Cannot start Lightroom 5.6, it keeps crashing Windows 7

Can anyone help?!
For the past 2 weeks, I have not been able to start Lightroom 5.6 at all, as each time I do Windows Explorer crashes seconds after I click the Lightroom desktop icon - only forcing a laptop shutdown by turning off the power frees Windows afterwards. 3 re-installs - the last after deleting the saved Lightroom catalogue - have failed to cure the problem, which I suspect has been caused by a Windows 7 update from Microsoft.
Interestingly, Adobe Photoshop 6 - which I also had on my laptop, started having the same effect on Windows at exactly the same time.
Is there a solution?
Chris

Yes, Microsoft has sent out faulty updates, and then lots of people complain. As far as I know, that's not happening right now.
Have you ever heard of coincidences? You're walking down the street, and you see a penny and you pick it up and that night, your favorite sports team pulls off the big upset. It must have been the penny!!
Hardware malfunctions from time to time. Sometimes it malfunctions at about the same time as a Windows update. Just something to think about ...
Anyway, you would need to see if the video driver for your graphics card is up to date. Probably you can do that on the web site for the manufacturer of the graphics card.

  • Lightroom 1.4.1 keeps crashing

I have used Lightroom 1.4.1 for years with no problems. Now, after trying to download some pictures the other night, Lightroom "quits unexpectedly" and keeps crashing! How can I solve this problem and still save my catalogue?

When Lightroom is closed look in your My Pictures Folder> Lightroom, there will be several files there including your catalog file. If there is a file ending with .lock delete this file then restart Lightroom. See the attached screen capture. Make sure you do not delete the actual Catalog file.
When Lightroom it creates this .lock file next toyour catalog file, ensuring there is no other access to the catalog. The file gets deleted automatically when Lightroom is shut down. However if Lightroom is not shut down normally then it will remain in place and prevent Lightroom from opening.

  • New computer, windows 7 64bit, installed 18.0 but it has never started....it keeps crashing. Help....

I have never been able to start it on this computer, it crashes everytime. I do have crash reports but I don't know what to do with them,

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lightroom 4.1 RC2 - Keep crashing

    I downloaded lightroom 4.1 RC2 cause the 4.0 was crashing ( randomly )....
Now i have the same problem using a SINGLE monitor with the release candidate 2 of lr 4.1...
when i change setting fastly, lightroom simply crashes.
I am seriously thinking to go back to version 3 and get a refound by adobe. My studio had to process over 3k images at day and it's impossible to work with this new version.
    i am working directly to 5d mk2 cr2
    My pc is a windows 7 sp1 64bit:
    quad 9300
    8gb ram 5-5-5-15 geil black dragon 8500
    crucial m4 ssd 128gb
    ati 3400 hd
dual monitor ( actually i am using one monitor cause of the known bug of crashes and wrong saturation and contrast in secondary monitor issue )

I am also crashing on Win7 64bit...but not just Lightroom, it actually crashes my whole machine. I'm on a fresh install of Win7 with only CS6 & Lightroom installed. Lightroom so far has been the only program to cause this, and it typically happens when I'm adjusting filters or moving sliders for example. I'm guessing it's when I'm taxing the CPU/memory a bit...However, when performing the same type of tasks in Photoshop, AE, etc., I have not experienced any crashes. I've ran some diagnostics on my memory as well as my hard drives to hopefully rule out any hardware issues, and it all seems to check out OK. Because it's crashing the whole machine, I'm unfortunately getting no feedback in the system/error logs. I'm at a loss right now, and it seems others are only having application crashes.
    System specs:
    Windows 7 Pro - 64bit - Service Pack 1
    Intel i7 960
    6GB RAM / (2) SATA III 2TB Drives
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 w/ Dual Monitors

  • Trouble with AIM and IChat! Cannot connect to IChat, and AIM keeps crashing

I just got my Macbook, and installed AIM. However, it often says "AIM shut down unexpectedly." Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Also, I want to use IChat, but i try to connect, and I can for a few seconds, and then it says "Connection with AIM lost." I'd appreciate any suggestions or advice!

I used to have the same AIM problem. Have you tried Adium instead? If you haven't heard of it, it's an instant messaging program that uses your AIM account but is specifically designed for OS X. It looks nicer too.
    Hope it helps!

  • ITunes will not start up... Keeps giving Windows Error Message.... help!!

My Itunes will not start at all... When I try to start it I get a Windows Error Message saying below:
*iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.*
*In the Error Window The following is there...*
    _AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 8.0.1.11 ModName: quicktime.qts_

Can Anyone help me as I can’t use my ITUNEs and am Handicapped when it comes transferring ITEM on and OFF my IPHONE...
    Thanks

That error suggests you may have a QUicktime problem rather than an iTunes problem.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
If so uninstall them. They are bad news for Quicktime.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

    Hi!
It sounds like you're having trouble with Firefox for Desktop. I'd recommend contacting the Firefox for Desktop support forum here: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop] ; they'll be more knowledgeable and better able to answer your questions than the volunteers here at the Firefox OS forum.
    I hope that helps you!

