Cannot start up a 2nd instance
Hi!
I have an instance already running on a machine with 8 GB of memory.
SQL> show sga
Total System Global Area 1593835520 bytes
Fixed Size 1978976 bytes
Variable Size 385879456 bytes
Database Buffers 1191182336 bytes
Redo Buffers 14794752 bytes
That is SGA = 1520 GB. I have scripts generated by DBCA (which I adjusted a little bit), creating another DB. The line in init.ora file is
sga_target=1256194048
When I try to
oracle$ export ORACLE_SID=chdstg
oracle$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup nomount pfile=init.ora
ORA-27102: out of memory
SVR4 Error: 22: Invalid argument
Does anyone know what's wrong?
Hi, this error is raise by a limit into kernel parameters, you must set the correct parameters for
shmall = ?
shmmax = ?
You must custom this values on base:
shmall=shmmax/pagesize
Luck.
Have a good day.
Regards.

RAC hangs when starting or stopping 2nd instance of 2 node RAC
Has anyone seen the problem with all transactions and/or logins hanging when starting or stopping the 2nd node of a 2 node RAC database. When I shut down the 2nd instance using srvctl I occasionally get errors and long delays connecting. On our larger database with instances having a very large SGAs, trying to connect you sometimes get ORA-12537 or ORA-01033. Users experience a very long hang before getting the errors. These instances have very large SGAs of about 30GB on each node.
In the log of the first instance we see messages like the following for quite a while.

Thanks in advance.I have tested with only one node and starting and stopping is much faster without any cache fusion traffic. The application is not RAC aware, it was written without regard for RAC. As you say there may be some accessing of the same block by all nodes causing RAC to remaster blocks when a node is shut down.
My concern is the length of time users are afftected when I am starting a node that has been offline for a while. With the large SGA I have, it appears users are affected adversely for several minutes, in affect causing an outage which we are trying to avoid by using RAC. -
Cannot start BW or HANA instances in SAP Management console
Hi,
I created instance of "SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP5 incl. SAP Business Objects BI 4.1 SP2 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP7". When I'm trying to start SAP BW or SAP HANA instances in "SAP Management console" via remote desktop connection I receive an error message :
"WebService error: 21 The operation timed out" / "The RPC server in unavailable".
Any ideas how to fix this?Hi,
See note: 535532
Mid way through the note it says:
You can then register the SAP J2EE Engine as a windows-service by using the SAP J2EE Engine Config Tool. Open a command prompt and change to the directory <J2EE Engine installation directory>configtool and run configtool.bat or start this tool via your Start-Menu "Tools->Config Tool" of the J2EE Server entry. Select at the left navigation area of this tool the entry "cluster/ server" the checkbox "Enabled" at the tabstrip "NT Service". Apply these settings by clicking on "File->Apply" at the menu. Do the same with the entry "cluster / dispatcher".
After you have finished these steps you can register now the J2EE Engine as a windows service.
Start service.exe, which is also located in the directory
<J2EE Engine installation directory>configtool. It works with three
parameters:
Service.exe u2013install u2013 the service(s) is (are) registered as NT/2000 Service(s). For each specified cluster node, a separate service is generated. All services have startup mode automatic. To start the service(s), open the Control Panel ¨Services folder. Find the service in the list of available services (for example: SAP J2EE Server 1, SAP J2EE Dispatcher 1, SAP J2EE Server 2, and so on). Select it, and choose u201CStartu201D on the right-hand side. No u201CStartup Parametersu201D are needed for the service to run. The system starts the particular J2EE Engine 6.20 node in background mode. It can be used and administered as usual. The only difference is that the server does not run in a console window.
There may be other notes along these lines.
You should also check any notes on the setup of SAP in MSCS cluster, as it will contain instructions for registering the services.
Hope this gives you a pointer in the right direction. -
Urgent: cannot start the shadow instance at phase STARTSAP_TRANS
We are upgrading to NW2004s (ABAP only) from 640.
<u><b>How to re-start the shadow instance?</b></u>
At this point, <b>anyway we cannot start the shadow instance.</b>
At SAPMMC, the disp+work
1) first show "running but the dialog queue standstill"
2) then show" running but not connected to the message server"
3) then the disp+work dies.
Above happens in 1 minute after re-start.

Cannot start second instance of collector
Hi everyone
I've got a strange one here. A workstation I noticed that wasn't scanned since 6 months (WinXP SP3, ZCM 10.3.1).
When I check the ZAA windows, it says Last Scanned i.e. today, Last Upload June 2.
I've found several errors 'Cannot start second instance of collector' in the local colw32.log.
However, the workstation gets rebooted daily and I can't find another instance of colw32.exe running in TaskManager.
How can I resolve this? I can't tell how many clients are affected. However, I've got almost 300 clients (15%) that haven't been scanned in the last 180 days...
Thanks

We had similar issue, inventory was never uploaded to server. To solve it we had to manually do a "Scan Now" from Zenworks agent -> Show properties -> Inventory -> Scan Now, after we did that once on the workstation then scheduled scans started to upload again.
I guess it would probably also work if you do a Inventory scan from quick tasks in ZCC but I never tried it so I'm not sure.

