Cannot start or uninstall firefox

Firefox 3.6.15 will not open (either in the normal fashion or in safe mode). I’ve tried to create a new profile but I cannot access the Profile Manager. When I type firefox.exe –profilemanager into the run box on the start menu, I just get a box that says “We're Sorry. Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.” (But I cannot restart it. I can’t start it at all!) I am also unable to uninstall Firefox. I have tried my add/remove programs but that does not work. I have tried to manually run C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe. but that program simply will not run. I have checked in the Task Manager Processes list and Firefox is not listed there so it's not running in the background. I have restarted my computer. I have hard re-booted my computer. Absolutely nothing related to Firefox works no matter what I try and yet it’s worked perfectly for the past couple of years, up until today. HELP!

Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*'''Windows:'''
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

  • Cannot start or uninstall iTunes

Last night my power went off and caused me to have to do a system recovery on one of the users of my computer. While I was trying to figure out why the user's desktop was messed up I tried running Itunes. It said there was a new update so I went ahead and updated it. I then went through the recovery process and now I cannot start or uninstall Itunes. When I try to start it says there has been an error and asks me if I want to report it, I have answered yes and no and I also slected the debug option and that had no effect. When I try to uninstall it says it is starting the uninstallation wizard, but it never finishes. I seem to be stuck!

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

  • Cannot start Programs Like Firefox Freezes and Beach ball spining

I dont know what happen yesterday firefox just crashed and when I tried to restart it it just bounces for a long time then freezes even yahoo im all the imers and then even when i go to disk utilites it freezes can some one please help me..

When you get your OS X disks from Apple, I would run the Apple hardware test first, to ensure you don't have an obvious hardware problem.
If you download OnyX, which is a good utility, you want to run the tasks on both the cleaning and maintenance tabs.
To provide additional help, you'll need to tell us more about your system, for example, which Powerbook you have, the amount of memory, the size of your hard drive, how much free space you have on the hard drive, what operating system you have on your machine, and what, if any, peripherals you have plugged into it. The System Profiler on your hard drive in applications/utilities can help provide this information.

When I click on the Services option under Microsoft Management and try to start the FIREFOX SERVICE I get this hiccup:

    Hi again, cor-el--
Many thanks for your help and diligence.

  • Firefox won't start or uninstall using any suggested method. I want to install latest version.

Firefox has previously worked very well. Now when I try to start it I get a message "Couldn't load XPCOM" and it won't start. I have tried uninstalling it the usual way via Control Panel etc . and nothing happens. I have tried via the uninstall helper programme suggested elsewhere on your website but that won't work either.
I would like to remove the version I have (25.0) and install the new version (25.1) but when I try I get "Can not create temp folder archive".
I have tried connecting via the troubleshooting link below but I get a message "Windows cannot open this file"
I am currently persevering with Internet Explorer to contact you.
    What can I do, please?

Make sure that your security (anti-virus) software isn't blocking Firefox.
You can try to clear the temp folder.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 25: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • I no longer get my bookmarks in my dropdown menu on my yahoo tool bar plus i cannot add or delete apps on my yahoo toolbar.i believe this all started w/ a firefox upgrade of some sort.

i no longer get my bookmarks in my drop down menu on my yahoo tool bar plus i cannot add or delete apps on my yahoo toolbar. i have emailed yahoo and they said it is not their trouble & to call at&t and i called att and they said not their trouble go back to yahoo .......but i believe this all started w/ a firefox upgrade of some sort.

I know you can't help with my Yahoo problem, however, apparently at some time in the past I have went to the Sync and tried to figure it out on both my laptop and my desktop, because I have the long snyc key information. However, when I go to try to sync both computers I never get the box to enter that key on either one. That is my problem. So should I try and get a new sync key and see if that works.

  • Uninstalled Firefox & deleted profile folder. Installed new Firefox but box pops up "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded It may be missing or inaccessible."

I can't reinstall firefox. I deleted the profile folder and uninstalled firefox in hopes of clearing up the cookies from some problems I was having accessing my school course through a website. It seems to be downloaded but won't open up because the profile is missing. Help is appreciated thanks!

If you delete the Firefox profile folder, but leave the profiles.ini file then Firefox will try to access the folder that is marked as "Default=1" in the profiles.ini file and that will cause this error message.
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.
You do not have to delete the Firefox profile folder if there is a problem with the cookies.
You would only have to delete the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies in case clearing the cookies in the normal way isn't working.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • I cannot start firefox with message your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible

i cannot start Firefox with message "YOUR FIREFOX PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED. IT MAY BE MISSING OR INACCESSIBLE"

This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
    *Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
    *Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
You can use one of these to make Firefox create a new default profile or reuse an existing profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile<br />Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
