Cannot start photoshop

Everytime I try to start photoshop, I get an error that the scrartch disks are full. I have 2 1 TB hard disks in raid 0. They are definatly not full! I tried crtl-shift-alt and deleted the presets, but get the same error. I am running win 7 64 bit!

Yes, the disks are too large. This is a known issue with many applications. Create a partition smaller than 1 TB and use that as your temporary drive. In Vista and Win 7 this can be doen easily by downsizing them in your disk management tool. Or do it in your RAID software/ BIOS setup...

  • Cannot start Photoshop CC 64 bit after update

The PS CC 64 bit used to work, I tried to update the app using Creative Cloud, and it cannot start again.
I have tried to uninstall and re-install it again and agin for several times, it still doesn't work.
The above is the latest error message, it seems to be a bit different (error with different files) each time I reinstall the software.

    Hello,
sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!) http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html and follow the prescribed sequence of operations. Sometimes the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
So far, so good –I also often gave this advice. This approach only allows to look at the symptoms of this malfunction. Therefore I started a thread “What's up with "Downloading, Installing, Setting Up"?” I asked for a improvement of the product, so it is not necessary to use Cleaner Tool. Preran a member of Adobe’s staff promised "many improvements". Here is the link: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6408998
In order to accelerate the process I therefore call upon you to support my efforts. Most successful could be to click a „like“ in Prerans answer (see consecutive number 11)
    Thanks,
    Hans-Günter

  • Cannot start Photoshop Elements 8 - scratch file error

Admittedly, I posted this in the wrong forum: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3020052#3020052.  Also, I resolved my issue, but I'm posting this because it's apparent other are having the same issue and maybe this will help them.
When attempting to launch Photoshop Elements 8 on a brand new, core I7 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, I got an error message that PSe was unable to create a scratch file due to insufficient permissions.  I've seen others having this issue, and here is what I have tried:
    1.  Use Disk Utility - repair permissions -- no change
    2.  Allow my account, which is an administrator to read/write to root drive (manually changed permissions).  No change.
    3.  Started PSe while holding Option Command and attempted to change scratch file location from "Start" to "Macintosh HD" - no change.
    4.  Multiple uninstalls, manually deleted plist/prefs followed by reinstalls - no change
I read all the posts I could find on this topic and advice I received was:
"2) Check your disk/folder permissions -- because they are messed up, as previously discussed in this topic (even though it's about Windows)."
This did not resolve the issue.  I think this is a PSe bug that should be filed/fixed.  As I said, this is a brand new machine and fresh install.
What did work for me after trying the above:  Plugged in a FAT32-formatted Western Digital USB external drive and started PSe.  PSe was able to start and I've been able to use app.
Again, I think this is a PSe bug.

Ahh, a point I failed to see Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preference file? Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Opt+Shift as you initiate Photoshop's startup. Select "yes" when asked if you would like to continue with reset.

  • Cannot start Photoshop CS6 Extended after second installation

I have just installed a second copy (which I understand is allowable) of Photoshop CS6 Extended on my home computer in a windows 8 environment. I have previously installed on Win 7 and that works ok. However the new installation in Win 8 gives me the following error:
Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another programs is using the file. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
Can anyone advise what I should do

Do as it says - fix your file/ user permissions on your harddrive.

What is your Warranty and Return Policy?
You get to use VueScan for as long as you want before you buy it, so we recommend you test it before you buy it to make sure it meets your needs.
All sales are final and there are no refunds.
Isn't this a bit harsh? Naah I actually prefer to solve problems, and if I offer refunds, people give up too easily. If I can't solve your problem after you send a few Problem Reports (see above), I'm happy to give a refund.

cannot find photoshop elements 8 to start download. what next
my serial says it does;t work with Version 9… so it must be for version 8, which I cannot locate to download.
what do I do now ????

You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

As far as version 9 goes, if you never purchased it you shouldn't expect to be able to use it.  If you check your Adobe account online you might be able to find whatever version you purchased identified there.

  • Cannot install Photoshop CS4 on Windows Vista Business

Ok people, looking for some help with this.  I have a new PC (less than 2 months old).  I cannot get Photoshop CS4 installed at all.  I'm sure there have been a million threads like this before asking the same question.  Although I am a newb to Photoshop I am certainly not when it comes to computers, this is what I do for a living.  I can't even believe I am actually having to ask for help.... :\
Anyway, help appreciated.  I have Windows Vista Business SP1 (32-bit), and its running on a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5GHz with 4 gig of RAM.  I have plenty of free space on my hard drives.
When the install completes, I get the same error message, installed with errors.  When I click to see the error info it says something about language packs (I can get the exact error if you want, just installed and uninstalled about 10 times but hey).
Things I have tried a few times have been to follow through all the other threads and the Adobe support pages - Uninstalling the product through Programs first, running Windows Install Cleanup, running the Adobe CS4 Clean Script - when I do these things in this order both of the cleanup utilities don't find any installs of Photoshop CS4, so it doesn't appear they are doing anything.  I have disabled everything on the PC, done a selective startup, turned off UAC, firewall, anti-virus - everything suggested.  Still, the same error persists.
I have even run my Registry Mechanic and cleaned up that, and of course checked registry permissions etc.  Please help!

