Cannot set up POP mail - only IMAP?

For some reason, I cannot set up my iPhone to retrieve mail from a POP3 server. There's no option to choose to set up a POP account specifically, and it keeps failing, telling me that "The IMAP server pop.myisp.co.uk" is not responding. It also seems to insist on trying to connect over port 143, which is IMAP, not POP.
What do I have to do to set up a POP account? Has POP support been discontinued for IOS4?
This all worked perfectly well before the IOS4 'upgrade'...

Problem was the POP/IMAP button at the top of the screen was not displayed, as the screen was partially scrolled - in other words, the button was only visible by dragging the screen downwards to see the button at the top. Very odd, but at least I got it sorted out.

How to change POP mail to IMAP and what's with Microsoft Exchange 2007?

When I set up two of my email accounts I had Leopard. And I set the email accounts up as POP mail accounts. But now I want to change them to IMAP accounts because my school recommends the school email as being IMAP and I would like to change my main email to IMAP. My more recent email set up as IMAP.
But every time I try to make a new email it tries to set up as Microsoft Exchange 2007 and I don't even know what that is. I would rather have it as IMAP because that's what I've been told to use. I have never been good at setting up email.
So may someone please help me.
I would just like to change these accounts that are set up as POP mail into IMAP.

Since installing Firefox I cannot send Yahoo pop mail from my Outlook

I have always used Outlook for my yahoo mail under the normal POP3 set up. For many months I have been using Outlook 2010 for my yahoo mail in this way. I just installed a Slingbox and Firefox to make that work. Now my Outgoing yahoo pop mail won't work yet my inbound does. All the SMTP settings are as prescribed by yahoo when trying manual set up, and Outlook 2010 cannot set up automatically either (as it was previously able to do). All advice gratefully received.

Try deleting and readding the account. Yahoo has been having issues for weeks. Sometimes it's them. Sometimes with the iOS6 upgrade you need to reenter account info.
Another workaround can be to access yahoo via safari and access your mail that way until it works out.

Cannot setup 2nd POP mail account

When I go through the settings adding another pop mail account, I do not have an ADVANCED button to add the specific info like I do on the first POP mail account. This is a necessary step otherwise when I save it times out unable to connect.
The manual says there should be an ADVANCED button which there is on the first mail account buut not on subsequent accounts????

When I added the second mail accoun to Outlook, it synced in just fine and an ADVANCED button was active. But I don't really want Outlook to pick up the mail for this particular website as I use Outlook Express for that purpose, but you cannot sync with bothe Outlook and OE. Of course deleting the mail account in Outlook removes it from theiPhone and I am back to square one.
Any ideas?

When I save the settings it bombs because it attempts to verify and the security (advanced) settings are not set yet.
Ther error is:
Secure Connection Failed.
The certificate "[email protected]" may be invalid
My login requires the full email address as the username plus I need to change the SMTP to port 26 and requires auth

Question about setting up pop mail on my iPhone

When I try to set up my pop mail account, I get a message saying the account cannot use SSL and asks if I want to proceed without SSL. Is this just an added security layer? If I say to proceed, will the account be set up, and will it be secure?

If the incoming mail server for your POP account does not support SSL, you can't use it with the account. The account should be set up when proceeding without using SSL since it appears the email account provider for your email account does not support using SSL.

Retrieving POP mail only when I want to ...?

Hi everyone,
I would like the option to retrieve mail from my pop account (non exchange) email account, but only when I want to. So when I'm at home, or in my office, and have access to my mac, I don't want my iPhone to retrieve the email. And leaving it on the server is not convenient either. In my prior phone, a sidekick, I could turn off and on a toggle for whether I wanted the phone to retrieve email from that account or not. Is there a way to do this? I have mobileme, and could use that if that would help. THANKS!

Aye, "Push" mail only applies to accounts that support it, which is, as of now, MobileMe (protocol unknown, looks like a modified version of "ActiveSync"), Exchange "ActiveSync", YahooMail! (IMAP-IDLE).
All other accounts will either download at the fetch interval specfied in your settings, or if you tell them too, manually.
(You can also tell Push capable acounts to Fetch or Manual download as well if you prefer)
If you have a MobileMe account, have you considering just getting the emails forwards to your @me.com address?

