Cannot send outgoing mail since 10.9.5 update.  Very frustrating.  Any suggestions?

Since a recent 10.9.5  update, Mail will receive but not send.  The listing out outgoing smtp servers was gone.  I re-entered the servers.  I got my Gmail account to work yesterday, but not the other two accounts.  Today not even the Gmail account worked in Mail. Any suggestions?

I would manually go over each smtp setting and compare it with the mail providers guide
and if they were 100% the same then I would
get in touch with the phone company to verify if they were blocking the ports being
    used by the mail service
there is no general issue with ios5 removing out going mail services or blocking ports

    Does web mail work?
Have you checked the outgoing mail server settings?
That's the smtp address of your internet provider.
You may need to change the outgoing mail server for each location.

  • Cannot send outgoing mail in gmail

I need help. The last couple weeks I have not been able to send email out on my gmail account. I have no probs with yahoo just gmail. I get the message: Cannot Send Mail The connection to the outgoing server smpt.gmail.com has failded. I have no idea what to do.

I have a POP email issue. for some reason, my outgoing work email "[email protected]" gets sent out as "[email protected]". I do not know why my phone is shortening the domain. I am able to send & receive fine, but you cannot reply to my email because the domain changes. I have checked all the fields and they are correct. I've reset and recreated the account and it still happend. I've also used both att smpt serve and my work smpt server but they both do the same thing. i've had this setup on my old phone and it worked fine - just won't work on iphone.

  • Cannot send outgoing mail via Lotus Notes

Just installed Lotus Notes 6.5 on my PC (Win XP Pro SP3).  Have no problems receiving email ... just cannot send.  I keep getting same error msg:
"SMTP Protocol returned a permanent error.  Failed with outgoing.verizon.net"
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Make sure that you have the outgoing server, outgoing.verizon.net as an authenticated server.  You will need your Verizon Online username and password.  The Verizon Online username/password is set up differently than FiOS - I didn't get one of these accounts until I called and requested one.

  • I cannot send outgoing mail

    I live in Hong Kong , but have a BTInternet e-mail .
I have set up my mail account and changed the SMTP server to the netvigator address I use on my MBP and my Mac Pro.
I have set it up by syncing it with my laptop , I then deleted thataccount and set-it up using the Yahoo setting on the I-Pad , I then deleted that and set it up manually . The latter sometimes works but does not have all the mailboxes such as Trash , Drafts , etc .
However , in general...I cannot send mail.

I have tried all of these and none of it has worked .
When I set an account up manually , without using the Yahoo ( BtInternet )short cut , it sets up an account with only an in-box.
When I sync to the MBP it doesnt't send mail , although I hear the swoosh, there is never a mail in the sent box .
When I set up manually , using the Yahoo shortcut , it also seems to send , but actually does not do anything other than make the sound.
I have deleted all the mails and re-set up , using all three methods but to no avail.

I am able to use ICloud on another pc (limited access though) but now I cannot open my mail on my own macbook; it says 'unsupported browser'  any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Relax everyone……..all the services of the iCloud and iTunes are currently down…….
You can check its status at :
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
Apple is probably doing some work on both the iCloud and on iTunes as both are currently down..........it is probably because of the upgrading they are doing that has to be done for the soon to be released Mountain Lion OS......

  • Mail 4.6 unable to send outgoing mail (second gmail account and hotmail account)

I am able to receive mails but I cannot send outgoing mails on my second gmail account and hotmail account.  Both smtp shows that it is "offline."

    Hi Slayzr
I am in the UK and eventually found the problem was due to my BT Home Hub Router.
I found this fix below on https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4604180?start=15&tstart=0
It worked for me.  If you can't link to the URL, here is the body of the text
There's an issue related to the BT homehub that is providing a hostname that is "syntactically incorrect" for several smtp server.
Here's how you can fix it.
Using your internet browser, go to the address "192.168.1.254
    - Follow instructions to reset your password if asked.
    - Then go to "Settings", then "Advanced Settings" and "home network"
You will see there all the devices that are connected or that has been connected before. It's gonna be easyer if yout computer is the only one connected.
Your computer should have a name like "unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ...
Click on this name, chose another name without any special characters, like "macbook" for exemple.
    And then click on "apply"
    - restart your computer.
    That should fix the issue.
Credit goes to vincentfromcork for providing me with the solution.