  • After installing mavericks Finder keeps crashing

After installing Mavericks I cannot use my Mac as he finder open and reopen continuously. Also in safe mode. I also cleaned the list of apps  starting after login,  but it keeps crashing. No way of solving this through other threads here.
    What can I do.

I'm having similar problem with my MBP mid 2010 2.4 ghz, 6gb ram.
In my case every time I point at Share combo box in a file contextual menu i get finder crashed and i have to force quitting.
Looking at the log I managed to find that 'com.apple.ShareKitHelper' every 15 secs keeps on logging error messages.
Can anyone give an hand on this?
    Thx

  • Flash Player keeps Crashing. WTF!

I am using a Dell Laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit operating system. I am not trying to do a whole lot, but while going to certain websites that use flash player, it locks up then crashes. I have not really had these issues until about 1 to 2 months ago. Now I cannot go onto any Facebook games without them crashing. I cannot play any videos on Youtube. Pretty much any website that has flash player on their page causes it to crash.
I am so frustrated because I cannot get anything done and everything keeps crashing! Help! Please!

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Browser
    Flash   Player version
When reporting issues with video or audio, it's also helpful to get your system hardware and driver details.  Instructions for finding this information can be found here:
    Windows
    Mac
Finally, sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player.  I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform.  If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing.  You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.
    HTML5     video
    Non-HTML5 video
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • X61 - SD Card Reader - (Code 10 - the device cannot start)

    Hi.
One of our users in RTX Telecom Denmark have a problem with his X61.
Everytime he insert a SD card to the reader it comes with this error message:
Code 10 - the device cannot start.
We have tried all the Windows hotfixes, reinstalling the drivers from:

restarting the machine, but nothing helps.
Do you know anything about this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

I have now tried with the preload without any luck. Or that is not completly true, I could put a 1 gB Kingston card in the computer and it would pop up. But it also freezed the computer from time to time.
If I took the card again after a freeze, the computer went back to normal.
But out of 6 SD cards, that was the only one I managed to get working.
I tried all kind of sizes:
    64 mb (no luck)
    512 mb (no luck)
1 gb (kinda worked - sometimes freeze)
    2 gb (no luck)
    4 gb (no luck)
    8 gb  (no luck)
So now I have called Lenovo support and they will come and fix it for me.

As explained in the Oracle documentation, it normally should be very easy to upgrade using the UpgradeAssistant (ua.bat).
But when trying to apply the upgrade, we encountered an error and the UpgradeAssistant would cancel the process and return “failed” as upgrade state.
Several tries later and analyzing the log files of the assistant, it was obvious that the java components of the BI weblogic server
were not started properly, which led to the failure of the upgrade. The log file(s) are located at $ORACLE_HOME\upgrade\logs .
Just for clarifying, this is the error the assistant threw at us:
    [2011-03-31T15:11:31.500+01:00] [BIEE] [ERROR] [] [upgrade.BIEE] [tid: 15] [ecid:0000IwCDvHF3r2o_sTS4yX1D_8XV000006,0] javax.management.OperationsException: Unable to start process: instance1: coreapplication_obis1[[

Unfortunately, you will not be able to find help or guidiance among this error message on the internet or the Oracle forums. I really don’t know why, but all you find are “Upgrade-How-To’s” with zero error explanation.
Looking at Window’s own server logs using the Server Manager, it was discovered that there was some kind of problem with
the OraPlc11.dll, which is part of these required components. I actually discovered this because I tried to startup BI weblogic-server
separately, which causes these java components to be started, too.
Their health status can easily be monitored by the OracleProcessManager utility (opmnctl.bat can normally be found under $ORACLE_INSTANCE\bin .
Using ‘opmnctl status’ while starting the weblogic server throws the components health as output inside the console.
As expected, the components (in this particular case OBIS1) would not go any further than initializing, while in the Server Manager tool under “Diagnostics\Event Viewer\Windows Logs\Application” there would appear a new error message throwing the following error related to our component(s):
OraPlc11.Dll cannot be loaded. OS Error message: The specified procedure could not be found.
We double checked our complete installation for the existence of this file (we simply used the windows search and looked up OraPlc11.dll).
We encountered this file three times; First in our 11g installation folder (D:\oracle\client11gr2\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin), being 110 KB in size, second in our $ORACLE_HOME\bin folder being 97 KB in size and third in the rcu directory under “transfer” (D:\transfer\ofm_rcu_win32_11.1.1.3.3_disk1_1of1\rcuHome\BIN), 80 KB in size.
We knew that the 110 KB OraPlc.dll was used at the moment, so we tried using the 80 KB OraPlc.dll by renaming the 110 KB – dll to OraPlc.dll.old and copying the 80 KB – dll into our oracle installation (D:\oracle\ client11gr2\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin).
Then, we restarted the OS, started the BI weblogic-server via console (the start/stop script is found under $ORACLE_INSTANCE\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication), monitored the component status until all 5 reached the state “alive”, and then we started the UpgradeAssistant via console (ua.bat is located in $ORACLE_HOME\bin) with the additional parameter “–logLevel TRACE” for more detailed log information. We then went through the assistant as usual and described in the Oracle documentation. The upgrade process succeeded this time (ignore warnings).
Hope this will help other people encountering this problem in the future.
    Greetz,
    Felix