Cannot set up AOL mail for iPhone

How can I set up AOL mail to receive on my iPhone in the "All Inboxes" location. I have deleted my old AOL account and added a new one with same user name and updated password but I receive the message that "wrong username or password for imap.AOL.com"

Problems setting up POP mail accounts on E71

i am having problems to set up my POP email accounts on my E71. the first account works, but only retrieves email- it won't send any.
the secong POP account is a gmail account and i have set iit up but it won't even connect. if anyone knows, what are the correct setting for security (Ports) and port number? i used the same setting as in my laptop but it just won't connect on the E71.

How to set up POP mail

I have a pop account I would like to attach to my IPhone.
I put in my pop settings as guided on the phone and it is not working. It get an error message saying the certificate could not be verified for that address. I then press continue and it then says Cannot Connect Using SSL and asks me if I want to set up without SSL. Whether I click yes or no it's the same outcome that the connect fails.
Any one have any suggestions. I have been using a blackberry for years where it was quite easy to set up in minutes..compared to this.

All the email options you stated below work. When I am on my phone I am go to Other and trying to add a pop account through there. The account I am trying to add is my business email account. I can sign into it through Safari, but I was just trying to get the email to come through the phone so I did not always have to sign into my email account using a browser.

I've spent 6 hours changing the incoming/outgoing server info, I've tried every conceivable address, and still the account will not go "offline." I have followed the Mac mail instructions. I have accessed every possible tutorial online. Please HELP!

What server are you trying to access? It might be that you need to assign a particular port, SSL, etc. Can you post a screen shot of your Account set up? We might be able to help. Most ISP's or web-based servers have specific instructions on how to set up an IMAP or POP account.

Setting up a mail server IMAP + SMTP with an external DNS

Hi guys,
I'm not sure if i will be 100% clear in this message because i've got a slight pain in the head because i've been trying to get a mail server running in Tiger Server the entire evening.
So here's my problem: The server i'm administrating needs to gain a mail server. For the first time in my life i have to set one up and i'm not to happy about it. I've tried to follow everything in the manual but it isn't working at all.
This is my server situation: Domain registered by a friend points to DNS server of my ISP which creates all the Entries which all point to my server in the datacenter. On that server i need to get an IMAP + SMTP server running.
I've tried everything and I even got the IMAP part working at one time (people could send emails to a temp. account on the server) but after altering the setting so i could send email everything went wrong. No receiving or sending.
Please help me out!

Cannot set field in mail rule

Hi - I have been trying to set the following rule in Mail:-
For any email older than 30 days then move mail to mailbox XXX.
I set the parameters correctly and save the rule, but everytime it reverts the value from 30 days to 7 days, i.e. if I rep-open the rule in the preferences then it says 7 days rather than 30 days.
Any idea what's wrong?

Keep in mind that most of the code for all the apps was re-written for Snow Leopard, so I am hoping things like that were just overlooked and will be corrected eventually as people point them out. But, that might be getting too close to speculation, so that's as much as I'll comment.

Setting up pop mail on iphone 4s

Trying to set it up, receiving mail is working fine, can't send mail. I know a lot about this stuff, but Im having a problem in the settings.
When I try to send mail it tells me it needs a password. So I go into the outgoing settings and enter the password, it verifies and seems to think its working. Well if I exit out and go right back into those settings, the password is not there. It's just not saving it.
This seems like a bug with the phone. Anyone else experience this? So irritating!

Just an update, I checked to make sure all the settings are correct, and they are, it just looks like the iphone is unable to save my outgoing mail username and password. As soon as I back out of it, it just resets them to blank.

Cannot set up iPad mail account

I have just bought an iPad. Setting up the internet connection was fine, but I am having trouble with mail. I want to set up my Tiscali e-mail account so I am using "other" e-mail set up.
I have put all the data in to the required fields, but when I go to save the set up I am given a message "unable to verify SSL". I have tried to save the account not using SSL but I get a similar message.
I would be very grateful if someone could please help me out.

Cannot set date& time and only computer and settings icons are showing

I am having difficulty with my appletv(MC572LL/A). It will not set the time & date after it downloaded the last update. It just stalls saying "setting date and time". I have reset the system and even re-installed the latest update to the unit but get the same results. Any suggestions?

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.
