Cannot send/receive iMessages

Hi guys.
I have an iPhone 5s (AT&T) running iOS 7.1.1. Ever since I updated to 7.1, I've had issues with iMessage. At the time, iMessages would only send to certain people. The issue was bothering me, so I decided to restore my phone. The issue persisted. When 7.1.1 released, I'd restored my phone and upgraded. Note that I am not restoring from a backup, but setting it up as a new device every time. Only this time, I cannot send nor receive iMessages on my phone at all.
I've tried disassociating my Apple ID and sending an iMessage. When I go to Settings > Messages > iMessage, it shows iMessage as enabled. There is no "activation error," as other users have experienced. When I use another iPhone to try and send a message to myself, even if iMessage is disabled on my end, it shows the blue Send text, meaning I'm running iMessage. I still receive iMessages on both my Macs.
Since I still get internet on my phone, it leads me to believe this is a software issue.
Since I've restored my phone multiple times, and the issue was present in multiple versions of iOS, it leads me to believe it is a hardware issue.
Since I can't send iMessages even without an Apple ID associated with my phone, it leads me to believe it is an issue with AT&T.
Since I can still send SMS/MMS messages, it leads me to believe it is an issue with Apple.
As you can see, there are quite a few of contradictory thoughts I'm having.
Any advice at all is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jacob

Note that I have gone through the procedures listed at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755.
I have also followed a few techniques other users have found who've experienced other iMessage issues (ex. turning off iMessage, resetting network settings, rebooting.)

HOW COME I CANNOT /SEND RECEIVE MESSAGES, BUT I CAN RECEIVE EMAIL?

Sending and receiving messages has absolutely no relation at all to sending and receiving email.
Your iPad is not a cellular telephone.  It cannot send or receive SMS text messages.  It can only send or receive iMessages, which are messages to/from other Apple devices (only) on a WiFi or a cellular network that supports iMessage.

  • Is it possible to send/receive imessages from different countries?

Is it possible to send/receive imessages from different countries?

Yes. iMessage works with any iOS device that has a cellular or wifi connection.
I would recommend disabling the "Send as SMS" option on your phone. This causes iMessage to switch over to SMS if there is an issue with iMessage & can result in your carrier charging you for international messages.

  • Haven't been able to send/receive iMessages since upgrading from 4s to 6 plus

I bought iphone 6 plus 64G to upgrade from my iPhone 4S. I have not been able to send or receive iMessages to iPhone users in my contacts with my cell number. It always uses my email when I create a new iMessage and is able to send that way. I cannot receive iMessages from iPhones to my cell number. which is a huge problem. I have tried turning iMessages on and off and resetting my network and nothing seems to be working. How can I resolve the problem?

If you turn iMessage off and on, does it activate? If not, then see this troubleshooting support document. If you have difficulty activating FaceTime or iMessage - Apple Support
If it does activate, the go to Send & Receive and see if your phone number is listed there. It should be grayed out and checked.

  • TS2755 I cannot send in iMessage.  The send button doesn't do anything.  Any ideas?

My iMessage send function has suddenly stopped.  I can compose a message, but cannot send it.  The send button is blue, but does not seem to be working.  I can receive messages, however.

When I first started using Messages I tried typing the message on the first line. That line is marked Subject but I didn't notice that. Without any text on the second line, which is marked Message I think, the Send button was not available. As soon as I typed the Message on the second line, Send became available. Could this simple solution ble your problem?

  • TS2755 I cannot send GROUP imessage!

    Hi,
I just recently got a new iPhone 4S from the apple store because my last one wouldn't send or receive messages. I had been having trouble with the group message function with the last one, but I thought this would be fixed with the new device.
For some reason everytime I try to send a group message, it just hangs there and totally freezes up my device. I will let it sit for 25-45 minutes and nothing will happen. I have to hard reboot my phone in order to free up the connection.
I have no problem receiving group imessages, but cannot send them.
i have tried the reset to factor, I have toggled iMessage on and off several times, but nothing seems to work.
If anyone can help with this I would really appreciate it.
My whole team at work uses group iMessage and I can't participate.
    Thanks.

I don't see an option for group messaging
settings > messages . (only gives, Imessage - on/off, send read receipts, send as sms, send and receive, mms, show subject field an character count).

  • Curve 8520 cannot send/receive calls or SMS when in range of WiFi - since foreign holiday

Re-posting this in the Curve forum, where it belongs... hoping someone can help.
Recently the whole family went to Spain for two weeks. All four of our phones (a Google Nexus 4, a BB Curve 9300 and two BBCurve 8520s) worked OK in Spain, connected to local mobile networks, sent and received texts and so on.
Since returning to the UK, the BlackBerry handsets have all had problems getting re-registered to our home network (giffgaff, which uses the O2 network, as I understand it). The nexus has been fine from the moment we got back, but the BB handsets are not.
The symptoms: when in range of a registered WiFi connection, the phones cannot send or receive texts (SMS) or make or receive calls, when out of range of WiFi, they do (sometimes) succeed. It is as though the WiFi settings are over-ruling the service books / HRT for the mobile network.
The 9300 seems to have sorted itself out, thanks (possibly) to an OS upgrade. The 8520s remain basically useless.
We have tried: battery pulls, SIM pulls, manual network registration, clearing the service books and re-registering, switching SIM cards between the phones (whichever SIM is in the 9300 works OK, whichever SIM is in the 8520 does not work), OS upgrade.
The network shows on the handset screen, and connection is shown as EDGE. But calls do not get connected and SMS messages fail with "too many retries". Attempts to re-register the handset result in a message being received that the handset has been registered but it makes no difference.
The network provider (giffgaff) say they have done everything they can, and I should speak to "an engineer" - but it seems very unlikely to me that all three phones suffered a hardware fault while flying home from Spain, and that the 9300 somehow fixed itself. So I'm convinced it is a registration issue, but giffgaff are not exactly confident in their support for BB.
So - has anyone ever seen this behaviour before, and how can we fix it?
    Thanks

  • How can I send/receive iMessages from my iPhone 5 on my MacBook Air?

