Cannot Set-up gmail in iPhone 5

Hi
This is Sunil Akella from Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
I have recently purchased iPhone-5, and I am not able to set-up gmail account. A smart phone without personal email account is very embarassing to maintain.
I connected to Wifi in my organization, and ensured I am able to connect to the internet and I followed below steps to set-up gmail account.
1- Touch on Mail Icon
2- Select Gmail
3- Provided Name, email, Password and "Next" button.
Now at this stage it pops-up a message saying " Cannot connect Using SSL.. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL ? Yes/ No
4- I selected Yes
After sometime, one more pop-up message appeared saying
" The IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field"
I really don't understand, when I am able access any site from the Safari browser in my iPhone, why it says "check your network connection"
I have ensured in my gmail settings : General-:>Browser Connection-> Selected the option : "Don't always use HTTPS"
Forwarding and IMAP/POOP -> IMAP Access : Status says- IMAP is enabled
Please help me in resolving this issue.

I bought an Iphone 5s and just tried to add my google calendar -extra easy to do in an old fashion Samsung, but in the iphone I got this message:
Cannot connect using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL, Y/N
I click yes
Then I got a second message
The IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the “Incoming Mail Server” field.
I clicked OK and nothing happened.
Please help.
I am starting feeling a bit disappointed.

  • Cannot set up gmail for iPhone 4

    Hi,
I just got an iPhone (thru Verizon) and wanted to set up my Gmail account.  However, I keep getting an error message saying "Cannot Get Mail.  The use name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect.  I've triple-checked my account and password, and those are right.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

i ran into the same problem today when i got my new iphone 4 S and trying to setup my gmail on my iphone 4 S. it was not working until i followed the video on youtube.com.
you do not need to do anything besides follow the steps in the video and it worked for me.
    this is the video:

    SOLUTION:
    1) Settings
    2) Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    3) Add Account
4Scroll all the way down on the list and pick Other (DO NOT PICK Gmail from the list - THIS DID NOT WORK for me)
    5) Add Mail Account
    Name: Your Name
    Address: [email protected]
    Password: Your Gmail Password
    Description: Your Gmail
    Incoming Mail Server:
    Host Name: imap.gmail.com
    User Name: [email protected]
    Password: Your Gmail Password
    Outgoing Mail Server:
    SMTP: smtp.gmail.com
    That's it! Good luck

  • Setting up gmail on iphone or ipad

have set up gmail account on ipad or iphone. On borth devices I get  a message saying imap username or password incorrect. Username & password work if I log onto gmail via internet. any ideas?

Your account has most likely been locked by Google. Google does this quite often when setting up mail on a mobile device to stop spammers. That link should have provided you with info on how to unlock your account. Google used to have a captcha unlock page. Look here:

  • Cannot set up btmail on iPhone 5c

I Cannot set up BT Mail on iPhone 5c.  Have followed all the settings and advice on BT website and forum. Keep getting message that username or password not recognised. Can access BT Webmail and send and receive. Any advice?

The iPhone has a feature of allowing your mail settings to be imported from your computer's mail client's settings when you sync the computer and the phone using iTunes. Open iTunes, connect the phone, click on the phone in the left hand column. Then open the Info tab and check the Mail settings and select the mail client you are using, either Outlook or Outlook Express. Then sync and the settings should be exported into the phone.
If that doesn't or hasn't worked, open your mail client and look at the settings for the outgoing server. Manually enter the same settings in your iPhone. You don't have to guess whether to use SSL when you already have this info in the settings in your computer.

  • Can't set up gmail on iphone

I am having trouble setting up gmail on my iphone

If you changed your password, and you have 2 step authentication turned on, you need to generate a new device specific password for the phone.

