that network it can access all the AX.
You could take your current internet connection and run it into an inexpensive router with multiple Ethernet ports (not the AX). If this is a wireless router then your AXs could be located elsewhere and connect as wireless clients to that network. Once you computer joined that network it could stream music to the AXs.

  • Need some help settin' up an Airport base station for dialup

Afternoon, all. As the handle says, I'm a newbie and I need some LGI about setting up an Airport base station to dial out. I just got a Macbook 2.0 yesterday, and I'm still trying to deal with the setup. This model has the 10.5 OS.
The Airport I'm using is not the square unit now available. This particular unit is a circular base with a conical shape. I got this model because it has the connection for a standard telephone connector. It's also 'sposed to have a built-in modem.
I have gotten the computer to connect to the base station wirelessly, but I am having trouble setting things up to get the modem to dial out to my ISP (netscape.)
Any assistance or walk-throughs would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Hello newbietoapple. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Perform a "hard" reset of the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
    Setup the AEBS
Either connect to the AEBS's wireless network or connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Create a closed network (unchecked)
    o Wireless Security: Not enabled
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    o Connect Using: Modem (V.90)
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (checked)
o Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
