Cannot start!  System says I need Mac OS 10.5.8.

My new ipod Touch just arrived today. But I cannot even begin to use it. When initializing it, the first message is that there is no access because I don't have 10.5.8.
How do I use this ipod? Do I have to return it to the store? I am not going to buy a new Mac OS just to use this device.
I bought an ipod Nano in 2009 and no problems. But this new one is making my head hurt.
Any solutions out there?

Very disappointed to hear this, but thanks for your response. I cannot return the product since I purchased it online from Apple and had the free engraving done. Will never do that again!
Meanwhile, I have a workaround. Will initialize the ipod on my friend's Mac who has the current OS. At least I can then use the wireless features, but will never be able to sync with itunes on my computer.

  • My 2007 iMac 24" now retired as working machine but serves as entertainment center for granddaughters and me, 'attacked' while on Youtube and cannot start up. In need of first aid to get it going again...

My 2007 iMac 24" attacked' while on Youtube and cannot start up. I need first aid to get it going again...
True, it's retired as working machine but serves as family entertainment center.

At this point you have 2 choices.
Erase the disk entirely and reinstall (you will lose everything that is not backed up)
Take it to an Apple Store (you will probably lose everything that is not backed up)
I believe this is a hardware (HDD) issue and would expect a Store trip to be the best approach, sorry.
    BUT
Did you try a safe mode start?

  • I bought a new ipod today and i can not get it to connect to my mac oe my itune account it say s i need ituned 10.4 so i tried to download it, it then says i need mac osx10.5 so i tried to down load it but it says something else do i need to return it?

I bought a new ipod touch today. I tried to install it and it says i need itunes 10.4 so i tried to download that, it said i needed mac os x 10.5 so i tried to down load that it gave me another message. how do i get my new ipod  onto my mac? Or do i need to return the ipod?

New iPod Touch devices require a minimum of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 in addition to a fairly recent version of iTunes. If you are running Tiger (10.4) or earlier, you can't just update to Leopard for free; you have to buy it.

  • I'm trying to run a program that says I need mac osx /c firefox +2 - what is +2

I need to take an online course and pass a test... the course states I need Mac OSX with firefox +2, I don't know what +2 is, I don't think I have it because the course is telling me my system is not compatible. how can I make my system work? If it helps, the course is AHA online PALS course for health care providers.

You should always use the latest Firefox release to get the latest bug and security patches.
You can find the full version of the latest Firefox 26.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
If the current Firefox release isn't working then you need to contact the website and ask them which Firefox versions they support.
If you can post a link to a public page that doesn't require authentication (login) that generates this error message then we can have a look at it.

  • HT3258 to the new iphone 5.  I had the message I need to download itunes 10.7 which I did.  I now have a message saying I need Mac OS X

I am trying to sync a new iPhone 5.  I updated iTunes as requested and now a message stating I need Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later.  I can't seem to download that.  Any ideas what I need to do?

If you are currently running Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.6.7, you should be able to update to 10.6.8 through Software Update.
If you are currently running Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier, you need to buy the upgrade to 10.6 and update it to 10.6.8. Apple still sells 10.6, but only if you call them on the phone, and you can only buy it on a disc. Also, you need to make sure your Mac is new enough to run 10.6.

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 11 yesterday. on start it says library needs to be upgraded to this version. when upgrade is clicked says cannot upgrade and quits entirely

iPhoto 11 starts by requiring upgrade of library but upgrade fails and iPhoto quits. Why why why?

    Because something's broken broken broken.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards

  • Itunes won't start it says I need 10.4.7....??

So I just recently updated from 10.3.9 to 10.4 and after the switch when I try to open Itunes it says that I need 10.4.7 and I cannot figure out why..? Does anyone have any answers??

Update your OXS 10.4 to at least 10.4.7 using the Combo updater.
    iTunes requires:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later or Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later required for iTunes
Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later required for iPhone
    500MHz G3 processor or better
    QuickTime 6.5.2 or later
    256MB RAM
    Combo/SuperDrive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
    1GHz G4 processor or better
    QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
    16MB video RAM

  • I got the new iPhone 4 but can't put my music on it because it says I need Mac OS X 10.5

I am trying to put the music from my iTunes account on my MacBook Pro onto my iPhone 4 and it says I must install the new version of iTunes. When I try to install the new version of iTunes it says I can't because I don't have Mac OS X 10.5.

Specs on the box the iPhone came in and the website for the iPhone:
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
    Don't meet one of those?
Then why would you be surprised it doesn't work?
The only solution is update whatever you need to to meet those specs.

  • HT1338 Have a new iphone 5, to restore it says u need the itunes 7, after intalling that it says i need mac os x 10.6.8.  how do i get that?

how do i get mac os x 10.6.8?

First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

  • Final Cut won't start sometimes, says I need a quartz extreme video card

Even though I have a quartz extreme capable video card and use Final Cut studio all the time, sometimes an error message will pop up and won't let me load any final cut application. The message is "Final cut pro recommends that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I've tried deleting the preferences, and then running applejack. Sometimes it works, but right now I can't get it to load. I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting this. Any advice would be much appreciated.
My software is all up to date.

No, I have FCE 4 - should have said that - and it worked on my older Intel based MacBook Pro.
As it turns out, though, I think I've solved the problem, adapting a solution to a related problem I found on MacRumors.com. Don't know why this is necessary, but here's the solution I tried:
    1. right click on the FCE application icon and select "Show Package Contents"
    2. open the "Contents" folder and then open the "info.plist" folder in Text Edit
    3. find the line that says: "<key>AELMinimumQuartzExtremeCapable</key>," and replace it with "<key>AELMinimumGeForceCapable</key>", and then make sure that the next line says "<string></string>" without any number specified. Or, if you have some other kind of graphics card that you know is compatible, you could say what that is instead of GeForce. I found it doesn't work just to delete this line completely.
Again, I don't know why Apple didn't build in this flexibility when they updated their standard Graphics cards, but in any case this solution seems to work.

  • I can't download the new itunes.  It says I need Mac OS X 10.5.  I have Mac OS X 10.4.11. What do I do?

How do I upgrade to MAX OS X 10.5

You have to find a Leopard 10.5 DVD and upgrade.  Good luck finding it and be prepared to pay a lot of money.  Why do you need to update iTunes?  I still use version 7.5.
