when i open iWeb i have a grayed out file i cannot open a new it does not open with templates?

Download and install the 1.1.1 update to iWeb from here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iweb111.html
Install right over your current version, and it should solve the problem.

Cannot start a new paragraph by hitting 'enter'

There is a strange misbehaviour with my freshly installed InDesign.
I cannot start a new paragraph as I type. I have tried all the keyboard combinations (fn\ctrl\shift+enter) but it doesn't work.
I have vista.
Any ideas what's wrong? Please help!

If you're on a laptop and are using the Enter/Return key on the number pad, this might be the problem. Search Google for terms like "InDesign enter key not working" without quotes for good references, even if you're not on a laptop.
[EDIT] Also Search Google for terms like "InDesign editing shortcuts" without quotes, for references on customizing shortcuts.

When I try to start/open a new file, I am getting this error message:
"The file 'print.ai' is an unknown format and cannot be opened".

This refers to one of the startup profiles.
Try and:
- repair permissions on your system
- rebuild the preferences in Illustrator

I have recently had Captivate 7 installed. It was installed through a share drive, so to improve performance, I had to (Through preferences; change the Publish at and Cache locations to my local drive. This did speed up performance but cause two big problems:
1. When I open Captivate 7 and select a New/Blank project, nothing comes up. Stage stays blank. I cannot open anything even templates
2. When I try to start a new Video Demo I get a fatal error message; "A fatal error has occured and the application is being terminated. Adobe Captivate has tried to save all your work in the respective project folders as ".cpbackup" files. Please restart Adobe Captivate" Help

Your desktop? And where is that pointing to? If your My Documents folder is on the network then in most cases that's where your desktop would be also, because it's normally part of your user profile.

Cannot Start a new project with a mapped network drive

When I try to start a new project with Encore and save the file to our network cluster (An Isilon Server), I get a file not found error message. When I try to do this to a local drive, it works just fine. None of the other Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) have this problem with this network drive.

Yes, it worked on the local drive, and also to a Windows Networked Server that was not the Isilon. Even after creating the project and moving it to the Isilon, it was generating error messages after a few minutes of use. The Isilon is using a BSD variant of Linux and Samba. The really strange part is the all other Adobe products from the Production Suite work with this server without any problems at all.

IMAQ Create for compressed .avi - cannot open the new file afterwards with IMAQ Open

i hope i'm in the right board.
I recently tried to compress avi-files i collected from various cameras throughout the last years.
At first i used VDub and ffdshow with a FFVH codec - it worked fine as long as i won't try to open the compressed avi using IMAQ Open.
I googled a bit and read a lot in these forums, tried several solutions - none of them worked.
So i gave it a last, let's call it fail-proof, try:
I took the original .avi (uncompressed, openable with IMAQ Open) and used my newly gained knowledge to use LV for the compression work, i chose from IMAQ AVI Get Filter Names the ffdshow Video Codec and built a small read-write for-loop to convert the AVI frame for frame.
All worked fine despite the problem, that i still cannot open the compressed file in IMAQ Open - and i do not know why.
I would be glad to force labview to decode and open the compressed file with a certain codec, but i found no option for this.

I think it is possible that EZ is saying he/she wants to use
Audition to add audio to his/her Captivate projects. Taken in that
context, I wonder if she/he could advise the steps taken, and what
the results were. Be happy to help once we know the software
involved, and the exact problem.
On the other hand, it is entirely possible that it was
storming real hard out, and he/she just wandered in here to get out
of the rain ... in which case, Rick's link might be just the trick.

Sun Studio 11: Cannot create a new file

When I want to create a new *.h or *.cc file in my CVS mounted directory tree, studio raises it's famous "Unexpected Exception" dialog with a java stack trace. I have them prepared if you want, I just wanted to check before if there is some already known bug or advice. This worked flawlessly on Sun Studio 10.
As for source browser (another topic in this forum), yeah, I would also very much like some kind of source browser, e.g. to be able to find all definitions/calls to my virtual method, have a class hierarchy...
And one final note on the constant problems in communication between NetBeans and XEmacs, especially if there are two or more XEmacs windows open. Initially all works ok, but with time it starts...source error hyper links from make/build window and search dialog fail to open and position in the source file, then it can't open a file from Filesystems window, and when I restart the SunStudio, everything works again for some time.
This was most annoying in release 9, then somewhat better in 10 but still present, and I see now nothing is better in release 11.

Sun Studio IDE can manage several XEmacs windows.Why? Because it is a great help to be able to watch two different buffers/modules at the same time when writing source code. If there is only one window with many buffers, I have to either split window in two (Ctrl X 2) or continuously switch between two buffers, which is annoying.

If the Messages Menu has the Preferences Option greyed out it tends to mean the App cannot "see" the .plist for this properly.
Apart for the iMessage Apple ID you entered how many other Buddy lists do you have ?
I would start with the Address Book.
Open this and check that the Head and Shoulders icon in the card with your details. (Messages uses the info and if it is wrong there can be issues).

You can get your missing file from an original windows installation disk.
To replace it you'll need a bootable CD or DVD to start your computer then put the file system (note that there is no extension) in Windows/system32/config/

I'm recording video on JVC HD camera.Every 13:54 it starts a new file.I have one file that won't play.I get this message:Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized. Only happens this one file.Ideas?

I can't open one Quick Time movie file. It says: Quick time player can't open (names file) because the movie's file format isn't recognized. Only happens on this one file. All the others of a two hour shoot are fine.

Thanks this was useful. I have been ripping my audiobooks and I was finding that they would get uploaded to iCloud in the process, which in itself was fine, but then iTunes would not let me change the media type to Audiobook, which is annoying as it effects how iTunes treats the media. Like showing you the skip back 10 seconds button.
The general outline here helped me work around the issue and change the media type before the media was re-uploaded to iCloud.

"Plug-ins not currently available" keeps popping up. Cannot edit old or new files.

I just downloaded Illustrator CC a few days ago off of the creative cloud for my Mac OS X. I was able to work on projects and everything just fine. Today I tried opening the projects I had been working on, but what came up on all the files when I tried opening them was a window saying “The document ‘name of document.ai’ contains elements that are managed by plug-ins that are not currently available. You can delete or expand these elements but you cannot manipulate them in other ways. The miss plug-ins are listed below.” and there would be different plug-ins listed depending on what project it was. It would not let me edit anything on the AI files.
I tried restarting my computer but than for a while was not able to open AI at all and a window “Missing Required Plug-ins: PDF Format.aip” popped up and shut AI down every time. I looked up some troubleshooting online and found some advice for putting foreign plug-ins in a separate file and restarting AI holding “command, option, shift”. I did that and was able to open AI again, but the same problem and window as the first time came up.
I tried starting a new file, but the same message would pop up with and it called my new file “print.ai” even though I clearly didn’t make and name a file yet. I even tried creating a new file from template and using a stock template like “CD cover”… it opened up and I could move the shapes around, but still no creative tool bar. I can’t even get into AI preferences. Any help troubleshoot would be much appreciated.

The missing required plugin pdfformat.aip issue was there in some user machine on 17.1 update and the solution available unfortunately is to uninstall Ai and reinstall.
On what version of Ai are you facing this issue.

We have no idea of this issue of yours because you have not told us anything ( except rant)
Describe what you are doing to start a NEW PROJECT...then tell us what happens! eg error messages, crash, beachball....smoke, steam, flames....
Tell us about your system, hardware and set up.