You may want to install Vista SP2. It contains a lot of fixes and has the newer 4.5 installer.
Also if Vista is set for English then CS4 has to be set as US English upon install (I think someone already pointed that out).
Before install go services and set the windows installer to auto and start it. Also good idea to turn off windows defender.
Go to MSconfig and turnoff as many start up items that you don't need running (you will have to reboot).
Ensure nothing Adobe related is running in the back ground before install. (someone already mention this I think)
Anti-virus: I turned mine off during install.
I did not install AIR nor Device Central on my system as I would never use them.
    Tiernobyl wrote:
Ok, so I've tried all the things suggested above but still get the same errors....
    Adobe AIR

Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack
    Error:
    Error 2.
    LangPack (English) for DeviceCentral

    Error 2.
Anyone else have any idea what might be causing my problem?  The other thing I was going to try was contacting Adobe support, but can I do this for the trial version?  When I tried to log a case it kept asking me to select my product, but I don't have one yet....
    Thanks.

  • Can't start Photoshop - 'Could not open a scratch file'

Hi, I recently installed Photoshop CS5, however every time I open the application, I am receiving this error message at the loading screen:
"Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders."
I've looked online for solutions everywhere, but I've obviously been unsuccessful and I'm at the point where I have no idea what else to try, other than a clean install of my OS, however that is a last resort as I currently do not have an external hard drive to transfer my files to do so. So far I have tried these things:
Reinstalled Photoshop many times, even the CS6 BETA is giving me the same error.
    Deleted preference files within /Library/Preferences/
Used the cmd+alt shortcut when starting Photoshop to select a different scratch disk location.
Used the cmd+alt+shift shortcut to delete the settings file, which I cannot do as the error message mentioned above appears before the window for deleting the settings file does.
Tried rebooting several times, even into safemode and I still get the same message.
Tried changing the permissions on the Applications folder, Adobe folder, CS5 folder and CS5 application, however they are all set to 'read & write access' for me. I am also set as an administrator.
Cleaned my cache of any unneccessary files.
I have also repaired my permissions using Disk Utility, but that didn't solve the problem.
I have a 2010 Macbook Pro, 4GB RAM running OS X Lion 10.7.3 with 2 patitions on my harddrive (OS X and Windows 7). I have 15GB free on my OS X partition currently, which may not seem like much, however I have run Photoshop CS5 previously as a trial and other versions of Photoshop and the small amount of harddrive space has never affected the software's ability to create a scratch file.
The strange thing, however, is that I can use Photoshop CS5 & CS6 on a guest account that I created recently, which means that the problem I am having is permissions based. Logging into a seperate account is a good enough solution for now, but it is incredibly tedious to keep changing accounts just to use Photoshop.
Has anyone got any other ideas? As I mentioned previously, reinstalling is a last resort as I currently don't have the neccessary resources.
    Thanks.

I managed to fix this myself, almost by accident, after failing every method suggested that I came across.
My problem was due to 'read only' access being set to some folders in ~/private/ on my main account, meaning that Photoshop could not create an important, temporary scratch file in this location.
To anyone else who comes across this thread due to having the same problem, here's the solution:
Open finder, then go to 'Go' in the menu bar and select 'Go to folder'
In the window that opens, enter '/private/' and click 'Go'
Then, right click on the folder 'tmp' within /private/ and select 'Get info'
In here, scroll to the permissions section and change the relevent user permissions to 'read and write'
Before closing this window, click on the gear icon underneath the list of users and select 'Apply to enclosed items' and hit 'Ok' in the next window.
Finally, repeat steps 3 - 5 for the folder named 'var', also within /private/ and you're done. Photoshop should now open as intended!
Although this solution was ideal for my home laptop, giving 'read and write' access to important folders like these can probably lead to lowered security so please do it at your own risk.

  • Error report when trying to start Photoshop Elements 11

    Hello.
I bought the student version of Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 recently. Premiere Elements works fine, but since 6 weeks, I keep getting an error report, whenever I want to start Photoshop Elements.
"Photoshop Elements cannot start or continue because of missing file(s). Please reinstall."
I tried deinstalling and reinstalling the programme for five times already, but I still get the error report.
Please, could somebody help me, because I'm getting really desperate now and I don't know what to do.
    Best Regards,
    Sophie Grossalber
P.S.: I have a laptop, that runs with Windows 7.

Sophie can you please check your installation logs to see if an error occurs during the installation process.  Please see Troubleshoot install using logs | Elements - http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-install-using-logs-elements.html for information on how to locate and interpret the installation log files.  You are welcome to post any specific errors which you receive to this discussion.

  • Cannot use PhotoShop CS6 after trial expired, even after purchasing Creative Cloud Student Edition

    Hi.
I had PhotoShop CS6 trial, which expired.
I have purchased Creative Cloud student edition, I receive a message that my PhotoShop trial has expired.
I am prompted to purchase the product to extend it, or type in the product's serial number
(I never received a serial number.)
I paid for Creative Cloud and have an order number, I should not be having this issue.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled PhotoShop CS6 multiple times, I also use DreamWeaver and am fearful that I will encounter the same issue. How can I use the Photoshop CS6 after I have paid for it?
    Curonda in Milwaukee, WI.

    Hi.
The trial expired 2 weeks ago - Monday.
I purchased the Cloud Yesterday, also 2 weeks ago Monday 10/15/2012.
I purchased it twice thinking 1 purchase did not complete.
I still will need to request a refund for 1, I've been too busy between, work, school, and kid. I'm at work now.