The password is correct because I can access my gmail account by using the relevant website.

In your server setytings do you have XYZ or [email protected] as the User Name? What Authentication: do you have?

  • When I am on my home wifi I can send e-mail.  When I am not on my home e-mail but on a wifi network or using the 3g network I cannot send e-mail.  HELP HOW TO FIX.

When I am on my home wifi I can send e-mail.  When I am not on my home e-mail but on a wifi network or using the 3g network I cannot send e-mail.  HELP HOW TO FIX.

    I know this question is a few years old now, but I recently found myself having the exact same issues;
Using my iphone or ipad at home created no problems at all, but I couldn't send e mails when away from my home network.
I recently switched broadband supplier at home and set up a new e mail address, then my problems began!
I openly admit I'm not great with technology and, to be honest, some of the answers provided on these forums confuse me more than the questions!
    But this worked for me:
I went along the lines that the fault wasn't with my idevice but possibly with the broadband provider (in my case Plusnet) so I contacted their customer support.
    They referred me to the set up process shown below;
From your home screen press Settings.
From the setting menu, choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars followed by Add Account…
From the Add Account… menu choose Other.
Fill in your Full Name, Email Address, Password and Description and press Next.If you need help with these, there's more detail underneath the screenshot.
Full name: Enter your name (or the name you'd like people to see when you send them email)
Email Address: Enter the address you're setting up, this could be a Plusnet address ([email protected]) or a hosted domain address ([email protected])
Password: Enter the password for your email address (I don't know what this is)
Description: Enter a useful description of the email address you're setting up (e.g. Mum's email). You can put whatever you want here
    Press Next to continue.
More settings will appear. Some will already be filled in.Enter the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server details and press Next. If you need help with these, there's more detail underneath the screenshot.
IMAP/POP This will default to IMAP - it's up to you which one you want to use (I don't know what to choose)
    Incoming Mail Server settings
Host Name: For IMAP this is imap.plus.net - for POP, this is mail.plus.net
User Name & Password: Enter the username and password for the email address you're setting up (I don't know what these are)
    Outgoing Mail Server settings
    Host Name: relay.plus.net
User Name & Password: These are optional, but if you want to send mail while on the move (e.g. while connected to mobile or wireless networks), we recommend filling these in.Enter the username and password for the email address you're setting up (I don't know what these are)
    When you're finished, press Next.
If the box shown below appears, press Yes (you may need to do this twice).
After a minute or two, your email address will be set up and ready to use.If you chose IMAP when setting up you’ll be able to choose whether you want to use Notes (if you chose POP you’ll be taken back to the settings screen from step 2). Press Save when you’re done.
That's all you need to do. To start checking your email, go back to your home screen and press Mail.
Now I fully understand that it may be different for each broadband provider but the processes must be similar.
The key appears to be in setting up the outgoing message server settings in step 5. Where it says "optional, but if you want to send mail while on the move (e.g. while connected to mobile or wireless networks), we recommend filling these in.
    http://www.plus.net/support/email/setup/ios-setup.shtml#pagetop
Where it says "we recommend" I think it should read "you must fill these in"
I went back to Settings - Mail,Contacts, Calenders - click on the offending account and click on the account shown.
Under OUTGOING MAIL SERVER click on the server, in my case relay.plus.net, and click again to show the details. make sure you enter your user name and password and after a few seconds the account will verify and show a load of ticks.
I tried this on my phone this morning while on 3G only. I sent an email to another of my addresses and immediately got the response that the message couldn't be sent as the recipient was rejected and the message had been placed in my Outbox. I followed the above steps and immediately heard the satisfying "whoosh" as my mail was sent. 10 seconds later another satisying beep as my e mail arrived at my alternate account.
Hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.