Cannot start instance of another server : correction
Correction : To the moderator of the newsgroup, please delete my other post with
the subject 'Cannot start instance of another server'.
In the console of WLS 6.1 SP3 on HP-UX, I have created another instance of a server
I called 'another_of_myserver' (in addition to the default myserver). When I
try to start another_of_myserver, it won't start and gives the following error
============================
<Nov 26, 2002 1:32:04 PM EST> <Error> <NodeManager> <Could not start server 'another_of_myserver'
via Node Manager - reason: '[SecureCommandInvoker: Could not create a socket to
the NodeManager running on host 'localhost:5555' to execute command 'another_of_myserver',
reason: Connection refused. Ensure that the NodeManager on host 'localhost' is
configured to listen on port '5555' and that it is actively listening]'>
===========================
What does it mean and how do I get it to start ?
Thanks for any help or suggestion.Athooya,
If you do not specify a weblogic.nodemanager.listenPort or
weblogic.nodemanager.listenAddress they will be set to the default.
So the listenAddress will be localhost and so not matching exactly the address
used by the remote
start. Please try to set the listen address of the Node Manager when it is
started. You can specify the address on which the Node Manager will listen for
requests from the
Administration Server with the following parameter: -Dweblogic.nodemanager.listenAddress=host
where host is the DNS name or IP address of the machine where the Node Manager
is started.
The default port on which the Node Manager will listen for requests
from the Administration Server is 5555. You can change this with the following
startup parameter:
-Dweblogic.nodemanager.listenPort=port
Refer to

Another instance of distiller is busy starting up. This instance cannot continue.
"Another instance of distiller is busy starting up. This instance cannot continue." This message keeps coming up after boot time. CS5 + Windows 7. Why?
I did your recommendation and let me say that issue persists in the new fresh installation. Other issue that I can see is that Acrobat is installed twice, as you can see in the Programs and Features panel, on the Control Panel. I'm using Windows 8.1 x64 with all Adobe CC 2014 products.
The problem is that uninstalling any Acrobat version (or row), Adobe Acrobat is uninstalled fully.
Other issue detected with multiples instances is related to the Adobe CEF Helper application. This application appears, three or four times in the Task Manager.
Really annoying this issue.

Multiple LV instances, web server cannot start, port already in use
Hi there,
I have a general question about webserving VIs in case either
a) multiple instances of the LV development environment are running (this is possible in windows XP for instance when "switch users" is allowed and each user launches LV)
b) multiple compiled LV executables are run by the same user
c) any mixture of the two above
I have an application case when either of the three above would be a very good solution, was not for the problem encountered. Say, b): the user is given two deployed executables, and can decide to run either or both concurrently. Moreover, I want these applications to be visible on the web, so they are compiled with the webserver turned on, default settings.
The problem I've seen (LV8.5.1, winXp for sure, but I think I've seen it as well in linux and other versions as well) is that each new instance of the LV engine tries to get hold of the tcp port (default 80), so that all instances beyond the first complain about "The Web Server cannot start. Is the Web Server port already in use?"
While I can understand the origin of the message, and found some posts on the forums somehow related to it, I don't like it too much.
I could think only of two workarounds here: 1) set different web server ports for each LV instance, and instruct the remote users to direct their browsers to a webserverort link to access each VI; 2) run all the applications from the same instance of the LV dev system. The latter is not so convenient for me, due to conflicts in global VIs between all instances of the applications [compiling executables IS a way to privatize memory spaces in this case, AND global variables are imho well justified for the fairly complex application I have in mind here].
Is there a third, more elegant solution perhaps, which I'm missing?
Thanks, EnricoNathanK wrote:
What is it in particular that you dislike about the message?
How would you like LabVIEW to behave in this case?
No problem with the message, but I'd just be very happy if a single
web server would serve all my instances of the executables on the same
port. I.e., if 2.exe is open and wants to start another server on the
same port used already by 1.exe, then 2.exe becomes served by the
server already opened. Am I demanding too much? Am I missing some
necessary logic?
At the moment, anyway, I'm stuck with the vi being served correctly,
but not the compiled application, and I can't figure out why. It's
LV8.5.1, and yes, I have in the .ini

