Cannot sign on to iChat using MobileMe Account

I've just changed my MobileMe password. I try to sign on to iChat and no go...get a dialog asking for my ID and password. I change my iChat password (in preferences) for my iChat MobileMe account and still no go.
I notice the following:

This basically says that under 10.4 (I'm on 10.4.11) you cannot have a MobileMe password longer than 20 characters...mine was exactly 20. I change it to 17 and still no go.
Is there something that I am missing? Is there any kind of propagation lag associated with changing my MobileMe password and having it available to iChat? (I'm totally reaching here).
Any ideas would be welcome...

Hmmm, noticed in iChat preferences that my password was always being truncated down to 12 characters. This was not obvious until I stopped and restarted iChat.
So, I changed my MobileMe password to 12 characters and it works.
Hmmm, maybe the value discussed in:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2498
should be 12 characters and not 20.
If I'm missing something please let me know.

    I am beginning to see more threads that suggest that something may be up with the Google Servers.
    In iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Server settings tab try changing the port to 443 (With SSL still selected)
    It may be that in a couple of days the Google Servers will get back in sync.

    Sorry to hear about the login problem. The resolution depends on the error you're getting. If it's more like a username/password issue, you can retrieve that by choosing Forgot password option.
    Let me know if there's any other error message.

For some reason I cannot make another account, i get the following message "You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID.": However I do not recall ever making a MobileMe account since i don't have an Iphone. What can I do? i already tried using different email addresses but i cant seem to make a @mac.com address. Really don't understand why?!

    Of the IDs from Apple  (As opposed to those used to Create an ID) only the @mac.com and MobilMe ones work as Valid AIM Names.
    New MobileMe (@Me.com) names are not possible until the iCloud launch.
    @mac.com name require that you link it to another Email.
    However that Email must NOT be one already used for another Apple ID
    (The password also has to be 16 characters or Less due to the Limit on this at AIM)

    Hello cindydenenberg, many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
    Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
    To clear cache and cookies do the following:
    #Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
    #Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
    #Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
    #From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
    #Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
    Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
    If clearing cookies doesn't work then maybe the '''cookies.sqlite''' file that stores the cookies is corrupted. Try to rename, or delete, '''cookies.sqlite '''(cookies.sqlite.old) and delete also '''cookies.sqlite-journal''' (if exist) in Firefox [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile profile folder] in case the file cookies are corrupted.

  • Cannot sign in to my UK itunes account

    I have just moved to Canada and created a Canadian iTunes account on my iMac. This all works fine and I can sign in and out no problem.
    However I cannot get back into my UK itunes account (this has all my movies and TV shows that i use for my Apple TV).
    I have even reset the password and still nothing. Yet i can log into Apple ID no problem. All I keep getting when I try and sign into itunes using my UK username and password is "We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes Store at this time" So annoying, been a few days now.

    You were violating the termw of service of the itunes store.  This cna lead to the termination of your account.
    From the terms of use of the itunes store:
    "The Service is available to you only in the United Kingdom. You agree not to use or attempt to use the Service from outside this location. iTunes may use technologies to verify your compliance."

  • I downloaded AIM today and now I cannot sign back onto ichat, help?

    I downloaded aim and i can open the ichat application but I cannot do anything else with it. Most of the options when i click the various "Ichat,file, edit, view..." etc are faded and I cannot click anything!

    Do you have iChat Open ?
    In the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts section iss the Screen name set to Allow Multiple Logins ?
    Also in the General Section is the Option to Set my Status As Off-line when you Quit iChat selected (if not you are still logged in).

  • IChat using AIM account suddenly won't work with MAC accounts

    Hello,
    Our company is all Mac and uses ichat on a daily basis for employees to communicate around the world. I have a user in Canada who is experiencing a perplexing problem.
    Until recently, her iChat text ability worked just fine, whether it was to another user with an AIM or Mac ID. She is using an AIM ID. However, there are now 2 users that have Mac ID's that she is unable to receive or send text messages from. If they send her a message, it shows she has an incoming message but she cannot open it. Nor can she send them a message. She can however, video chat with them. I thought at first it had something to do with her having an AIM account and them having Mac accounts, but she is still able to send and receive messages from all other users with Mac accounts.
    I have gone through all her settings that I can think of; nothing is blocked. I asked her if she noticed the problem after an update or something like that. She thinks she was prompted to do a software update shortly before the problem started, but she's not 100%. She's on a MacBook running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and iChat 4.0.2 (604).
    Any insight into fixing this would be greatly appreciated!

  • Cannot send email from iPhone using Outlook account

    I cannot send or reply to emails using my att.net email account. I always get the message, "The sender address was invalid". I can receive emails from this account.

  • Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

    Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
    When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
    When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
    Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
    Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
    Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.
    I am running Mail 2.0.5 on Tiger 10.4.3

    Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    None that I'm aware of.
    The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
    Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
    If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

    Was working perfectly until recently. Incoming mail still ok.
    Now get error message when sending mail "Cannot Send Mail - The connection to the outgoing server "smtpout.secureserver.net" failed.
    Have tried various fixes including using cwmx.com server, other ports and SSL on and off but no luck.
    Have spoken to Godaddy support but they can't help as say must be local issue with iPhone.

    I've read over your posts and see that you've both tried a few different troubleshooting steps with our support. The next step would be removing the whole email address from your iPhone and setting it back up. When you set up the email address, you should use the step by step walk through instructions available at http://help.godaddy.com/article/3423.
    SizzyB, please note that cwmx.com is an AT&T specific server. Your UK provider might list a comparable SMTP server as a default or you might need to contact them to get their settings.
    Joe, I would also like to note that you would specifically need to have our Unlimited email plan to utilize the IMAP service feature.
    If either of you have further issues, please post the full details (including any errors messages you receive) and we'll continue to work on a solution.

    I have had an active mobileMe/ICloud account for years.  When I try to log in it says the sign on or password is incorrect.  I go to the ICloud page, sign in and I get
    right in.  I am trying to sync my calendars and other things between my IPhone and my Mac.

    In order to be able to make full use of iCloud you are going to have to upgrade your operating system. The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
    To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
    Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
    Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
    The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
    MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)

    the best solution for this is go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset all settings. 
    This will not delete any data, but only settings & this might resolve  the issue.

    Unfortunately, OSX 10.6.8 will not support iCloud. You can use the mail address from the iCloud account with Snow Leopard bot not the rest of the iCloud features. You can access then via the web browser though at iCloud.com.
    To set up iCloud mail.
    Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
    Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.
