Cannot set an app as default for opening certain file type

I'm using "MIRaw Viewer" 1.4.3 app to check my RAW video footage from a Canon 5D Mark III + Magic Lantern. I want to open all of these .RAW files with MlRaw Viewer by default. But when I tried to do that on the info window, I get the (-1083) error. I've searching for a solution both on the forum and on the internet, but the solutions I found are notr working for me. I've repaired disk permissions, repaired the disk with disk utility while booting and reseting lanch services on terminal with no luck.
Any help appreciated.
Best,
Pablo

They don't but whatever. Thank you very much. Congrats on your 1900th post!
Oh yeah, didn't notice that. I'm getting old .
You can change the icon to whatever you want by:
1. Opening the image you want the icon to be.
2. Copy the image to the clipboard.
3. Open the Get Info window for the item you want to change the icon for.
4. Select the icon in the upper left, so it's highlighted.
5. Paste the other image.
The desired image will now be the icon.
I also think you can force it to re-do the icon by making a change to the file and saving it. (i'm not that familiar with VLC, so i'm not sure what you can easily change like that).
Good luck!

  • Using Crystal Reports as the default for opening .rpt files

    Hi all,
I know this is a simple question with a simple answer, but I'm baffled, so here goes. I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 and I have the Crystal Report Viewer installed on my computer. I want to open .rpt files with Crystal Reports 2008 as the default application, not Crystal Report Viewer.
When I right-click the .rpt file I have three options, Crystal Report Viewer 2008, Microsoft Visual Studio Version Selector, and Choose Program. When I select Choose Program, then click the Browse button, Crystal Reports is not available as one of the programs to choose.
When I look at the programs available via the Control Panel, I see Crystal Reports 2008, but I'm not able to select it as the default for opening .rpt files. I'm assuming the program file is in my Program Files folder somewhere in the Business Objects folder, but I'm not sure which file I need to set Crystal as the default program. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 12

  • How do I change which application is the (default) for a given file type?

For .pdf files, I have set the application behaviour to "Always Ask", because sometimes I want to open the pdf, sometimes I want to save it. So far so good.
Now, when I want to open the .pdf, I have added an application to the dropdown list, so now I have "Adobe Reader 9 (default)" and "okular".
The problem is this: I *never* open using Adobe Reader. I always want to use okular, but Adobe Reader always appears first on the list, as it is the 'default'. This means I always have to click on the dropdown and select "okular", i.e. an extra step every time I want to open a pdf.
How do I change which application is the default?

Yes, I know that. That was the first sentence of my question, but it is not the problem I have.
I want to change which application is the (default) for a given file type, and this cannot be done from the settings.

  • How to define the application to use for opening each file type (pdf, jpg,...)

I installed an external application, and this new application has been configured by defect that it will be used to open all files with extensions like jpg, pdf, etc...
I want to revert this situation and define again the proper application I want to use for opening each file type. How can I do this in Lion?
    Thanks,
    Azaldier

    Pick a representative file.
    Get info. (Command-i)
There you will see a place "Open with" where you can select the application for that file.
Hit the "Change all..." button to do this for all files of this type.

  • HT2506 how do you set Preview as the default for opening pdf in browser?

How do I set the Preview application to be the default for viewing PDF's in while in Safari?  Previously, while in Safari and clicking on links to PDF's, they would display with buttons on the bottom that made it simple to view and download the PDF.  Since updating Adobe Reader it seems Reader is now the default application for viewing PDF's accessed from the internet.  I haven't been able to figure out how to revert back to Preview.....

I did this and now Safari won't open the form at all.
I put the files back and it opens in Adobe.
When I save the files to desktop they open in Preview. But I am trying to read pdf's(? forms) while in Safari.
Adobe does not work smoothly in Safari and scrolling to read is a nightmare.
    OS X 10.8.5
This problem came up within the last few months.
Before everything opened in Preview perfectly.

  • Default for opening pdf files keeps changing back to 'save file' after I set it to open in firefox

Since upgrading to the latest Firefox version, my options for opening adobe pdf files have changed. I set it to 'use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox', it works absolutely fine, then some time over the next few days it changes itself back to 'save file'. Then I have to open options and change it again. This happened to me some years back with a much earlier version of Firefox - I can't remember how it was resolved, I think it just stopped doing it after a while. But it is most irritating!

I echo the request for Help! I've added Options to my Toolbar so I can more easily change "Save File" to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" as the default. Why does Firefox keep reverting to the save file default?

  • When I open a PDF, I want to choose from 3 applications, not just 2 plus other. How can I change the number of recent applications that get listed for opening a file type?

I'd like firefox to remember the 3 most recently used applications per file type, not just the most recent 2.

On my Windows 7, with any browser, all downloaded files go into the Downloads folder.
If you can't find your downloaded PDF docs, try a search for *.pdf

  • How are user-entered MIME applications defined to open certain file types. This used to be standard in browsers.