When I first got my MacBook Air (January 2015), iMessages updated automatically upon sign in to display all of my text conversations from my iPhone 5. I also used to see incoming and missed phone calls by default. As of the beginning of March 2015 when I sign in, my MacBook Air does not sync messages from my iPhone at all and I have stopped receiving phone related notifications. Also my MacBook Air is sending all messages from my email address as opposed to my phone number.
I've looked at the Messages help guides for send and receive SMS and activated text forwarding for my MacBook using my iPhone but this still hasn't helped with me being able to see my phone call/text activity on my MacBook as I was able to prior to early March. The iOS is up to date on my MacBook and my iPhone. I've also checked my iCloud and Apple ID and both display my phone number as an eligible send/receive address.
Was there an update that changed a setting? I didn't have this trouble syncing messaging and phone when I set up my MacBook Air for the first time so I'm not sure what else to try. Someone help!

  • Cannot send / receive emails

I have recently upgraded to ML on both my iMac and Macbook Pro. Although they were both fine before, I now find that I cannot send or receive emails on the iMac. I can receive but not send on my Macbook.
I also have a PC, on which I can both send and receive, so it is not the server. All my settings seem to be OK. I appreciate that this has been discussed in previous posts, but I am at a loss as to why one machine half works but the other does not. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

The upgrade to Mountain Lion in this case may have caused the Mail app to lose all of its Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) settings in Mail>Preferences>Accounts.  This happened to me and others in this Forum.  You would need to contact your ISP to obtain the correct settings for these two servers and re-enter them in the above location.  I know, Apple slipped a bit on this one.
    Hope this helps

Ok, I rechecked my router page by page and have found one solution .. .the https management page of the router defaults to 443 - so have changed that to 4443, rebooted router and can now access my http://mydomain/owa - so that is good.  However, still
cannot telnet to port 25 on the exchange server from external.  The port forwarding is definitely correct for port 25.
I have rechecked the receive connector:  MAIL FLOW -  RECEIVE CONNECTORS - DEFAULT FRONTEND SERVER
and under security - anoymous users is checked.   That SHOULD let me connect yes?  But it does not.
Where else does this need to be changed - can you advise?
    regards

  • I cannot send/receive MMS

In my BB pearl 9105 the option ''send MMS'' does not exist!!!!   (i cannot also receive MMS) how can i do??

Actually, for any and all formal support, you start with your wireless service provider. I simply meant to say that the MMS service is not part of the BB-specific services and is instead part of your voice-level services. But support starts the same way...you are paying them for a service they are not delivering...you have the leverage. If your carrier cannot figure it out, they have the ability to escalate into RIM at no fee to you...you have no method to accomplish that (these forums are user-to-user...not user-to/from-RIM).
    Good luck!

  • Outlook 2010 cannot send/receive mail AND states mailbox is being optimized due to upgrade AND outlook hotmail connector needs updating.

As of 2014-March, the same thing happening on my system. This seems to have occurred, after the latest batch of 28 patches (including SP2 - KB2687455) from Microsoft Updates applied on 13-Mar-2014 and 19-Mar-2014.  I have been running Outlook 2010
    since it was first available.
An unhelpful error is thrown, after trying to manually perform a Send/Receive:
    Not Implemented
While in Outlook 2010, clicking FILE > INFO reveals the following warnings in red:
"Upgrade in Progress. Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrade to Outlook 2010. This one time process may take over 15 minutes and performance may be affected while the optimization is in progress."
There's an "Upgrade Now" button but it fails to produce any visible result. Next to the button, another warning in red:
"You must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector to continue using this e-mail account."
Again, I do not have the Outlook Hotmail Connector installed. Nor have I recently upgraded to Outlook 2010.
I am unable to access ANY account settings, as well as poll my various mailboxes.
While reviewing the list of installed updates (Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates), there are 28 approximate patches -
specifically, Service Pack 2 (KB2687455) - that were recently applied to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.
Microsoft, what the #$%# is going on?
I've read some related posts that suggest the core issue is other than what Outlook is reporting.  The posts recommend the following.  However, in my case, the below steps did not correct the
issue.  In fact, the new profile would not allow me to view/manage the associated accounts or data files.
    (1) Remove your current Outlook Profile. No worries - this doesn't affect your mail data (.PST files):
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/outlook-help/remove-a-profile-HP010356455.aspx
    (2) Create a new Outlook Profile:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/outlook-help/introduction-to-profiles-HA010355553.aspx
Note: Outlook complained "An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x80040154."  However, exiting the Mail config window and relaunching shows that the new profile is intact.
    (3) If you previously had the Outlook Hotmail Connector installed, reinstall it.  If not, then just ignore and the warning should go away after creating a new Profile.
    32-bit connector: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24677

I was able to resolve this issue as follows.  However, why it occurred is unknown at this time and
unrelated to a corrupted Outlook Profile, as mentioned on my prior post.  It seems highly probable that it was caused by the recent batch of Microsoft Updates for this product which included Service Pack (SP) 2.
    1) Performed a "repair" of Outlook 2010, via the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2) Rebooted.
    3) Prior to launching Outlook, returned to Control Panel > Mail and configured the location of my PST file (not in default directory).
    4) Had to reestablish as off my mail accounts, settings/preferences/etc. This step was the most tedious and frustrating.
