Cannot send mail when out and about

Hey all
I recently got my Iphone4 and synced it to my mail on my computer. When using my iphone at home it send mail without a problems as it goes through my wifi I have. Internet is virgin media and mail is with windows mail by the way incase its important.
When I am out and about I can recieve email without a problem but cannot send anything at all.
What do I need to do so that I can send mail no matter where I am?
Thanks
Ant

It's most likely exactly the same issue. Most ISPs only allow you to use their outgoing email server whilst connected to their internet service.
With a mobile device like an iPhone you won't always be connected to your ISPs internet service. Sometimes it will be your mobile network provider (when on 3G), or on some other WiFi service like a public hotspot in Starbucks or McDonalds.
When you are not connected to your ISPs internet service, you either have to use the SMTP server of the internet provider you are connected to (awkward to keep changing, even if you know it), or you "authenticate" your connection to your ISPs SMTP server (if they allow it) with a username and password so that they can verify it is you who is using their server and not some spammer.
The best way to avoid all this, is to use an email provider that is totally independent of any internet provider and will therefore work from anywhere, regardless of how you are connecting to the internet.
GMail and Apple's own MobileMe offer authenticated SMTP servers that work from anywhere.

The HTC hotspot works fine with everything else I connect to it.
Also - ipad will not connect to my HTC via bluetooth. Again, I can connect to everything else with my HTC other than my ipad.
I have to say this is my first venture into Apple products and I have always wanted to get away from my windows based laptop to get a MacBook, the problems I have had (flash player etc) & continue to have (as above) are putting me right off swapping over. I HATE technology that doesn't work and my ipad has been hard work!

I stated my ipad as being an ipad2, but I now think it is a 3??? It was new Jan this year and is the 64gb retina display version.
I really would like to get to the bottom on this problem wit mobile hotspots as it is sitting on my desk next to me now and I cannot get it to connect to my HTC mobile hotspot!!!! It might be taking a flying lesson soon at this rate!!! Grrrrrrr...........

  • Using apps, send/recieve emails when out and about

    details:
    8520 curve

    v4.6.1.314 (platform 4.2.0.135)
    Hi.
I'm new to the blackberry and when i signed up to virgin i was offered unlimited internet an free email.
why is it that ican only send and recieve emails when i'm connected to my wifi at home?
also none of my apps work when i'm out and about.
    is this normal?
i would just use my laptop if i was at home so what is the point in that???
    thanks for any advice.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your carrier for formal assistance...you are paying for a service that they are not delivering to you...

  • "Sender address rejected by server" but only when out and about!

    Hi!
My iPhone 3GS has been working fine with sending and receiving emails both via wifi and when I'm out and about.
Now it won't allow me to send emails while I'm out. Can receive them okay and can access the internet, but when I try to send them I get told that the sender address was rejected by the server.
Yet it still works perfectly fine sending and receiving via wifi when I'm home.
I'm using an smtp address attached to my work, port 587. I know nothing technical but can try to give other details if asked.
Spent a while in the Orange shop and didn't get anywhere, any help I would gladly accept!

Yes! It worked! Haven't left the house yet today but managed to send emails with the wifi turned off, which is better than I have been doing.
I had tried putting my username and password in but not the whole email address, had also tried putting my server log in details into those boxes.
Thank you, it really was driving me mad and you saved me having to tediously go through it all on the phone with someone.

  • HELP: Cannot send mail when off network??

Hi we have set up the mail server on our Leopard server to host mail for our domain, we can successfully recieve and send mail when clients on on our internal network, and when off network can send as well. But when a client is not on the internal network (e.g. StarBucks or at home), they can not send mail using our server, even when on VPN. We have selected to use authentication, and the connection doctor in mail shows it is able to log in and connect with the server. any ideas?

I see it's been a month with no on-line response to your problem from Apple or anybody. That may indicate there isn't one that works 100%. I am having the exact same problem with all of the same companies. Add to it that I cannot get e-mail on my PC at home/office when the I-phone is turned on. I too have been in contact numerous times with Charter and Verizon, and have received zero return phone calls from either when promised. It seems that many people have these problems, but so far nobody can fix them? And I paid for this phone? I never thought I'd be at a point where I would consider returning to my Blackberry.

  • Problem sending mail when out of town.

So, I check in to the hotel w/ wifi and I receive mail but cannot send it. "Cannot send message using selected server" referring to my regular mail server. Gmail doesn't work nor does .mac even changing the port to 587.
Are there any magic numbers I need to configure to accomodate this or is it just too bad.
    Thank you

Do you have the authentication information filled in for the mail account? Open Mail preferences, click on Accounts icon in toolbar, click on Account Information tab. Click on the Server Settings button. Select Password authentication from the Authentication drop down menu. Fill in your email username and password.
Some mail servers will not permit you to use them for sending mail when logged into another ISP account without authentication. Also be sure you are using the proper server for the mail account you are accessing, especially if you have multiple accounts and mail servers configured.

  • Connecting to WiFi when out and about

    Hello,
I have had my iPod touch for about 2 weeks and I really like it. At home, I have absolutely no problems connecting to WiFi and all of the applications function.
The problem arises when I am out and about. I live in New York City, so there are tons of open connections available nearly everywhere. However, I have only rarely been able to connect to them. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance for your help.
    Leanne

Yes it is sorta a hit and miss even when the connection seems to be open and public it still may be set to Mac Addressing which would mean if your Mac Address isn't listed in that Wireless Router it isn't going to let you join the network.
The best luck I have is to find homes that don't have any security at all as most business's and Cafe hotspots are locked and still require a password.