"Device Cannot Start - Code 10" - Windows Vista Error, w/ 2nd Gen. Nano
I'm having trouble with my Nano and Windows Vista. The computer is recognizing the iPod just fine and seeing all of my songs, but nothing will play and the diamond bar does not move. I can't hear previews online either.
Under device manager, a yellow "!" shows up for the iPod, and it says "Device Cannot Start - Code 10" when I check. All of my drivers and updates are current as of today. So is iTunes. Any thoughts?
It worked before, but now it's not. This is a reasonably common error on a PC when there is a problem with either a USB device, your USB cables or hardware, or the system drivers.
In a case where, as you say, the device works properly with other computers, the problem is more likely to be with the hardware or drivers on the computer you're trying to connect to.
See this site for some hints:
http://www.pchell.com/hardware/usbcode10.shtml
I found it via a web search; I don't have any connection to that site.
The good news is that your iPhone is probably fine. -
Cannot start 2nd form on same application server when starting script in 1s
Hello,
we have a forms application running on a productive application server and the same application for different testing db's on a test application server.
Within this application I can start a stored procedure that writes a spreadsheet via utl_file. Depending on the parameters used this might last 1 - 2 hours. When I start the procedure the forms application is blocked as expected until the procedure is finished. This would be no problem if there wouldn't happen a strange thing to some users: When they start the procedure every forms application on the same application server is blocked. This means they can work in production when they start the procedure in test environment but they can not open another test application and vice versa.
As this only happens to some users (yet always the same) I'm lost where I have to search. I found no differences on the client machines, these are installed by a central administration tool.
Has anyone an idea where I can start searching?
Regards
Marcus

I first wondered why this is happening only to some users. Now I found that it depends on the habit how the application is called.
The applications are called from IE with separateFrame=TRUE.
While I have a link in my XP start menue for every application and therefore start IE anew every time, other users use a website which has the same links. The difference I saw is, that I get a Java console for every application, whereas applications started from the same instance of IE share the same Java console.
So now we have a workaround (start IE again) but I still don't know why this is happening at all.

Unable to start 2nd instance in RAC
Hi,
i have a clustered environment, with 1 database consists of 3 instances. i recreated the spfile using init.ora file from other database to get the sga size etc... so far is fine, and able to start the database, and instance 1 is started and not starting the instance 2 and instance 3 for some reason...
when connect to sqlplus /nolog and startup from there is says shared realm doesn't exist... i restarted the services from from computer management services...
i dont understand why its doing this...
checked the alert log says "specified value of sga_max_size is too small, bumping to 7922566298.
can someone please help...

Aman,
yes i am on virtualized 3 node system. I had a guess about it already and I happened to be right :) . Well the trouble is that you are trying to run a 3 node RAC on a 32 Bit windows machine which can chew a maximum of 3.2gb (if memory serves correctly) . So setting up such a large size per instance would not be a good thing. I normally suggest , if it's for learning purpose, to setup a db with not more than 300mb on a two node RAC VM's- per node gets an instance of 300mb. I would suggest that you bring the value to somewhat like this, let it start and see. Also check the alert logs of the instances.
here is my sga details
SQL> show sga
Total System Global Area 7977566208 bytes
Fixed Size 1309116 bytes
Variable Size 1390413380 bytes
Database Buffers 6553600000 bytes
Redo Buffers 32243712 bytes
how much should i reduce the sga, i am able tos start the database and 1 instance but not the other 2 instances.... please help.I am not sure about your set up so I shall say that set it up to not more 300mb and then retry. I hope it's not a production but a learning based cluster setup so it should not matter if we reduce the size of the sga, will it?

Cannot run more than one instance of a remote app in remote desktop services Server 2012
All,
I installed "Remote Desktop Services (RDS) Quick Start Deployment for RemoteApp, Windows Server 2012 Style" using the instructions here http://blogs.technet.com/b/yungchou/archive/2013/02/07/remote-desktop-services-rds-quick-start-deployment-for-remoteapp-windows-server-2012-style.aspx
I need to set up an image viewing program (Olyvia) to allow students using Macs and iPads access to this windows only application in order for them to get their work done. We may have 12 or more students accessing and trying to run the Olyvia application
at any one time.
All works good, except that I cannot run the Olyvia application (setup as a remoteapp program) more than one instance at a time. That is, when I start up "olyvia" on a Mac, it works great. If I leave it up and running, and then try
and start up "olyvia" on an iPad (using different accounts), I get the following error message:
"Cannot run more than one instance of this program simultaneously. Either the program is already running, or it has not been terminated completely."
I need to understand the root issue.
1. Is this a licensing issue? So, I need to add some CALs to the RDS server?
2. Is this a application issue with "olyvia"? So, no matter what I do, it is not going to be able to be used by more than one person at a time when configured as a remoteapp?
3. Did I not "publish" the application correctly?
4. Is this happening because I followed the "quick start" guide?
Appreciate any help I can get on this. We have no problem getting CALs, I just need some help with the root issue.
Thanks,
Geoff Weatherford
CVMBS, CSUHi Geoff,
Each application uses different techniques for determining if multiple instances are running. If you can determine what method it is using then perhaps you could use App-V or other virtualization software.
In the best case you really should direct your question to the maker of Olyvia. The reason I said that is they specifically designed their software to prevent multiple instances, so the first question is, why? Is it related to Licensing?
Compatibility? If you knew the specific reason(s) why they are doing it and the technique used then at the point using a virtualization technique may be the best option.
