Cannot start itunes as 'Updating Library' come up and jams

Since i downloaded the most recent itunes update, when i have tried to get itunes working, it has opened up and a grey box with a blue loading bar has popped up, saying 'updating library'. It updates as normal, until it gets about 65% of the way through and then it jams and says itunes is not responding. I can't access itunes while it is updating, so there is nothing i can do about it. I have tried reinstalling and have tried downlading an older version and none work.
Anyone have any idea because im thoroughly stuck at the moment?

that's typically caused by a problem with a content file or files in your collection.
tracking down which files are causing the issue can be a pain. but the "Check for content files with issues" section from the following document may be of some assistance:

  • Cannot Start iTunes after update

    Hi all,
I recently tried to update iTunes to version 10.5.2- I uninstalled the old version (10.5) and downloaded and installed the newest version. However after installing iTunes 10.5.2, when I tried to run it I get the following error:
"iTunes helper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7"
    followed by:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)."
I Googled the error and found some suggestions to repair Apple Application support from the Programs and Features Control Panel, and to re-install the .NET Framework 4.0. After doing that I no longer get the first error but I now get this: "The program can't start because icuin36.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I also still get the second error.
    EDIT: I am on Windows 7 x64.

Hmm! I wonder if there are windows system file corruption that prevent you from completing the install.
Can you go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
    Then do the install.
    Good luck.

  • I have updated to Itunes v11. Now I cannot start Itunes from my computer

I  have updated to Itunes v11. Now I cannot start Itunes from my computer. I have tried clicking both on the short cut icon, the program file and the application file. The hour glass appears for a second then nothing. I have tried copying an audio disc and nothing happens.

Are you getting an error message number with your unknown error? If so, what's the error message number, please?

  • I cannot start iTunes.

I cannot start iTunes.  A message box comes up that says: The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannont be read because it was created by a new version of i Tunes."  I did just update iTunes, and had a runtime error.  I addressed this with the advice of TuringTest2
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24611030#24611030
That resolved the runtime error, but still am totally unable to open itunes.

Hi, I've go some slightly updated advice for the original issue is here.
As for the not "library cannot be read" issue, this is usually a sign of a library that has been damaged during the upgrade. It can normally be fixed with the technique in Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash which would restore ratings, playlists, play counts etc. otherwise lost if you reimport the media.

  • I`ve got a message error 7 or windows error 1114 and i cannot start itunes

When I start Itunes, I`m getting the message R6034 the C runtime library is been misplaced and then another message with the error # 7 or Windows error 1114,
    so I cannot start itunes.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thank you.

I've got the same error as soon as I start up iTunes 7.2
if you want to downgrade to iTunes 7.1.1 then follow this link
    http://www.oldapps.com/download.php?oldappsid=iTunesSetup7.1.1.exe
then upgrade when apple comes out with a more stable upgrade.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
    Does iTunes launch properly now?
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

    Hi gnaksung,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It seems like you're trying to update iTunes 10 on your Mac, but the update options are not working.
You may find the troubleshooting tips and download method in this article helpful with updating iTunes:

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works

  • I cannot get Itunes to update my IPod.  I am at a loss

I am a seasoned IPod user. I just transitioned to a new PC and cannot get Itunes to update my Nano IPod. I have downloaded new versions of ITunes and updated my IPod software. ITunes sees the IPod but does not transfer any songs or playlists---help

What the user before me is trying to say pretty quickly is, Be sure that the settings in iTunes are set to update your iPod.
    1) Plug in your ipod
    2) Click the button with the ipod on it, about fourth from the right at the bottom (bottom right corner)
    3) Manual (choice 3) is probably selected, Select automatically update all songs instead (choice 1).
Does this help? If not, let me know.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    =======================================
    Reinstall - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.