  • Cannot set up Gmail in new verizon iphone

This is my first time using an iphone and I'm a little lost.
I need to set up my gmail on my new iphone. I've already checked my mail account, and I do have imap/pop forwarding enabled.
I go to mail, Gmail, enter my info, and it tells me that my username and password are not correct for imap.google.com. So then I went to mail, other, entered all my info, and entered the imap and smtp addresses. Still didn't work. So then I went to https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha, unlocked my account, and IT WORKED!! For an hour. Then every time I tried to check my mail, it said my password or username was wrong. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get gmail on this iphone?
Then once its on my phone, is there any way to only have it show incoming messages as of today? - like on blackberry? I have a lot of old unread emails in my account and would rather not have them showing up on my phone.
    Thanks so much!

All I did is follow the instructions provided by Google on their website for accessing a Gmail account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail app. No problems whatsoever.

No. Completely different from a Blackberry, the iPhone's Mail app communicates direct with the incoming mail server for an email account - no different from accessing the account with an email client on your computer. Not through some 3rd party dedicated email delivery service located in Canada that all email accounts accessed with a Blackberry must be routed through which provides some non-standard features that are not available when accessing an email account with an email client on your computer or with the iPhone's Mail app.

  • Cannot set up gmail account - keep getting SSL error

I cannot seem to set up my gmail account on my iPhone. Actually I deleted the account because it would not update at home and when trying to re-add the account now I cannot. I keep getting the SSL error which asks if I want to continue without SSL, if I push yes it does not work either, just says gmail verification has failed either way. I have read up on others responses and none have worked.
I have tried following the link to unlock my gmail, setting up my gmail account through the "other" option instead of gmail, turning off my firewall (I have a locked wireless connection at home) and even changing my gmail password. Nothing has worked.... PLEASE help!

Okay so I was able to set up my gmail account at work, BUT I do not get automatic notifications anymore when I have a new email like I did before.... Any ideas why and how to fix this?

Make sure your iPhone 4 is using iOS 4.2.1. This is the first version that has Find My iPhone for free.

  • Playbook 2.0 cannot connect to Gmail

Well RIM BlackBerry Playbook 2.0 is here and it's dissapointing to learn that it is just as big a pile of %Y%#  as 1.X.
Cannot set up Gmail through any of numerous different ways. (Gmail, IMAP, Exchange... you name it.)  All different ways generate all different kinds of errors such as cannot connect at this or username and password is wrong.
It's really great to see we waited 8 months for nothing.
    Anyone have any helpful ideas?

Not sure about yahoo, but for gmail, I done the following:
Set up using Exchange on iPhone, it'll keep prompting for password.  On PC use captcha option, log in to gmail account from PC after completingg captcha option, enter password on iPhone.
See how that goes for gmail, let us know.
Hopefully someone will have fix for yahoo.

  • Just set up my new ipad Air and cannot set up my gmail account into mail ?

Just set up my new ipad Air and cannot set up my gmail account into mail ?

    EASY SIMPLE FIX....
    The problem is Google.
I had the same problem, couldn't install Gmail on my ipad or iphone and kept saying wrong / incorrect password, error messages. Worked for hours and hours on this.
It is Google's (optional) 2-step verification system that is to blame.
Google won't tell you this, and instead, they have come up with work arounds, and even telling people to install the Gmail iPhone/ipad app, which then limites the iphone/pad functionality when not using iphone's native mail.
    FIX:
    Logon to Google...
Go into your Google account preferenes
DELETE your cell number used for 2-step verification...... leave it blank
(it is optional, Google does not require you use 2-step verification)
    Thats it. Your'e done.
Now set up your Gmail (now called Google) as usual on your Apple device.
You don't need 2-step (optional) verification.
There are other secure ways to do this. It is an option, but Google goes out of it's way not to tell you this.
(and a great way for Google to gleen your personal information, in the name of security)
    Hope this helps someone.

I downloaded apps with one appleid on my iphone.  When my account was disabled I set up a new appleid & account.  Now I cannot update apps on my iphone that were downloaded with original appleid when I login with my new apple id.  What do I need to do?

You can write into support and ask for help reenabling the account through this link here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
Since the applications were purchased on the older account, you will need to log into that account to update them. The newer account will not recognize the purchases because they are not a part of the purchase history for the specific account.