In the not-terribly-recent past, browser Preferences allowed users to create associations between a file type (really, a file extension indicating its type) with an application used to run that type of file. Firefox seems to have buried this (on the Mac) in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/... ;in which seem to be an xml file.
Is it possible to edit this xml file directly, and if so, where in the xml file should a new entry be placed, and what is the explicit syntax of an entry (other than obviously copying present entries)?
These used to be called MIMEs.

I am trying to use a rather older programming language called Mozart, an extension of OZ. I installed it as a binary, but instead of storing its component binaries in a place like /usr/local/oz/bin/. they are all enclosed inside the /Applications/Mozart.app/Contents/Resources/bin/. which cannot be opened nor can a soft link be made to it located outside the Mozart.app wrapper.
The only alternative is to try to edit the mimeTypes.rdf files, and give it the full path name to the inside of Mozart.app were the program used for web applications is stored. It is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Mozart/, which can only be accessed in more recent Mac OS X by going to finder and holding the Option key while opening the Go menu; this will make the ~/Library visible and accessible.

  • Setting default for opening zip files IE11

Is there a setting in IE11 that permits setting a default that zip files will be opened and not saved. The option is not where I thought it should be.  Thank you.

    Hi,
Tools>View Downloads... locate your download in the list (if you have not already deleted it. X button on the RHS of the list item).
At the bottom of the Downloads manager there is an options link where you can set the folder where your downloads will be copied to during the TCP download process.

  • Can automator be set to always open certain files types?...

Since screenshots (command/shift/4) always save as PNG files and these are not readable by most email programs, I am always manually converting these to JPGs in order to email the pic. I would like to create a workflow in Automator that would automatically convert ALL PNG files to JPG. Can this be done?
I have created the workflow to convert specified PNG files, but this requires dragging the specific PNG file to the workflow each time. It would be great if automator automatically converted ALL PNG files. Any way to do this?
    Thanks!

I must be doing something wrong. I think I have enabled and attached properly: I right-click on my desktop and enable folder actions and attach the workflow script I created following your instructions. My workflow has these 3 steps:
    1. Get specified finder items
    Name: desktop
Path: (HD path to my desktop)
    2. Filter finder items
Name extension is equal to .PNG (I've also tried PNG without the "." - doesn't seem to make a difference)
    3. Change type of images
    To type JPEG
And if I look at the script by right-clicking the desktop again and selecting "edit a folder action" this is what it says:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    tell application "Macintosh HD:Users:marcgimbel:Library:Workflows:Applications:Folder Actions:jpeg converter 2.app"
    open added_items
    end tell
    end adding folder items to
Any idea what I've done wrong? Thanks.

  • Setting quicktime 7.6.6 as default for opening all audio

I am having a problem getting rid of or even finding an older version of qt 7 (7.4.5) which seems to exist somewhere on my computer and is set as my default for opening .wav files when I need them to be opened with 7.6.6. How can I find it if within my applications and utilities if the only thing that seems to exist there is 7.6.6? Is there also just some way to set 7.6.6 to be the new default to deal with all audio in the future. I know about going into 'get info' and setting the 'open with' option and then 'change all…' but that still only seems to affect the 'all' in the same folder and not on my whole computer. Would be nice not to have to do all these extra steps every time I need to open up a file. Thanks in advance for any insight.

The update is for Tiger and Leopard only, not Snow Leopard.

  • How do I change the default app for opening a file;

If I right click on a file in finder, it tells me what the default app for opening the file is.  it also gives me a short list of other apps.
I would like to change the defaults for several file types, and also delete one app from the short list and add a different one.
    How do I do this?
    thanks

    You could try this:
    - right-click (tap with 2 fingers on the apple trackpad) on a file you want to open in openoffice
    - move the cursor over "open with". You should see the default app, then some suggestions, then app store, then at the end, "other...".  Select "other..."
    - find openoffice in your applications folder and select it  (if it is dimmed, change "enable: " from "recommended applications" to "all applications", then you can select "openoffice")
    - check "always open with"
    - then, click "open".  The file will open in openoffice and from now on, openoffice will be the default application to open the type of file you just opened.  You should also see the icon of all files of the same type change to the openoffice file icon.
This is supposed to work, but that's not always the case, especially when the default app happens to be an Apple app.  If you don't want to use that Apple app, delete it (or move it elsewhere if you want a backup). That can help.
    Good luck!

  • Setting Photoshop CS5 as the default for opening all photo files?

How do I make Photoshop CS5 the default for opening all photo files?

Close the jpeg in Photoshop! This procedure is done on an unopened (closed) file in the finder, Photoshop is not involved.
Open a FINDER window, click ONCE to select your file (NOT double click to open it)
Command I or in the Finder, File menu, select Get Info.
In the GET INFO window, change the Open With item to Photoshop
Click the CHANGE ALL button, You will get the warning "This change will apply to all Adobe Photoshop CS5.app documents with extension “.jpg”.
Click CONTINUE and from now on all jpegs double clicked in the finder will automatically open in Photoshop
