Cannot send email on my iPhone from my MobileMe account...help?

Every time I try to send a message in my MobileMe account on my iPhone 3G, this message pops up - "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.me.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars." I've checked the smtp to make sure it's correct, and I changed the Server Port to 587 as suggested by Apple. Is it something to do with the IMAP Path Prefix? This has been happening since I purchased my iPhone in February while it was running OS 2.0, and I have since upgraded to 3.0 and 3.0.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When using the MobileMe account preset to create the account, the SMTP server is created with 587 as the SMTP server port, which can't be changed when using the MM account preset to create the account.

You might be able to set up the SMTP server settings in Mail to authenticate with a password. That may get the email through.
In Mail Preferences, Accounts, select the account.
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu and select Edit SMTP Server List
Select the Server and then click the Advanced tab at the bottom.
Select Password authentication and add your details.
You might also want to set a custom port (even if it is one of the defaults)
This solution is normally for an email provider that will not let you send outside of your ISP network, which most prevent. They also must support password authentication of the SMTP server.

  • Cannot send email using port 465 from a network other than my ISP

I cannot send email from my ISP POP mail account when I am in a different network (e.g. when traveling). This happens with my iPad and my iPhone. However, I can send mail if I turn off wifi and use 3G. The outgoing port is 465.
Using my .mac account I don't have any problems sending mail using wifi or 3G.
I have tried adding smtp.mac.com or smtp.me.com as a secondary server to my POP account but it does not work. The secondary server disappears after I add it.

Contact your isp and ask them what the smtp settings are for when you are traveling. Most isps have different settings for sending email when off their network.

  • Cannot send email to Smart Group from Address Book

I created several Smart Groups in Address Book but I can't use any of them to send email. When I right-click the group name and choose Send Email, it opens my default email program (Thunderbird) and puts only the name of the Smart Group into the To: field, not the actual addresses.
If I try to actually send the message, I get the error that (name of group) "is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the email."
What am I doing wrong? How can I get it to paste the actual addresses and not just the name of the group? I looked at the Edit Distribution List window and all the addresses are there.
    I'm using OS X 10.5.7, Address Book 4.1.2 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.22.
    Thanks in advance.

What is the exact message you get when sending fails -- does it say there are one or more invalid addresses, or what?
Having a name in the list without email address or possibly one separated by comma between last and first might result similarly in an invalid address, and Mail will likely refuse to send to any. But if the message is from the SMTP, that might depend on the provider's policies for that.

  • I have a 3G phone and cannot send emails via the Iphone because it wont accept my password. the lap top works ok

unable to send e-mails but can read them on my I phone.
The service provider says its the the phone and the phone people say its the service provider

    Try restarting your iPhone.
If that doesn't do it, try Resetting All Settings from Settings > General > Reset (doesn't erase the iPhone).
You could also try troubleshooting the applications or restoring the iPhone.

  • Cannot send email from Verizon to a specific domain using the web UI

I'm trying to send an email to a specific address on a domain I own from a Verizon account using the web UI. Whenever I click send, a popup appears saying "Your e-mail contains the following invalid e-mail addresses:" followed by the email address. I can send email to this address from a GMail account as well as my work email.
In Chrome, I can see that a "code":1002 error is being produced.
Does anyone know why this would happen? Does Verizon check destination domains for reputation? Is there any way to debug this further?

What is the domain that is giving you the error?

  • Cannot send emails to .gmail address with bluewin account

My mum has an IMac (Snow Leopard) with a bluewin account and cannot send emails to a friend with a .gmail account. She gets an error message 17099, I think. Thanks for your help.

The destination of a mail message has nothing to do with locally reported errors attempting to send.  If you could send, and the destination was wrong, generally all that would happen is you would get a "bounce" message that the receiver couldn't be found, and that wouldn't be instantaneous.
Real errors like you describe that occur while sending means that either there's something wrong with your SMTP configuration (settings needed to send to the SMTP server) you set up in your mail client, or the SMTP server itself has a problem.
Does this error occur with every mail you attempt to send to anyone or just that specific account?  Can you send a mail to yourself?   And also, which email client are you using?

  • Cannot send email from new iPad 2 or new iPhone 4s

I have a new ipad2 and a new iPhone 4s.  I cannot send email from either.   I had an iPad and an android before with no email issues.  Phone is Sprint and ipad is Verizon.  I have tried using my wifi and have tried turning wifi off.  Nothing works.  Please help.

I agree, unplug and replug your router, then reset your iPad by holding down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red power down slider, and wait til you see the silver apple. let it reboot and then try your connection.
Chances are rebooting the router will help. You may also need to talk to cox. They may need to reset something on their end.

  • Cannot send email from iPad & iPhone with Virgin Media

I cannot send emails from my iPad and iPhone. I have a virginmedia.com address and I can receive but just cannot send. A message keeps saying the smpt settings are wrong. However, I have followed the tutorial on Virgin Media web site (this is how I managed to start receiving emails on my devices) but still not sending. I have looked at the settings in my MacBook Pro and all seem to be correct. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I had a similar problem when I loaded Microsoft Office 365 for Mac; I had to end up calling Virgin Media (useless) and then Microsoft (useful). Anyhow I have looked at the settings on the Mac and they all seem to correspond with the ipad and iphone but still cannot send emails. V V Frustrated.
    Thanks for reading.

Then make sure that the settings are correct in your email account.
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • TS3276 I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone

I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone help?

Thank you for heading me in the right direction.  I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information).   I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)??  In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port:  465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer."  Authentication:  Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in.  After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message:  "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.).  The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587.  Verify your account settings and try again."  That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails.  I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me.  Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input!  Much appreciated!

  • HT1277 I cannot send email from my mac but I can from my iPad and iphone

    Hi Guys,
Suddenly I cannot send email from my Mac.  I can however receive emails.
I can send emails with the same settings from my iPad and iPhone.
    Please help!!

Your settings for the SMTP server — host name, port number, SSL/TLS or not, or login credentials — are likely incorrect.  Use the Connection Doctor tool (Mail.app > Window > Connection Doctor) to check what's going on with the connections (and to get some diagnostic messages), then review the diagnostics and the current settings with the requirements established for your particular mail provider.
