Cannot set printing defaults on 8500 A909g Officejet Pro Wireless

After a whole year, HP has STILL NOT told us how to set printing defaults for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g all-in-one so that the default settings really stick for everything.  For example, how to make the machine print everything Back-to-Front reliably.
Please go to THIS LINK for the related thread in these forums, and please provide any suggestion you may have.
Bad show, HP !

  • How set printer defaults for a printer

My motivation is to have my wife's new MacBook always print double-sided. Currently she needs to select the preset that we've made for printing duplex, but that's easy to forget to do.
    OS is 10.4.7
Is there a way to set the printer defaults in this OS?
I want to have duplex just be the default, even after reboot, and if she wants to print single-sided then she'd need to select the other preset.
BTW: If it makes a difference -- We're using a Xerox 8550DP, for which the duplex selection is in the standard place of Print -> Layout -> Two-sided -> Long-edged binding
(Some other printers require using the duplex selection in their own printer's section under that Copies & Pages dropdown menu but not this one.)
Maybe I'm just not a very good searcher. I searched many here, MacFixit, MacWorld magazine, generally on the web. Looked in my David Pogues's Tiger book and Andy Ihnatko's Tiger book. I came up with nothing about setting printer defaults at all.
I bet I can tweek it in a pref file. I hope I don't have to resort to a hack to do something this standard.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I think you can do this. Set up a two-sided setting,
and save it. Print with it. Then find the preference
    file com.apple.print.custompresets.plist, choose Get
    Info, and lock it.
If you want to save another setting, you will have to
    unlock it.
Hey this is only a workaround but it is a pretty darned good workaround, especially because it's not too invasive (only locking a pref file at the user level) and what's stored in that custompresets.plist file is com.apple.print.lastPresetPref, which is probably the key to your suggestion. I think I understand it, anyway.
I followed that procedure, created a Custom Preset with duplex turned on which I named "Standard Duplex", then locked the file you suggest that's in my user's home Library. It survived app switching and a reboot. It seems to work great, and I can still use the Standard setting as well if I want to. I even chose the custom setting and although it's locked the temp changes I made were enacted (I chose to print this page, scaled to fit a #10 envelope) and that worked too. The Standard or other presets can still be chosen when you want to use those, and the app remembers the last setting through the rest of the session, it's just that upon opening an app the default is now my custom "Standard Duplex". This does what I want.
I think this is a great workaround. I'm going to go load it onto my wife's MacBook. I suppose I should mark this solved even though there's no real, y'know, user-manual way to do this. Maybe something I'll just hope is a feature in Leopard.
Thank you Bruce and all the other helpful folks who pondered on this one! Heh, I'm sure 1/2 of the tree population thanks you too.

  • Xcelsius Scenario Button cannot set the Default Scenario

    Hi,
I am facing a problem with the Scenario Button in Xcelsius the problem is i cannot set the Default Scenario in the Dashboard .
I can save load delete the the scenario but if i have 3 scenario and i want to make one of them as default is does not work.
I think there is some browser setting for this and i have already configured the storage setting for the browser .
    Warm Regards,
    Mishra Vibhav

    Hi Thijs
Thanks for your update, I think this really helps me. And I have one more question.
I have seen a SAP notes regarding the Scenario function, the content is as below.
You use the Local Scenario button to save the final result of a specific simulation (created scenario) and return to it in the future. It only saves the scenario on the local machine where it was created. So you can access the scenario from the same machine, but you cannot transfer scenarios from one computer to another.
As per the note we can't transfer scenarios from one computer to another, my question is: If we publish the dashboard to inforview and save the scenario, the scenario will be saved in the BOE repositary or still on the local PC, and could the scenario be able to share among different users?
    Thanks a lot

  • I cannot "scan to computer" with my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g ) - The option has been enabled

I cannot "Scan to Computer" with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g - The option has been enable in the HP Utility - but I receive a communication error message  - I'm connected to the computer using a Linksys Wireless Router and I am using OS X 10.5.8 - I can print wirelesly and I can use Web Scan, so the connection is good.
How do I resolve the issue?

    petergole,
To make sure we aren't dealing with a software problem lets try to uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
    2. Highlight your device on the left pane
    3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
    4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
    5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Finally, use this guide to reinstall: http://goo.gl/Na4Qm

  • Printing custom sizes on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus from Macbook Pro

I am having trouble setting up a Word Document (Word for Mac 2011) to print in a custom size on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I'm using a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.
I would like to print on a card stock that is 4.5 in x 13.5 in.  I have tried under Page Setup to create a custom size under Manage Custom sizes, however, I'm hitting a brick wall.  The printer gets the job but can not feed the paper.  I've also tried to set my default paper size under my System Preferences/Printers and Scanners to be this size...still not working.
    Please help!

