Cannot send mail, but I can receive mail

Hey,
In the past few weeks, i have had major trouble in sending emails from my macbook via the mail application (program), but i am able to receive mail fine. is anyone able to give me some hints before i throw my macbook onto oncoming traffic (which is also running majorly slow since the last update). I have been sitting here for about 30 mins waiting to send an email.
thanks,

Need more information to help .... What operating system do you have? How much free disk space do you have?
In mail, on the menu bar, if you click window and connection doctor, does your outgoing mail have a red dot next to it?  Does that tell you what the issue is? You can click show detail and check again if you want to see more information.

  • TS2755 I cannot send iMessages but I can receive them. Even if I have perfect signal I can't send an iMessage, and I have iMessage on in my settings.

I don't understand what is happening! This worked fine before I downloaded IOS7.

    Try this:
    1) Settings
    2) General
    3) Reset
    4) Reset Network Settings
This will reestablish the link for the cellular connection and the cellular data as well as the saved WiFi connections will be reset.
    Also Check this:
    1) Settings
    2) Messaging
    3) Ensure iMessage is turned on (sometimes it will turn itself off for some reason)
    4) Press on Send & Receive
    5) Ensure that all emails you want to be reached at as well as your phone number are listed there
Remember that iMessage requires a data connection so with out either cellular data or WiFi it will not work.

  • Cant send but i can receive mails

    Hi, anybody help?
Although i didnt change my settings, i can not send anymore but i can receive.....It says"can not send message using mail.(my domain)aristolea.com" - i am clicking on Connection doctor and its says "connection and login to server succeeded"..on outgoing mail server STMT i have the same as i used to have before: mail.aristolea.com and on the advanced settings the port is 110.
From my webmail i can send but not on my MAC.
    Any solutions.

I've been having this problem since I recently flattened and reinstalled Snow Leopard. Mail worked fine on my new MacBook Pro running a preinstalled Snow Leopard (FYI: flatten because a scanner driver was slowing computer shut down time, and couldn't find the culprit file). Currently running OS10.6.4, Mail v4.3 (1081).
Here's the pattern...Start mail. Receives new mail fine. Attempt to send mail, error box appears "Mail can't verify the identity of smtp.mydomain.com Certificate for this server is invalid....etc". If I click connect, sometimes it will send. If it still won't send, I'll click try later. If I restart and try to send again first thing, I'll get the same error. However, if I quit mail, restart then click the "Get new messages..." first, THEN try and send...it will send successfully.
So the behavior is inconsistent, depending on the sequence in which I attempt to send an email. And, since mail can be sent perfectly fine sometimes (with the right combo of moves)...it would suggest my smtp settings are correct. Otherwise, I figure it would never allow me to send anything until I corrected some setting first.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Mail app won't send mail, but it will receive mail

The mail app on my macbook pro and iphone will not send mail, but they can recieve mail.  I deleted both accounts and reloaded them and they still won't work.  After that I ran repair permissions and it found nothing wrong.  Has anyone experienced this problem and how can I fix this?

I had same problem with my MBA and Mac Desktop (don't have iPhone)...could receive but not send emails after Lion upgrade.  I only experienced it at home versus at work (inconsistently on both on my macbook air and my desktop mac).
For me the solution was when you compose an email there are two dropdown listboxes next to From:  ...in the second one select smtp.me.com:yourusername   Until Apple makes a change you might need to do that each time you send or reply to a message.
I think it has something to do with if you don't do that then port 25 might get used which can be blocked by a lot of ISPs.
Apple support helped me solve this problem and said it was a known issue they are working on.
Hope this helps with your issue!

