Cannot send iMessage

Hi,
My partner and I both have iPhones with iMessage set up to receive at our email address and our phone numbers.
However, when I try to send a message to her phone number from Messages on the Mac it says the number isn't registered with iMessage (which it clearly is).
I've check the caller ID on both phones and deactivated and reactivated iMessage on both but to no avail.
May I ask for some assistance from the community on this one.
Many Thanks,
Adamski2010

Hi,
Providing your Address Book has her Apple ID (Email) and iPhone Number you can chose between the two when you go to iMessage her in Messages.
That is New Message > Blue + iCon > Chose Contacts > Chose Person > Chose Connection contact info
Once the Name is in th "To" space it will be a drop down that shows their options  (it also shows your "From" options as you may also be able to AIM or Jabber chats to them as well via other IDs)

  • IMessage Problem: cannot send iMessage to a specific contact!

    So here is the problem:
It's about 24 hours I cannot send iMessage to a specific contact only! Both of us have access to the internet and both of us can send iMessages to other contacts.
We have tried rebooting the phone, and turning iMessage on and off.
If it matters, we both live in Sweden and use different MNOs but still we are both on Wifi and cannot send and receive iMessages.
Could anyone give me and idea of what to do?!
Oh..and Apple...your iMessage is reaaaaaaally bougus.. do something about this pile of crap.

I had this problem with my sister living in Austria and I am in the States and at first I wondered if it was some international problem.
Are you sure you both have your apple ID's programmed into your contacts? For some reason it wasn't registering my sister's phone number as an iPhone but when I added her apple ID e-mail, it sends fine. I just have to iMessage her to THAT particular e-mail. That's the only way I was able to sort this same problem. iMessaging her to that e-mail works just fine.
I've iMessaged people in the states before just using their phone number only and not having their apple ID e-mail but with messaging to my sister in Austria, I have to use her e-mail. Wondering if anyone else has this issue with international iMessaging? I've iMessaged someone in Australia before with just their phone number and it worked fine so maybe it's completely random? I don't know. But definitely check and see if you have their apple ID in there in their contact information and try to iMessage them on that. See if it works! It did for me.

  • Cannot send iMessages to one of my contacts

I have a new iPhone 5s.  iMessages work with all of my other iPhone contacts, but one.  It worked with him intermittently and now has stopped completely.   For a few days the only thing I could do was send him Texts (which came up in green on my screen), but he never received them.  And when I 'push' the iMessages out as a text, he never get them.  When I try to send this one contact an iMessage, it immediately comes up with "not delivered" with a '!' symbol.   I re-try several times but it doesn't work.  I have shut messages off and on several time, shut my phone off and restarted it, deleted him from my contact list and added back.  Nothing seems to work.  He cannot send me anything either.  He has an older iPhone, without the upgrade (I think) and he says I have a green dot, not a blue one.  I don't know the old operating system, so I don't know what he has on his screen.   Please, please help.  It is important that I have easy messaging capability with this contact.  Sorry to be so long...  but the AT&T store people were not able to help me.  Very frustrating!

It may be an issue at Apple's end. Check the link below.

  • I cannot send iMessages to some ppl who have an iPhone connected to the internet

My iPhone is not recognizing some other iPhones connected to the internet among my contacts. Hence we cannot use iMessages, e en though their iMessage option is switched on in the settings. In other cases i can send iMessages using their apple ID instead of their number. it is a bit complicated.
    Any ideas?

Hey "AppleTechGenius"...you realize the thread you're posting to is almost two years old, & the OP has not posted since that original post, correct?

  • Contacts are red, cannot send iMessages

I am unable to send iMessages on a new iPad, contacts are coming up red even though they are indeed registered iMessage accounts (which I have been messaging successfully from an iPod for a long time), I have logged into iMessage properly and haven't changed my Apple ID. My WiFi is working correctly. I am baffled. Have read through the forum and answers are always "...iPads cannot send SMS message to any other device without an Apple ID" but again, the contacts are definitely registered. Please help. Thank you.

