Cannot start recovery installation on my Satellite A200-28P

I am trying to restore my Toshiba laptop Satellite A200-28P (Windows Vista Home) using the product recovery disk supplied with the laptop, no matter what I try to do I cannot get it to run, the only thing it will allow me to do is restore the laptop to an earlier date. I have full admin rights on the laptop, there are no virus's or any other malware on it, all this seems to have happened since it updated with windows vista about two days ago, have uninstalled the updates but that had no effect.
I cannot find the recovery console any where on the laptop yet I know it was there before. I have tried many of the solutions found on the web but none of them work. I did use the recovery disc about 2 1/2 years ago when the laptop crashed and it worked fine then.
Any help apprecited

I cannot remember anymore how it was with A200.
Have you got recovery DVD only or you were also able to start HDD recovery installation using F8 at start up (Advanced boot options > Repair my computer)?
Anyway, your problem description confuses me.
If you use recovery DVD as bootable disc there is no repair console or some options.
When recovery installation starts you can just see menu where you must click on next.
Please check my lats posting on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=61124
Can you see the same when notebook starts to read recovery disc?

  • Cannot start recovery installation for Portege M200

    Hi,
I already used the recovery DVD long time ago but now it wont start. Instructions tell to:
    1st insert the disk
2nd turn the pc on while keeping the C key pressed
3rd follow the instructions which are appearing on the screen
I tried as described but nothing happens and windows start normally. I also tried to open the DVD when the pc was on and I can see the files but cant start the process.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem?

    Hi there,
have you tried booting from the DVD? Obviously u can see the files on the DVD but maybe you need to change the boot order so it boots from the DVD instead. To do this, restart the computer then press F2 when you see the Toshiba logo on the screen while booting up (F2 or whatever key it tells you to press to enter the setup).
Within the BIOS setup go over to the boot order and swap the CD/DVD with the HDD so that the CD/DVD is at the top of the list. Go over in the BIOS menu and Exit Saving Changes and the computer will restart. Hopefully the recovery DVD should now boot, if this works and upon completion of all installations go back into the BIOS menu and follow the same instructions to change the CD/DVD back to second, and put HDD back to the top of the list.
    Hopefully this answers your question.

  • Windows cannot start the installation process

I have windows server 2012 datacenter with hyper-v role that I tried to upgrade to R2 RTM.
All went fine until the reboot and the error "windows cannot start the installation process"
I can start windows server 2012
I must say that I used a ISO file using DRAC for the install.
Is there a log to check for errors?

    Hi,
Just a thought, check to see what your BIOS settings are on your computer.
This problem is usually related some potential problem in the disk or BIOS or faulty hardware. The BIOS sometimes limits the read/write scope of boot sectors, to avoid virus attack.
Review the BIOS setting, if there’s any Anti-Virus settings, just disable it, and then start the install again.

  • Questions about recovery discs and partitioning Satellite A200-QH0

I bought a Satellite A200-QH0 model in Australia and due to lack of forums in our country I'd like to ask some questions here if that's ok.
The notebook contains 3 partitions - a 1.6GB "EISA Configuration" partition, the large OS partition, and the recovery partition. So I've made the recovery DVD??s using the Recovery Disc Creator tool as we aren't supplied with an actual disc. But I would like to know what these discs will do? My questions:
    1. Will they truly return the hard drive back to _exactly_ how it was including the partition layout and pre-installed software?
    2. Will the recovery DVDs work even if the drive has been repartioned? I would like to split the system partition to give space for data files etc. But will this extra partition stop the recovery procedure working properly?
Please understand that I'm not interested in reformatting the entire drive. I just want to split the OS partition. But in case I have to replace the drive in the future or something I'd like to know how close to "original" these discs will get me, no matter what I do to the drive?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi
Im not 100% sure how the recovery works on the Toshiba Australian notebooks but I presume the Recovery CD contains the Toshiba image with the Windows OS, drivers, tools and utilities.
I think if you would use the Recovery CD then the whole HDD will be formatted and all partitions will be erased.
I think the recovery partition will be not created using the recovery CD because the recovery CD was already created so the recovery partition is not necessary anymore