    Hi @klinecard
It is important to ensure the paper size you are selecting is a supported size, and make sure the weight is supported too.
Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printer Series
    Please look under paper handling.
If your desired size and weight is supported, you might find the following helpful; Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X
Truthfully, since you are not getting an error message, I suspect you have correctly setup the custom size, this issue is most likely the printers inability to feed the paper you are using.

  • How to adjust for distorted colors printing on HP 8500 A909g.

In regard to HP All In One 8500 A909g.  Photos look great on computer screen but print with an overall red hue.  I can eventually adjust the color to get a good print but it wastes a lot of ink getting there.  Why doesn't my printer print the colors on the screen? And is there a way to permanently adjust the color?  Computer is running Vista.

Thanks for your time, I've included links to 2 HP documents that may help you with the issue you are having with print quality.

  • How to set printer default to Tray

Just purchased an Epson WorkForce 845 all-in-One. The printer has two paper trays. Paper tray #1 can be adjusted for paper size and envelopes. Tray #2 can only handle 8.5x11 inch paper. I would like to set the print default via ethernet to use tray #2, with a separate saved setting to use tray #1 for envelopes. After trying to do this via the Print & Scan System Preference in conjunction with a print dialog in Pages, the printer sent back an error message to the Epson WorkForce 845 printer status window.  I eventually deleted the printer from the printer list in the System Preference and reinstalled it. Everything prints normally if each print job is set up each time in the application print dialog. That means reloading paper or envelopes after each type of print job. The solution is probably pretty simple, but so far, has eluded me. Any thoughts?
2011 iMac 20.5 inch using OS 10.7.3 with 12 MB Ram via ethernet.

I just got this printer (Workforce 845) and had similar frustrations with the unit as it defaults to print tray 1.   This is the only tray that will hold 4x6 photo paper, so everything, including the test page, printed onto the photopaper.
I am running on a mac runing Lion 10.7.X
I  tried many things including contacting epson and they said "On a Mac, you are unable to change the printer's default settings."
The trick is to use the printer pop up (accessed when printing) by selecting the drop down in the middle of the screen that, on my mac, shows that app's name that is running.  Select the "print settings' line and set the tray to cartridge 2, then save this as the default by going to the printer 'presets' drop down (second from the top) and select'save current settings as Preset...".   It's really pretty simple, but I wasted a lot of time trying all the other options, so I thought I would try to save others the hassel.
This can be seen in the user manual under: http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/wf845_/wf845_ug/index.html
    Additional info:
Access to the printer can be gained from your browser by going to URL: http://epsonbb82c2.local./PRESENTATION/HTML/TOP/INDEX.HTML?
but this didn't help to configure the trays, but it does allow for a firmware update that I decided to try.
Epson's late response to Lion drivers (you must download these from the Web and they warn against using the CD drivers that come with the printer if you run Lion) and there poorly implimented  mac s/w drivers tainted my first impressions for this product.

  • Set print default settings to grayscale?

Is there a way to set the default print settings to grayscale like you can on a Windows computer?
I have an HP Photosmart B210E, but the only way to print grayscale all the time is to be sure to set it on File/Print's dialog or replace my printer with a Grayscale only one.

Mine is with OS X 10.7.2. Hope this helps.
    1. Once you click print from whatever applications of your Mac. It should be like this
Then click drop-down list. Go to "Quality & Media", as in above picture.
    2. In "Quality & Media" menu, mark on "Grayscale printing" as shown in below picture.
    3. Go to "Presets" 's drop-down list. Select "Save Current Settings as Preset..."
         as shown below.
    4. Choose your Preset Name, as well as its availability. (see following picture). Then click OK.
    >>>> Now you're done.
Next time you print, just select from Presets' drop-down list as you saved it!

