Cannot Send Mail in Wi-fi Networks

I know this has been an issue, but can't seem to get an answer. I can receive mail in wi-fi networks, but not send. Message comes on saying, "Cannot connect to earthlink server......."
I have checked mail preferences. I know I can use Mail2Web or something, but seems I should be able to send.
Any help? Thanks.

HI,
Try here. Can Receive But Not Send Mail
That link says 10.5. The information is relevant to 10.6 also.
Also Brendan. Your forum profile indicates you are rugging 10.6 It's important to keep your system software up to date. Installing the v10.6.2 Combo Update may help your Mail issues.
If you install that update, make sure and repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Cannot Send Mail using AIM account.

I can receive mail fine but when I try to send mail I get the following message:
Cannot send mail using the server smtp.aim.com:EmilyLozano.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Message from: Emily Lozano <[email protected]>
I left for a trip a few days ago, came back and now for no apparent reason cannot send mail as I always have. I have reconfigured the port to 587 and that did not help. Any suggestions? (I can send and receive fine via the web, but I really hate it.)

I'm glad you got it figured out. So many times people on this forum sit around waiting for help when they could have retraced their steps, like you did, to figure out the source of the problem.

  • Cannot send mail after upgrading to Lion

    Can anyone help.
I upgraded to OS X Lion, and since then I cannot send mail from any of my accounts.
Nothing wrong with them. I can access, receive and send with othe Mail programs, as well as from my iPhone and iPad.
I have deleted, and reconfigured my accounts, and no luck.

I am having the exact same problem as Steve Kennedy a few posts back.
"When I press send I watch the fan for a couple of minutes before seeing the error message that invites me to select another server or try later. The outgoing mail server that shows up as being unusable is MobileMe (MobileMe). When I select smtp.me.com, I can send. Sometimes I can even send a couple of messages before the problem returns.
I'm using Lion and Mail 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3) on my iMac (mid-2010) and Verizon FIOS. Never had this problem with Snow Leopard or earlier. Don't have it with my MacPro running Snow Leopard on the home wireless network. Don't have it when using MobileMe mail on the Web, but that's a slow alternative."
I am getting REAL tired of the Lion quirks. <y desktop rearranges itself when it feels like it. Nothing consistent or repeatable. The folders just all appear on the right side and disregard how I have them organized on the desktop. I have set all of the recommended settings to no avail. A mind of it's own.
Help us Apple. Mail is almost unusable.

  • IPad receives mail just fine, but cannot send mail

I am using a POP3 server with shaw (the server for both incoming and outgoing mail is shawmail.vc.shawcable.net) and, as stated in the title, my iPad will not send any mail. It refuses to interact with the SMTP server. It says "Cannot Send Mail    The connection to the outgoing server "shawmail.vc.shawcable.net" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts Calendars."
I have already tried everything that I have found already suggested on these forums and others, including inputting both a username and password for the SMTP server, changing the port to 25, and restarting my iPad after each of these changes. All of the settings on the iPad match those on my mail program perfectly (which works without a hitch, and has been for some time now.) I am connected by Wi-Fi to my home network, the exact same router I use to get my mail on my personal computer.
One other detail: whenever I change the settings for the SMTP server in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, it says that the SMTP server does not support password verification, which is just plain untrue. What is wrong with my iPad?

What did your email provider, Shaw, say or suggest about settings needed for the iPad?

  • Cannot Send Mail One of the Recipients Email Addresses is Invalid

Cannot Send Mail One of the Recipients Email Addresses is Invalid
This is the error message I keep getting on outgoing mail. Incoming mail works fine. Does anyone have any suggestions to try?

You mean you can receive and send messages when you are connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider as the internet connection for your wireless network at home, but you are unable to send messages with this account when connected to AT&T's cellular network?
If so, this leans toward your email account being provided by your internet service provider.
Most internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of the ISP's network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated. Not many ISPs provide an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide their customers.
You can do one of two things. The iPhone includes AT&T's SMTP server to select as the SMTP server to use for this email account when you are connected to AT&T's cellular network, but you probably won't be able to use AT&T's SMTP server to send with the account when connected to your wi-fi network at home.
Or you can switch to using an email account that provides an authenticated SMTP server. A Gmail account is one, and a MobileMe account is another.

  • Cannot send mail with mavericks

Hi I'm using an iMac 2011 27 in. Shawcable is my ISP. I can receive mail. I cannot send mail. I get the error "cannot connect to account myaccount, enter password for user myname" If I go into accounts in mail prefs all smtp accounts show as offline.  I have been over all my settings with shaw they say problem is on my end. They say my computer isn't connecting. Anyone have any ideas?

Without in details on what you have tried, I'll throw out some things:
On the SMTP server settings, use a custom port number instead of using the default ports.
Make sure you don't have any firewall, net-nanny, or other such network blockers running.
In Mail, Open Connection Doctor from the Window menu.
Click Show Detail, then Check Again.
Note any message noted in the stoplight section, and any related to the account in the details.
You may want to sanitize any of the messages from the Details so that it doesn't give away an email account or other identifying info.

  • IPhone 3G Cannot Send Mail.  The sender address was invalid.

All of a sudden, I cannot send mail. I get the message "Cannot Send Mail" The sender address was invalid.
I have reset the phone in hopes of resolving the problem. That did not work.
The mail that I'm sending to IS a valid address; I'm trying to RESPOND.
    Please help.