  • Downloading music when out and about

If i am out and about and download a song or app on my phone (using itunes) will this use any data allowance?

Yes, if you aren't using Wi-Fi

  • Connecting wirelessly when out and about

Forgive my ignorance I am very new to all this. If I am out and about with my iBook and come across a place e.g. coffee shop, which has free wireless internet access, do I have to be a paying subscriber of that service in order to get on the net? Would Airport be the way I would connect? Will it ask me a password or something?
Do they have such wireless access at the Apple Store Regent Street and if so which provider do they use?
    Thanks

That would depend on the network your joining. For example if your walking down Tottenham Court Road and click on your airport icon you may see half a dozen wifi network available to you.
    example
    BT click
    T-mobile in startbucks
there is wifi in cafe nero
You may pick up private networks.
Any way if you choose from the list t-mobile it lets you join then network but the first tine you open your web browser it redirects you to a page where you have to enter your membership details or use a credit card to purchase 1 hour of internet time.
If you choose a private network from the list you may be prompted to enter a wep key or wpa password.
If however you join an open network you may be able to surf the net without entering a password. You can get fre internet in the cafe above foyles bookshop on charing X road.

The wifi in the apple store is free and is provided by apple I am not sure which ISP they use. It does not really matter. You can sit in there and use the internet.

  • Cannot send Mail when in different country

    Hello all
I have setup an SLS as Mail Server. I can send and receive mail OK (no SSL). I had complaints that when clients travel to different countries they cannot send e-mails, even if we have set SMTP with authentication. Is there any way to avoid this? Our static IP responds to the name of the mail server (mail.serveradmin.gr)
    host mail.serveradmin.gr
    +mail.serveradmin.gr has address 85.72.48.65+
    BUT IP itself no:
    +host 85.72.48.65+
    +65.48.72.85.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer XXXX.static.otenet.gr.+
This is because Greek ISP does not point one static IP to the name of your choice, you have to buy a block of 16 (which is expensive).
In Exchange 2007, you can set the so-called Internet Host Name of the System, and there put the real authoritative answer (XXXX.static.otenet.gr)
Is there anything similar in Dovecot?
    Thanks
    Kostas

    Here is the postconf output:
As I mentioned before, Greek ISPs does not give you reverse DNS if you have one static IP, only if you buy a 16 block, which costs 50 euros per month.

  • Cannot send SMS when voice and data enabled on 4G

Iphone 6 on AT&T. When I enable Voice and Data for LTE, I cannot send or receive SMS messages. If I turn off LTE or just enable data over LTE, SMS works.
I have reset the network setting, disabled iMessages and re-enabled, removed SIM car and replaced it, and restarted the phone. I have not restored the phone from scratch though and would like to avoid that.
    iMessages works fine.
    Any help?

SMS is a carrier feature so, th first thing I would do is contact AT&T. There are a number of other threads in the forum about people have issues with AT&T and Voice over LTE, notably Caller ID.

  • Broadband access when out and about

I am an Infinity user and FON registered. At my away from home location the BTcoverage map shows three FON users ,all within 100 yards but no nearby Openzones. I am unable to make a connection. Do the other local Fon users have to have their Broadband on in order for me to connect ?
As there are plenty of Talk-Talk sites (but all secured) is there anyway that  I can access through Talk -Talk or another means ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi you can only connect to a FON or OPENZONE site i you are in range of the hub as using suppliers like TT no they do not operate a FON /OPENZONE service you can also log in to any cloud network site free as well the only need to connect is an active BT HUB you have to be able to see the hub signal on your laptop/mobile device to connect to it

  • Cannot Send Mail error message

    Hey guys,
Having a few email issues. When I'm at home, using wifi, it receives and sends perfectly. However, when out of range, and using my telco's 3g etc connection, it receives messages fine, however when I'm sending the messages stay in outbox with a Cannot Send Mail - One of the recipent addresses was invalid message. The address is fine, and i've tried it with multiple addresses with the same messsage. Interesting, mail send with @"my isp" seem to work.
I've got the settings set up with my ISPs outgoing server, and also my Telco's SMTP server too - which I can't change any of the settings in anyway....
    Any clues??

The first thing that jumps to mind is that while you're away from your ISP's connection, sometimes they require a different port to be used when sending. This isn't the case all the time but again, it's the first thing that came to mind.
Many ISP's require you to be connected directly to them when sending mail from their account. It's really a security measure on their end but most do offer an alternate port that you can change to which will allow you to send when out and about via 3G or another wifi connection, etc.
It's something to look into. I would contact them or look online for their advanced settings.
    Regards,
    Brian

    I updated to 5.0 today.
Now, when I try to email from my phone, I am block, thwarted, rejected by the following message:
    Cannot Send Mail
A copy has been placed in your Out Box.  The recipient (enter email here) was rejected by the server.
This happens with my business address.  Receiving works.... sending doesn't.
My SBC Global address on this same phone is fine...receiving and sending.
    What to do?  I'm stressed.

    Hi,
I had the same issue on my iPhone 5S.  My internet/email provider told me to uncheck (turn off) USE SSL under Mail settings, and it worked perfectly for me.

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that
