Cannot Shutdown

I have just install solaris 8.0 intel, but i don't know how to shutdown the machine peacefully, I have try the command shutdown but at last it prompt me to press ctrl+d to initiate normal startup or enter root password to enter maintenance mode. I have also try using init 5, but also fail. Could anyone tell me what to use to shutdown the machine. Thank a lot!

Did you ever install Speedtools? If so that is a well known cause of failure to shutdown. I believe that in order to truly get rid of it you need to run the installer/uninstaller that came with it.

  • Cannot shutdown OC4J after error on servlet

    Hi
    I've deployed an EJB to the OC4J contaniner. Created a servlet that access the container and deployed it to the OC4J. Because the two components don't reside on the same application the servlet cannot access the Home Interface Class of the EJB and generates an error. After this error I cannot shutdown OC4J using the admin.jar with shutdown nor shuwdown force. }
I'm using JDeveloper9i RC with the container that comes with it.

    Hi Nestor,
I don't know if this will help you, but a similar problem was
discussed in a separate forum on OC4J. Go to
    http://www.elephantwalker.com
Search for a thread with a title something like "JSP on machine A
looking up application on machine B".
Hopefully the ElephantWalker himself will see this and supply you
with more detailed information regarding the relevant thread.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

Same problem here since an upgrade to the recent xbmc version.
    - hal removed
    - udisks and upower installed

    I start X via /etc/inittab:
    x:5:respawn:/bin/su lynix -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c 'startx xbmc'>/dev/null 2>&1"
    and my .xinitrc is:

  • Cannot shutdown Oracle!!

    Hello DBAs,
We use 9.2.0.1.0 on Windows 2000.
This morning I could not get Oracle to start. The alert log stated that datafile UNDOTBS01.DBF could not be read. Error codes ORA-00376 and ORA-01110.
I mounted the database via SQL and brought the file online and opened the database.
If I try to shutdown using
    SHUTDOWN NORMAL;
    I get
ORA-00376 File 20 cannot be read at this time
    ORA-01110 datafile 20 'UNDOTBS1.DBF'
(We have both UNDOTBS01.DBF and UNDOTBS1.DBF)
If I try to bring UNDOTBS1 online I get
ORA-01113 File 20 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110 file 20 is UNDOTBS1.dbf.
    If I try to RECOVER AUTOMATIC DATABASE;
I get ORA-00283 Recovery session cancelled
    ORA-01124 Cannot recover datafile
ORA-01110 Datafile SYSTEM01.DBF in use or recovery.
If I look at DBA_DATA_FILES all the datafiles are online including both UNDOTBS01 and UNDOTB1.
So I cannot shutdown or recover the database.
    Any ideas.
    Thanks,
    George

Thanks for your reply but I closed it eventually using shutdown abort.
    Thanks again,
    George

  • Iphone4s cannot shutdown after ios6 upgrade

I just updated my iphone4s with iOS6, but I cannot shutdown/reboot my phone. Separately, the round button in the front and the button on the top right of the phone works. I don't know how else to shutdown the phone. Any help? Thanks.

So, even though this is an older thread, here is my deal.  I have a 2010 Volvo XC60. Previously, I had an iPhone 4 on the same OS (and my husband as well) and both worked fine with the Volvo USB port. Got the new iPhone 5 in November. I think it had 6 or 6.0.1 on it., but it was the same thing as my iPhone4. Plugged in the 5 with the new USb/lightning cable and got the dreaded USB unreadable. A few days later, while tinkering online, I read an article about restarting the phone, so I did that. It then worked fine in my car. However, when I did the same tricke with my husband's phone, no beans. I just had to exchange my iPhone 5 for a new one with Apple because of battery issues and now the dreaded USB unreadable is back!!! My phone is on 6.0.2. I have tried all the tricks and nothing works. I am so bummed because I specifically bought Spotify to play in my car, and now I can't even use my car's hardware. Anyone out there have any suggestions? I tried turning it on and off and even restored the settings on the phone and did an on and off and no luck

I recently overheard this conversation at a customer's office:
developer: "How do I restart the database?"
dba: "You open the putty, you know, that black window, type in sqlplus and then type in shutdown abort."
When I interfered and asked why "shutdown abort", he responded: "Because typing shutdown only sometimes doesn't work." From that moment, I was handled by him like some moron, who doesn't know such basics... :o)

  • Help - cannot shutdown the machine, always reboot

Hi I has used archlinux for a year. Since kernel 2.6.29, I cannot properly shut down the machine.  Every time I run "sudo halt " in terminal, the shutdown process starts normally, all services are stopped, the hard drive stops normally. But then it reboots itself
More than that, if I run halt command at grub, the machine will reboot too. But after I run halt command at grub for the second time or or the third time, the machine shuts down eventually
This happens in my machine for kernel 29 and 30
Do you guys experience the same problem?  Thanks

I always use 'sudo init 0' to turn off my PC and 'sudo init 6' to reboot it.
    3 and 5 I use for turning off/on X.

ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (450) exceededAs you can see your db hit maximum number of processes. You can kill pmon OS level or you can go wiht shutdown abort as mention here. I suggest after shutdown abort, before start your db increase your process value.
Also please do not forget to check your alert.log during all your process

  • Satellite M100-165 cannot shutdown - turns itself on after a few seconds

    Hello!
I have the same or very similar problem to those described in threads:
    Link: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15325]
    Link: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=109125]
When I try to turn off my Satellite M100-165 ("Turn Off" in Windows or even by pressing the power button while I'm in BIOS) it turns on after a few seconds. It doesn't turn on when it works on batteries. It also doesn't turn on when I press the power button for 4 seconds.
I tried to recover system with recovery CD (Windows XP Home). I also tried it with Windows Vista. Still the same.
Actually I have BIOS version 2.90 (upgraded from version 1.90 as far as i can remember) but with earlier version the problem also existed.
I think that when I had BIOS version prior to 1.90 this problem didn't existed (but I can't remember number of that version).
    Thank's for all suggestions.

    Hello
It is very unusual issue and, for me, there is no some simply explanation. It will be interesting to know what Toshiba experts say about this. Make a call and let us know what they say.
The strange is that the same happen with two different operating systems. I cannot say for sure why this happen but your notebook is somehow confused and obviously change shutdown with restart. If this is result of BIOS update service people should know about this.

  • Cannot shutdown listner...

hello people...I have a bugger of a problem
I recently installed oracle 8i on Win 2000
and i unistalled it successfully , however, the tns database listner is always activated upon booting up my laptop beacause i unistalled without shutting the database/listner first. Because of this i cannot delete the whole oracle folder?
any ideas would greatly appreciated on how to tackle this. If don't get help then I may have to resort to changing my career and become a traffic warden.
    Kindest Regards

    Hi,
This group is for discussions on the Oracle Repository. You'll get a better response for database questions on one of the other groups.
The solution to your problem is to use the MMC Services tool in Windows 2000:
    Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services
Locate services starting with "Oracle" in the first column. Shutdown the services using the context menu, or change the startup type combo box to "Disabled" in Properties for the each service and reboot.

  • MacBook Late 2008 (Unibody Aluminum) running Lion cannot shutdown, restart, or logout

After upgrading to mac os x lion, my macbook has not been able to restart or shutdown or even logout properly. This problem was not present when the laptop was in snow leopard. Currently, I am able to do a shutdown through the terminal by using the command:
    sudo shutdown -h now
or restart by using the command:
    sudo shutdown -r -h now
This is fine for most situations but when I am trying to install an update or a program that needs a restart, I am unable to do so. When still at the login screen, I am able to shutdown properly leading me to think that a process is preventing shutdown but I can't find anything in the console. The power button also becomes unresponsive (normally pressing it brings up the window asking whether to shutdown, restart, etc.) and can only be used to do a forced shutdown (i.e. holding it down for 10 seconds). The sleep, restart, and shutdown functions in the apple menu also do not work.
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Windows XP cannot shutdown after installing latest Flash Player

Anybody know what is wrong with latest version of flash
    player?
i installed the latest version of flash player (download from
adobe), when I need to shutdown my Windows XP, the system does not
allow me to shutdown. I have to terminate the process
    install_flash_player
Appreciate if anyone can advice me..

Haven't ever heard of Windows not being able to shut down
at all because of a certain process. If anything, it'll ask
you if you want to terminate it, and you just hit ok and it
    continues shutting down.
Not to call you a lair or anything, just hadn't ever heard of
that, so I'd try re-installing the Flash Player first and foremost.
Don't just download the same player and install, first download
their flash_uninstaller, then re-download the flash player, and
    install it.