The configuration and use of any outgoing server address (SMTP) may not be supported due to several factors including, but not limited to, the inability for the outgoing server (SMTP) to authenticate users (whether by IP or username/password) that are not directly connected to that Internet Service Providers(ISPs) network.
This is usually your HOME wi-fi and you are not connected to it because you are on your iPhone away from the house. This is mainly done to prevent unsolicited users from sending SPAM via the ISP's servers.
An alternative is to use ATT SMTP Server (for US) when you are on the 3G or data network for the carrier and not on your home wi-fi. So enable ATT SMTP server under Other SMTP servers under your Mail's account settings on the iPhone.
If you are interested you can obtain that information directly from the email provider. This article has a great temple that you can use to ask all necessary information from the provider including "If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you use another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Ask your email provider if the settings they give you will work on other networks."
What to ask if you're having issues sending, receiving, or configuring Mail

  • 3GS cannot send mail

Just in the last couple of days I find that I cannot send mail. I compose and when I hit send it just disappears. No attempt at sending is made. It does not save a draft or try to connect. It does not end up in my Outbox either. The BCC copies never arrive. I have checked and my software is up to date. I have tried to delete all of the accounts and readd them one at a time. No luck. The last I can see that I have sent messages would be from a few days ago. The mail is downloading but seems sluggish all around.
    Any clues?
    thanks
    Terri

I had to reset my Network connections in the General Preferences and it fixed the problem. I have no idea how it messed up in the first place, but the reset worked.

  • Transaction failed: Cannot send mail due to possible abuse

For the past two days, I have not been able to send mail from one of my Verizon.net sub-accounts using Mozilla Thunderbird. However I can send mail from the Verizon Yahoo webmail website.
    I get this error message:
An error occurred while sending mail. Transaction failed: Cannot send mail due to possible abuse; please visit http://postmaster.yahoo.com/abuse_smtp.html for more information.
And when I click on "OK" in the message box, this second error message pops up:
Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again or contact your network administrator.
When I go to http://postmaster.yahoo.com/abuse_smtp.html, there is just a generic Yahoo help page, with nothing specific about this problem.

The possible abuse is likely a 24 hour hold for accounts suspected of sending Spam. Are you still having issues? Also what ports do you have the incoming/outgoing server set to?

  • IPhone message. "Cannot Send Mail"  "The connection to the outgoing server.

    It states:
"Cannot Send Mail" "The connection to the outgoing server "(null)" failed."
This is the error I get attempting to send Yahoo mail using EDGE network on at&t.
I would guess that only 2-3 emails out of every 10 go through. The rest get the above error message.
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks

Well, if your on ATT Yahoo. The settings are as follows, and I've had luck both sending and recieving with these settings.
    Incoming Mail Server
    Host Name: pop.att.yahoo.com
User Name: *****@sbcglobal.net (or whatever your ATT domain might be)
    Password: Required
    Outgoing Mail Server
    Host Name: smtp.att.yahoo.com
User Name: ****@sbcglobal.net (or whatever your domain happens to be)
Password: Optional (I left mine blank)
    Under Advanced
Deleted Messages: Remove After ? (Your Choice)
    Incoming Settings
    Use SSL : On
    Authentication: Password
    Delete from Server: Your choice
    Server Port: 995
    Outgoing Settings
    Use SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 465
I've taken these setting from my phone. I can't remember all the domain names for the ATT Yahoo, but I know sbcglobal is one, and I believe attglobal is another. Also to change the ports under advanced, though you shouldn't have to, simply click the port area and a keypad will come up below. You can type the port number there.

  • Cannot send mail error

All of a sudden I keep getting CANNOT SEND MAIL message. The connection to the smtp.comcast.net server has failed.
I've re-entered the parameters, deleted and re-added the email account, added another server account...nothing works. I can't send mail.

    AlexMaeda,
    This article has more information:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
As for an email provider allowing customers to relay outside of their network, many email providers, set up an authenticating SMTP server on different port. The article above includes information on specifying the port to use.
For example, .Mac accounts can use port 587 as discussed in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75124
You may want to check with your email provider if they offer an authenticating smtp server for people who are traveling or using mobile devices. Many do so without any additional cost, some may charge for access to that service.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Smtp offline cannot send mails can receive

Cannot send mails from mac mail continues to show smtp offline however i can only receive mails, at my wits end

Try the Mailbox menu and select Take all accounts offline, then select Take all accounts online.
If this does not work, you should call your email provider. They may have changed their settings for SMTP, or you may be on a different network that requires different settings.

  • Cannot send mail during roaming

    Hi,
Just faced a problem with my Torch. When I traveled, I can got the new mails but cannot send mails.  All the outgoing mails were pending during roaming and released when back to home town.
The Torch is configured with BES for corporate and personal email, both mail accounts faced same situation. Is it the carrier or the BES issue?
    Please advice.
    Ryan
    PS. Happy new Year

Excellent! A much simpler solution for you than it was for me. I was traveling internationally a lot last year and needed full BIS/BES roaming. As it turned out, it had to be properly configured before leaving my home network yet could only be tested after arriving in the new country. My carrier got it wrong -- twice...leaving me with no roaming service on two trips. After the second one, we escalated to an engineer at my carrier who was finally able to configure it correctly and I've had no roaming problems since (as long as I roam on a network with adequate services, of course).
    Cheers!

  • Cannot Send Mail

I just tried sending a email from my iphone this morning and I get the message "Cannot Send Mail, the sender address was invalid"
For the past 3 months everything has been fine and mail has been working perfectly. I haven't changed any of the settings at all. However, I did notice this morning that when I logged into my Gmail account online that they've changed they're layout. Seems like quite the coincidence that Google changed their layout and all of a sudden I can't send mail on the phone.
If anybody else is having this problem, or knows of how to resolve it, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

The user in this thread is having the same issue. I am not having any problems sending mail from my gmail account after the update.