  • I can't send messages but I can receive them

I can't send messages but I can receive them, is it an iOS 7.0.3 issue or Verizon Wireless? Also not receiving data

    Hey Bonaccio,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Messages on your iPhone 5. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
I also understand you are experiencing issues with your cellular data connection. These two issues may be related, so definitely give the steps in this article a go:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3780
Follow the instructions below for assistance with troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
    1. Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    2. Restart your iPhone.
    3. Ensure that your software is up to date:
              - Check for a Carrier Settings Update. Tap Settings > General > About.
              - Check for an iOS Software Update. Tap Settings > General > Software Update. Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
    4. Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
    5. If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
    6. Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrier to report the issue.
    7. Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    8. Restore the iPhone as new.
    9. Contact your carrier to:
              - Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
              - Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
              - Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Mail "Cannot send message" but Thurnderbird can

Mail is giving an error message "Cannot send message using server" - on all my servers including dot mac..but Thunderbird can, with no probs...
This happpened a couple of months ago and reentering all the settings did not work so I used Thunderbird with no probs for a while..then I archived my emails in Mail and trashed all the accounts settings.
Mail worked just fine for a few weeks..then the same problem
    any ideas?

Mail worked fine on a wireless connection this morning
Who is the internet service provider associated with this wireless connection?
But now we are back to no sending (the message btw is
"cannot send message using this server") on the ethernet connection
Is the internet service provider for the ethernet connection different from the ISP associated with the wireless connection?
Which server port are you using for .Mac's authenticated SMTP server with Mail and with Thunderbird?
Are any of the other SMTP servers not provided by the ISP associated with the wireless connection or with the ethernet connection authenticated and if so or regardless, which server port are you using for the SMTP servers not provided by either ISP or if the same ISP with both connection with Mail and Thunderbird?

You have a setting incorrect in the outgoing mail settings. Either the port is wrong or the server is wrong.
Please post what the server is and the port it is using. It should be something like POP.XXX.com/net or Mail.xxx.com/net.

  • I cant send email but i can receive

i cannot send email from my iphone 4 but i have no problem receiving messages.. this became a problem after downloading the latest iphone software

Hai i just want to share. I hope you 2 have already solved the problem. I had a same problem lady week, and i read some suggestions from apple support comunity. Hope it could be useful. I tried to go to setting - mail, contact etc - choose your account - outgoing mail server - primary server- and fill the username and password. They said it has worked. But it didnt for me. Then i found that the problem came from yahoo. If you two also use yahoo, we might have a same problem. All you have to do is sign in to yahoo, and we have to change our password after the sign in page. It thought maybe because of the weak password or something. Goodluck

  • Since Sept 15, 2013 I cannot send emails, but I can send them

I am on a Norwegian cargo ship off the coast of Norway. It has Wi-Fi, but I cannot send emails using my iPad. I understand that Verizon has had big problems recently. I cannot phone Verizon for advice, and if the problem is Verizon's fault, I do not want to change my settings. Can anyone advise me how to fix the problem? Very frustrating and I have not been able to reach technical support using my Safari browser.

Not sure where the previous poster's setting come from but certainly are different to what I use also I have to ssume you are using some form of mail client as using web mail should be no different wherver you are in the world.
    Incoming server - incoming.verizon.net
    outgoing server - outgoing.verizon.net
login information - your userid and password for your email account
    More settings
outgoing server - outgoing server (smtp) check requires authentication
use same settings as incoming mail server for security
    Advanced - incoming server (pop3) port 110
    outgoing server (smtp)  port 587
I would guess that your issue is probably the outgoing server port.  If you have it set to 25 it will work when you are connected to a verizon network otherwise the mail will get rejected for reason relaying.
    EDIT
Ah I see where previous poster got his setting, they are on the page he referenced, interesting that it mentions DSL on there.  I am a FIOS user.  Can't believe there are any difference in mail setting between FIOS and DSL but maybe,
I took my mail setting out of my Outlook email client properties and they have been working fine for years.
As to changing setting you need to bear in mind.  Settings that are used on devices that are not attached to Verizon's network WILL work when the device ias attached to the VZ network.
The reverse is not necessarily true.
The settings mentioned by you are the very old settings.  They were changed at least a couple years ago.  The latest ones are as mentioned by Jumpin68ny for VERIZON email (DSL AND FIOS included) where a third party such as Yahoo is not used.
    Mail server settings
    Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
    Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465  Why is this important?
    Your Verizon Online user name
    Your Verizon Online password
Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked.
Also make sure when using these SSL servers that the password is normal (in the clear).
