Cannot start non-apple programs

I just installed 10.4.7. Now it seems that I cannot start non-apple programs. Those programs give me the error "The application "Photoshop" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "-<application><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_PrintCore>"
I am used to my mac simply working.

itunes 11 will not install on my Windows 7 computer because it cannot start the 'Apple Mobile Device' service, what can I do?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • Non-Apple programs crash at startup

I recently updated my mac and now whenever I try to open certain programs like Microsoft Word or Google Chrome, they immediately crash.  It seems to affect only some non-Apple programs, so Safari and TextEdit and Itunes all run, but even these are freezing up sometimes.  I tried reinstalling Chrome, but this didn't fix the problem.   Does anyone have any ideas?

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk for OS 10.6.8 and under. If you are running 10.7 or 10.8 run Disk Repair from Disk Utility on your Recovery System. It shows you how in the link.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
    Then Repair Permissions.
No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

  • Cannot start up apple tv

We just purchased an apple tv. We are trying to set it up. It cannot start up. The apple logo sometimes will show up for a few seconds. The screen is blank.

Welcome to the Apple community forest4.
You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

  • I cannot start my Apple Mobile Device Service.

Both my Ipad and Iphone 4 are not recognized in Itunes.  I can sync, transfer and backup but there is no icon for the devices so I cannot delete photos.  I have tried to stop and restart the Apple mobile device service.  I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes.  Does anyone have any other solutions?

    Hello schatter,
It sounds like your iPad and iPhone 4 are not recognized in iTunes. You have already done some really good troubleshooting steps, and thank you for providing all the steps you have already taken.
I found an article that has a few more steps for you to take in regards to this issue (you can skip the steps you have already taken):

NOTE: ONLY a *bootable clone* is good enough. A backup cannot be used for the purposes I have mentioned above.
Any full backup is good enough.
The only difference between a bootable clone and a full backup of everything like TM makes is that one can be used to start up the machine and one cannot. Both can be used to restore the machine to the previous state. Many people tout the benefits of a bootable clone, as you can boot from it and use it in the event of an emergency, but this is actually quite a bad idea unless you've got a couple other backups. Working from a backup after the originals have been lost could lead to a failure of the backup as well, and then both copies are gone if you only had that one backup.
To the OP... take a look at the [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> I referred you to.

  • Sound not working for non-apple Programs/plugins

I can't seem to get any sound out of flash based websites, excel (when saving for example), or several other apps.
Quake 3, and itunes still work perfectly fine.
Also, since this happened, quicktime video playback is very choppy (stopping for up to 10 seconds at a time).
This happened after installing Flip4Mac, but I've uninstalled it and nothing has changed. I can't watch youtube at all. I've turned the volume settings for the system and for the actual youtube player all the way up and down and I've seen no change.
I can view the video (and websites) but I get no sound. The same thing occurs on other user accounts on this machine as well. Very strange.
The ads on Apple.com work fine with sound and smooth playback, but MPG videos on my computer don't seem to have sound and play very choppy. The Startcraft 2 gameplay demo plays fine (AVI) and WMV's work, but MPG's and flash sites don't have sound.

  • Apple programs will not recognize Internet connection after Tiger upgrade

In January, I posted the question below. I wanted to update it, but this site has archived it and will not allow responses. In the hope that I may help someone else, I am repeating my question, now that I have the answer.
    ===============================================
    ORIGINAL PROBLEM
Last week, I upgraded from 10.3.9 to Tiger. Ever since then, I have had trouble using Apple's programs that require internet usage: Safari, iTunes, Software Update, etc. All of these programs think I am not connected to the Internet. But I am; I can use Netscape, Internet Explorer, and other non-Apple programs on the web.
Furthermore, it's not consistent. Sometimes Safari will recognize the connection. I'll be using Safari, looking up websites, when suddenly it will quit connecting, giving me the message, "Cannot connect to the server," no matter what server it is, even apple.com (so I have to use Netscape to access my .Mac and this Support screen).
    How can I resolve this?
    ==============================================
The problem was that my Earthlink Access software was setting a proxy on my connection. Netscape & Firefox worked because they ignore any proxies; the Apple programs (plus Shiira and Internet Explorer) didn't connect because they use the proxies.
Why did it sometimes work? Well, if I first used Safari to go to a secure website of my bank, somehow that opened up the connection and then I could continue to use the Internet and Internet based programs like iTunes and widgets. However, if I tried to use an Internet-based program before going to the secure site, then it wouldn't work.
After months of phone calls and e-mails and sending data packets and all such stuff with Apple Care, they finally stumbled upon this answer: Uncheck the proxy box. And that did it. At first I had to uncheck it every time I started up the computer, but now it stays unchecked and I can use my Apple programs with no trouble.
I just wanted to share this with you in case you also had trouble with Internet connections after upgrading to Tiger, because I did see several other people had this same trouble.
Movable flat-screen iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25Ghz processor, 256 MB memory (DDR SDRAM)

For the record, could you state each Proxy box you ended up unchecking please? I'll attempt to submit a user tip with credit to you for finding this solution.

  • TC as Extender for Non-Apple Router?

I have given up on my TC as a wifi router and will be replacing it with a Buffalo AirStation N450.  I'm going to leave it connected to the network to continue to use its internal drive and I would also like to use it as an extender for the Buffalo.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  Has anyone used a TC or an AEBS to extend a wifi network from a non-Apple router?

    LaPastenague wrote:
You cannot extend non-apple wifi.. with an Apple router. To make it clear the TC can be client of the buffalo but not repeater. That is also a poor way to do thing with repeating slowing wireless by half.
You can use EOP adapters and run the TC as a roaming wireless access point. That is relatively easy.
That answers the question.  An EOP adapter was my second choice, although using the TC to extend the network is less important than keeping its internal drive on the network for Time Machine backups.  I've never been satisfied with its wifi performance and I've finally gotten fed up enough with its wifi glitches to replace it.

  • HT1369 Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed and mobile programs associated with my non apple cellpho

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • Cannot update itunes10.6.3.  I get no errors. I repaired all of the apple programs and it still don't work.  Acts like it wants to start but doesn't.  Thanks in advance

I cannot updated itunes 10.6.3.  I receive no errors.  I repaired all of the apple programs as suggested in other discussions but it still don't work.  Do I need to uninstall and start over again?

Initially I received the usual message to update.  I replied to it but it did not respond.  I then tried to manually  update through iTunes and it did nothing.  Only reaction I get is that the cursor "flutters" for a second and than tries to go to the store for maybe a second and than nothing else happens.
With that one, try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that go through any better for you?

  • I am trying to install the newest version of Itunes and it fails with the message "Program cannot start MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling program to fix this program.I have tried reinstalling several times but get same results

I am trying to install the newest version of Itunes and each time I repeatedly get the message "Program cannot start MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer Try reinstalling to fix this problem". I have tried reinstalling several times and I get the same message . Any ideas? I am most appreciative. I am using Windows 7.

    Hi 49balf,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend removing and reinstalling iTunes using these steps:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