  • Cannot start Windows installer via Boot Camp

    Hi!
Recently I cannot start my Vista, so I decided to delete the partition, create a new partition, and reinstall a Vista.
When I clicked Start Install Windows in Boot Camp, the MacBook Pro restarted and showed a black screen (it should display "Windows is loading files..."). I waited for 10 minutes or so, but nothing changed.
I tried an XP CD from my friend, and the same thing happened.
I don't think the DVD went wrong, because I used that DVD to install Vista on my MBP one week ago
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

If the screen goes black and nothing seems to be happening then it sounds like the install process isn't even starting, which seems rather strange. You might try asking for help in the Boot Camp forum in case someone there has had the same problem.
You said you had several Vista and XP installation discs. Are they copies or authentic? Also, keep in mind that you need an OEM disc to install Windows in Boot Camp, you won't be able to install it from an upgrade disc.

  • Cannot start Windows installation on Satellite S50-A-10R

I just bought a Satellite S50-A-10R and I am trying to install Windows on it ... it is not my first time doing this but know I think I hit a block ... I start the laptop , open the DVD-rom , put in the DVD with windows and try to restart the laptop.
When I press on the power button nothing happens. I have to unplug it for it to shut down.
When I power on the laptop again I still receive no message/ doesn't enter Windows installer and it still doesnt close pressing on the power button...
If anyone has any ideas please tell me ...
I set it to boot first from odd
    I used a windows 7 and a widows 8,1 DVD but nothing

yes i could enter boot menu ( i modified the boot priority before trying to instal windows) but i do not remember having an option to switch to UEFi just CSM in the options list.
I managed to install win8.1 after destroying about a dozen dvds and after unpluging the laptop twice the number of dvds (because strangely i couldn't shut it down from the power button) ... installed win from a flash drive ... so far so good ... a little strange at first glance ( first time using win 8 ) ...
    _I have another question ..._
after installing all the drivers and utilities i tryed using the toshiba hotkeys but nothing appears (i usually use it an my win7 laptop) and can't figure out why... any ideas ?

  • Cannot start recovery CD

    Hi
    Can any one help me?
I am trying to recover my Satellite A100 using the product recovery media supplied with the laptop from new. I place the disc in the dvd/cd drive turn on the machine and using F12 select boot from CD/DVD drive. After this the cd drive tries to start but nothing, its as if the disc cannot boot.
The recovery disc works fine in other machines and other cd's are booting up ok in my machine that needs to be recovered.
Has anyone any ideas what I can do or get the product recovery cd to start?
I have also changed the boot order in bios to CD/DVD and tried holding "C" down on start up.
    Cheers

    Thanks for you reply
Finally did it, cleaned the CD _both sides_ until it worked (didnt know to clean both sides still live and learn)

  • Cannot finish recovery process for a Satellite M645-S4070

    Hi there!
My son had a bad virus on his laptop that I was unable to fix.  I am trying to recover to the out-of-box state using recovery dvds and the user's guide.  I followed the instructions but the computer seems to be stuck at copying files.....please wait.  It has been on that screen for about 90 minutes.  I'm afraid to do anything that might cause damage during this process.  Is it normal to be copying files for that long?
    Thank you!
    Deloris

    Satellite M645-S4070
Deloris, I've read about cases here where restoring the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media took hours. So sit tight for several.

  • Right shift key doesn't work after BIOS update on Satellite A200-28P

For some reason, after I upgraded my Bios, my right shift key doesnt work and neither does my FOUR and SIX button, hence why i have written in words :(,
I tried reinstalling windows, hasnt made a difference.
I tried rolling back the drivers for the keyboard, as well as changing to the US version of the keyboard, nothing has helped.
    Thanks

okay first problem is, my warranty was due to expire, so i brought an extension, and nothing has happened whatsoever on those regards, secondly, i ran a keyboard test, and i found out that it wasnt only the four six and right shift key which was now no longer working, but also the f2, f10, f11, f12,
I have used a external keyboard, which works :D but it annoying to use that when the whole point of a laptop is to have the inbuilt keyboard,
    any suggestions on this

  • Satellite A200-27R cannot start up

I have had my Satellite A200-27R for 2 years and 8 months and 2 weeks ago it crashed and turned itself off. At the time I was browsing on the internet and probably had open 3 or 4 webpages when it froze and I had a blue screen with white writing telling me something had gone wrong and my laptop was shutting down to protect itself.
I was unable to turn it back on for 24 hours but when it did come back on it seemd to be working normally again but I backed up all my files incase it happened again. About 10 hours later the same thing happened again: freeze; blue screen and then trying to reboot.
Since then, when I try to turn it back on it either gets stuck on the Toshiba "leading innovation" start up screen; or goes to a black screen and tells me there has been a media test failure and something to do with Realtek about 100x or until I take out the battery so it turns off; or asks me to start in safe mode and do system restore which I have done several times now but this has not helped.
I would be really greatful if anyone could tell me if they had any similar experiences and what they did and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Many thanks.

    Hi
BSOD can be the result of serious software problem or hardware issue.
If new OS installation didnt help you to solve this, I think that the hardware malfunction would cause the BSOD.
Usually the notebook shuts down automatically because of the higher temperature.
Higher temperature can affect other parts like RAM modules or motherboard.
So in many cases the BSOD appears due to memory issue.
I think you should firstly clean the cooling modules. You should remove the dust using a compressed air spray. In most cases this is the best procedure to get rid of the dust.
Then check the RAM modules. You can try to boot the notebook with one module only.
Then switch the modules to different slots in order to check the slots too.
Of course the HDD should be checked too. You can use a free software called Drive fitness Test. Its good, freeware software which can be downloaded from different pages.
If no of mentioned tips would help you, then I would recommend asking a Toshiba technician for help. They could use some special tools in order to get some results about the malfunction.

  • Some Microsoft Windows Update cannot be insatlled - Satellite A200-W00

    Hi,
I Have been having a problem with updates on my Toshiba Satellite A200-W00 Machine. I have two particular updates that continuously fail.
I have been in contact with a Microsoft personnel who has been sending me step by step trouble shooting to try but I've had no luck. These updates are:
*Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista (KB956390)*
*Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB955519)*
*Security Update for Windows Vista (KB953155)*
This was one of his emails
From the problem description, I understand that several updates failed to be installed, and you have tried some troubleshooting suggestions, but the issue still persists. If there has been any misunderstanding, please let me know.
Given this situation, the issue may occur if the related system files are corrupted. In order to continue troubleshooting it, please first temporarily uninstall the security programs, and test the update again. If still failed, please take your time and try the following steps to repair the system.
    In-place upgrade
    ==========
Though this operation will not remove or modify the installed programs and files, I still suggest that we backup the important files before doing this. In addition, we may have to reinstall the device drivers after this operation. Thank you for your understanding.
    1. Start the computer and access Windows Vista.
    2. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in the computer's DVD drive.
    3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:
If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.
If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:
    a. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK.
Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive.
    b. Click Install now.
    4. When you reach the Which type of installation to you want screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows Vista.
After it completes, please try to update again.
Please try the above steps and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me.
I look forward to your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Bill
However Vista was preinstalled on my laptop and obviously I don't have the disc. Anyone know where I can get hold of it or have the same problem with similar updates. I've tried disabling my antivirus, firewalls, antispyware disk checks, clean ups etc and nothing.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

In my opinion updates issue have nothing to do with notebook manufacturer and I also think that Microsoft is the right address where you must ask for help.
About missing recovery DVD there are no many options for you. If you don't have it you can order new copy for you. The right address is https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite A200 - Cannot change language on Toshiba OEM CD

Hoping to find some help on how to change my Toshiba Satellite A200 from Spanish Language to English.
I asked a friend to buy me this notebook from Spain, unknowing to him the OEM came in spanish language and the recovery CD as only is only spanish but i don't understand spanish and i have been finding it difficult to go about the notebook since i don't want to click the wrong thing in spanish.
Even when i install programs, it automatically installs in spanish and this is really frustrating,
    Somebody HELP!!!

The notebooks are country specific products. That means that every notebook manufacturer offers product with country specific keyboard and operating system.
Toshiba recovery image is not multilingual installations image and you cannot install Vista on English using this DVD.
What you need is Microsoft Vista installations DVD on English language. Drivers, tools and utilities for your notebook on English language you can find on European Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

  • Satellite A200-1RK error when starting up

    Hi,
I hope someone will be able to help me.
I am not very clever when it comes technology so please bare with me. My mum has a Toshiba Satellite A200-1RK laptop which she has had for few years now. She recently dropped it and when she turns it back on it comes up with an error message saying " windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause" then it gives you 2 options, 1 is a recommended recovery option and the other one just tries to load windows.
I have tried both and they just come up with the windows loading screen and doesnt progress from there. Anyone got any advice on how this could be fixed. My mum has a lot of pictures that she didnt get round to backing up on the hard drive and as you can understand these are important to her. It might just be a case that something has been knocked out of place when she dropped it, Im not sure. Should I take it to a shop to get fixed? I just dont like going to these places if I dont have to because I really have very little knowledge on the techie lingo etc.
    Thanks.

    Hello
Can you start Windows in safe mode? If yes its just a software or driver related issue because in safe mode no drivers will be loaded.
If not it seems that something has muddled up the Windows installation and therefore you have to reinstall the whole system. Therefore take the Toshiba recovery disk and follow the screen instructions to restore the original factory settings.

  • After MOBO exchange cannot get Satellite A200 to work properly

    HI guys,
I have a Satellite A200 here, my friend took it to pc place and they told him it couldnt be fixed and needed a new mother board... well I managed to fix it and also connect it to the internet (Ive fixed a few PCs) anyway I did all the updates then it took forever to shut down.
Now it wont load it just says loading thats all. Or I get a black screen and now it doesnt want to load.. I cant get in to do a restore or do a hard drive test. Do u suggest anything?
I downloaded recovery disks the other night n they dont seem to want to work either. b4 I got it working I somehow got in and did a recovery or factory default software then it worked but I cant remember how I got I there lol.... any info will be helpful..and thank u in advance
    Its running windows vista

As far as I know recovery disc cannot be downloaded so I dont understand what have you done exactly.
Anyway if the notebooks hardware is OK you can install OS using original recovery DVD disc or install OS using original Microsoft installation disc.
If you have this original recovery DVD (ask your friend if he/she has one) use it for OS installation.
If you use Microsoft disc all necessary drivers you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
If you have more concrete questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Can I install Vista using my Vista installations DVD?

    Hi
I would like to have some answers in my questions......
I have satellite A200-1CR (PSAE0) and I want to install vista on my own....not with the recovery DVD but I have some serious questions....
    1) May I have problems during installation....(SATA drivers, etc) ,problems with BIOS or Toshiba has no such restrictions?
    2) Is it problem if I erase the secret partition (winre) and what is its use?
    3) If I do a clean install with my DVD with my vista....if I want in the near future can I use the recovery DVD I have got or not?
    4) In drivers section for my laptop for each part has 5,6,7 either 8 drivers for win vista...which one is the proper or it's all the same?
    5) In general what do you suggest? Are there any reasons why not to do my format??? I have done a lot of formats in desktop but never in laptops.
Sorry if tired you with my questions, and sometimes my bad English....
    Thank you in advance........

    Hi
I think I can answer some questions lets start with
    > 1) Vista DVD has SATA drivers but WXP doesn't. Do you think the possibility not to recognize the HDD is high? I can't understand where you mean to install the HDD drivers.....
As Gipsyman already posted you need the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. If you use the XP then this driver must be installed from the external USB floppy disk drive. You have to put the sata driver on the diskette and should include the SATA driver while the
Windows XP setup is running. I think you have to press F6 to include the driver.
But if you dont have a external USB floppy drive then you could create an own XP CD with the SATA driver. To create a new XP CD you need the freeware tool called nLite (google for details).
If you want to install Vista then you could include the SATA driver from the USB stick.
By the way; this forum provides more as enough details about Intel Matrix Storage Manger and nLite. Use the search option!!!
