Cannot send mail...please help!

Hello,
My mail is all of a sudden not allowing me to send emails, however I can receive them. When I try to send an email it pops up with the following error message:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
The connection to the server "smtp.mac.com" on port 25 timed out."
Can someone please tell me how to fix this??!!
Thank you

Who is your internet service provider used for connecting to the internet?
Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your internet service provider with the Mail application and if so, are you able to send messages with this account?
Try this first:
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
This should work and if not and you are also accessing an email account and SMTP server with Mail that is provided by your internet service provider and you can send messages with this account, select/use your internet service provider's SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account.
Likely your ISP made a recent change regarding the use of an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by the ISP on Port 25 and neglected to inform their customers.

    Hi there
I’d be happy to help with this messaging error! This will be due to the device storing the number incorrectly. Please do the following to resolve the issue:
Delete texts from both old number and new
Delete any call logs including these numbers
    Delete old number from contacts
    Delete new number from contacts
    Restart device
Send text to the new number directly (do not save as contact)
Once the text sends successfully, you can then save as a new contact
    I hope this helps!

  • Terminal Command is not allowing me to send mail - please help

I (foolishly) entered these two commands based on this article to try to receive read receipts and now I cannot send any mail at all (http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/etrequestrecp.htm)
    defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders
    defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Disposition-Notification-To" = "Name <email@address>"; }'
I did try the command in the article to undo this command, but it's not working. Any help would be appreciated - thanks

Hi Christine, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Cannot send mail! Help!

I have set up mail using a POP account and it receives email no problem. However, it will not send mail. It gives me message saying that it cannot br delivered 'at this time' and will try again later. I have set up the outgoing SMTP server which seemed simple enough and i do not know what else to try. Anybody got any ideas.
    Thanks.

In the overall Mail Preferences, there are two places where Ports are selected. One is in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced, and is only related to the Incoming Server, and Mail normally default to the correct type of Port, based upon the account type -- 110 is for accessing POP3 servers, while IMAP accounts will use 143, or 993 if using SSL.
The other place Ports are selected, is in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information/Outgoing Mail Server/Server Settings -- this will usually default to Port 25, but may have to be changed based upon the policies of your ISP, if you are attemping to use any SMTP not provided by your ISP.
What is reported in each of these locations, including type of Authentication?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Cannot Send Y!Mail through Mail Please Help!

Hi, I've tried everything on the Yahoo help page but I still can't send mail through my Mac mail client but I can receive mails. I tried to use these settings
My Yahoo! Mail address (karty18 (at) yahoo (dot) com)
Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, default port: 25, 465, 587, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (karty18)
Password: My Yahoo! Mail password (yes, my password is correct)
Still it doesn't work. I also tried the outgoing mail server: "Yahoo! SMTP Server" still no luck.
And finally I tried to use custom port 587 just incase my IP is blocking port 465... no luck still. and for some reason when I select either outgoing server, it says offline in parenthesis but my mail accounts are all online (weird).
I can receive mail alright but I cannot send. Please help me. I don't know what else to do from here. Thanks much.

    Some might find this useful.
If you have a .co.uk address with Yahoo instead of .com, you can retrieve and send mail via the mail app using a free yahoo account.
I have been doing this for years.

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that

Now, when I try to email from my phone, I am block, thwarted, rejected by the following message:
    Cannot Send Mail
A copy has been placed in your Out Box.  The recipient (enter email here) was rejected by the server.
This happens with my business address.  Receiving works.... sending doesn't.
My SBC Global address on this same phone is fine...receiving and sending.
    What to do?  I'm stressed.

    Hi,
I had the same issue on my iPhone 5S.  My internet/email provider told me to uncheck (turn off) USE SSL under Mail settings, and it worked perfectly for me.

  • I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.

If it's a thin 1 pixel wide vertical line it's highly likely it could be caused by a defective LCD.
One quick basic way to check is to note the position of the line. Then go to System Preferences, Displays, and lower the resolution. If ther line moves it's on the video and the logic board or video card if fitted is likely to be defective. If the line stays in the same position it's likely to be an LCD fault. Either way to have it repaired you'll need to visit an Apple store or AASP.
The worst offender for this problem is the Late 2006 17" iMac. FOC replacement of the LCD used to be covered by a quality program, but it's now ended.

  • All of a sudden I cannot send mail but I still receive it. Help?

All of a sudden I cannot send mail although I still receive.  Anyone have an answer to this?

Do you get an error message?
You can go back into the mail account settings and scroll to the outgoing mail server and see if you can enter a password, same one as your incoming mail server.

  • I can Receive mail but cannot send-- can anyone help??

    Hi everyone,
I just got my iPhone and I was setting up my email account which is AIM. It works perfectly except for one problem. When I try to send an email (and I have tried to multiple people), a message pops up that says:
    Cannot Send Mail
    The sender address was invalid.
It says this any messages I try to send. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

    Hey arden1985,
If you haven't already, try to remove the account and add it again.
This article will provide some general tips that may resolve the issue.

    Hello lclaunch22
You may need to validate the account with Hotmail. When logged in to the Hotmail account on a computer, there are instructions on how to do this.

  • Cannot send mail from any mail account

I have a Mac Mini, late 2014 model, running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2.   I have constant difficulty sending mail from any of my mail accounts; these are iCloud, Googlemail, Yahoo and a personal one which uses 123-reg.co.uk.  I am currently located in Greece, but have been having trouble for ages, even in the UK.  I can receive mail, but I don't seem able to send it.  Error message is usually simply cannot send mail using this server, select a different server.  However, when connection doctor is run, all servers appear to be connected and I am logged in.  Any ideas please?

Hi, not sure why that is relevant, but we arrived at the end of January this year.  Here is a screen shot of a recurring problem, although in this case Gmail is not connected to the internet, which it usually is.  Hope this helps.
Your outgoing Gmail servers not working, everything else seems OK.
So, what is not working for you (other than Gmail Sending)

  • Cannot send mail from iPhone using Godaddy account/email

Was working perfectly until recently. Incoming mail still ok.
Now get error message when sending mail "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server "smtpout.secureserver.net" failed.
Have tried various fixes including using cwmx.com server, other ports and SSL on and off but no luck.
Have spoken to Godaddy support but they can't help as say must be local issue with iPhone.
    Is GoDaddyGuy out there?

    SizzyB and Joe,
I've read over your posts and see that you've both tried a few different troubleshooting steps with our support. The next step would be removing the whole email address from your iPhone and setting it back up. When you set up the email address, you should use the step by step walk through instructions available at http://help.godaddy.com/article/3423.
SizzyB, please note that cwmx.com is an AT&T specific server. Your UK provider might list a comparable SMTP server as a default or you might need to contact them to get their settings.
Joe, I would also like to note that you would specifically need to have our Unlimited email plan to utilize the IMAP service feature.
If either of you have further issues, please post the full details (including any errors messages you receive) and we'll continue to work on a solution.