Problem solved! When setting up the new iPad, I used the family Apple ID that we have for iTunes/App Store rather than the Apple ID I use as my contact address - thankfully didn't have much loaded on the iPad, so I just erased all content & settings, restored to factory settings, and re-setup the iPad using the contact ID, set up iMessage / Facetime, and then added the iTunes/App Store ID after the fact. Everything works now. (note if anyone else needs to do this, backup your info first or it will be gone - I didn't back up as there was nothing worth losing on the device). Thank you tech support!

  • I cannot send imessage!

    Hi there,
I have a problem with imessage.
Even though Safari and Facetime works totally fine, I cannot send imsg ONLY at home. (My sister cannot also send imsg ONLY at home)
I'm using iphone 5s and macbook pro 2012. So does my sister.
I could send and receive imsg anytime, but it suddenly happened.
The weird thing is that I can send imsg at anywhere else EXCEPT my home!!
I reset the network settings of every single device I have.
I tried ALL ways people always say. (Turn off imsg -> Logout apple id -> Reset network settings -> Turn off the iphone -> ..... )
Is this a problem of my wifi router?
Or is it just ios problem?
    Or what else..
I have no idea how to make them work fine..
    Help me!!

  • I cannot send iMessages, but my phone still receives iMessages.

For the past two days, my phone has not been sending iMessages, but has still been receiving them from others. When I try to send an iMessage, it will continue to try to send it for hours and hours, rather than just sending it as a text message.
I have tried turning my phone on and off, turning iMessage on and off, and turning my cellular data on and off. None of this has worked.
Is anyone else having this problem, and if so, do you know how to fix it?

Go into Settings>Messages and see if it is turned on and if it is, does it show that it is activated. Try turning it off and then back on again and see what happens.

  • Cannot send imessage to my wife since she updated to iOS7

I updated iOS7 yesterday on my iphone. Then my wife updated to iOS7 this morning on her iphone. Since she updated it will not allow us to send imessages. We share an itunes account, but that was never a problem before. When I tried to send as imessages it would come up as "not delivered". Now it sends everything between the two of us as text messages. But we can both send imessages to all the other iphone users on our contact lists.

On at least one of the phones, go to Settings/ Messages/ Send & Receive and then tap the e-mail address to turn that option off.  That should force the iMessage to be sent to the unique phone numbers of the phones, not the e-mail address that is common between the phones.
Or alternatively, create a new e-mail address for one of you and select that as the e-mail option to receive at on one of the phones instead of the shared e-mail.

  • IPad 2 iOS 5 cannot send iMessage to others

    Hello All
I am using iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with iOS 5. From iPhone no problems to send iMessage. But from iPad 2 I can't send any message by email, also to my self. It getting error faild to deliver.
Could anyone suggest something, how to solve the issue?
    Thanks

You can turn off the SMS feature in the iMessages settings so if it cant send as an iMessage, it wont send as a text instead.
Once you do that, you wont have to worry about being billed anymore for the normal rate of texts. Some people can have their phone number attached to their Apple ID so even if you send it to their phone number, it will send as an iMessage. You can look at that by going into Settings>Messages>Send & Recieve At> and you will see any phone numbers and emails attached to the Apple ID which you can message to.
Try turning that off as stated above and try to send a iMessage to their phone number.

  • Cannot send iMessage, but I receive them.

My friend switched from Android to iPhone 5s.  When he texts me, I receive it as an iMessage on my 5c, but when I respond, it is sent as an SMS.  How can I make my messages go through as iMessages?
I have already turned iMessage off and back on.
    I am using iOS 7.0.4
I can send iMessages to my other contacts who have iPhones.  It is just this one contact.

    Hi Snerts,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you are not sending imessages to one contact. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Cannot send iMessages or text messages

I have an iPhone 5S which I've had for a year, and now my phone will not send iMessages or text messages. My phone had a little fit later on today, constantly vibrating everytime I clicked onto my messages. That stopped after I reset it, but now will not send anything, it also won't send anything via whatsapp, and when I click on my apps such as Facebook and instagram, it just shows a blank screen and then switches back to the home screen. Can anyone help?

    Hey Samanthalake94,
If your apps and messages aren't loading correctly I would start by quitting all the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling
