Cannot Start Up Properly After I Changed "Mac HD" Setting to "Locked to Everyone"
Hi,
I changed the setting in my "Macintosh HD" in Sharing & Permissions to "Locked" to "Everyone" and then the loading symbol showed up. It took a long time so I thought it was an error and shut down my device (Mac Pro) directly with the On/Off button on top right. I turned it on again and the screen shows nothing except white blank screen with the Apple logo on the center. Only the cursor shows up but there's no advance anymore. I can't log in to my device. Please help me!

You could try duplicating the Domain.sites2 file and launch this in iWeb. Delete the last page you edited and try saving. If that doesn't work, undo and try deleting another and so on...
If you can find the problem page you would only have to rebuild it rather than the whole site.
The other possibility is to create a new site on the same domain file and drag each page in turn down to it from the top site and try to save each time. -
I recently moved my iMovie Library and all of its contents to an external hard drive. I then erased the library and all of its contents from my iMac HD and created a new library. Now when I try to import video from my DV camera I get this message: Cannot start ingest because there is no storage location set. Please set one under Storage in Preferences and try again. There is no way to set a storage location in Preferences. I have chosen an Event in the middle drop down box. But it still will not import. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
My iTunes library is set up the way I said in the top post and works totally fine.
Yes, and that is the default structure to which I was referring. iTunes will organize it that way automatically unless people do start changing settings (in which case they should know what they are doing and how iTunes works with library files and media structure.)
Both ways work, the advantages of mine would be that should iTunes try looking fo a library, it will always be in the default location.
It makes people think they have to change media location in preferences. They do not unless they want to relocate media only and leave other things on their internal drive (in which case there is no point in copying library files to the external, and you certainly wouldn't want to then delete them from your internal).
Downside is that then should someone move their iTunes library to anther computer they need to remember to get those library files on the external hard drive.
Just copy the whole iTunes folder and it will get the library files to the other drive in one step, along with all the other files.
Your post has good stuff but it makes a move appear intimidating and look like people have to do a lot of organizing to move the collection. It also throws in extra steps (namely altering preference settings) that could cause confusion or even make a mess of things. If people leave iTunes to default preference settings (which most people do) the move summarizes into a short line: Copy a folder and hold an extra button the next time you start iTunes.
Note that the instructions in the link I provided earlier do also include many steps, but those are to ensure that everybody does have it all organized correctly before simply copying the iTunes folder. In the end it is just a simple action. -
Cannot start Weblogic server after installation
Hi,
i just installed weblogic workshop 8.1 and i wanted to start creating a simple EJB application. After creating a simple (express) Basic Weblogic Platform Domain, when I create an application ans try to start the server, I get the error listed below. Can anyone let me know what I'm missing in the initial configuration?

I cannot see my apps after the change of my account's nationality.
My account was in US once. After I change it to another country, my downloaded apps cannot be shown in iCloud even if I download them again in the new country. It has been very inconvenient.

"Office 2004 cannot start" error message after leopard install.
I have upgraded only 1 of my systems to Leopard. My notebook and Mac Mini are both running OS X 10.4.11. I purchased a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2004:Mac in June 2004 and have installed it on my iMac (now upgraded to OS X 10.5.1) as well as the other two systems. The Tiger systems can both be running Office without any problems, however, when I attempt to open any Office app. on my iMac I get the following message ... 'Microsoft Office 2004 cannot start because Microsoft Office is already in use. An office program is being used by (husband's name). Your installation exceeds ....blah blah'. I have checked the microsoft.public.mac.office newsgroup and it seems that where others experience this problem it is because they have duplicated one of their product id's. That is not the case with me. Each of my 3 versions of office has a different ID. I did an 'Erase and Install' when I installed Leopard so I did a fresh install of Office 2004 on my iMac. This install generated a different product ID from the original one (which I made a note of). However, I don't know how to change the product ID back to the original one or if, in fact, this is what is causing me to get the message.
Can anyone help me - this is driving me crazy??

TriciaFYI, the +product ID+ is different from the unique +CD key+, or serial number, (the long string of capital letters and numbers, separated by hyphens) which each installation requires. So the fact that the install, as you put it, "generated a different product ID from the original one," doesn't matter: it still sees the two installations as having the same serial number, and therefore not permitted.
Fortunately the answer is simple. First, uninstall Office 2004 completely from your iMac using the "Remove Office" tool you'll find in "Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools," then reinstall it, being sure to use a different CD key this time. Since you just bought the student and teacher edition, which comes with three licenses and three discrete CD keys, you should be all set! -
Cannot start the db after reboot

Oracle DB: 10.2.0
OS: RHEL5
Successfully installed db and created the database.
but after reboot of machine I cannot start the database.
I have tried all the possible means( i deleted the listener and tns, recreated again rebooted etc etc)

What network were you connected to when you installed the database?
After you rebooted are you still connected to the same network?
Has the IP Address changed?
How is "HOST" defined in your listener.ora tnsnames.ora files?
Oracle 10g dot anything is currently in desupport mode. It would be far better to install 11gR2 at this point in time. -

Hi,I've upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Home and now the CD drive is missing and displays an error code"10" DEVICE CANNOT START, under Device Manager.
Looked for updated drivers on HP Support,there are none for CD drive.
Cannot roll back driver,greyed out.
Used Restore to revert back 2 months and still no progress. Removed recently installed software from HP(C5280) printer as well.
Immediately after upgrade,CD drive worked fine. Even loaded music into iTunes.
I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

Start SQL services after IP change
Hello
We have two SQL instances in the same computer: default (MSDE) and named instances (SQL 2008).
We changed the IP address a few days ago, and suddenly we cannot start the SQL services in either instance.
I think in the past when I did a select @@servername, the result was
- for the default instance, it was the IP
- for the name instance, it was the IP\instance_name
Is there a work around other than changing it back to the original IP or re-installing SQL server?

What's the error message when trying to starting SQL Server service?

Audigy 2 value "This device cannot start (code 10) after installation and no so
after installing this card I get a "This device cannot start (Code 0)" message in device manager. I disabled the onboard sound in the bios, installed using the CD and rebooted the computer. But still no sound. When using this method on another computer the installation went smoothly. Since it was still not installing on this computer I tried different PCI slots (keeping in mind that it is not suppose to be installed in the PCI slot adjacent to the AGP slot). I've tried everything I can think of and I still get a "This device cannot start (Code 0)" message under the driver in device manager and no sound whatsoever. Please help because if I can't get it to work I'll have to return it. Thank you.
I did manage to get mine working finally, it was pretty stupid of me....
Anyway I made sure the creative disk was in the dri've and then when my comptuer said "found new hardware" i pointed to the dri've and made it install the driver. Well that did work and it did say it installed the hardware, but it still didnt work. I then took it into my brother computer did it the exact same way and it worked fine. I finnaly brought it back to my PC and installed it one more time. it did the same exact thing. But this time i opened up the disk and installed the driver direct from the disk menu, after reboot it worked like a charm. Thought that was a tad strange, but it worked, maybe if someone makes the same mistake as me this will help.
Card is good, not much of a step up from my li've 5., but that card is going in a friends PC so its no biggie. -

Cannot start up iTunes after disc defragmentation
So yesterday I made a disc defragmentation on both my hard drives and now I cannot start up my iTunes. When I click on the iTunes icon it begins to install Itunes but stop and givs me a message saying" Cannot write to file
C:Program\ipod\bin\ipodService.Resources\fr.lproj\PodServiceLocalized.dll
Make sure you have access to the catalog".
If I want to uninstall my iTunes I get another error message with an error code 2330
I'm lost! I cannot start up my iTunes, I cannot uninstall it and I cannot reinstall. Can anyone please help me?This error suggests a filing system problem or a file has been corrupted.

Try reinstalling iTunes after the check. If you get the same problem we will have to try something else.

I cannot start Firefox. Always start with an error. So, I cannot start it in secure mode...
Uninstalling and reinstalling it is not a solution. I have updated from version 21 to 22 without succés. version 19 is the same... So,my problema is not depending of the version (I have tried with 19 to 22 versions).

Cannot start stopped servers, after restarting the SIA all stopped working
All was working ok, but suddenly I could not run reports from Infoview nor from the Central Managment Console. Nontheless, I was able to log in to both (just not run the reports). From the CMC, I noticed that 5 servers had stopped running, but remained enabled. I tried starting/restarting each of them from CMC, but had no response. I then looked at the properties for each of these servers and noticed the same message in red stating "The Server Intelligence Agent for this server is unavailable". I then went to the Central Configuration Manager at the server where Crystal Reports Server 2008 is installed and launched the Server Manager tool which showed a list of servers. From here, I looked at the Server Intelligence Agent properties and when I clicked on the configuration tab, it asked for me to select from a list of radio buttons of which connection type (if remember correctly) to use...there was no cancel or close option to back out of this, so I randomly chose the oracle type (which is what or ERP system uses as a backend), then was forced to save the changes. Nonetheless, this did not seem to have any effect then, I still had the same problem/issue stated above. I then, following a suggestion, restarted the Server Intelligence Agent. Unfortunately, right after this restart all the servers disappeared from the list of servers in the CCM. In addition, now I can't even login to any of the tools (CMC, Infoview,...) the only place I still can launch is the CCM; however, I cannot access the Server Manager tool in CMC. After entering my credentials, it idles for hours with no response). I'm stock with no way to do any further work...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the license you installed was a named user (vs. concurrent user) and you picked the opposite setting in the CMC Authentication section, then you won't be able to login. -
Cannot start Classic mode after 10.3.9 update
Hi!
I recently used the "Software Update" tool to update my 10.3 OS version to 10.3.9. After doing this, I found that I could no longer start Classic mode while in OSX. I did a clean install and can boot using OS 9.2.2, no problems. But I still cannot launch Classic while in OSX.
The exact error message is: "There is a problem with updating the Classic-specific files. Classic was unable to update its file in "System Folder" on "Macintosh HD".
I have a graphite G4 with 384 MB RAM and I'm still running a helluva lot of OS 9 software. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Try removing the 'old' Classic-specific files from the OS 9 System Folder (you can do this while booted to either OS, although I suggest doing it while booted to OS 9).
These files include - Classic, Classic Support, and Classic Support UI (all usually located loose in the System Folder); Classic RAVE (in Extensions folder); and ProxyApp (someplace - location seems to vary).
Put those in the Trash and empty it, then restart into OSX and try designating the OS 9 System Folder as Classic via the Classic pane in OSX's System Preferences (in Apple menu).