  • Cannot set the default value of an item in the detailed table

    Hi,
I have Master-Detail group, both are Table formats.
I need to set the default value of an item in the details row to the value of an item in the selected row in the Master table.
I tried Default Display Value=#{row.MasterItem}, but it seems it is trying to access current details row instead of the Master.
I tried #{bindings.MasterGroupColumnName.inputValue}, but it does not work.
    Any ideas
    Thanks in advance
    Mohamed

I think I now what I'm doing differently, I had the "New Rows" JHS property of the detailed table group "empty" instead of the default "2" value.
It seems that "Default Display Value" expression works only for the new records specified in the "New Rows" property. But when I try to "Add" new record using the "Add Row" button, the new record inserted does not have the default values generated, only has values populated for the items of the FK (in the view link) but not the ones set through the property.
I guess in a nutshell, how I can get the details item to behave like the FK columns?
    Thanks much
    Mohamed

  • How do I print grayscale with an HP Officejet Pro 8600?

I have an "HP Officejet Pro 8600 Pro e-All-in-One" printer. Can I print grayscale or black and white with it?
I'm running OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. In System Preferences for Print & Scan, I chose the driver called "HP Officejet Pro 8600" (rather than the default of "AirPrint"). In the print dialog box, under "Color Matching", I select "ColorSync" rather than "Vendor Matching" and get a list of seven ColorSync profiles as shown below, none of which are grayscale or black and white.
Am I simply out of luck because HP hasn't provided the necessary feature?

With the most recent batch of printer drivers, the vendors have provided their own grayscale setting rather than creating a ICC profile and adding it to the ColorSync library. So if you set Color Matching back to Vendor and then change from the Color Matching menu to one of the HP menus, maybe there is a Grayscale option available this way.
With reference to my Canon MP990, I don't use HP so don't know the menu names, I have a Quality menu and within here is the Grayscale setting.

  • Setting up scanning from an HP Officejet Pro 8610 to a MacBook Pro

Product Name: HP OfficeJet 8610Operating System: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion This may sound like a problem you dealt with this February, up to a point. I purchased the OfficeJet 8610 this weekend to replace another printer that went belly up. My main functions are printing and scanning -- the functions of my business. First, my connection and set-up overview: Stand alone OfficeJet 8610 connected through a Belkin router and an Amped Wireless repeater home network. Home system consists of a MacBook Pro, iPad and Android Tablets, iPhones and one Windows laptop. Set-up for printing from all devices happened without problems. My problems came when I wanted to scan. In trying to set up to scan, I came to the understanding that I needed to establish a path for the printer/scanner to communicate back to a folder setup to be a Network Folder on the computer. So I proceeded to go through that setup and got to this final page:  Network Folder SetupStep 4: Summary Top of Form Confirm your settings, and then click "Save and Test" or "Save Only" to complete the configuration. Display Name                 ScansNetwork Path                 \\192.168.2.3\My Documents\ScansDocument Type             PDFColor Preference          ColorPaper Size                       AutomaticQuality Settings            Text - 300 dpiContrast                           0Filename Prefix             Scan Bottom of Form  Below that was the button to “Save and Test.”  When I did that I got the following error message:
“Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again.”   The page in the setup procedure that asked for my user name and password looks like:  HP Officejet Pro 8610Embedded Web Server      Scan -Scan to Network Folder Network Folder Setup  Network Folder SetupStep 2: Log-in Authentication Top of Form Enter the log-in user name and password for your computer to allow the printer to save scanned documents and images in the network folder. User Name Password           i   Your user name and password are stored, encrypted, in the printer memory    I normally don’t use a password on my MacBook Pro. I just turn it on. I’ve tried resetting my password in “System Preferences” on my MacBook Pro. No matter what I enter on the above page I can’t seem to get the system to do anything but give me the error message above. Can you help me?

Welcome to the HP Community , I came across your post about the error message “Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again", you are noticing on your Officejet 8610 when trying to set up scan to a network folder. I have a new HP Pavilion g6 Notebook and an HP Officejet 4500 Wireless printer.
The printer will print regular documents OK but will not print directly from the Internet. I get a message that says 'an error has occurred in the script on this page'.  If I save the Internet page to a document file, it prints OK.  Any idea how to fix this?

I had the same problem.  The printer worked fine with all my documents, but would not print anything from the internet.  I tried several fixes that didn't work.  Then I realized that I was using the 64 bit connection and when I switched to the 32 bit the problem was solved.
